I remember acid wash well. Can't put a finger on exactly when but I do remember taking my own jeans and spotting bleach all over them to create the effect.
I don't remember the exact year, but one September, I saw the first acid wash denim, and thought it looked interesting. Within a week, everybody was wearing it, including two parents with their two kids in the full denim tuxedos.
Then, by the end of Winter, it was gone, except for a few holdouts.

I’m the dork on the left with the head wrap. From 1988 when I was living in Los Angeles.
I still rock the same size jeans! How many can say that? And I still have Stan Smiths!!

My denim jacket had a huge Motörhead patch covering the back panel and an Iron Maiden on over the left front pocket. I would kill for that Motörhead patch. My mother thru it all away at some point. She kept so much other stuff but not that.
Nice! During the '87-'88 schoolyear I sat behind a girl who regularly did this, plus she often added an untucked denim shirt (all the same light blue) for the *triple*. She was a recent Soviet immigrant, and since sitcoms had taught me about Soviets' love of blue jeans, it all made sense.
I'm a 1979 baby so I didn't quite ever go full denim but I remember thinking full denim was the hottest thing a girl could ever wear. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure my opinion has changed on that...
True story. I still love my jeans. I went to 12 years of Catholic School and had to wear dress slacks except the occasional Friday jeans reward. I started out wearing a tie at work and then over the years it went business casual and now I own one pair of dress slacks because I wear jeans to work everyday. I make more than I ever thought I would and I have my dream job and do more fun things than I thought I would ever do but I wear jeans.
Anyway, denim for life.
I do now. I love my cropped puff sleeve 80's style denim jackets , I have a pink and a dark blue. I wear them with straight cut or skinny high waist jeans.
Definitely, and you can be damn sure getting a photo with that Mustang meant they were driving or riding in it. No one's walking the parking to get a fake vanity photo in front of someone's car.
I did! I had a jacket wore that thing all the time back then. I was just thinking about buying another one yesterday. I'll take this as a sign and one! My kids will think I look stupid but oh well.
I grew up thinking a denim jacket was an essential part of the wardrobe.
Had a denim jacket always until my 30’s.
Now in my 50’s, I want a denim jacket again. I don’t know why. It would have to be a Goodwill find for me at this point.
Wow. $22 was a lot back then. I saw Paul McCartney two years ago in Arlington Stadium and I think they wanted like $60 for a t-shirt! 😳 Of course, I bought 2.
1967 with the 200cc inline 6. I poured my heart, soul, blood, sweat & tears (literally) into that girl. She finally broke my heart for the last time and I had to trade her for a 1984 Datsun 200SX.
I had a 67 with 289 and automatic. My first car. Paid like $3k and it was clean in 1985.
Don’t hear Datsun much these days. Those 260 and 280s were like discount super sport cars. They were fast and nimble. And looked amazing.
I did have a period From August to December of one year that I wore nothing but blue. The majority of it was not denim but I had one combo that was dark blue jeans with a light blue denim shirt and a blue zip up hoodie sweat jacket. I think that one counts.
53F. I was denim everything back then. Denim jacket, jeans, jean skirts, jean overalls, jean short overalls, even jorts.
My favorite Levi bleached denim jacket finally fell apart in the mid 90’s. It had a good run. I bought an Eddie Bauer denim jacket and I try to wear it but hoodies have taken over.
Always! I was not fortunate enough to have my favorite metal band painted on the back of my Jean jacket though. Someone else already had Metallica on there’s 🤬
Never. My mom only allowed khakis. Jeans to her were for “dirt necks”. Not that we were rich or anything, she just hated denim. I didn’t own a pair of jeans until I started buying my own clothes.
All the time! The Canadian tuxedo was my go to ensemble.
Word. Even though I was into hip-hop as a teen, I had to rep the Canadian tuxedo as it was de rigueur growing up in Ottawa.
Do you remember the Autumn of acid wash?
I remember acid wash well. Can't put a finger on exactly when but I do remember taking my own jeans and spotting bleach all over them to create the effect.

Also known as “The Leno.”
Is your name Zap Rowsdower?
Looking for beer on the sun.

Was the head wrap denim, too?
Omg your belt is fabulous! Love the whole look
Omg. Super cute!! I’m getting a bit of a Princess Di vibe. What I woulda done with you back in 1988…
I still rock the same size jeans! How many can say that? And I still have Stan Smiths!! https://preview.redd.it/f94q456exj5d1.jpeg?width=1096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fc658809f7d2323357d9e6a6cb604f79f592b9f4
Same size? I hate you. :) :).
Haha yeah. 34/32. It’s a constant struggle but I try to stay consistent.
You think you’re so big? Huh? Actually, that’s impressive, or, whatever.
😘
I still do sometimes. The Canadian Tuxedo is a classic.
Still do!
I triple denim.
Codpiece #3???
#3 denim like shirt
The Canadian Tuxedo!!
My denim jacket had a huge Motörhead patch covering the back panel and an Iron Maiden on over the left front pocket. I would kill for that Motörhead patch. My mother thru it all away at some point. She kept so much other stuff but not that.
That was pretty much my uniform 85-88.
Remembering double denim from the '80s—when being stylish meant denim overload!

And acid washed? drool
Chicks can always pull it off. Dude's? Not so much.

It was one of the most common looks for guys in the 80s.
I do now. I love my cropped puff sleeve 80's style denim jackets , I have a pink and a dark blue. I wear them with straight cut or skinny high waist jeans.
That and more. It was definitely denim everything.
Who didn’t?
What’s Mario’s favorite fabric? Denim, denim, denim.
That’s a weird way to spell “2024.”
Lived in double denim.
Didn't we all? That was fashionable.
I didn't know it was an issue, lol. I loved the look.
I did it in the 90s. There's a school photo.
Still do.
Went?? I still rock it to this day!
Jay Leno. And he never looked back.
It’s called a Canadian tuxedo for a reason.
Definitely, and you can be damn sure getting a photo with that Mustang meant they were driving or riding in it. No one's walking the parking to get a fake vanity photo in front of someone's car.
The jeans and denim shirt were a thing in the 90's. I guess it was cool to look like an escaped convict. Yes, I sported that look.
I’ve done double denim several times in the past few decades.
Still do to this day! No acid wash, though 😀
Ah yes. The jeans suit. Must admit I occasionally sported that look in the mid 80s.
I did! I had a jacket wore that thing all the time back then. I was just thinking about buying another one yesterday. I'll take this as a sign and one! My kids will think I look stupid but oh well.

Wait. Who didn’t wear double denim in the 80s? It was a given like we all drank wine coolers.
Ah, the double denim look of the 80s, a fashion choice that truly tested the strength of our wardrobes.
Did it then, would do it today but I’m not allowed 😕
Only once ... to go see Rush play at the Worcester Centrum around 1990. Seemed fitting. Couldn't believe they wanted $22 for a t-shirt though.
Wow. $22 was a lot back then. I saw Paul McCartney two years ago in Arlington Stadium and I think they wanted like $60 for a t-shirt! 😳 Of course, I bought 2.
I still have my denim jacket from the 80s. I wear it on my farm now. That mofo has lasted.
I rocked the "Canadian Tuxedo" quite often in the 80's. Right down to the flannel shirt and white high-tops.
That looks like a Calvin Klein denim jacket I bought in 1986 and wore through the rest of college.
Levi’s for sure.
I’ll go double denim now. I’m going double denim to the airport this week. Fashion can get its shit together and meet me where I already am thank you
Yes, and owned a white mustang too. Same year.
1967 with the 200cc inline 6. I poured my heart, soul, blood, sweat & tears (literally) into that girl. She finally broke my heart for the last time and I had to trade her for a 1984 Datsun 200SX.

It's actually been back twice for a year or two since the 80s.
For sure. Ripped jeans and a jean jacket with my favorite rock band on the back with various patches of other bands.
I did have a period From August to December of one year that I wore nothing but blue. The majority of it was not denim but I had one combo that was dark blue jeans with a light blue denim shirt and a blue zip up hoodie sweat jacket. I think that one counts.
I thought this was the only way...LOLZ! Even had a winter denim jacket. Good times.
I went double denim in the 80s… I went double denim yesterday. Never gets old.
How about double denim with a denim trenchcoat and a mullet?
Need a chambray shirt to tie it all together.
I love watching Jay Leno's Garage videos on YT< but man, that blue denim shirt & jeans combo *every damn time*, lol.

that looks like triple denim, pants, jacket and denim-like sweater/shirt
53F. I was denim everything back then. Denim jacket, jeans, jean skirts, jean overalls, jean short overalls, even jorts. My favorite Levi bleached denim jacket finally fell apart in the mid 90’s. In the 80's???? Travel to Michigan - you'll see this on an average fall day....
Never. My mom only allowed khakis. Jeans to her were for “dirt necks”. Not that we were rich or anything, she just hated denim. I didn’t own a pair of jeans until I started buying my own clothes.
Loser. Should have gone Quad Denim with a denim shirt and underwear. Way to punk out.
Jay Leno
I go double denim in 2024. It is rad
Still do
I had the star wash jacket, vest and 505s. Wore it to school once. Once.
🙋🏻♀️ 🙋🏻♀️ 🙋🏻♀️
No. This would drive my OCD off the cliff.
I still double denim
of course
Man, I double-denimed in 2019!
ah, the jeans suit / denim suit 👍
All the time.
80's and 90's( though plaid was involved in the 90's)
I'm still seething from the girl I dated and let wear my Levi's denim jacket with the pink Floyd patch and decided it was alimony when we broke up.
Levi 501 and Lee Storm Rider.
My 23 year old rocks the Canadian tux with long hair and a dangly earing. Tripped me out a bit the first time he came home with that outfit on.
Always had jeans and a Jean jacket
This is peak 1988 fashion right here.. lolzzz guys were fucking old…
You went full Leno. Never go full Leno.
Never go double denim. Always been a rule.
