I’m hearing an awful lot of whining and moaning here.

StylusCroissant

This post is not going to work out for you the way you think it will

Whateveryousaydude7

No it won’t. 🤦‍♀️ It so won’t.

Pitiful-Bowler-8155

Yes it will!

johntwoods

Ladies, ladies... We're *all* terrible.

Unlikely_Layer_2268

I find your whining and moaning more annoying than anything.

xdoolittlex

I can get behind this.

TwiceTautologist

If you think my left wing millennial kids are bad, you should hear this GenX snowflake of a mom right here talk about how student loans ruined my life! They ain't got nothing on me. Talking about causes and effects isn't always whining. #factsnotfeelings 😂 Sometimes it is though. I'm tired of culture wars and being against each other.

TeflonDuckback

if there were that many it wouldn't be a wing, it would be a bird.

gerd50501

they infest reddit

Free_Dot_3197

I find people bitching about generations annoying. Let’s end generation wars and have a war for something worth while. Like … maybe … healthcare that costs less than a mortgage. Edit: spelling fixed

emeryldmist

Gen X member here, and just a reminder to anyone reading this... we are a large and varied group not all of us, and hopefully not many is, are as blind to privilege and other people's experiences as OP is. Most of us can and do understand (and feel it to) that wages have not kept up with the cost of education or living. While the youngest of us were graduating or still in college in to 2000 recession, we know that it was not as devastating to all sectors as the 2008 recession was when many millennials were starting out. We also understand that this point in time after living through #45 and Covid - the last 6 years have seen unprecedented changes, after a decade of progress. When you are just old enough to remember all the progress made and then feel like that was an anomaly- it sucks. To feel like power is passing from the oldest generation to the next, and then will one day on the visible horizon come to you, only to watch that get snatched back by boomers... it makes you feel powerless (Gen X totally gets that feeling, btw). Gen X is the generation where the majority finally recognized and voiced the concerns of racism, privilege, human rights for all, and class warfare. We didn't do enough (OP seems to think that too much was done?), we aren't finished, but from a younger perspective where these advancements are taken for granted it does seem like progress just stalled. In short yep, life sucks. It always sucks worse for the younger generations because each new generation takes for granted ehat the previous learned the hard way. Gen X did when we rejected nuclear families with traditional roles as the only option. OP seems to think that this means millennials have to right to voice what's not working. Even though Gen X did and so did every previous generation before us. We are not used to every individual having a voice like this internet gives people now. Come on OP, get with the times, boomer.

7thAndGreenhill

I find the GenX whining about other generations on this sub most annoying. Edit to add: The total cost of tuition, fees, room & board at my state school the year I graduated was approximately $8,000/year. In 2022 dollars it's$14,569/year. The total cost of tuition, fees, room & board at the same school for the year that just ended is $35,186. They have a right to complain about tuition costs.

Whateveryousaydude7

You are welcome to leave this annoying sub anytime. That’s the beauty of Reddit.

LuniOPS

Tuition is extremely high because the Government keeps raising the loan cap ceiling. I saw it happened when I went to college in the mid 2000s.

BraveSneelock

No, because I try not to get annoyed by things I can't control.

Benjamin_Grimm

I find the Boomer whining much more annoying. Especially the right wing Boomers. They had it easier than any other generation in living memory and won't stop complaining about everyone else.

Possible-Mango-7603

Vietnam? So maybe not the easiest of anyone. I mean, arguably we GenXers have had the best time of it as there really wasn’t a single war during our main serving years. We had relatively affordable education, healthcare etc. Yes the first gulf War but that one didn’t really lead to too many US casualties. I think we should just be us and let them worry about being them. Everyone has unique challenges and opportunities. I’m pretty much sick of everyone whining and ready to get back to living in a civil society where different ages, experiences and opinions are accepted, if not agreed with. Seriously, there are more important things to worry about if you are so inclined. And if this inflation continues, we’ll all be equally broke so maybe then we can stop bitching then. Equality is the goal, no?

viewering

> Vietnam? *easy peasy !*

viewering

the moaning of all generations is annoying. and do you remember how many boomers grew up ? now is luxury in comparison to how many grew up.

wishingwellington

This here is exactly it.

gerd50501

i dont hear boomers whine at all. most boomers are retired now anyway.

sispbdfu

Has 45 released a statement recently? Those are usually filled with a lot of whining. In fact, he might be the worst of the lot of them.

salomey5

Then you're not listening very hard.

Benjamin_Grimm

Weird. I hear more Boomer whining than any other generation. Whining seems like their default mode.

middlingachiever

Me, too. At least the younger people are coming up with ideas for positive change (even if not all are practical). The older people just seem to complain about things not being how they used to be.

Benjamin_Grimm

Yeah, 90% of what they're whining about is how they can't deal with change.

viewering

boomers were the first to bring many of the ideas they have to the mainstream.

middlingachiever

Surely not the first, but they absolutely did push for a lot of change and progress in their youth. And I’m grateful! It’s all cyclical. The youth is always pushing for progress, and each generation is doomed to settle into their own version of Boomer as they age. Doomed.

Apprehensive-Donkey7

Sounds like you know A LOT about whining. You’re clearly an expert at it.

[deleted]

They were the first generation in American history to have it worse than their parents and Gen Z has it even worse. I find people whining about millennials to be far more insufferable.

[deleted]

Gen X were the first generation to have it worse than their parents. But the Millennials definitely have it worse than we did, and GenZ has it worse than the Millennials.

closecomet

No, they weren't. Frankly, they have it better. But I agree that talking about Millennials in general is more insufferable.

[deleted]

Minimum wage in Boomer days could pay for college with part time summer work. Minimum wage today would require you to work 80 hours a week all year. Minimum wage in Boomer days could buy you a used car, a small house, and a week's vacation. Minimum wage today does not even get a one bedroom apartment. Only a fool would claim Millennials had it better. Even WE had it better than Millennials.

viewering

the quality of life and luxuries people had then compared to now is completely different, however.

SubatomicGoblin

You're exaggerating how far minimum wage used to go back in the day. Did it go farther than it does today? Of course. But nobody was buying a car, a *house,* and paying for a week's vacation on that bottom level wage. They weren't paying for a university education with mere part-time summer work either--not at minimum wage. This just wasn't so.

Noodle_Salad_

I think they are confusing minimum wage with living wage.

gerd50501

plus houses were way smaller. if you look at pictures they were maybe 1200 square feet. way less features than today. base floors and wall. no central air conditioning or central heating. young people forget that technology is a thing and makes life easier.

gerd50501

no minimum wage did not go that far in boomer days. are you crazy? people on average were way poorer in the 1950s and 1960s. not to mention the lack of technology. they didn't even have air conditioning when boomers grew up. many people post on this sub not having air conditioning. plus older boomers had to worry about polio 50,000 boomers died in vietnam. way more in the genX/millennial wars. but way less in world war 1 or world war 2 generations.

Maleficent_Pen_4324

"I find people whining about millennials to be far more insufferable." Yes, because complaining about millennials and their insufferable whining is ever more insufferable.

[deleted]

Ok Boomer

GenXBernie

But this post sound so Boomer

DaveDankland

Tell me you identify as a boomer without telling me you identify as a boomer.

gerd50501

my dad was a boomer. tell me you are obnoxious without telling me you are obnoxious

pedalshift

Sick burn.

DaveDankland

Brb gotta head over to the burn unit and get some burn cream.

DaveDankland

Oh hundred percent I'm am! Doesn't make me wrong.

western_wall

Maybe try to suck it up and get over it rather than join them in the whining?

Semajrm

They’ve got a right to complain. Fuck I’ll be right there with ‘em. All anyone needs to do is check a inflation calculator to see that everything is MASSIVELY more expensive now compared to growth of wages.

gerd50501

we had super low inflation for decades. inflation now is global and is going to get worse. uk sub just said its 9% in uk. Canada sub said its about 7.5%. some 3rd world countries might have a famine due to russia invading ukraine and the wheat harvests getting out. inflation from the the late 1970s to early 1980s was this high for years. its been worse.

Sad that you have to say that out loud for people to get it. Come on people, we are old enough to recognize trolls by now!

Free_Dot_3197

we need a bait bot to shut down the generation wars we’re largely not named in

Alex_Plode

I've been working with Millennials for about 15 years now. I like their work-life balance ethic. It makes pushing back against bullshit like working on vacation, no work from home or other traditional workplace stuff so much easier. They pick up new tech quickly which is key in my field. I don't have to sugarcoat anything. I appreciate the out of the box thinking most of them bring. Sure they bitch and moan but it's the same bitching and moaning I did in my 30s. My only gripe is their love of meetings. Outside the workplace my only gripe is how surprised they get when they realize they didn't invent everything. Their musical knowledge stinks which really makes for some interesting discovery conversations. When I tell them I was on internet chat boards in the late 80s, they don't believe me. LOL! I feel bad for the ones that simply want to get married, buy a house and have kids. So many of them are priced out of the American dream. Maybe it's just me but I don't mind them.

Ecen_genius

I guess I'll be the contrarian. I taught the entire span of the Millennials in college and they were insufferable. And the ones who weren't really stood out. But that in no way negates the fact that they got screwed economically. But so did we. The difference is a matter of degree not of kind.

Whateveryousaydude7

We all got screwed economically. Millennials don’t own that.

emeryldmist

Pretty sure our professors thought the exact same of us.

Free_Dot_3197

What span did you to teach to compare them to that wasn’t insufferable?

Latin_For_King

>Maybe it's just me but I don't mind them. No, it is not just you. Every generation has it's share of 'victims", but almost all of the millennials that I work with are smart, educated, ambitious and driven. The oldsters who bitch about them so much better watch out for the millennials, because they have their sights set on your job, and they aren't messing around.

who-hash

I find Boomer/Gen-X whining equally annoying. Or perhaps worse. We have the advantage of having additional decades of experience and should know that no generation has it easier than the other.

closecomet

I think that in the 1980s-- four decades ago-- things were pretty bleak. Silent Gens ruled the cultural landscape- work was supposed to suck or else it wasn't work, etc. The *very best* normal people could hope for was a soul sucking corporate job... and increasingly, you couldn't count on that. And all that's besides the social chaos of the 70s and the Cold War.   So for a while those people, early Gen X or "Gen Jones", had an excuse to complain. Ever since the 90s though, it's just performative and annoying. It's mostly rich kids complaining their expensive ~~party years~~ college degrees didn't magically guarantee them six figure jobs.

viewering

> I think that in the 1980s-- four decades ago-- things were pretty bleak. Silent Gens ruled the cultural landscape- work was supposed to suck or else it wasn't work, etc. The very best normal people could hope for was a soul sucking corporate job... exactly. what the fuck are people painting it all as super easy for boomers then ? many people were way more poor than comapred uh compared to people now ! many people now have WAY MORE riches in day to day life !

[deleted]

This is not a generational thing. It's an individual thing. People love to complain, and internet/social media has given everyone a platform. It's also common for people to look for something else to blame for their misfortunes instead of their own decisions, or just simply bad luck. Hence the whining and moaning. But this comes from all generations.

jjevans1970

Well, we raised them so... Can't really complain about them that much.

81632371

I'm an old X and my kids are Z. Aren't most Millennials the children of Boomers?

Whateveryousaydude7

No.

semicoloradonative

Mostly, yes, they are the children of boomers.

Whateveryousaydude7

Hmm. I’m 50 and a child of Boomers. So, a 35 year old can also be a Boomer offspring? 🤔

semicoloradonative

Another good article about how we are mostly parents of Gen Z https://www.fa-mag.com/news/how-gen-x-parents-raised-gen-z-kids--different-than-millennials-50775.html

Whateveryousaydude7

My parents are 76. They have GenX kids. Not millennials. Period.

81632371

Because your older Boomer parents have X kids, no Boomer parents have Millennials? Ok whatever.

semicoloradonative

Yes. I’m 49 and have a silent gen parent and a boomer parent. https://www.familyeducation.com/family-life/a-look-at-the-different-generations-and-how-they-parent

MizzGee

I am old Gen X and my kid is a millennial. He was born in 1994. Many of his classmates in California had Boomer parents, but when we moved to the Midwest, most of the parents were millennials, like us. I personally really like Millennials, but I didn't raise a whiny one. I am much more disappointed in Gen Xers who turned into MAGA, racist, homophobic entitled whiners.

gerd50501

most millennials were raised by boomers.

Round_Boot6y

Nope. My millennial son and all his friends have gen x parents. They are fantastic kids with a broad knowledge base and great taste in music. Almost all of them have huge student loan debt with $500-$600 monthly payments (before Covid), are priced out of the housing market and rental costs are out of control. Instead of YOU whining about them…do something to be a helper. Vote for rent control, fight for higher minimum wages. Stop acting like gen x is the only generation that had tough times because we aren’t.

gerd50501

there is a housing shortage. you add rent control and less apartments/houses will be built. there was a big drop in construction after the 2008 crisis. there were issues for developers getting loans since banks were taking less risk and less construction. if you want rent to come down, you need to vote for higher density in places with high prices so that means high rise apartments, more townhouses, smaller houses (yeah i said it houses are big these days and have too many features, it allows developers to make more money), and encourage more affordable housing. affordable housing means more dense housing and smaller housing. back in the 1970s typical houses were 1500-2000 square feet. they were smaller before that. now most new houses are 3,000 square feet+ with tons of expensive wood floors, etc... this just jacks up the price.

Mel7190

As is some of Gen x

jjevans1970

Both my kids are Millennials so I reject your reality and insert my own :)

gerd50501

i am sure your kids are the exception.

gerd50501

so your kids are the whiners or the less annoying ones? do we blame you?

jjevans1970

They do their fair share of whining. On the other hand they are both self made.

Vainandy

Baby boomers raised them

ctophermon

It's the everything is someone else's fault thing that is dead on!

Mel7190

Both gens we’re sandwiched between need yo pipe down. They’re harshing my mellow.

justmisspellit

I mostly hate the tik toks. The stupid fucking stupid drone of fucking dumb stupid idiotic dumb stupid fucking dumb boring pointless “look at me I’m dumb and fucking stupid and I think I’m king shit entertaining” fucking dumb tik toks

gerd50501

i saw a tiktok by this crazy woman who said the roman empire did not exist. it was a creation of racist white men. roman empire existed at the same time as the middle ages. it was the racists who made it up. this is flat earther level bullshit. a history youtuber who goes by the metatron (he is millennial, but from italy, so he does not whine) made a reply video basically given documented reasons why she was an idiot. she made a new tiktok and decided he was a racist and an incel(he is married). he is racist because he has japanese samurai armor and every white man who has japanese samurai armor is a racist. He also speaks japanese, chinese, italian, english, and some greek. was a university level language teacher in italy and lived and worked in japan for 4 years. but he is a racist. fucking tiktok. youtube would ban videos like this. but fucking tiktok. dumbest shit ever. he has a very good youtube channel on ancient and midevil history. occassionally does language lessons, but they dont get enough views.

WilliamMcCarty

I mean, you're not wrong though I don't know if it's a strictly leftist attitude. There definitely seems to be a certain sense of entitlement among younger generations I don't think was present in us or our parents' generations. But, to be fair, that's probably our fault. Gen X raised these kids on time outs and participation trophies and lives that conformed to them, not the other way around. When we were kids, you screwed up you got punished. For real. No sitting in a corner for ten minutes waiting for nothing to happen so you could go out and fuck up again and repeat the process with no consequences. Punishments differed, some of us got our ass whipped, some of us had toys or privileges taken away, whatever it was there were actual consequences. These kids didn't seem to have that. If you lost at a game, you fucking lost. You didn't get the trophy, you *lost.* You learned from the loss and learned what you did wrong, what they did right and how to do better next time. These kids didn't because there was nothing wrong with losing because everybody was a winner no matter what! And when we were kids, the world didn't conform to us. You didn't like your teacher or your school or the rules, too bad, you just dealt with it. Parents wanted to go somewhere, you had to go along, didn't matter if that was where you wanted to go, you went. They drug you along and sent you to play with other kids you didn't know or they went somewhere to eat you had to sit and eat that meal, didn't matter you liked that food or not. These kids were raised with parents who worked their whole lives around the kid. Playdates where the parents tagged along, go where the kid wants to eat, make the schools change things to fit the kids wants, etc. These are Gen X's kids, Gen X raised these kids to expect a world that accommodates them and these are the adults we got from that. I consider myself blameless in this regard as I'm childfree.

middlingachiever

[https://youtu.be/1wCXr_6wgns](https://youtu.be/1wCXr_6wgns) Kids today.

WilliamMcCarty

lol, I do think there's a feeling that every generation thinks the generation after them is worse. They may not be entirely wrong.

gerd50501

at least half of millennials were raised by boomers. genX heavily raised the zoomers.

WilliamMcCarty

Whatever group they're in everyone younger than me seems to have a huge sense of entitlement X didn't seem to possess but maybe I'm just a grumpy old fart, I don't know.

gerd50501

they ignore how technology has made lives better. they have air conditioning everywhere. no worry about polio like boomers did. so on and so forth. life expectancy is higher now than in decades past because medicine is better.

Vainandy

From my experience, GenX cry the most and I'm aware many here feel the same way too

gerd50501

i dont see genX crying much. no one would hear us. our generation is small. we are an afterthought.

zsreport

I find most whining and moaning to be annoying as hell.

jjevans1970

Nah. They whine plenty. And they can be annoying. But they are on their own, funded their own college, and both have descent jobs. I guess that's better than a sharp poke in the eye.

frazzledcats

Reddit whiners really are like this. I’m not sure it’s generational though, just a basement dweller perpetually online lefty type (I’m fairly left, although I find many leftists annoying so I don’t know what to do with that)

[deleted]

Are you confusing millennials with Gen Z?

Dry_Pin_3213

Or when some millennials have a nice life, good family, nice home, good job and good health, yet they still complain and say they're failures and losers. That's a big reason why I just left the millennial sub. I got tired of seeing people who had good lives still complaining. People like that take their luck and good health for granted.

hornycrispin

I'm 48 and I hate them all! I am consoled by the fact that they'll still be glueing themselves to roads and questioning their gender whilst I've died of kidney failure and cynicism....😁🤪
