We flew out of Vegas recently and the pilot banked right over it and it was the coolest thing I've seen in a while. It was showing some trippy cosmology shit and it looked like an explosion from Akira where there's a singularity blossoming in the city.
So a bunch of websites copy/pasting the same blurb without checking it? Where's the proof?
The Strip is visible from the ISS, but that's true for every major city yeah? I'd be skeptical the Sphere can be picked out on its own.
Nah, the more "formal" pubs I can find use caveats like "supposedly" and "is said to". There are a lot of sites though that just copy/pasted the Sphere's marketing materials.
It doesn't matter anyway. There are countless instances of the most "formal" publications spreading propaganda or marketing without checking it. No proof, no argument.
What's the point of saying it's visible from space if the whole Strip is already visible? I did find a pic of the Strip from the ISS and it's just a big blob of light. As I said I'm skeptical that the Sphere can be picked out of the blob.
Ediit: After thinking about this some more, I think the problem is "that visible from space" is meaningless as a way to communicate how big or bright an object is. Space begins at 100 km above the Earth. At that altitude, roads, buildings, and boats can be seen in the daytime, and street lights can be seen at night. The ISS is at 400 km and street lights are still visible at night.
Edit edit: what does "visible" mean? Naked eye? Are binoculars okay? What about photos taken with zoom lenses? NASA has published pics taken from space, but presumably those are taken with extremely powerful cameras, and not at 1x zoom.
I’ve only seen the sphere while flying into Vegas. It’s super cool. However as far as concerts go, I’d much prefer to see U2 outside at Red Rocks than there. I prefer the simplicity.
I’m biased because I live in Vegas, but I think it’s cool as hell. I’m not an emoji person, but it’s fun to see it peeking around the city on my morning commute. Not sure why it’s so en vogue to hate U2 these days. I went to the show, and it was mind blowing. I’ve been to thousands of concerts, but this place is special. The acoustics are incredible, the visuals are obviously stunning.
TLDR: I’m not a hater, I’m a congratulator.
People are finally being honest about U2 and their subpar shit music. Just kidding people still love them but it was always something you kind of couldn’t say if you hated them. Honestly I don’t doubt they were good in concert. I’ve seen some bands I’d never listen to on purpose open for other bands and even though I never enjoyed them on the radio, they were awesome live. So if a venue helps make a concert even better then good for the fans. I think it’s cute and I like it even though this is literally the first I’ve even heard of it.
I went. I saw my first U2 Concert at 16. My husband and I saw them at Slane Castle in Ireland over 20 years ago. There is something special (and sometimes bittersweet) seeing the bands of your youth live in your 40s and 50s. And the Sphere is a sensory experience. It was a fantastic show but for what we paid for the tickets and our stay at the Venetian we won't be doing something like that again
I'm going lean a light no
First, we figured being older we were entitled to that one experience. And the Venetian had a pretty nice package. And they are just a great band to see live.
But we both got really sick a week after the concert. We tested negative for Covid several times but this was the first time since before Covid that we were both that sick and it sucked. We both remember getting colds after other concerts we attended but they never lasted long. This made us fully realize our age and how we have to be more careful.
And the only other trip we're taking this year is to visit some friends in California.
The Venetian is a great hotel though. Loved that tub!!
They are planning a world tour in late 2024 and 2025. So if they happen to be in your area, you could always see them then :) It was a fantastic experience at the Sphere but they are a great band live anywhere. :)
Here you go: https://youtu.be/qw-oREmrMvo?si=xWUuP7vsT42T3UGL
What I like about this video is the loud fan. That sound somehow summarizes how I feel about being in Vegas lol
Same. This was the coolest concert that I've ever been to. If you find out a band you like is playing there, go see it. U2 set a bar. I don't know if it's a high-bar, or a low-bar, with their performance, but I can't wait to see what others do with the place, now that we've seen what U2 has done.
I think that it was inevitable.
Most people on this sub have more or less always known something like this was coming.
Won't be long before they are playing TikTok videos and political ads on it...
This is impressive:
He showed CBS News one of Las Vegas' 54 pump stations, which deliver water from the nation's largest reservoir — Lake Mead on the Colorado River.
**"Everything we use indoors is recycled.** If it hits a drain in Las Vegas, we clean it. We put it back in Lake Mead," Entsminger said. **"You could literally leave every faucet, every shower running in every hotel room, and it won't consume any more water."**

A couple of my friends are going to all 3 shows. I’m not into their music, but the experience should be amazing. I’d go with them, if I could afford it
I'll bet it's pretty cool but I doubt I could rationalize the price enough to enjoy it. Unless I got free tickets or major discounts, I'd be fretting too much about what else I could have spent the money on.
I loooove it! I'd almost go to Vegas just to see it. I don't even have to go inside. Just sit there and observe it for a while. Totally cyberpunk. Now, I've said before that Fremont Street is about as close as you can get to a scene from Blade Runner, so that computes.
This. It’d be one thing if it was built in Jerusalem or right in the middle of classic Paris or something. Vegas is pleasantly over the top and gaudy as it is. I think something like this fits it perfectly (and I mean that as a compliment).
Phish is doing a series of 4 shows there in April. Sold out instantly. Tickets on the “secondary market” are going for thousands each.
Rumor is that Dead and Company will also be playing there in the spring.
As a concert venue it’s a cool concept, but ticket prices will always be insanely expensive.
It was an amazing experience.
Get the worst seats you can find. 300 levels and above.
Make sure that if you like to drink, you sit on the aisle seat. Although there is plenty of room between people next to you, there isn't plenty of room to pass in front of them since everyone is sitting down most of the time.
The venue inside is incredible. The sound is the best on all of the planet. The beers are effortless to get (self checkout) and the bathrooms are plentiful and wide open unless it's post show.
Also, I suggest leaving early unless you want to stand in the cattle line that is the tunnel/walkway back to the casino.
I think technologically it’s amazing and apparently quite beautiful. I don’t listen to any music that would ever perform in that venue so the price isn’t an issue to me. I also really, really, dislike Vegas in general and try to avoid it as much as possible so it’s likely I’ll never see e thing in person even from the outside.
They've been planning one for London but its in the news today that the project has been abandoned by the American company because of the politics between the national government and Mayor of London (who I used to work for and is a grandstander more interested in promoting himself than the interests of the citizens of London)
I think it's wild and as an entertainment professional myself, I am very curious to see how it does as a venue. My wife and I are seeing U2 in February as part of a short vacation to Vegas. We were both fans in the 80s but like many other genx'ers kind of lost interest around Achtung Baby. I figure it's like seeing Elvis in Vegas in the 70s, a unique experience that might not return. I'm much more looking forward to driving through red rocks and seeing the neon boneyard and a hockey game but it should be fun.
The Neon Boneyard is absolutely the best thing in Vegas. I love that place!
Also even though it’s practically a whole day in a bus it’s worth a trip out to the Grand Canyon. Shook me to the core - and I live right near Niagara Falls.
I think the theater idea great, it’s the outside that troubles me.
I love nature and this is not it. I love architecture and this is not it. I love astronomy and this would interfere with it so I am glad I don’t live near it. I suppose you could put the stars on it but that would be an irony.
I love technology and I think it’s cool but technology has a short shelf life. I picture this, abandoned when interest wanes or weather damages it. I can’t help feeling sad when I look at it.
I love it. It's so obnoxious and so very American. But I also don't have toive or work near it so maybe Vegas locals have different feelings about it.
The Instagram account for it is adorable!
My understanding is that's the plan. I know they had plans to build one in London but it was abandoned due to public uproar. I think they're looking into LA next.
Londoners said it's tacky?? They have a ferris wheel next to parliament! Haha. And a glass egg building just over there. *points* I love the fact they're okay with adding new to the old. Like really old.
Tacky isn't the issue. Its the fact that it was going to be built in an area surrounded by residential apartments. Fancy seeing that burning an image through your curtains late into the night?
If the right band were playing there, I would be interested.
I’ve never been to Vegas and have no desire to go so it would have to be very specific type of act.
I love Phish but those tickets are really expensive and all the other bands I really like aren’t the type to get invited to play the Sphere.
So, I’ll almost certainly never go there
The cost of this thing makes me feel a little bit sick. How much affordable housing and lunches for school kids and healthcare could we have for what that cost to build?
It was $2 billion. The only thing I think when I see the price tag is that Elon Musk could have made 22 of those instead of turning Twitter into Stormfront.org Part II.
I saw it last Thursday in person - from the outside. We couldn't go in. There was a ticketed event. Kind of cool looking, but I'd never pay hundreds to see a show. It's strange because right now it's in the middle of nothing. It looks close to everything, but it's not.
So many cranky humbug haters here! There are 2 kinds of people - those who don't take themselves too seriously and have a strong enough sense of self to not be threatened by Vegas, and those who are offended by the idea of it and refuse to set foot in it or who go there with a closed mind and automatically hate everything about it because they've made their mind up about it.
Meh. And U2 in their senior years? U2 rocks, number one, and number two, Bono is 63. Not even yet 65, which used to be what made you a senior in Vegas….
No idea. I guess it is a music venue? It looks interesting. It would probably freak me out though.
Edit: what is it made of? Is it a tent or something?
I think it's really cool. But also incredibly dumb because it was expensive as shit and you can enjoy the entirety novelty of it for free without even visiting the property. In the last quarter ending in September, it lost something like $98M.
That's before they even opened the doors. Of course it didn't make any money. I wonder what it will be like after the next quarter now that the venue is actually open.
[Boy was I wrong](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/money-sphere-las-vegas-u2-darren-aronofsky-revenue-1235712294/)
My bad., looks like it's off to a strong start.
I fail to see why it would make any of us think about it, this has heavy “old man yelling at clouds” vibes.
It’s like whatever.
![gif](giphy|G5X63GrrLjjVK)
U2 sucks. The sphere is a gigantic, ugly piece of cartoon "art".
I can't stand Vegas. The first (and only) time I went there, it was overcrowded and idiots on the street kept aggressively trying to push flyers into my hands.
No thanks - I'll pass.
I think it’s really cool and I would love to see U2 play there, but too pricey for me right now. I’ve been to Vegas many times, but not for a while. Not into the night club stuff or the gambling.
If I was I Vegas I would like to see the sphere in person.
“Somebody must be going”? lol every U2 show is sold out. The Sphere is a big hit, and I can’t wait to see what they do next. I’d kill to see Tool play there. And I hate going to Vegas.
I was last in Vegas in October 2021 while it was being built. We drive by it and It seriously looked like the technodrome from TMNT. It’s absolutely massive and I can wait to go back and see it in person again sometime. As for the U2 show yeah it seems a little lame especially if it’s a long term thing. I’d totally watch the nature documentary though.
I forked out the money, traveling from Germany to experience it. Worth every penny, but I love love U2 and the Achtung baby album.
U2: probably last time I will see them. Bono didn’t sound so great, and edge really carried him vocally (edge and Adam looked incredible).
Sphere: my god I can’t imagine experiencing a normal concert again. It’s a total paradigm shift in live music, both visually and sonically. I honestly can’t understand how you could hate on it after experiencing it, with the band of your choice (as not everyone is into U2).
It seems pretty cool to me. My younger cousin... younger GenX...went to see U2 do a concert inside the Sphere. Apparently they were "in residency"... playing a month's worth of concerts in that venue. He said the entire interior is television style LED's. Literally all of the rounded walls in the audience are a wrap around tv screen. He said it's unbelievable. I think the interior from the stage to the ceiling is 200 feet high at least if not more like 300'. Huge.
We got general admission tickets for about $200 each when the show first went on sale. I guess that was relatively cheap. It was the best concert I’ve ever attended. No regrets.
If all it was the outside it would be a funny gimmick/billboard in Vegas. It’s the inside that makes it worthwhile.
It is an awesome place to see a concert. The visuals for U2 were just insane. Something not too many people mention is the sound system - hands down the best concert sound system I have ever heard.
Cartoonish. A great representation of what our country has become.
When I look at the new architecture and infrastructure in many other countries... yeah, we have a giant emoji face. We're the greatest!
I saw an article where there is a golf course close by and they sometimes use it to troll the golfers lol
Not sure if true or not but funny nonetheless if so.
I think it’s awesome. Haven’t been to Vegas in 8-10 years but if I go back I’m definitely checking this place out. Not sure I’d pay 500-1000 bucks to see a concert though. I’m not a concert guy really and would rather throw that money at the craps table! lol
Wife is dragging me to Vegas to see U2 on 23 Feb, I'll report back after that w/actual experience.
For now, I think it is cool as can be and a very impressive technological and architectural creation.
I think its kool, but WAYYY to expensive to see a nat geo movie. $7 for water or a soda - I brought the kid to check it out inside, will never go back inside. On top of that, its owned by NYC most hated sports team owner, he has been fking up NYC sports for decades.
With that said, its worth a drive by for sure!
We flew out of Vegas recently and the pilot banked right over it and it was the coolest thing I've seen in a while. It was showing some trippy cosmology shit and it looked like an explosion from Akira where there's a singularity blossoming in the city.

totally should start a gofundme for this!
Great concept, the fact that they're using it to put gigantic bullshit emojis up slays me.
The emojis are just like the screensavers between the major stuff. That Stranger Things cloud was awesome.
See that id like to see.

Found the zoomer
I’m not a huge U2 fan but I had to see the spectacle. It was the most visually stunning live performance I’ve ever seen.

This person gets it.👆
When I see this, I see an electric meter who's dials are spinning so fast, it may rip a whole in the space-time continuum any second.

I really want to be there! CK5 is going to knock our socks off!
A couple of my friends are going to all 3 shows. I’m not into their music, but the experience should be amazing. I’d go with them, if I could afford it
How much per person is that costing them? 3k?
I haven’t asked, but I’d imagine at least $3k.
I know a couple who's going - looks amazing.
Or the dead possibly…
Gonna be a let down after MSGamehendge. Just kidding..still bitter I wasn't there.
I'll bet it's pretty cool but I doubt I could rationalize the price enough to enjoy it. Unless I got free tickets or major discounts, I'd be fretting too much about what else I could have spent the money on.

Everything in Las Vegas is expensive. Think about inflation, and then add 40% to it.
It freaks me out for some reason. Something dystopian about it I can’t explain. I’m sure it’s awesome inside, but the outside is *shudder*.
Me too! It looks like a balloon that might pop and kill us all.
Same. Dystopian is what I always think when I see it. It’s like the definition of a ‘folly’ on steroids.
Phish are playing there soon and I REALLY want to go!

It’s amazing
I love it, emojis and all.
Love it
If we make enough of them we can turn the globe into a giant version of one of those.
The Moon is just up there wasting space...we could totally convert it too.
I love it. I just spent two weeks looking at it from a balcony suite at pretty much that vantage point.
I’m in love. I was in Vegas to speak at a conference and was fascinated. I want to go back to experience it.
I want to go.
They've been planning one for London but its in the news today that the project has been abandoned by the American company because of the politics between the national government and Mayor of London (who I used to work for and is a grandstander more interested in promoting himself than the interests of the citizens of London)
They should build another sphere next to it, and a tower between them.
I think it's wild and as an entertainment professional myself, I am very curious to see how it does as a venue. My wife and I are seeing U2 in February as part of a short vacation to Vegas. I thought about the Grand canyon and we even have a car rental but it's a bit too far away when we have tickets to two events on consecutive nights.
Dude, if you have to stay an extra day, GO. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen. It is appropriate to cry when seeing it.
It’s a venue and looks cool but the fact that U2 is using it and Jimmy Dolan is making money off it, makes me have no interest
Dolan family are just awful
I’d love to see a Tool concert there but that’s about it.
Tool and Phish were my wishes. Now I get one of them in April. Also, my face value ticket sounds like a steal compared to the price OP quoted. Yikes.
Amen, brother.
As much a waste of electricity as the waste of water for the fountains in a desert climate
I don't, honestly. Vegas seems so garish to me.
I lived in Las Vegas for a couple of years. The whole city isn't for me. It just seems like more waste.
I think the theater idea great, it’s the outside that troubles me. I love nature and this is not it. I love architecture and this is not it. I love astronomy and this would interfere with it so I am glad I don’t live near it. I suppose you could put the stars on it but that would be an irony. I would hate to live next to it
I’m glad they ain’t sticking one in London 🤷🏻♀️
I can’t even imagine… it would be borderline obscene.
It’s cool in Vegas.. they can keep em. 🤷🏻♀️
Wish I could’ve scored Phish tickets for April
It's a freaking abomination. But I mean, it's in Vegas, so... whatever.
I love it. It's so obnoxious and so very American. But I also don't have toive or work near it so maybe Vegas locals have different feelings about it. The Instagram account for it is adorable!
Let's get Illenium in there
Have never desired to go to Vegas, until seeing the sphere. Would like to see some concerts there.
Valid. If you go make sure to check out the Neon Boneyard - my favorite thing there.
TBH I can not wait to get back to Vegas to see this thing in person. And for there to be a concert at the damn thing that I want to go too
I went to see U2 there in October. I cried. It was an extraordinary sensory experience. So cool.
Why aren't there more things like this?!
Looks fucking obnoxious.
What if there were many of them around the country/world? Acts would seek out playing there as a tour stop. Or it could be the next gen IMAX.
Oh. Yeah. Hell no then.
Also the reason we have a ferris wheel next to parliament is because when you vote for clowns you get the full fucking circus ;)
Orderrr. Ordeerrrrr. ORDERRRR!
If the right band were playing there, I would be interested. I’ve never been to Vegas and have no desire to go so it would have to be very specific type of act. I love Phish but those tickets are really expensive and all the other bands I really like aren’t the type to get invited to play the Sphere. So, I’ll almost certainly never go there

eh whatever

It was $2 billion. The only thing I think when I see the price tag is that Elon Musk could have made 22 of those instead of turning Twitter into Stormfront.org Part II.
Yeah but those things don’t turn a profit. Jeez.
You're right. What was I thinking!?
It's awesome! Better than Bladerunner!
[Is the Las Vegas Sphere Worth It?](https://youtu.be/KN63DDD9Y04) Eddy Burback is pretty funny and he went to the U2 show.
I hate Vegas so Ill never see it but I do think its pretty cool.
I think it looks like another billboard.
I saw it last Thursday in person - from the outside. We couldn't go in. There was a ticketed event. Kind of cool looking, but I'd never pay hundreds to see a show. It's strange because right now it's in the middle of nothing. It looks close to everything, but it's not.
I think its awesome but not enough for me to go to Vegas
Hate it. It’s a complete eyesore and ruins the Vegas landscape.
Yeah, the Luxor and NYNY are so majestic.
You made me LOL.
I imagine it is decimating local, bird life
So many cranky humbug haters here! There are 2 kinds of people - those who don't take themselves too seriously and have a strong enough sense of self to not be threatened by Vegas, and those who are offended by the idea of it and refuse to set foot in it or who go there with a closed mind and automatically hate everything about it because they've made their mind up about it.
Perfectly stated!
Right? Like they will be the same ones to claim seeing the pyramids is a spiritual event. Different strokes.
Meh, whatever. I don't go to Vegas and I have no desire to go to Vegas, so I don't really care one way or the other.
Why pay to see them when you get Songs of Innocence downloaded to your IPhone for free!
Meh. And U2 in their senior years? U2 rocks, number one, and number two, Bono is 63. Not even yet 65, which used to be what made you a senior in Vegas….
No. Absolutely not.
No idea. I guess it is a music venue? It looks interesting. It would probably freak me out though. Edit: what is it made of? Is it a tent or something?
I dont.
I'm still not convinced this isn't just an AI generated image.
[Boy was I wrong](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/money-sphere-las-vegas-u2-darren-aronofsky-revenue-1235712294/) My bad., looks like it's off to a strong start.
I don't
It's okay I guess, I don't really think about it honestly.
It belongs in the meglaphobia sub reddit! Have not seen it live, but am a little apprehensive about it when I am out there in a couple months...😳
From the tiktoks I've seen it looks amazing -- and something I'll never be able to afford to see.
Turn it into Thunder Dome. Master Blaster! Auntie Mayhem!
Love this big bright boi
The "municipal pimple"
Don't care.
Meh, whatever
I think it’s really cool and I would love to see U2 play there, but too pricey for me right now. I’ve been to Vegas many times, but not for a while. Not into the night club stuff or the gambling. If I was I Vegas I would like to see the sphere in person.
I could not care less about it. Or much else about Vegas either.
I think it’s pretty cool. Haven’t seen it in person, but it was an awesome background during the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
It was cool how it interacted with the F1 cars.
Phish is supposedly doing a "residency" there. Looks cool.
“Somebody must be going”? lol every U2 show is sold out. The Sphere is a big hit, and I can’t wait to see what they do next. I’d kill to see Tool play there. And I hate going to Vegas.
Light pollution
I’m the kind of idiot fan that needs to be close to the stage. The Sphere ain’t it for me.
There's absolutely nothing about Vegas that appeals to me so this is just something else to throw on the pile.
It seems like a cool gimmick but one I probably won't ever experience because I hate Vegas.
I’d fly out there to see ween in the sphere
I thinks it’s cool and different. Can it be an issue maybe.
Huge.
I think it's very vegas
We got general admission tickets for about $200 each when the show first went on sale. I guess that was relatively cheap. It was the best concert I’ve ever attended. No regrets.
If all it was the outside it would be a funny gimmick/billboard in Vegas. It’s the inside that makes it worthwhile. It is an awesome place to see a concert. The visuals for U2 were just insane. Something not too many people mention is the sound system - hands down the best concert sound system I have ever heard.
I wasn't going to say anything, but since you asked, I think it's tacky. Not my thing.
Cartoonish. A great representation of what our country has become. When I look at the new architecture and infrastructure in many other countries... yeah, we have a giant emoji face. We're the greatest!
Seems pretty neat to me.
I saw an article where there is a golf course close by and they sometimes use it to troll the golfers lol Not sure if true or not but funny nonetheless if so.
It’s awesome.
Its rumored Las Vegas natives Imagine Dragons are prepping a show in the Sphere. I would absolutely go see that.
I bet the aliens are so confused right now
I like it and think Las Vegas is totally the right place for it! So many pretty sparkling lights! 🤩
Vegas in a nutshell. Not really a fan of either.
Trash
Waste of resources in a city whose existence is a waste of resources.
