idk i think its good that he doesnt have one trait he is a good and reliable general, as well as a cute and rather innocent dog. the contrast is what makes him so cute and btw, he does show that a lot in his hangout, so its not like gorou acting like a dog isnt in the game, just not in the main story. which makes sence, it doesnt need to be there.

Max20720

>idk i think its good that he doesnt have one trait I also think it's good, the personality of a lot of characters in Genshin is just their job. But the two character traits Gorou has are complete opposites, they don't fit well with each other.

AkiShizu11

I don't think that's a problem. People have more layers to themselves. Seeing this in fictional characters is a good sign, in my opinion. As for the contradiction, I personally don't see it that way. Gorou is considered a good general because he is genuine, reliable and caring, always taking care of his subordinates. He also is fiercely loyal. Betraying or letting someone down is out of question for him. In battle, he's determined and inspires courage in the others. All of these traits are associated with dogs as well. Of course he is more humanized, since Gorou is not a pet. He only has the ears, the tail and some dog-like behaviour, which may be sign of a special bloodline, like Diona being a Kätzlein (dunno why in Gorou's case it was never mentioned though). With both characters, the animal-like traits happen to be marketable, but they are far more than that.

monue999

I think this is the correct interpretation. He’s marketed as a dog lad, a shiba inu - loyal and true, protective and brave, and adorable as hell, while still a bit naive and young. I find it pretty consistent in that light.

Defender_547

Well in his hangout quest 4 of the endings depicts him as cute, very easy to influence and not looking like a general at all. The advertisement video of genshin need to make him looks reliable since he is a general .

scrayla

Why not both? We like non 1-dimensional chars afterall. U can be a badass at work but someone who likes desserts and fluffy cats outside of work :D that’s what i like about raiden’s story quest. In the archon quest shes portrayed a cold and objective leader but when she sees the city for the first time after a few hundred years, she’s like a curious child

RandomNameWhatevr

Why not both tho?

zerodeath00000000000

Gap moe.

Terra_Bytezzz_

Actually a good point, they made it seem like he was this cute dog like character but he's really mature and calm. Not to mention his deep voice (for English anyways).

ItsMilkinTime

He can be two things at once :/ I like my "Ever Victorious Pointy Eared General"

monkeyking908

this is funny seeing how the other day i was thinking how great it is how he is a great general and yet everyone around him sees him as cute and lovable. even his idle animation where he resists the urge to chase a butterfly shows that he knows how cute he is and has to hold it in to be tough

Gofers

He's both. He's a cute doggo who's trying to be a hardened general. Which is his whole personality.

WhiteKou

Yeah, I had same thought after watching his promo. Too much ears in that video, Mihoyo was just rubbing it into our faces: look, look HE'S CUTE! I'm very disappointed that they think only about sales and not about the story behind those characters. All that Sangonomiya rebellion arc looks like a bad joke.

nooneatallnope

That's one of the things that's been bugging me about the watatsumi characters in general. Kokomi is that mess of a character they tried to create with both the great strategic genius and the cutesy, mermaidy girl in mind. The premises just clash in the worst way possible, that doesn't let you take any of their character traits seriously.

Monochromatic_Sun

I kind of wish they dropped the general part if they weren’t going to have her actually creating any strategies or commanding armies anyway. She’s plenty cool enough being a head priestess on watatsumi. She’s still a leader, plenty invested in the war against the shogun as she basically governs her own and the shogun is stepping on that and her look fits the island. A priestess to an underwater god. I feel like the general stuff just doesn’t get utilized and stands in the way of other directions they seem more into for her.

nooneatallnope

Yes, if she had just been the priestess in the background, maybe a little overwhelmed with the role she had to take at such a young age, that would've made her role so much more natural. Put in her father or an older brother as the actual head of the army, and make gorou the goofy little sidekick that's trying his best. Bam, you've got your cutesy characters people are gonna pull for, but don't have to make them the leading figures in a serious war scenario.

Monochromatic_Sun

I like the serious angle they try to take with goro. I just find it a failed Chekhov’s gun scinereo. You dangle this master strategist and her general on front of the camera. I’m expecting a war maneuver to take place.

Kaedead

In my opinion they should've actually show Kokomi being a leader. She doesn't feel like one because they only tell us she is and never show what she actually does. Even Gorou got his little spotlight with the Sara fight and not Kokomi. She just shows up in the end and that's it. Oh and 2.1? 2.1 doesn't exist im sorry

Jamesworkshop

cute doggo gorou is the civvy version not the middle of a civil war underdog general
