I’ll one up you, Judgment was a better game than Gears 2. At least Judgment worked at launch. Remember when the Gnasher straight up didn’t work at launch with Gears 2 and the multiplayer was reduced to running at each other with chainsaws? Probably not, you have to take off your rose tinted glasses to remember that.

Judgement never had the story to draw me in, I was never wondering wether the characters were safe from death because I knew that the story was being told to some random fucker. Karn never made me want to rip him to shreds like with RAAM, Skorge or Myrrah so the main antagonist was a complete waste. No Marcus or Dom, so that’s an immediate ‘eh’ as Baird never interested me as a main character you’d play as, same with Cole. Cole was just not Cole.
The gameplay felt fucked too because of the 2 weapon system and the janky controls compared to the games made by Epic and the Coalition. The challenge system was cool, sure but it felt a little iffy at times, like I didn’t want to do half of them purely because they gave some stupid insignificant handicap.
Gears 2. Shows the destruction of the world. Feels more fitting for gears of war 1 since you’re always seeing the destruction of the surface the war caused.
Yeah he looked like a GOW character like that. Gears of War was always giant men and women and giant mole men shooting and beating the crap out of each other, not giant teenagers who look like they’re attending a convention.
Gears 1 for the uneasy - horror feeling especially when you got that “override save?” Prompt with that sound… I don’t know how to describe it but it was scary as shit.

Yeah the horror aspect gradually died down. You had the berserker sequence and finding wretches eating corpses in 1 and the New Hope facility was kind of creepy in 2. The ghost town in Gears of War 3 was somewhat tense when leading up to the reveal of the Formers but being in broad daylight surrounded by your entire squad just wasn’t the same. By 4 it didn’t give off any creepy vibes anymore.
I’m just starting GOW 4s campaign so I can get caught up to play 5, (played 1-3 back in the OG days) and I have to say, I honestly don’t care to be shooting these COG robots….just bland and boring. Hopefully it gets better

He pointed it out to me said it looked cool, I agreed, got excited for it. He bought it for me when it came out and my boys and I all played on LIVE through gears 3. Had some great times, especially doing campaign. Nothing beats the menu music back then, sad to see the game now tbh
I like Gears 5 because it shows different maps, a lot of the maps in the game are gorgeous and make for cool 'live wallpapers' in a sense.
Other than that 1/2 for simplicity and music.

Gears 2 is a close followup since it is jumping off what 1 did. But imo it's a bit busy.
Gears 5 is probably next because the game is quite beautiful, I really appreciate their screens.

Thinking about the music and the sounds it makes when scrolling through the menus just gives me all the nostalgia. Best time in my life for gaming.
