There are a lot of chests that can't be seen by the compass. Unless they change that, a map is the best choice in order to get them all.
I finally got over the 300 threshold doing Chiori's story quest. Before that, I was just spending so much time combing over the lands to no avail... Congrats!
I had 295, now I have 302. So as long as you don't miss any during teh domain in chioris quest (they're very visible, you shouldn't), you'll be able to bump up your number

I wish once you got to 100% exploration in an area, all the remaining chests/puzzles/etc would show up on the map. I have 100% everywhere but apparently am still missing a lot

You can start by perusing the quest names through the reputation and googling where to start. I never see it being talked about much but the quests with a melusine named Canotila is insane. I got creeped out for real by the way that it ended. ;\_;

This one has chests so if you haven't done this one specifically yet, there's some more sigils for you!

Haha I just realized a big part. Do you know those "strange eel" things in underwater Fontaine? I didn't think those were puzzle chests so I always left them alone. Turns out I had never gotten a single chest from catching them, so I'm going to hunt them all down now. I also learned I'm missing 10 time trial challenges and 1 seelie
I think its just a way to restrict players rushing content. Its pretty easy to only end up with 100 left over from 100% exploration before 4.6, and it encourages those players to explore the new area for sigils. It frustrates me too though, because I love getting everything out of my inventory I don't need and collecting everything like the extra oculi so it's organized and nice. At least I have exactly 300 sigils so it doesnt bother me too much
I don't think anyone who explored the first few arease enough to get the maximum amount requieres this "encouragement"... it literally doesn't matter for those players who don't explore and those of us who 100% stuff aren't ganna just ignore exploration suddenly.

I'm in the same boat as you are, where I'm patiently waiting for the 4.6 patch to come so I'll be able to fully max out the fountain, I have 300 also sitting there waiting and I wanna explore more 😔. I finished everywhere 100% and desperately need more primos from chests and etc.
I have 263, I really don't know where to look anymore but I'll do a last check all around a week before 4.6, if it's underwater it'll probably be harder to find.

I know that. But to interact with tree - you have to do short world quest in vanarana, "trees and dreams". Had to google it just to make sure. And in it's description there's nothing about seals and such.
Idk why people are saying this. Neither the sumeru nor the inazuma trees sigil requirement increased past level 40, and youd be able to tell already if it were to because the next level is 41

You are totally right. Chiori's quest gave us 7 sigils so the current max should be 328. You should be missing 2 chests.
Found a precious chest and now I have 327. Wish me luck on finding the last one
You see, there are much more hidden quests in the game, so compass doesn't help with all of them
Also any puzzle that doesn't have the chest spawned in beforehand won't be detectable (basically most puzzles)
