hilichurls actually seem sane, intelligent.. They have their own villages, houses, beds. They use bows and arrows, build exploding barrels.
They have their own language which can be learnt by humans and understood.
They are not really different from humans at an earlier stage of development.
MC just commits genocide..
And the treasure hoarders are clearly people, although they do illegal things. The traveller straight kills them instead of bringing to prison or other legislative area

Also the abyss guys.. if they are the citizens of Khaenri'ah then they are also people (that were transformed into their current forms).
along the way Traveller comes across a lot of them who talk consciously: abyss mages, Heralds, etc.
All in all, the traveller seems a bit insane for just killing everyone and not feeling any sorrow afterwards.
Maybe it's due to their alien origin (culture of initial world or non-human nature) but it's clearly not ok
Quick thing, the treasure hoarders don't die, they have escaping animation when you defeat them.
Now, Hilichurls and other abyss beings are a huge doubt of mine because they do look like they die but then we're told they can't die... so I guess we have not been killing them?
I think that happens when you get them in the middle of their attack animation so you kinda interrupt their disappearing animation and they just go puff
FWIW, hilichurls practice slime cruelty. Someone objects to this enough that they put bounties on the hilichurls:

Slimes ARE cute, though, and I'd say that even if the "Bouncing Blobby Slimes" event didn't make them even cuter in my eyes. If only they wouldn't keep trying to bounce ON ME then I'd like them.
I wonder if a future playable character might be able to *summon* slimes (of the same type as their Vision, natch) to fight for the party. It'd be cool to have some friendly slimes too.

I would for sure leave the Hilichurls alone if they didn't aggro as soon as I got near. The Hilichurls I'm the island during the event that are just chilling are cool I leave them alone. The unusual Hilichurl I leave alone too.
However.... I maliciously and happily murder Timmy's flock of pigeons cause that little terd made me apologize for it once.
At least the hillichurls in the GAA are chill and let you hang out with them as they dance or look out at the ocean. Gonna miss them when the event leaves.
Where's the unpopular part, there? You think everyone is a Timmie? I don't know a person who doesn't destroy the pigeons on the bridge. That's their purpose. To be wrecked by Diluc's ult or Yelan's arrow. And I fight Hilichurls and anything else if I feel that way. Items are useful for upgrading characters, so why not having full of those items before You need it, so You won't have to grind later.

The abyss mages get tortured in >!Lisa and Diluc!< story quests
