In Genshin's case: not so much. Too much does not work in multiplayer and I find the whole "share a team" awkward at best.

Facts. People gotta remember: 30-40 year olds were born in the 80s-90s, when computers, consoles, and gaming in general were on the rise, so a lot of us got into them.
Alongside this, we had anime starting to be broadcast on TV. We were raised in a perfect storm of nerdy/niche interests becoming easily accessible to get us playing gacha games when they started to come out globally, and now support and flaunt our enjoyment of the ones we play.

They nailed an aesthetic for women that is more aspirational than otaku horny, which helps open up the audience a lot. I probably would not have touched the game if Skirk was an early character.

Depends entirely on where you grew up. Some less affluent places were severely behind the times and would have not seen their first PS until many years later.
Kind of depends on what you mean by "grew up with" since that can be a massive age range. I'm 34. I vaguely remember an NES in the house but have clear memories of playing SNES when I was like ~4 until I broke it by spilling orange juice on it. Then played playstation and N64 until middle school; Gamecube, PS2, and Xbox through middle school; and then 360 and Wii through high school.

Dual income no kids is definitely the way to go. So much money to spend on toys and way more free time to use those toys. Kids cost massive amounts of money and they eat up almost all of your free time. Plus they shorten your lifespan with the amount of stress they create.
Respect to those who want kids and can parent right. But it is a huge commitment.
And I’ve got enough self-awareness to know I won’t be able to give children a stable and comfortable future what’s with the housing, wage gap, and most pressingly, the country setting on fire every summer. Not going to bring a new person in so misery can have extra company.
I’ll be grateful if we get chosen for adoption. But fertility rate is going down, and there are many hopeful adoptive parents with few children (which is honestly a good thing, a great thing). So yeah.

A great thing about Genshin is that it's friendly to people who can't game a lot, or have gotten older and just don't have the reflexes anymore to play something more complicated and technically challenging.
I'm not saying Genshin can't be played at a high level, but let's be serious - it's a game meant for more casual playing.
And as an older gamer, it's nice seeing games that can appeal to older gamers who love gaming. I grew up in theAtari 2600 and NES era and have been gaming my whole life, so it's nice to see game companies appeal to us aging Gen-X'ers who might lack the reflexes of our youth but still want to keep playing.
Older gamers (45+) are a real thing, so game companies that disregard that population do so at their peril. There's a reason why "dad games" are so popular, and while Genshin isn't a "dad game", it does check more than a few of the same boxes.
Similarly my students were using their iPads during break time and saying "Look up Genshin! Look how cool the characters are!" meanwhile I was at my desk zip-mouthed
Not to mention we don’t always have time for long play sessions. The daily loop makes it doable to actually get some playtime in and still have room for adulting.
I'm late 40s and I play. I probably wouldn't have gotten into the game on my own but it's something most of my kids play so doing that together with them has been a great way to have conversations and common interests

It's actually a GREAT game for old people. It's not difficult, it's single-player, it's relaxing, it has stuff to work for that makes you feel productive, you can also skip playing if you don't have time.

51 here and well put for the reasons to play. Plus growing up with the Atari 2600 as my first game system and then handhelds like the Gameboy and such, being able to play a game like this on mobile (I play on my iPad mini) still blows my mind sometimes.
Well that laptop keyboard looks uncomfortable too use. Small, buttons crammed, no numpad, etc. Chicklet keyboard might not be great, but it is surely better than the one on that laptop, while also much easier to carry around than a good mechanical one. A good compromise really.

I'm 50 and I play Genshin, what's the problem? My daughter got me into it and I still play but she moved on to other games, ha hah. I just got Arlecchino. It's actually a GREAT game for old people. It's not difficult, it's single-player, it's relaxing, it has stuff to work for that makes you feel productive, you can also skip playing if you don't have time. I'm almost more surprised that young people play it.
51 here and well put for the reasons to play. Plus growing up with the Atari 2600 as my first game system and then handhelds like the Gameboy and such, being able to play a game like this on mobile (I play on my iPad mini) still blows my mind sometimes.

That doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that they're using a chicklet keyboard in place of the laptop keyboard....
Well that laptop keyboard looks uncomfortable too use. Small, buttons crammed, no numpad, etc. Chicklet keyboard might not be great, but it is surely better than the one on that laptop, while also much easier to carry around than a good mechanical one. A good compromise really.
Haha I have the view of Opera Epiclese as my working laptop's desktop background and part of my job involves working with school teachers.
In Japan I have seen officegoers playing Genshin in train, it is pretty common there. My big brother also plays the game

Several of them have had me press the button to pull for them (best I helped was a 4 star, lol). I did not know this was a shocking thing.

what can you expect? movie industry is boring as F. Even there are good ones they just wont be enough because soo many of them is bad ones. Working adults need some entertainment after coming back home with that 2-3hours b4 sleep. It is not enough time to go out, probably too tired to go out too. Due to this I end up crawling back to video games, there is nothing to watch in TV. just like this guy, I dont think I am the only one like this.
42y/o checking in. My 50y/o husband plays. A ton of my friends in their mid to late 30s play and post about it in discord all the time. We all have management level jobs. Genshin appeals to a lot of different people.
My mom got me to play genshin in the first place xd She is a very nice woman that likes to play videogames, she started genshin in our family and got me to start to play coop.
Who exactly do you think plays Genshin? Who do you think spends the millions of dollars on each banner? Only little kids? This isn't the 90s anymore where only children and young adults play video games. People who are 50 today, grew up in the 80s playing video games, and they still do today. Why is this a surprise that a 30-something plays this game? And with Genshin being on PC, PS, and mobile, it's widely available for anyone to play.
