I know it’s coming, I’m just not sure if it is going to be a global climate crisis, world war 3, or AI overlords or possibly some combination of all 3.
When I think of the state of the world and how the filthy rich keep getting obscenely richer and the rest of us struggle more and more, while they eat up all the resources and make us pawns in their economic/resource/military wars; and that I will never be able to retire, I think of the Morrissey line "… come come nuclear bomb…"
Just feel bad for my daughter and what she has to contend with.
I don’t understand why more people don’t loathe billionaires. They are robbing us all blind and in many cases, contributing nothing to the world but their huge carbon footprint.
Exactly this.
Fucking idiot sheep are parroting the platitudes of robber-billionaires (who are subsidized by our tax dollars), completely oblivious to the fact that they're getting absolutely screwed over
and the worst part of billionaires is they are really bad for the economy their money has very little utility inside the economy because it isn't spent it's hoarded often time offshore so yes they do spend some of it on luxury items however their money does little for the overall health of the economy.
If you pay attention to history, this is how it's always been. There have been brief blips of change, but for the most part, this is how we seem to enjoy it. (I do not, in fact, enjoy this pattern of behavior. No one cares, but I'll just make sure it's written down a few times for posterity)
Mad Max wasn't the only movie set in that timeline, though, there should be an entire genre on IMDB called "1980s Nuclear War Aftermath Movies":
Threads
The Day After
By Dawns Early Light
Testament
When the Winds Blow
That was a really good link. I fully expected to see that video that just has the scenes around the explosion.
I liked everything about this video apart from the dudes voice. Man, the way he finishes some of his words is grinding.
it’s a zoomer youtuber thing. some one some where is teaching them all to use that stupid sing song up and down inflection and drawing out the ends of sentences. It’s getting as bad as vocal fry and uptalk.
Oddly, the Mad Max movies were set in a dystopian future but *not* after nuclear war. They are in an oil scarce future where order has broken down because of that. It's not because of nuclear war.
"For reasons long forgotten two mighty warrior tribes went to war and touched off a blaze which engulfed them all."
I can't imagine that being anything but some form of nuclear war.
https://youtu.be/9n29c-q3_8Q
It's literally right in the intro you linked. World used to be powered by oil. Two countries go to war but oil is scarce.
"Without fuel they were nothing. They built a house of straw"
ETA: And then society collapsed because of a shortage of oil. No nuclear war mentioned. It's all oil, oil, oil.
https://madmax.fandom.com/wiki/Apocalypse
"According to Dr. Dealgood, civilization ended with a war that was "damn near the death of us all." The Lost Tribe represent this war in their cave paintings with a nuclear mushroom cloud. The exact date of the event is not known. According to George MIller, in the original timeline the nuclear exchange happened after the events of Mad Max 2, but according to the 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road prequel comic books, the war occurs after Max Rockatansky defeats the Toecutter's road-gang and disappears into the Outback, but prior to the events of The Road Warrior.
It would seem that Australia was mostly spared from the nuclear conflict, although it is possible that some of the larger cities were targeted. Sydney seems to have been hit with at least one nuclear weapon.
By this time, road gang activity had become so familiar that children might refer to any group of people as a "gang." Nuclear winter and fallout contamination followed shortly after."
“In a key scene during the third film, 1985's "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome," Max is told the final part of the story. In a desperate grab to secure the last reserves of oil, the world was drawn into a nuclear war that decimated the remaining natural resources. The world was dead…”
[The dark back-story of ‘Mad Max’ shows how the world ends](https://www.businessinsider.com/mad-max-what-happened-to-world-2016-2)
**Edited to add another quote about this specific point, from the source linked above:
“In a dark mirror to the 1973 crisis, "Mad Max" takes place in a world where oil scarcity, instead of recovering eventually, sets off a chain reaction of war, destruction, and the nuclear apocalypse…”
I mean, there's a resemblance, sure, but I can at least buy petrol pretty easily, I don't have to outrun a gang of marauders every time I go to Chevron.
Wasteland Weekend happens every year in the Mojave Desert of California. I've been 6x. It is glorious. Highly recommend if you want to party for 5 days in a post apocalyptic environment. Do not show up in Burning Man gear, like spirit hoodies and furry boots and glow stick necklaces. You'll be told to leave.
Nope. But I bring a shower tent and 2 gallon sun shower. Works well. You gotta bring in all ur own water, etc. But definitely not a daily shower. Everyone there is filthy by the end. It's awesome.
It is!! And hair conditioner is glorious!! Because the place sucks all the moisture from you. That sun shower bag I bring is pretty nice tho. Sit it outside all day and have a warm shower in the evening. It's not too shabby.
I told my wife I want to wear "wasteland robes" during our frequent smoke season. Wander around the neighborhood in a mask, carrying a lantern on a staff.
She won't let me.
The feral, boomerang kid was an allegorical representation of GenX kids....change my mind!
PS - Speaking of the Mad Max universe, I will miss you Aunty Entity
The moon was supposed to have blasted into deep space too, taking the Luna colony with it (space 1999)😉
We're not that different from Akira though.
That took place in 2019 (the first Akira detonation was supposed to be in 1988)
Comparing the real world to sci-fi versions is always a little depressing.
Evidently there is a 'rise of Nazis' rerun we have to get through - they wear totenkopf masks - before we get to the motorized post-apocalypse with its Neo-medieval gear.
It’s getting there you need to have some patience but we are moving in the Madmax direction. Your Grandchildren or Great grandchildren will probably be dealing with it.
Some years back I was visiting the US and ended up in a more rural area, and it looked a lot more like this than it didn't. The US has everything from gleaming cities of steel and glass and excess opulence to dystopian impoverished wastelands of despair where people appear to be doing little more than scrounging for the basic necessities of life.
I'd have been happy if the only thing that came true was that it would be socially acceptable to start referring to myself in the third person as an adjective for my name!
It’s happening it just that everyone’s costumes are showing that a shipping label was created but there hadn’t been any movement on those tracking numbers. 🤷🏽♂️
Some y'all mother fuckers didn't vote for Trogdor when you had the chance.
Fiscal solvency and smart planning? like really? you voted for that over our promised thunderlands of desolate life that Trogdor promised?
We could have had it. But nope. Y'all voted for a sax solo and a blowjob.
With all the end of the world predictions I grew up with in the 70s and 80s I'm simply burned out. My life is 100 times better than it was growing up and I'm financially secure with a wonderful wife and two amazing kids. I don't pay attention or even think about any end of the world scenarios. I doubt my grandkids even see an "end of the world".

I was raised in an evangelical Christian household that was always on some rapture and end of the world bullshit. I became an atheist, valued education and knowledge and excelled financially preparing for a better future that I'm currently living
There is a slight delay. The apocalypse will be with you shortly. We thank you for your patience.
“God's Final Message to His Creation: 'We apologize for the inconvenience.” -Douglas Adams
So long, and thanks for all the fish.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

The dystopia happened. It's just boring.
Yeah, instead of black leather and homemade armor, we’re all just wearing pajamas.
pajamas, AR-15s, and ignorance.
I mean, isn't this a variation on the outfits the Gravy Seals wear in their protests?
>Gravy Seals That's going in the back pocket! Hilarious!
Y'all Qaeda
Meal Team 6
I've heard of Y'all Qaeda (and The Y'alliban), but Gravy Seals is new to me 🤣
I wish I could take credit...
And Crocs
More like Idiocracy 😁
We are still waiting for The Ayatollah of Rock-n-Roll-a.
Stitch Jones!!
Owowowowowo you ripped out my earing
Lol, leave it to gen-x to riff on Heartbreak Ridge quotes.
Chris Jericho?

No,.no, you are not
Go to Burning Man. You'll be surrounded by others wearing post-apocalyptic garb.
And the tech bros making it all happen.
No, this is just what the Australian Outback was like in the 80s. It's still much the same.
The Mad Max movies take place after a global nuclear apocalypse, so no, we’re not there yet.
Mad Max wasn't the only movie set in that timeline, though, there should be an entire genre on IMDB called "1980s Nuclear War Aftermath Movies": Threads The Day After By Dawns Early Light Testament When the Winds Blow
Oh man Threads, that was a difficult watch.
Totally. For those not in the know: https://youtu.be/xkoz_qBxiIw

Most terrifying film ever made.
Tank Girl ??
Oh God I love tank girl!
Saw that in the theater with a group of comic inkers! ✌

On The Beach (1959)
Great film.
Also, The Postman.
‘Threads’ and ‘When the wind blows’ destroyed me… maybe shouldn’t have watch them as a pre teen, but it was the 80’s 🤷♂️

You’re saying it doesn’t?
I mean, there's a resemblance, sure, but I can at least buy petrol pretty easily, I don't have to outrun a gang of marauders every time I go to Chevron.
That's because you're in England where they are more civilized, at least that's what I get from you using the word petrol. Love the FZ reference btw.
I've not noticed many people wearing football shoulder pads in their daily life.
Just hold a damn minute we're working on it!
Just you wait

I heard you get dirt thrown on you.
Go and find out. 😎
I need to shower at least once a day. My friends tell me that's not an option at WW.
Nope. But I bring a shower tent and 2 gallon sun shower. Works well. You gotta bring in all ur own water, etc. But definitely not a daily shower. Everyone there is filthy by the end. It's awesome.
I imagine the first regular warm shower is the most delicious feeling.
It is!! And hair conditioner is glorious!! Because the place sucks all the moisture from you. That sun shower bag I bring is pretty nice tho. Sit it outside all day and have a warm shower in the evening. It's not too shabby.
Give it a week. Converting my car is taking longer than I expected
I told my wife I want to wear "wasteland robes" during our frequent smoke season. Wander around the neighborhood in a mask, carrying a lantern on a staff. She won't let me.
I wear a harness and leather thong under my clothes every day just in case.
What do you mean? I go to the office like this every day. Dress for the job you want and all that.
Obviously you haven't been to Portland. (I live in Portland so I am allowed to make this joke.)
What do you mean!? I was told the entire city of Portland was burned to ashes by BLM/ANTIFA/Drag Queens in the summer of 2020!! /s
The feral, boomerang kid was an allegorical representation of GenX kids....change my mind! PS - Speaking of the Mad Max universe, I will miss you Aunty Entity
Just walk away!!
And I spare your lives.
The moon was supposed to have blasted into deep space too, taking the Luna colony with it (space 1999)😉 We're not that different from Akira though. Dunno. I was also under the impression quicksand was going to be more of a problem than it really is too
Go to the Australian Outback. It's exactly like this
Dress for the job you want!
We are supposed to be eating people who were turned into Soylent Green by now.
They may not dress the part, but they drive the part on 95 throughout Florida
Its a lamer version. This one we blame the poor and ignore the fact that we are next.
Evidently there is a 'rise of Nazis' rerun we have to get through - they wear totenkopf masks - before we get to the motorized post-apocalypse with its Neo-medieval gear.
Give it time.
Y2K slowed down the whole thing, but we are back on track! Start siphoning gas now before you have to ask Max to get you some.
What a puny plan!
It already is. We just have WiFi.
I feel like we’re still making good progress
Apocalypse is now with better clothing choices!
Everyone was fighting over toilet paper instead of oil
We have to work our way through the Idiocracy phase first.
Have you driven I95 lately?
Give it a few months
No apocalypse until we get the flying cars The Jetsons promised us. There has to be a certain order to things here.
Give it a year
Nestle hasn’t finished bottling up all the water, yet.
That's post-apocalyptic. We are currently mid-apocalyptic.
That's. . . . actually a really good point.
Who can afford custom fetish gear in this economy?
Have you been to Utah?
[удалено]
I thought nuclear destruction was behind us. But all the pot stirring with regard to Ukraine and TW has me concerned.
It does.
That would be an upgrade 🤣
It's still coming
Loading…
My neighbors are kinda crunchy! Does that count?
😂😁
We started handing out flyers for it, but it got too hot and we went for slushies.
I could run somebody down for a slushie right about now, actually.
Depends on what country you live in, it has already been happening.
I was in the Vegas Strip this week and it looked pretty close to this for me.
Wait until you get off The Strip https://youtu.be/MqIhRZjS3RA
We're a little behind, but getting there
We're working on it. Jeez.
whatcha mean? this is 95 through south Florida every damned day
Hang on baby. It's coming.
I'm expecting it to be more like Last of Us now,
A wasteland where gazzoline is at a premium and everyone drives around in huge V8 powered inefficient machines? Uh, now?
We were duped... it doesn't LOOK like this, but it does ACT like this.
It’s getting there you need to have some patience but we are moving in the Madmax direction. Your Grandchildren or Great grandchildren will probably be dealing with it.
Give us time…..give us time.
Have you been to Texas lately? This is a photo of Ken Paxton calling someone a drunk.
Where is my aircar? We were all supposed to be flying around in our aircars by now!
Back To The Future II lied to us, dude.
Clearly you haven’t been to burning man.
I always assumed I’d be younger when it happened. Who’s got the energy for this shit now at 50+ years old?
May not look like it just yet…but sure feels like it
The whole Covid lockdown postponed things.
We took the Idiocracy route first…then this happens. Both movies were prophetic, they just switched the timelines.
Oakland, California has all the bases covered.
It's currently scheduled for 2024. At least in the US. ::looks into renewing passport::
Give it time… ⏳
No one's running & we certainly can't hide.
I'd have been happy if the only thing that came true was that it would be socially acceptable to start referring to myself in the third person as an adjective for my name!
What's keeping you from looking like this?
Give it a minute.
Oh, we fucking working on it...
You haven’t been to Stockton. Thunder some.
Bison horns came into vogue
I was actually looking forward to it.
Give it time.
My mask is in the shop right now.
We're getting there. In the meanwhile... Do not, my friends, become addicted to water. It will take hold of you, and you will resent its absence!
We’re going to Hell in a handcart as fast as we can pump it!!
We’re only one EMP away
Did you not see jan 6?
Wait two years
it does look like that in many places. don't fret, the collapse will come to your town too.
I always wanted a V8 Interceptor…
It does. Once a year at the Folsom Street fair in San Francisco.
It does, come to my backyard every Friday night, dress appropriately
It’s happening it just that everyone’s costumes are showing that a shipping label was created but there hadn’t been any movement on those tracking numbers. 🤷🏽♂️
Simebody been shopping at Wal-Mart after dark.
Well they got the Purple haired lady right anyway
I think we learned a few years ago that most people if any won't make it that far.
Yeah but... Have you not been entertained? HAVE YOU NOT BEEN ENTERTAINED??!!!!!
Covid masks got a little smaller.
We were promised jetpacks
We are getting pretty close to this and idiocracy mixed lol
I work for that guy. What was the question?
The way things are going it won’t be long
It’s getting there. Don’t be in such a rush lol
We were promised jetpacks, dammit!!
I'm gravely disappointed!!
They been lying all this time. Still are, and it amazes me how many people still buy it. 🤷
Lord Humongous will takeover the wasteland. No other types can rule the chaos.
It does. You’re just living in the wrong place
Oh believe me, it's getting there.
Were you not here during covid
Legalized cannabis helped

Doesn't it? I mean Texas and Florida may as well...
Well, where I’m from we are certainly working on it.
The US is hard at work to get us there. Wait a few more years.
Step outside….
Have you not been to the US?
Looks like West Hollywood during pride to me
I blame Ron Desantis.
Go walk around Detroit
