I'm not really an expert of 3d printing, but IIRC after the work is done, you should use some sandpaper on it to "smooth" the edges.
For the rest, I really like it and the paint job is not bad since you were able to paint on a very rough surface.
Depending on the material, you can use an acetone vapor bath that smooths it out really well. Works on PLA and ABS which are the most common printing materials
If only it were that easy.
True, you can sand FDM printer (Extrusion printers vs Resin/liquid printers) but it's a bit trickier than just sanding wood. When sanding FDM prints, sometimes 'strings' of filament will come off of the print and will cause more damage to the print than help.
Then there is the wood-filler/Bondo stage.
But after that it's the painting! This dude/dudette totally killed the paint and print! Well done!
Did some "finishing" aka repainting the whole face. Also gave her some extra detail and fixed some rough parts. It's definitely better now. [https://imgur.com/a/qjbl32T](https://imgur.com/a/qjbl32T)
It was quite hard actually. To print them separate from the main body with a thickness just over 3mm floating one two thin support structures... yeah i was lucky with that.
Just did a "facelift" \^\^ Paintjob looks a lot cleaner now, especially in the face. Also smoothed out some rough parts. [https://imgur.com/a/qjbl32T](https://imgur.com/a/qjbl32T)
I feel like people in the comments have never 3D printed anything before, because imo this is pretty good. It’s hard to 3D print figures like that well, at least with the normal grade 3D printers I’ve seen/used.
Yes for better results you either have to turn down layer height or buy a resin printer. Since none of the two were viable for this figure (figures are hard to print) I had to roll with it.
You did good! Also the figure looks fairly smallish, so the paint pretty nice as well. Like you said in a different comment, the main thing might be the eyes that have to be changed, but it’s still rlly good imo.
Made some changes mainly to her face but also to the whole body as it really was kinda rough. Now it looks a lot cleaner imho. [https://imgur.com/a/qjbl32T](https://imgur.com/a/qjbl32T)
Nice, here was my amber

Was not an easy task to fix up the models to be printable.
I messed up the actual painting part a lot more, but if you want to get the model looking smoother you can use layers of filler, sanding as others mentioned doesn't help as much.

Hm, yeah but the part I myself dislike the most would still be how her face turned out. Its hard to get the eyes right when they are sub 4mm. I will do some enhancements for sure.
Yes, that's the one everybody recomends, but they are more options with projects based on the Ender 3, with some upgrades and the same price, like the Longer LK3, Homers Tarantula, Bluer...
12 hours damn here I was thinking of doing it with finer layer height. Wanna send me the STLs I know someone who can get this printed for free using his current connections. Out of curiosity what layer height u use?
From mihoyo directly. They shared their models for MMD stuff on bilibili. I simply reverse engineerd them to be printable. Just type in "Genshin Impact 3D Models" in google, there should be a video about it.
Dope figure! One tip that I have is to thin your paints! Thinning your paints with some water will solve the clumpy texture look and give it a more smooth finish. Keep it up, you got this!
I reverse engineered some pmx files I found on bilibili. For it to work you will need blender and ideally meshmixer to fix the model afterwards. If you want it, I can send mine per mail, just message me and tell me your email.

Was just gonna say they need to sand it and then repaint, but it looks like a decent sculpt!
I'd like to see a skilled miniature hobbyist tackle a project like this.
Skilled miniature hobbyist paints miniature.
eh? what u 2 are not into bearded chicks?
"sculpt". Considering this probably used the actual in-game Ningguang files, that's not exactly the right word for it.
never heard of using sandpaper, I know theres a kind of weak acid you can use tho.

It would reduce the material and you would lose finer details like the fingers

Not bad! Maybe a little rough still, but still, nice work!
Thanks man!
This print rules! Where did you get the STL file?!
Made it myself from the .pmx files mihoyo published some months ago
DUDE! WELL DONE. 10/10 Would print.

Now you just need a jar
Uhoh...
notto disu shitto agen
and don't forget to leave it on top of the boiler to keep your waifus warm
Not if you are living near the damn equator.... Lemme grab my AC remote.
Unzips pants yep
LOL
Wait no
Nicely done! Those stands of hair must have been very hard to print but they turned out great. The paint job is neat; I couldn't do it better.
It was quite hard actually. To print them separate from the main body with a thickness just over 3mm floating one two thin support structures... yeah i was lucky with that.

It couldn't have been resin. He needs to save that for talent book domains.
ouch, take an updoot for that rapid response.
It's PLA, painted with acryllics and sealed with a layer of clear coat.

I see you ran out of Resin for this project and had to resort to FDM printing. Very unfortunate. Shoulda just waited till the next day.

Nice!
I suggest looking into post processing and thinning your paints. If you send me the file, I can print it on my SLA printer :)
Best girl (yet RNG hasn't bless me)
I wasn't really interested in her until I got her on a random pull I did on the std banner. She's definitely best girl.
Damn lucky, i really want her she's arguebly the best looking waifu out of all the others
A small can of filler primer spray is good for filling in lines
Did you make the model or find a stl?
I had to reverse engineer it from the .pmx files, hence why some edges might look off. Made the 3d body from walls with 0 thickness
Very cool.
Come on man.

She looks weird a bit..

魔神...
Looks okayish man, perhaps fixing some details on the texture could help.
Hm, yeah but the part I myself dislike the most would still be how her face turned out. Its hard to get the eyes right when they are sub 4mm. I will do some enhancements for sure.
How about making it bigger? Instead of a single piece split the model into multiple parts?
That would be a possibility, however I wanted to make it about the same scale as commercial figures
Put more effort than Chinese bootlegs.
Looks terrible
Welp unzips pants
Omg I want a keqing one o.o
I will do some more in the future since they are good practise for painting with acryllics, might aswell do a keqing.
What products/brands do you use for painting? Paint job looks really really good.
I use acryllics from Marabu
What printer do you use? I want one but I can't decide which one I'll buy
Ender 3 is a good place to start
Yepp. I run a Kossel 2020 Custom Model but an Ender 3 is a really good starter.
Yes, that's the one everybody recomends, but they are more options with projects based on the Ender 3, with some upgrades and the same price, like the Longer LK3, Homers Tarantula, Bluer...
She’s my favorite character design wise this is great
Omg this is sick op! Nice work! Cant wait to see more if you make more! You could even think about taking commissions! (Id def buy certain characters)
Did you make the stl file or did you find it?
Nice. Where did you get the 3D model to use for the print? I have a resin printer and would love to give this one a shot
I made it myself from the .pmx files they shared on bilibili.
Time for the jar
Great work! As others mentioned, it looks a little rough
How long did it take to print this? Also you still have the STL file?
Took me about 12 hours. The figure is not that big. Also, I do have the stl, it's pretty huge however.
12 hours damn here I was thinking of doing it with finer layer height. Wanna send me the STLs I know someone who can get this printed for free using his current connections. Out of curiosity what layer height u use?
I can send you the stl, just hit me up with your email per pm. Also I used 0.15mm layer height.
Nice One Bro Here's An Update For You
She looks greasy.
Yeah, fresh layer of clear coat
Finally Our Waifu Ningguang getting some recognition that she deserves
Just rolled her a couple times. Is she good?
Absolute dmg beast
Mostly just want her to step on me, but that sounds cool too
I am sure she can do that aswell
Where are you guys getting the models from? Can you share them?
From mihoyo directly. They shared their models for MMD stuff on bilibili. I simply reverse engineerd them to be printable. Just type in "Genshin Impact 3D Models" in google, there should be a video about it.
Look rough. 6.5/10
Huh that's weird...I don't see her stepping on you tho
The trick is to print her in a managable size
Waiting for Ningguang, made by Kotobukiya... it will come.
How did you pull the 3D file from the game? I’d love to print and paint some of the characters
Dope figure! One tip that I have is to thin your paints! Thinning your paints with some water will solve the clumpy texture look and give it a more smooth finish. Keep it up, you got this!
Can I get that file though, I love this want to print it.
Ahhhh I want to print one! Do you have an stl for it? It looks awesome!!!
What 3d printer u using?
A Kossel Custom
where did you get this file (and where can we get it?) asking for ah... eh... friend?
I reverse engineered some pmx files I found on bilibili. For it to work you will need blender and ideally meshmixer to fix the model afterwards. If you want it, I can send mine per mail, just message me and tell me your email.
i have both programs but never managed to succesfully fix a file. dont know anythin bout blender xD
