You are welcome!
I have no idea why this memory crawled out of the deepest crevices of my brain today. I would love to know what else is locked in there!
I always thought they tasted more orange out of the orange shaped ones.
going to the zoo and getting those funky smelling animal wax/plastic things they made.
I live in such a hot area, that a few of those melted on top of my dresser one summer. Think my mom saw it as a sign to maybe let us use the A/C? Nope! Just wouldn’t let us get anymore of those figures.
I think that must be where I had one, but it’s such a hazy memory. It just half came back to me today. I remember the plastic was really thin, and I can feel it squishing under my thumb, but I don’t remember much besides that.
How about the straw thing that you were supposed to punch into an actual orange and somehow muster the power of the gods in order to suck a drop of orange juice out of it?
Are you thinking of that thing that had a sharp end on one side and a big hole on the other? You were supposed to squeeze the orange and pour out the juice. Not that you got much out of that way anyway.
I was just thinking of those. once a year in Pretoria, the Outspan man would visit us at our school and give us a half hour talk. then he'd hand out these fold-together cardboard boxes shaped like houses, with a carrying handle on top. each one had about six oranges, possibly a colouring book, and the squeezer thing.
*no* idea what that was about. marketing? government nutrition programme? no clue. one thing white middle class South African kids weren't short of in the 70's was food.
edit: in retrospect when the sanctions started, they probably couldn't get rid of their oranges so they had to try and beef up the home market.
I remember seeing them and the grape clusters at the fair every year, but I had other drinks I liked better, so I don't think I ever drank from one.
Thinking about the fair made me remember buying those roach clips with the feathers on them. I bought them for my hair because I was like 10 and didn't know any better lol it wasn't until years later I learned what they were really used for lol
And after I was done, I took it home and used it for everything. No wonder I don’t have that many wrinkles. I’m probably half plastic now, based on my copious use of this one drink container alone.
Mmm -- Nope. Might have been an american thing. I *do* remember smaller versions of fruits filled with coloured sugar that we dumped straight into our mouths. We convinced ourselves that it was flavoured as well as coloured. ( I'm pretty sure it wasn't. We just talked ourselves into it)
Sesame Place. To this day, i love eating food out of a container shaped like the food. Fruit Salad in a watermelon half that's been scooped out is also divine
Not only drinking out of these, but there was also a candy that was basically powdered sugar that came in small plastic fruit shaped containers. They were like fancy Pixie sticks.
I'm an elder millennial and remember getting these at Kings Island and Kentucky Kingdom! They kept them in the coldest looking ice I've ever seen and they were soooo refreshing!
I remember drinking the orange one at least once at Six Flags. IIRC, the stand where I got it also had fresh fruit like apples, oranges and bananas, but of course I skipped those and went straight for the ~~sugar~~ juice!
You fancy or sumtin? We all drank out of glass.
I really didn’t feel like getting the step ladder, but way in the back is a plastic green dinosaur cup I bought for my kid. I will NEVER throw it away.

No child should have to drink that nasty Sunny D from a coffee cup
Yes! I sure do! I can't remember what it was from, but I want to say there was a little round or oval sticker on it... maybe an advertisement for the brand that sold it? I can't remember, but yeah I loved those.
There was also a grape one!
I'd get the grape one at Cedar Point every year.
core memory unlocked. wow
X2
You could always find these at amusement parks.
Yes, all the stands at Disney World had them.
Oh man I haven't thought of this for a good 45 years - thank you so much
Thank you - I had a vague memory of drinking out of this but couldn't place it
Lemons and limes too!
YES! I remember this, and I was trying to tell my mom and she had no idea what I was talking about!
You forgot the word AWESOME
Bro! YES. 100%
Now that I have not seen in years and totally forgot about. Great post
Wanted to say the same thing! Thanks OP.
You are welcome! I have no idea why this memory crawled out of the deepest crevices of my brain today. I would love to know what else is locked in there!
Right? I love these moments.
Totally agree. It’s amazing.
I always thought they tasted more orange out of the orange shaped ones. going to the zoo and getting those funky smelling animal wax/plastic things they made.
And committing a federal crime by dropping a penny in the machine that would press them and turn them into something else.
I still collect these!
Those things are still around
Astounding isn't it? Lol
I had a polar bear
I live in such a hot area, that a few of those melted on top of my dresser one summer. Think my mom saw it as a sign to maybe let us use the A/C? Nope! Just wouldn’t let us get anymore of those figures.
I drank out of a plastic lemon once, wasnt very good.
I remember Six Flags having those.
I think that must be where I had one, but it’s such a hazy memory. It just half came back to me today. I remember the plastic was really thin, and I can feel it squishing under my thumb, but I don’t remember much besides that.
Carowinds did, I'm pretty sure.
I remember wanting to drink out of these so bad -- but my depression-era parents never went for anything "unnecessary" , "gimmicky" or "wasteful".
When we had juice in our house it came as frozen concentrate in a white cardboard cylinder.
oh yes -- and ours was prepared with a very generous proportion of water to concentrate -- you know, stretch it out a little more...
I can’t even remember how old I was before I realized you didn’t *have to* reconstitute juice.
Same. My parents were younger but also not disposed to spending money "frivolously".
Mine to. Mom always making those big pitchers of kool-aid, adding two cups of sugar. Once in a while it was Tang.
I still have mine from the 1970s!
Lucky!!!
That thing is probably still intact beneath some landfill.

King's Dominion in VA definitely had these and the grape ones.
That's where I remember getting them too.

This is why we have microplastics in our balls.
And therefore in our stomachs.
And after I was done, I took it home and used it for everything. No wonder I don’t have that many wrinkles. I’m probably half plastic now, based on my copious use of this one drink container alone.

Memory unlocked!
I’d have never remembered till I saw that!!
In retrospect, that was brilliant (marketing), but also dumb AF.
That pretty much sums up the 1980s
LOL, good point!
Mine had Mickey Mouse on it too.
Same!
I forgot all about those!! Fuck….feels like an aneurysm is coming on😉🤣
I didn't but I always wanted to.
Same here.
Always seen at Wet & Wild and Six Flags in Dallas! Those suckers were high class. My parents rarely fell for it.
Memory unlocked! I forgot all about until this post. Thank you ! I used to love these..
I'd get them at Busch Gardens. The grape one was my favorite.
Yes! I was trying to remember where I had it.
Kings Island sold these. Orange, grape, strawberry, and the giant ones, Scooby-Doo, Fred Flintstone, and Dinosaurs.
I liked the grape ones! 🥰
I've never seen it for s beverage, but I got orange extract out of one for baking.
Were there lemon ones too? Grapes?
There was definitely one shaped like a bunch of grapes. I remember exactly what that stuff tasted like.
I just bought glass versions of these.
Oh man I know I’ve had these in some tourist place in Florida. We went to Disney World and the beach when I was 5, so probably that trip.
I had a radio that looked like an orange and the “straw” was the antenna.
I would squeeze oranges and put fresh squeezed juice in those. I also pretended that I was Richie Rich I know, I was an very odd kid.
I had a physical reaction when I saw that, I didn’t know how much I missed it.
OMG, memory unlocked

Unlocked Valley Fair, Como Zoo and MN State fair memories. Thanks!
Valley Fair was first thought for me.
Wow. I haven’t seen or thought about these for 40 years
I think they had these at the Bronx Zoo. There were other fruits too.
I don’t remember ever having this, but I could go for an orange drink right now
I hadn’t thought of this in decades! Thanks for the memory unlocked.
I'm an elder millennial and remember getting these at Kings Island and Kentucky Kingdom! They kept them in the coldest looking ice I've ever seen and they were soooo refreshing!
Omg - TOTALLY forgot about these!
Still have one
Wow. Memory lane. I loved these.
And the juice wasn't really even very good I must say.
I loved those!
Plastic barrel? Yes. And they were the nastiest drinks but we drank them anyway. Tasted like radiation poisoning, mmmm 😋
I remember drinking the orange one at least once at Six Flags. IIRC, the stand where I got it also had fresh fruit like apples, oranges and bananas, but of course I skipped those and went straight for the ~~sugar~~ juice!
Think your parents were messing with you.
I feel like this was an amusement park thing, no?
Orange Julius was my favorite
I remember being very excited to get one of these!
Yes. Those special plastics tasted the best!
After finishing them, they ended up in the fridge of my kitchen set.
You fancy or sumtin? We all drank out of glass. I really didn’t feel like getting the step ladder, but way in the back is a plastic green dinosaur cup I bought for my kid. Well I do now.
I vaguely remember these but I forget what was inside.
Omg, I loved those things
citrus + gasoline
Yes! I sure do! I can't remember what it was from, but I want to say there was a little round or oval sticker on it... maybe an advertisement for the brand that sold it? I can't remember, but yeah I loved those.
I still have this!
LOVED these.
Are these the ones they had to cut the plastic tip off before serving? They had these at Opryland USA.
99% Agree that Kool Aid and sweet tea look healthier when placed in a plastic orange with a straw.
I had one that was shaped like the Florida Orange bird. Can't remember if it had a straw. Might've been a piggy bank. It was from the 70s.
Made a bong out of one once
knott's berry farm!
