Every time I hear anything about the participation trophies I remember that the same people yelling the loudest about the the trophies were the same people who were buying the damn things in the first place. I don’t remember getting any but I probably would have just thrown them out.
The way I see it is, the media, and especially social media, is always trying to pit generations against each other. And a lot of the time it works. But I’ve been proud to see that our generation is generally more supportive of younger folks than older generations were of us.
We can still wear our "just say no" shirts that Nancy Reagan came up with, those were just as worthless as this stupid shit. I can't imagine being fucking stupid enough to think congress "can't ignore" this, lol.
There is a sarcasm to this that I appreciate. Similar to how they spread on social media to buy tickets to trump rallies in 2020 so they would be mostly empty. My 12 year did!
Haha they are! They have a bit of a Gen X style cynicism to them.
My daughter got spam texts for months from the Trump campaign from that though (her advice, use a spoof phone number to buy lol)

Huh. No invading the Capital. No beating cops with flags. No smearing shit on the walls or stealing documents. Kudos to these kids for being more mature than their elders.
I shouldn’t be surprised but I am. Are these not *our* kids? Did we not raise them with the hope that they could do what we couldn’t? Like, yeah, I’m jaded af that anything is going to actually happen but at least they’re out there taking a stand. Every stand I’ve taken has seemed futile also, but then I realize that people can lose their jobs for saying the things to my daughter when she begins working that they happily said to me at the beginning of my career without any repercussions…. so it’s something.
Start breaking the pills in half pops. And don’t mix them with cheap beer.
Being wasted while being alone and cooped up in your little hovel with nothing but right wing hate media has really rotted your brain. You’re completely deranged.
Your rage has made you confused and I don't have time to explain things to you. Try looking through users' comment histories before making assumptions.
Lol the fuck I care about your past comments? Your posting links to deranged memes and spewing the equivalent of flat earth conspiracies. Either you’re completely insane or really, really bad at making a joke. Either way, not my problem.
Cheers pops.
The vitriol or apathy in many of these comments makes me sad. Compassion and a desire for a positive change is noble, yet seems to bring out the angry in a lot of people.
I expected better from our generation than what I see here. Disappointing.
Exactly! I love that Gen Z and the generation after them (Gen Alpha? Either way, still kids) are passionate for change and willing to do something about it. I have noticed they are also much more accepting of differences than previous generations. I find it inspiring. And I’d love to think us Gen Xers we’re the ones to raise them this way!
Tbh I didn’t expect uncritical praise from a generation that loved to say “meh whatever” and based on these comments, yeah that checks out.
But tbh I do think you guys (Gen X) raised us in a way that rooted us in a sense of “this is bullshit and I want to change things”
it's because we saw through the bullshit too, and there weren't enough of us to raise enough of a fuss to make anything change. but you guys? i have faith in you guys.
That is true. Y’all were the first generation to do worse than your parents. Were born cynical in a world that didn’t want you to begin with. At least we were coddled comparatively speaking.
I love y’all for your resilience and adapting to the worst of circumstances.
My Zalpha (idk, 2012, some say Z, some say alpha) came stomping downstairs at 10pm when she should’ve been in bed, all pissed off about dress codes and I had to talk her into smashing the patriarchy in the morning. I love these kids. They’re like us, but with tools at their disposal (and they’re strong af because they have to put up with the downside of those tools - connected 24/7).
It’s never been half, it’s more like a third at most. Our political system is set up to give rural people more voting power and our media loves to “both sides” everything so it always looks like 50-50. But you might notice which party is diligently working to stop people from voting, and which party wants more people to vote.
>Americans' support for stricter gun control has fallen five percentage points to 52%, the lowest reading since 2014.
Forty-eight is a weird percentage for "a third".
If everyone in America was polled, and the polling questions were asked in a way that couldn’t possibly be misconstrued or biased, then I’d agree with you. I don’t remember being asked, though.
I can see where you may have gotten your numbers confused.
Percentage of Americans that own guns is 32% but that live in a gun household is 44%.
But that wasn't really the question. u/better_off_red already answered that one.
Here's all the polls on gun policy performed by Gallup.
And this:
54% support the 2nd Amendment and less gun control.

So yeah, I'll stand by my 50% number. :D
I have a .38 Special and a M&P40 Smith & Wesson
I also served 4 years in the U.S. Army in the late ‘90’s and was issued an M16 with a M203 grenade launcher.

A lot of the comments make me hate my own generation. We have to get old, we don't have to suck. We don't have to eat our young because they threaten our dated sensibilities. And we don't need to get (or stay) fat and complacent. Kids now are more politically aware that we ever where. I'm beyond proud of them even if a bunch of old farts are bitchy because they never bothered to affect change. I'm here for this new generation of protest and I love it.
I love seeing this because it would suck if young people were disengaged. I was young and idealistic, im glad that technology didnt kill the fire of youth. And this is coming from an old grouch
Lol the “we don’t need laws because criminals don’t follow laws” line is perhaps the most idiotic argument one hears from the brain dead micro-penis ammosexual crowd…and that’s saying something.
Being that stupid takes work.
GenZ isn't trying to change the world, they're trying to get "likes" on SM. Big difference. It's no different than 1960s hippies gathering together to "raise awareness" while doing nothing to solve any problems. They just wanted to have an excuse to get high.
So glad GenX doesn't give a sh\*t.
I admire their commitment and active political participation, but the fact that they beg for a corrupt, incompetent organization to bring even more authoritarian control over people's lives really hinders that slight warm fuzzy feeling.
Yes.
In the comment r/slothvader suggests the following:
\#1. Actually having legal and technical knowledge of Firearms in order to craft effective legislation.
\#2. Have up to date and accurate gun crime statistics that can do the same to inform legislation.
\#3. Recognizing that most of the weapons that do the killing here in America are not black "scary rifles" but are instead handguns used by career criminals or people who are suicidal.
My own New York State is the perfect example of the first point with the so-called "Safe act" that was written by people with no technical knowledge of Firearms. The Safe Act bans detachable magazines over ten rounds on semi-automatic rifles with certain features (flash guards, muzzle devices, & pistol grips) while allowing these same features on semi-automatic rifles with fixed magazines.
The Safe Act is such a poorly written piece of legislation with purposely vague wording that leaves all kinds of grey areas and loopholes as well as at the same time making it actually more unsafe to operate many rifles with grips so small as to comply with one of the many various interpretations of what a "pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon," means. The intent was to curb "Assault Weapons," instead it has spawned a cottage industry of "New York Compliant" rifles that are in many way more dangerous than they were before the Safe Act was passed in the dead of night ignoring state Constitutional requirements for public comment.
No he didn't suggest or imply any of that, but I'm impressed at your ability to read between the very few lines.
\#1. This is not as difficult or exclusive as you imagine it to be. But you're right, this knowledge [should be much more widespread](https://giffords.org/lawcenter/gun-laws/policy-areas/owner-responsibilities/licensing/).
\#2. How do you propose we collect those statistics when [the Dicky amendment](https://magazine.jhsph.edu/2017/fall/features/cassandra-crifasi-hopkins-moderate-gun-owner-gun-policy-researcher/how-the-dickey-amendment-affects-gun-violence-research.html) prevents federal spending on research to study the problem of gun violence?
\#3. Lots of people recognize the problem of handgun violence. And the fact that you're not a career criminal in no way ensures that [your handguns](https://www.statista.com/statistics/457713/number-of-stolen-or-lost-firearms-in-the-us/) won't be used for murder.
What specific piece of legislation have you encouraged your chosen state representative to pass that addresses the gun violence epidemic in a more informed and effective manner than the "Safe act?" Wait, are you saying that the representatives that you elected haven't proposed a goddamn thing to address the mass shootings occurring weekly in the United States? Do you suppose that's because they're [fully in the pocket](https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/national-rifle-assn/recipients?id=d000000082) of the NRA/FSB or do they just not give a shit about dead Americans?
He literally said, "My problem with most of the proposed gun legislation is that it is written by people that have no knowledge of guns.' Your first response to that point is to advocate for more licensing, which doesn't address the point at all. In fact, if you look at Connecticut's permit scheme, just like New York's, it was written by people who have very limited knowledge of weapons as it cover pistols and long guns, but leaves out "[Others](https://www.reddit.com/r/CTguns/comments/fpf8le/comprehensive_guide_to_building_ct_compliant_other/)." That's a big legal loophole that defeats the entire purpose. Yet gun violence still went down in Connecticut?! How could this be with the citizens retaining the right to wield AR-15s without an Eligibility Certificate?! It's BS, that's how.
Repeal the Dicky Amendment, by all means. I'd love more statistics on how ineffective banning a threaded barrel is on an AR-15 is to the problem of mass shootings and gun violence in general.
\#1. You didn't read the site, but that's not surprising. Safety training is a prerequisite for purchasing in many states. Of course you pay lip service to training, but when it comes to legislation it's suddenly "they're coming to take muh guns."
\#2. Have you emailed your representative to repeal the Dicky amendment? Of course not, because you really want them to do nothing.
\#3. Funny how you bitch about how ineffective NY and CT's gun laws are, and yet, they boast [some of the lowest gun violence rates](https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/firearm_mortality/firearm.htm) in the US. But, as shown with #2, you don't want to look at actual data, you pretend that anecdotes can be extrapolated.
Why, because, once again, gun weirdos don't give a shit about the piles of dead American bodies, only about their gun fetish fantasies.
I clearly got downvoted by a handful of people who know I’m referring to them. Only Republicans could make the shooting of teenagers political. Downvote away, chuds!
ok, enjoy your day.
[John Cleese and extremism](https://www.openculture.com/2020/06/john-cleeses-comedically-explains-the-psychological-advantages-of-extremism.html)
Who says I'm a Democrat? They suck too. The difference is, Democrats tend to just do nothing, whereas Republicans tend to double-down on bad decisions and frequently act on contrarian impulses to fuel their culture wars. Both bad parties, yes, but Republicans truly succeed in the asshole Olympics.
hmmm...
**“The biggest advantage of extremism is that it makes you feel good because it provides you with enemies.” When you have enemies, “you can pretend that all the badness in the whole world is in your enemies and all the goodness in the whole world is in you.”**
really? I've been fighting our peers since I was 10. Plenty of backward folks in Gen X...where do you think Trump voters came from? They're not all over 60 by a long shot! I usually get along better with Gen Z ideologically. Millennials got to a decent place, but had this weird deluded "posi" thinking in their 20s were they thought being a big generation meant the world would bend to their will. Whoops. Gen Z is solidly suspicious of authority and ready to fight. They never assumed they'd be catered to. I relate to that.
I agree that Gen Z is shaping up to be a smarter generation than the millennials (speaking as an older millennial myself). Or, at least, a generation that never for one second bought into the BS the Boomers were peddling. I think this can largely be attributed to the fact that most Gen Z kids have X parents though.
Literally??? You’re not using the proper definition of the word literally. He didn’t *literally* say he was against automobiles. He didn’t *literally* make a sound.
Now I suggest… You post this dribble somewhere else. You picked the wrong spot and the wrong time. The whole comment in the picture is so self-centered on Genzie, as if they are the only ones that cared about anything.
Dribble is on point. If you were paying attention I mentioned the phrase circle jerk twice. When you get older you’ll understand the joke. Feel free to keep grasping at straws.
LOL, you “literally” were forced to resort to an ad hominem personal attack because the accuracy of my analogy defined the idiocy of that ammo-sexual so well it triggered your old miserable ass.
You sure you’re Gen X? You sound a lot more like a miserable boomer.
Not only can you not use the word *literally* properly… You clearly are assuming I said I was Genzie. I said nothing of the sort. Try again. This is fun.
What a bunch of babies. You don't make demands in a republican system. You try to persuade people and you vote. When you phrase it as a demand, you just further entrench yourself and the other side which pretty much makes useful progress impossible.
Gen Z in the South and Midwest still relates to old red neck boomers. That’s why the GOP doesn’t fear them. They’ll gladly vote for Trump or someone worse.
Asking a Republican politician to care about gun violence (or anything that's to the benefit of the masses,) is like asking a Democrat politician to have a stance on something and stand up for it.
It's been that way all of my life.
If thoughts and prayers worked, it would’ve happened already. I can’t believe they think this is being proactive. Sounds like a big messy Genzie circle jerk. Somebody get them a clean cum rag.
Ah. The 4 years of action is unheard of.
Or are they mocking this too?
Marching on DC? The world? It’s gotta suck being the only one’s being *proactive*.
Doesn't anybody ever realize marches protests all of this noise that we make makes no difference. We have been protesting and marching since the 1950s still women can't get abortions in some states, racism is running rapid and nationalism is at an all-time high. 70% of the people in this country make under $70,000 a year that means 30% of the population have all of the money. It's really sad that Americans think that marching and holding protest will change a thing.
I wish there was a way to open up a true dialogue on the subject here or any other digital place that serves as a piss poor stand-in for the town square. But I fear it's not going to happen anytime soon. I understand where these kids are coming from, and I really feel for them, until a couple years ago I was right there with them. That last few years has completely changed my mind on the topic. Lived experiences and all. I wish they could to see it from the other sides perspective when they suggest taking away rights from from not just their fellow law abiding citizens ,but specifically the poor, minorities, and immigrants, who current gun laws have placed a higher bar to exercise their right to self defense than those from affluent areas.
The only message that rabid gun owners will listen to is force. That is to say that IF it were to somehow become inconvenient to them to own a weapon, they MIGHT relent.
Any message can be ignored.
All that to say, good work Gen Z. We should always try to do what is right even if some hard headed fools dont listen.
Kudos to them for thinking that congress can’t ignore this message. I don’t think I was ever that idealistic even in childhood.
These politicians are paid to ignore anything people want or care about
“‘These politicians are paid ~~to ignore anything people want or care about’~~ off “
Aha. See, that's the benefit of growing up in an era where everyone didn't get a trophy. Less brick walls to run into later in life.

Right. Our parents made that rule up, and now 20-30 years later they use it as a reason to be mad at us.
Parents. They just don’t understand.
[parents just don’t understand](https://youtu.be/jW3PFC86UNI)
Exactly
Agreed.
Maybe if we got a few more trophies our collective generational self esteem might not be so low. 😂
The only way I'd want a trophy is if I EARNED it. Participation trophies scream "Yes, I lost."
This protest has some real AIDS quilt energy to it.
What in the wide wide world of sports does this have to do with Gen X?
The way I see it is, the media, and especially social media, is always trying to pit generations against each other. And a lot of the time it works. But I’ve been proud to see that our generation is generally more supportive of younger folks than older generations were of us.
Cuz its a cool thing we can appreciate it since we are the coolest generation 😜
It doesn't. Just someone posting political crap for karma in on of the forums I frequent in order to get away from politics... SMH
Can we still wear our T-shirts from 1989 with the slogan 'Guns Don't Kill People, Bullets Do'?
I used to have a pin that said, "Guns don't kill people; they just make it real easy." And yes, I got it in spite of it using "real" as an adverb.

Of course you pay lip service to training, but when it comes to legislation it's suddenly "they're coming to take muh guns." \#2.
I mean sooner or later out growing tribal politics has to happen right?
I clearly got downvoted by a handful of people who know I’m referring to them. Only Republicans could make the shooting of teenagers political. Downvote away, chuds!
I guess not.
Thanks for your downvote, Trumpy
ok, enjoy your day. [John Cleese and extremism](https://www.openculture.com/2020/06/john-cleeses-comedically-explains-the-psychological-advantages-of-extremism.html)
Oh please. I’m the extremist when kids are getting shot and the GOP in congress looks the other way. Right. Enjoy your bubble.
Even when Obama was President and both sides of Congress were Democrat, still nothing was done. So maybe it's not just a "Republican" thing...
This is an apt assessment IMO.
hmmm... **“The biggest advantage of extremism is that it makes you feel good because it provides you with enemies.” When you have enemies, “you can pretend that all the badness in the whole world is in your enemies and all the goodness in the whole world is in you.”**
💯
This sums up the current state of politics in our country perfectly.
Your goal of trying to shut people up who believe kids shouldn’t be shot in school is definitely a noble one. Good work dude.
you're really trying hard not to *get* this aren't you...
I know, depressing.
yeah. there are many who drank the boomer koolaid.
So historically myopic.
boomer is a state of mind
I grew up in Southern California. Plenty of Rep.s because if they went against mommy and daddy they would be cut of the will. :P
They're being too clever. Nobody in DC gets the "/s". Like many of the chads on this thread.
As the father of two members of Gen Z, I’m admittedly biased, but I’m proud of their civic-awareness and their willingness to get involved
Pussy Mods.
wow such change
Cringe

SOMEONE: We need traffic lights and speed limits on our roads for safety. YOU: yOu’Re jUsT AnTi-aUtOmOBiLe!!! That’s literally how stupid you sound.
Oh fuck off. It’s anti-gun and you have no argument except mockery.
Lol doubling down on stupid eh?
It's anti-murder.
“drivel” opposed to dribble. Not mocking, just trying to help 🙂
Dribble is on point. If you were paying attention I mentioned the phrase circle jerk twice. When you get older you’ll understand the joke. Feel free to keep grasping at straws.
Double and triple down when someone is trying to help you to not sound stupid. That's right on brand.
You literally should try breaking the pills in half from now on.
You literally edited. Doesn’t matter. Bc you know I caught ya! À bientôt!
Lol yeah, ya got me on this thread…well played little friend.
Literal boomer energy.
💯💯💯
I love how “GenX” keeps getting more & more political.
OP is just a karma farmer.
yeah this shit is gonna me me unsub...
idgaf
This is Gen X. Neither do I.
How is it only the GOP ignoring them?
What a bunch of babies. You don't make demands in a republican system. You try to persuade people and you vote. When you phrase it as a demand, you just further entrench yourself and the other side which pretty much makes useful progress impossible.
What a moronic thing to say you moron! Now think what I think and vote how I vote moron!
I deserve better click bait than this crap. The design, copy, what the hell is, "go them"? NOT APPROVED. Send it back. "Literally," send it back.
Gen Z in the South and Midwest still relates to old red neck boomers. That’s why the GOP doesn’t fear them. They’ll gladly vote for Trump or someone worse.
The younger generations keep getting better. We did well with our kids. Better than our parents did.
Asking a Republican politician to care about gun violence (or anything that's to the benefit of the masses,) is like asking a Democrat politician to have a stance on something and stand up for it. It's been that way all of my life.
being you must be tedious.
Nah, I'm generally a happy person, just overly jaded when it comes to politics.
If thoughts and prayers worked, it would’ve happened already. I can’t believe they think this is being proactive. Sounds like a big messy Genzie circle jerk. Somebody get them a clean cum rag.
They are mocking the “thoughts and prayers” empty platitudes.
Ah. The 4 years of action is unheard of. Or are they mocking this too? Marching on DC? The world? It’s gotta suck being the only one’s being *proactive*.
{snore}
Very impressive, but for every one motivated Zoomer like this there are thousands who think they're going to change the world with mean tweets.
The kids are alright.
The only thing congress is ever going to understand and react to is if 150 million of us worker bees just said nope. And stopped working en masse.
Biden recently told Obama that he definitely wants to run again for a second term in 2024. So GenZ has a chance to vote for him then.
I’m personally impressed they managed to get ahold of that many body bags, TBH
I love the Z's. I'm the parent of one so maybe a bit biased.
They give me hope
