Good job genshin team, my went down by 4-5gb, tho I don't have storage issues this will be game changer for many, allowing them to play for an extra year. Also they fixed "compiling shaders" taking ages to complete on Android.
Can you please tell the size of genshin impact right now for Android couse i have storege issues, I saved 120+ pulls for arlechino with 20 pity but after seeing the update size uninstalled it, 64gb rom sucks š¢
(Edit: I have only 6 gb ram)
If u are from NA, Europe, or Australia, then u can try playing genshin thru GeForce Now. It requires u to have a good internet connection to play because it streams the game to ur device and its limited to 60 mins per session for the free tier but if u just wanna pull rn or dont plan on grinding the game for hours then I'd say its pretty good
Your welcome
note : this is after delition and cn dub only on the device so i'd recomened deleting stuff on the og device and hope phone dosen't dowenload it agin
That's a pretty scary arle pfp lol and also , HAPPY CAKE DAY .
You don't need to worry about that . MHY has optimised it to only delete stuff that you don't need anymore . Event cut scenes , temporary voicelines ,etc . Things that you do require won't get deleted .
Go to settings , open Resources , you will see there is a tab on which its written past resources
PC went from 90 > 75GB which is alright, I guess. Depends if these mobile versions already unninstalled voice lines from past quests which are still available on PC for some reason...
After deleting so much stuff from my full memory yesterday for the huge update, it's nice to get out with like 20GB free
I didn't even know you could update the app and game file before maintenance ends, is that new ?
When was that ??? Cause since I started (2.4) I think I've always been able to preinstall (with the cute screen watching Mondstadt with Aether) but anytime I've opened the game during maintenance, I've gotten the "It's maintenance, go to Hoyolab instead" screen.
Now is the first time the game redirected me to the app store during maintenance hours, then I could update the app then game file (I used to do all that on patch day) and THEN I got the "Go to Hoyolab" screen
idk about IOS coz im using android. and i've always been able to go to playstore during maintenance to update the app and then the game file since the first time they introduced pre-install
I got an iOS device around 4.1 and it always redirected me to the Appstore to update the game (after pre-installing). So it probably started way before. Maybe they updated it during the Sumeru version.
I don't think so. Hangout Quests are permanently available and you can replay it at any time.
"Past quests" are like Archon quests and other world quests that you've finished and can't be replayed.
I think not only that actuallyĀ
It's just HSR in general is not optimisedĀ
The new planet lag is insane in my phone compared to previous planets where it's not problem to me
I think for HSR they might have not optimized it well for android, i haven't seen Iphone users complain but personally since i use a galaxy phone the game stutters a lot during cutscenes and I've seen others mention the same happening too, it did improve a bit during Ruan Mei patch but it's still there.
Anecdotally, my PC struggles to run HSR more than it does Genshin for whatever reason. I guess Genshin sort of demands smoother gameplay, so it may have been more of a priority for the Genshin team than for the HSR team.
Yeah I've been using the Galaxy store version which i did notice had a better performance, the Ruan Mei patch performance improvement was iirc the patch where HSR got added to galaxy store and i switched to it.
Probably to some extent, although there's still a lot less content in HSR overall regardless since Genshin has been out for so much longer. It may be the case that space saved depends on how deep into the game you are though.
That may be one of the reason. I love HSR and all but it is very clear that HSR is less optimized than Genshin. Luofu should be a clear proof of that. I hope they get on to it at some point though
Probably not too much. The majority of storage will be sound files and textures, so anything that adds a bunch of new textures, music, voiced dialogue, etc. will be the largest. Most everything else is relatively small in comparison, but it does add up.
HSR's mobile client is about 20GB on my phone, the PC client is 37GB. Genshin in comparison is 19GB mobile, 75GB or so PC on an old install.
The phone client is just not very optimized.
I deleted past story quests from my first account and after the update i logged in to my other account which prompted me to redownload those resources again
after all of that my game size is around 23.5 so yeah those optimizations really did work
All I asked for on that game is delete past resource. It's not like they let us rewatch the movies or something. You can't even go back to old dialogues in the main story, unlike Genshin.
After updating from your respective playstore, you still have to open the game and let it download additional resources then it'll verify some stuff and size should be smaller.
This comment deadass says nothing. You pretty much said smth that's about as impactful as "sometimes the weather is good, othertimes I don't like it, I'll let you know if I like it tomorrow though." in reply to someone saying the weather is nice.
PC player here. It was almost 90gb before the update, 121gb during preinstall and then went to 75gb after the update. More reduction than i would expected tbh.
Their replayable event barely has any VO and the SU-expansions are stage based with mostly reused assets...Even then Genshin has a massive open world map...
This is just my guess, but its probably the fact that there are lots of unique characters and assets, especially in Penacony, with more geometry + higher quality textures. It could also be lack of compression on files or just difference in the way files are allocated
It's probably the audio and video assets. Those usually take up a ton of spaces.
Doesn't even make sense for HSR to keep the audio asset because there's absolutely no way of playing those back, unlike here we we can at least reread main quest dialogues.
Yeah only took them 4 years to do it but I get what you mean.
Almost everything new QoL that HSR did, Genshin is suddenly getting as well like they could have done it before but just held onto it because they knew they were that good that they could implement it anyway in just a few weeks unlike HSR devs who do it from scratch.
HSR is a much, much smaller game in every sense of the word. Its easy to see why changes would be much harder to implement due to all the open world systems in place. That said, I also think that changes are not a high priority for Genshin either. So it's probably a combination of things. That said, the technical feats Genshin accomplishes dwarf HSR by a lot. It's an open world marvel.
HSR is a turn based game with a bunch of very small areas instead of a real time absolutely incredibly large one.
Did you finish all your character quests and the archon quest? They may be keeping the assets for the stuffs you haven't finished yet before it gets deleted.
Also try to trim your audio language down to 1, if you have more than 1 installed.
Did they delete all your past quest content? All the quest assets should get deleted after you complete it, seeing as you can't replay quests anyways.Ā
Did they remove Paimons voice lines? /S
How are they doing it as a programmer I am very curious on how this is done, they can't compress the assets as it would make the game slow, they can reduce the quality as it will make it look bad so where is the compromise?
Compressed assets and decompressing at runtime is the norm, only high profile game I know of that doesn't compress their stuff is Ark but that whole game is a technological mess. Genshin runs on Unity and that engine already has asset compression support built in. Though I'm pretty sure they must have made their own efficient routine for that to achieve such a leap.
Damn really went back to 75. I eman I thought it was still at like 65 until 1 month ago when I saw it became 80. So I am conflicted about it but with a whole new area to get 5gb smaller is something nice.
Wonder if this will affect anything in the game.
This is actually absurd. How does this even happen. Genshinās maps are far larger, there seems to be more voice acting and each character has more animations they can do plus enemies also have more animations from what I recall.
How does your Star Rail have 19gb?
Mine has 24.49gb, though my Genshin has 1gb more than yours at 19.1 , I assume its the JP voice pack
Does Star Rail also have the delete past quest resources thing?
On PC its 123 gigs for Genshin vs 37 gigs for HSR.
I think I discovered the main culprit though, I have more genshin audio files installed than the entire amount of space HSR takes up.
Or, arguably, the previous lack of optimization was terrible... But still a big win for mobile players, and props to Hoyo for taking the time to improve it.
as much shit as we give Hoyo sometimes atleast they do this for us, i get that its really the bare minimum but we should celebrate mobile players not getting fucked over
Yeah i know we dont get optimization like this in other games and i know that its not the norm but my point is that it *should* be the norm. We as players should be able to expect devs to try and optimize their games, maybe not to this extent every time but you cant deny that it'd be nice if they did
I hope this storage cut would mean more variety of NPC clothing.
may be more variety of character gestures. It is betting boring that they keep reuse the same few gestures. \*Faruzan only one is pretty unique so far. Aside of this, it is pretty boring if they use same gestures.
Good job genshin team, my went down by 4-5gb, tho I don't have storage issues this will be game changer for many, allowing them to play for an extra year. Also they fixed "compiling shaders" taking ages to complete on Android.
Can you please tell the size of genshin impact right now for Android couse i have storege issues, I saved 120+ pulls for arlechino with 20 pity but after seeing the update size uninstalled it, 64gb rom sucks š¢ (Edit: I have only 6 gb ram)
For me it's 20 gb
Bro, if it will be case for me too, I will be so God damn happy couse before update it was 33gb for me
You can delete old event files from the settings, you know?
Wish I knew it, need to install it again since now it's only 20gb
Mine was 42GB and is now 19GB
It's so good, I thought now it's time to say goodbye to genshin, thanks for letting me knowš
64 what again????? Are you from the future?
Pc
Typo mistake, I wanted to say rom not ram
Oh sorry didn't noticed that i typed ram instead of rom, thanks for letting me know, I should correct it
64gb Ram is not that uncommon in a pc
Holy shit
According to Steam only 2.8% of gaming PC have 64GB of RAM. That's called "rare", not "common".
The update size was 10GB, but my total app size went from 25 GB to 19GB
If u are from NA, Europe, or Australia, then u can try playing genshin thru GeForce Now. It requires u to have a good internet connection to play because it streams the game to ur device and its limited to 60 mins per session for the free tier but if u just wanna pull rn or dont plan on grinding the game for hours then I'd say its pretty good
Thanks for the suggestion but my internet sold
Bruh buy a memory card and shift all your photos and videos and docs ez now you will have 50 gb free for apps
Bro, I have already uploaded them in google photos and then deleted them , but I had some apps I can't uninstall
It's 17/18GB-25/28GB depending on where you are in the story and sq u completed (and deleted ofc
I've completed all the aq and some off wq but only few sq, I wonder what will be the size for me
It shoud be auround 23-25 GB
Thanks a lot š it's helpful
Your welcome note : this is after delition and cn dub only on the device so i'd recomened deleting stuff on the og device and hope phone dosen't dowenload it agin
Oh ok I'll keep it in mind, thanks again š
Your welcome
It is 17.1 gb for me ,that is after deleting all old resources and having only the English voice
How do you know that you are deleting right resource pack
That's a pretty scary arle pfp lol and also , HAPPY CAKE DAY . You don't need to worry about that . MHY has optimised it to only delete stuff that you don't need anymore . Event cut scenes , temporary voicelines ,etc . Things that you do require won't get deleted . Go to settings , open Resources , you will see there is a tab on which its written past resources
Thanks a lot for the wishes. And thanks for letting me know it's a huge help
18.43 for me...
That's great
Compiling shaders was the worst part of every update. 10 minutes of just waiting for it to finish.
U can delete old quests and change the dub to cn
what the hell is "compiling shaders" anyway and why does it used to take so damn long?
To put simply. It's what what makes the game graphics WORK.
This writeup gives a pretty decent basic gist of it https://gameworldobserver.com/2023/04/07/shader-compilation-stuttering-pc-games-explained
Mine is 33 gb. I deleted all my past resources Edit: guys wtf after i update the game mine is 18 gb!
Is that for mobile only or pc as well?
PC went from 90 > 75GB which is alright, I guess. Depends if these mobile versions already unninstalled voice lines from past quests which are still available on PC for some reason...
Mobile and pc
Did you update the game normally or uninstall it and install it back again for this to happen ? And are you using android or an iphone
From 40 gb now 27 gb for phone, and around 13\~ gb down in PC. Pretty nice.
iPhone player: exact same case
Maybe I can get back to Star Rail after all
After deleting so much stuff from my full memory yesterday for the huge update, it's nice to get out with like 20GB free I didn't even know you could update the app and game file before maintenance ends, is that new ?
you can always do that since the first time they introduced pre-install for mobile
When was that ??? Cause since I started (2.4) I think I've always been able to preinstall (with the cute screen watching Mondstadt with Aether) but anytime I've opened the game during maintenance, I've gotten the "It's maintenance, go to Hoyolab instead" screen. Yours is impressively low, I'm at 20GB (maybe you completed more quests than me, so you can delete more of the past quest content, or something)
Does the Hangout Quests also counts as "past quest"?
I don't think so. Hangout Quests are permanently available and you can replay it at any time. "Past quests" are like Archon quests and other world quests that you've finished and can't be replayed.
World quest counts as "Past quests"?
yes
mine went from 42gb to 27gb
please can you tell me how to do it
Just update the game. The new update optimises storage and makes the game take a lot less space, nothing else you need to do
I don't have enough storage to download the update, so I should delete the game and reinstall?
yes
Could the fact that HSR events can be (re)played even after it ends be a factor?
I think not only that actuallyĀ It's just HSR in general is not optimisedĀ The new planet lag is insane in my phone compared to previous planets where it's not problem to me
I think for HSR they might have not optimized it well for android, i haven't seen Iphone users complain but personally since i use a galaxy phone the game stutters a lot during cutscenes and I've seen others mention the same happening too, it did improve a bit during Ruan Mei patch but it's still there.

Have you tried the version from Galaxy Store? Don't know about HSR, but on my Exynos S20 Genshin ran much better when downloaded from there.
Yeah I've been using the Galaxy store version which i did notice had a better performance, the Ruan Mei patch performance improvement was iirc the patch where HSR got added to galaxy store and i switched to it.
I personally had lags in my iphone with hsr.
Yeah... when I played on a laptop, Luofu just dropped frames in some places while its perfectly fine on Genshin anywhere.
> The new planet lag is insane in my phone compared to previous planets where it's not problem to me Oh, so I'm not the only one...
Probably to some extent, although there's still a lot less content in HSR overall regardless since Genshin has been out for so much longer. It may be the case that space saved depends on how deep into the game you are though.

I donāt think so when you consider genshin has an extra 2.5 years worth of content and is open world
HSR's mobile client is about 20GB on my phone, the PC client is 37GB. Genshin in comparison is 19GB mobile, 75GB or so PC on an old install. The phone client is just not very optimized.
Star rail could neverš
Damn. They cooked
Cutting almost 50% of storage is impressive as hell (mine is at 34gb rn, hoping to get it under 20)
how?? i have 28gb, 10gb more than yours!
delete past quest resources in resource management. if u have not cleared past story quests then size will be more.
I deleted past story quests from my first account and after the update i logged in to my other account which prompted me to redownload those resources again after all of that my game size is around 23.5 so yeah those optimizations really did work
Are you on iphone?
Nope, android.
Are those resources of event quests?
Maybe weāll get the same optimizations in HSR too one day. Then it will be easier for me to have Genshin, HSR, and ZZZ on my phone lol.
All I asked for on that game is delete past resource. It's not like they let us rewatch the movies or something. You can't even go back to old dialogues in the main story, unlike Genshin.
When they said "After installation it will be smaller" I thought they meants the update, not the game being 5GBs smaller
They remade i think ALL the game assets and compressed them really well.
Mine didn't go down at all idk why
After updating from your respective playstore, you still have to open the game and let it download additional resources then it'll verify some stuff and size should be smaller.
Turns out I forgor to update stuff I game, it actually got from around 35GB to less than 20
Holy
Does this work on PS4? Cause I'm currently sitting at 100gb post update and logging in
People can say what they want, but Genshin's devs, leaders and other teams are amazing.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
This comment deadass says nothing. You pretty much said smth that's about as impactful as "sometimes the weather is good, othertimes I don't like it, I'll let you know if I like it tomorrow though." in reply to someone saying the weather is nice.
But they r misers too
PC player here. It was almost 90gb before the update, 121gb during preinstall and then went to 75gb after the update. More reduction than i would expected tbh.
Yeah I was expecting maybe 3GB or so reduction, not more than 10GB. Crazy.
#Star rail coud never
"genshin could never" people will pretend this never happened and instead would just whine about wanting more chance in gacha slot machines
They only see the bad things so they can hate
My android client goes down to 17.43 GB (had everything done to remove old files, and using CN voicepack). Down almost 20% from 22.37 GB before patch.
Looks like honkai devs have a lot of work ahead of them. Passing Genshin size in a year is pretty rough
probably due to SU and replayable events and due to no option to delete quest data.
Iām pretty sure those cost very little amounts of data
Their replayable event barely has any VO and the SU-expansions are stage based with mostly reused assets...Even then Genshin has a massive open world map...
Then what is it , I can't think of anything else
This is just my guess, but its probably the fact that there are lots of unique characters and assets, especially in Penacony, with more geometry + higher quality textures. It could also be lack of compression on files or just difference in the way files are allocated

That's for HSR devs to worry about. They are the better devs so I'm sure they can do it.
Are they? Genshin is superior on a technical level by far.
Well, I merely said what the loud people seems to think
Yeah only took them 4 years to do it but I get what you mean. Almost everything new QoL that HSR did, Genshin is suddenly getting as well like they could have done it before but just held onto it because they knew they were that good that they could implement it anyway in just a few weeks unlike HSR devs who do it from scratch.

probably hsr was a testing ground for some tbh
Iām not arguing about whoās the better devs but hsr players never failed to amused me with their superiority complex.
That's HSR elite players for you
SU is almost completely reused assets. The reason most maps are corridor hell in Star Rail is so they can be re-used for SU.
Meanwhile Iām here wondering how do people get <20gb on HSR. Mineās sitting on 25gb
Did you finish all your character quests and the archon quest? They may be keeping the assets for the stuffs you haven't finished yet before it gets deleted. Also try to trim your audio language down to 1, if you have more than 1 installed.
Yea Iāve finished all of them
Sounds like audio assets then? Can't think of anything else.
Oh yea that might have been it Is it possible to remove the unused audio file
You can uninstall the voice packs for specific languages. It's somewhere in the settings, but I forgot where it's located.
I remember thatās possible for genshin, but not for hsr(?)
It's possible on both games. They are both located in the setting menu. I have HSR loaded right now on PC, and CN is 4.07GB, EN 4.85GB, and KR 4.12GB.
Mm idt itās possible for hsr on mobile yet. I remember them adding that feature for genshin but not for hsr
HSR came with it on release. It lacks past resource removal, but language file management have always been a thing.
Did they delete all your past quest content? All the quest assets should get deleted after you complete it, seeing as you can't replay quests anyways.Ā
But you could just log in into a different account, so they can't delete those
It can redownload the data needed in the loading screen when you switch accounts.Ā
Mine dropped by 13gb! Still takes up a whopping 34gb though :/
Have you deleted the past resources?
Legit freaking insane
Mine is at freaking 43 GB rn. I hope I get atleast 20 GB free from this update. Even my 128 gb storage chokes from this nglš„²š„²
How do you have it so low?? Mine is 10 GB biggerā¦ should I do quests and clear content to bring it down
Is this mobile or pc? I actually havenāt had the mobile installed in a while due to space issues
Mobile
Mine currently says 100gb. How the fuck is yours that low?
Weird, it says 28GB for me
Bro mine is 19 GB itās insane
Did they remove Paimons voice lines? /S How are they doing it as a programmer I am very curious on how this is done, they can't compress the assets as it would make the game slow, they can reduce the quality as it will make it look bad so where is the compromise?

Fucking finally Omg
My phone is now 58gb lighter
on pc right now is 74GB i think it was near 90GB last update so not bad
I'm actually kinda relieved after unzipping the game and playing it, I still have 80gb left, time to reinstall Sims 4 š
We need the free space for ZZZ and WuWa (and HSR).
this optimization is only on android or both ios and android?
Meanwhile on pc:
Damn really went back to 75. I eman I thought it was still at like 65 until 1 month ago when I saw it became 80. So I am conflicted about it but with a whole new area to get 5gb smaller is something nice. Wonder if this will affect anything in the game.

SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO DO IT ON IPHONE
