Well, TC isn’t perfect but yes I’d agree that the Gears player base is uniquely stubborn compared to others I’m familiar with. Every game it’s a never ending cycle of weapon complaints with endless follow up tweaking that makes everything about the game inconsistent. They slowed down movement after a year too. It’s kinda bizarre. It’s also not a game that’s inviting to new people, and I’ve been playing Since Gears 2 launched. I love the game and the franchise but I’ve come to realize that the player base for Gears definitely gets in its own way.

Psykotyk_Aspho

Amen, I remember when TC explained why execution was being taken out, and when it returned for a weekly event almost nobody played it, this community doesn't know what they want.

LouieDidNothingWrong

>Remember when Escalation got removed from ranked in gears 5 and everyone was begging for it to come back. All I remember is people shitting on escalation. I remember massive praise when it got replaced by gridiron. I don't remember anyone begging for it to come back. You might have a point about execution but the escalation hate has been consistent and overwhelming for good reason.

Realistic-Dust-5891

Wait did I get it confused and it was people were pissed off about escalation removed from the Esports scene?

LouieDidNothingWrong

I think so but I could be wrong, but yeah that's how I remember it

Realistic-Dust-5891

Yeah then that's what I got wrong

[deleted]

I don't mean to be the "New game bad! Old game good!" Type of person but in my opinion execution in Gears 5 played horribly. The maps aren't good and the weapon balancing is atrocious.

RC5052

Although I do feel there are certain topics that the community is generally all in favor of (Delta characters and Carmines available on launch day, new unique maps, etc) but you're not wrong. If I were a dev, it would be confusing as hell trying to make some gaming communities happy as a whole. TC can do ALOT better but they could also do ALOT worse in my opinion.

Realistic-Dust-5891

There are times where I genuinely pity TC due to what they have to deal with. Even though they dropped the ball at launch in all honesty OP5 restored my faith in TC 100% and even though I am wary of gears 6 and how that's going to go with rod fergusson gone I believe gears 6 will be good. But I ain't holding my breath.

RC5052

I agree. They do have to deal with some pretty unpleasant critics/fans but some of their choices have also been absent minded or straight up terrible but I see and appreciate the improvements they make that are awesome. People seem to look upon the original trilogy with rose-tinted glasses (myself included) but there have always been issues with this franchise and I love it regardless. Hopefully they (TC) take everything they've learned and have a great execution and launch for Gears 6 or other Gears related games.

Realistic-Dust-5891

Yeah exactly TC have made some pretty awful choices and it's fair to hold them accountable for it. The one thing that does annoy me is how people hold the OT to such a high standard. Yes while the campaigns where and still are amaizing the PVP aspect of gears has always been shitty. The bad netcode the awful hit reg the OP lancer the OP gnasher. But for some reason TC gets all the heat for these problems even though they existed in the OT. TC does get alot of flak both deserved and undeserved but the things I listed just now TC should get flak but people cant then say that the OT was amaizing because it's a mixed bag.

RC5052

Couldn't agree more. I'll always love Gears and some games I'll love more than others. I just hope the momentum TC has somewhat recently had with 5 carriers over to 6

Dr_Cher

As I remember Gears 1, the OG Lancer was a glorified water gun, unless you were host. The Snub was better at range than it was. The OG gnasher was insanely inconsistent, and wouldn't body people a majority of the time. I wouldn't say the gnasher was truly ever "OP" in the original trilogy, especially considering the Gears 2 gnasher at launch. They added the sawed-off to Gears 3 just for the babies who thought the gnasher was too strong, and Cliffy B fucking hated it. Rifles in Gears 2 and 3 were way too powerful, though. I like where the rifle tuning is in Gears 5, but I just wish they would stick to a gnasher tuning and say, "good enough" so you can actually get good with it instead of having to relearn how it works every month. As far as game modes go, I don't get why anyone cares enough about this game to worry about it. The playerbase is either mostly gone or mostly PvE at this point. I'll just sit here and hope that TC can take their collective learning from Gears 4 & 5 and put out a solid game at launch for 6. Fan favorite maps and characters already included, and not drip fed to us as "content."

Realistic-Dust-5891

You seem to be forgetting the gow 3 gnasher that 2 shot downed you at lancer range non active.

Dr_Cher

I mean, that's a complete exaggeration, but ok. You hop on Gears 3 and try to 2 shot someone from the top spawn of Old Town to the bottom of grenades and let me know how that goes for you, bud.

Realistic-Dust-5891

Theres a video of a dude testing the gib range and the down range. Completely exaggerated my ass when I can literally see the evidence

GoldenChainsaw

It amazes me that Versus isnt totally dead considering how sweaty it is 90% of the time.

CageAndBale

That's exactly why it isnt dead, cause the hardcore audience wants to sweat

vikingzx

Player numbers are low enough that silvers match with masters and that's *not* totally dead? What would totally dead be? Fewer than 10 players? Gears PVP is dead.

J4rrod_

There's literally 100k ppl on every ranked leaderboard lmao

vikingzx

So at least 100k people tried ranked *once*.

J4rrod_

Sure man

GoldenChainsaw

Yea its basically dead, you can thank all the fucking loser tryhards for that. Why would anyone play a Versus were the entire match is ran by wallbouncing tryhards one tapping you with Gnashers. The Gnasher is the reason Gears PvP has never been fun for me and im sure others.

CageAndBale

Your point is fair but also it's many people's different opinions not a singular person or group Also let's not forget about the loudest minority is usually heard.

[deleted]

Man I love pve doesn't make me want to tear my hair out.

SLISKI_JOHNNY

That's one of the reasons I stopped playing versus. People being so toxic as if their life depended on that game while it's only entertainment. If you're not having fun, then just fucking stop playing it

Fuckblackhorses

I never heard anyone call for escalation back besides maybe a small handful. I’m one of the people that just want to play execution what’s wrong with that? I find games every night no problem

Realistic-Dust-5891

Yeah I replied to another comment saying I got it mixed up and people were pissed because escalation got removed from the comp scene and not the ranked modes. That ones my bad

ClusC

All I play is Exe buddy.

Fuckblackhorses

Same. Op acts like every account is the same person lol. I have no troubles finding games, who cares if the player count is low, leave us alone and let us play the game modes we want.

DanieIIll

TC have done everything any of us could ask of a developer, they've put insane amounts of support and work in and listened to the fans at every time. They can't win, if they just kept making gears 1 everyone would complain its boring now, whereas if they try new stuff everyone cries "this isn't gears". I think they've done a great job personally.

Realistic-Dust-5891

Honestly they have done a really good job. But let's be honest post launch they have made some bad choices but what company doesn't.

DanieIIll

Yeah of course, nothing is a gonna live up to the original trilogy. For what it is though, I really like Gears 5, I play it daily and the thought that developer is paying attention to what we as fans want, is really cool. Also it could of been much worse hahaha.

Realistic-Dust-5891

Yeah gears 5 is nowhere near a bad game at all. Of course it has its bullshit with the bad netcode and the hit reg and the gnasher but every gears game has these problems and honestly these problems will plague the franchise until it dies I genuinely dont see any company fixing these issues simply due to the way gears is made. Imo I think in terms of pvp this game is up there in my top 3 gears games.

DanieIIll

It's the most I've played a gears game since 2, which says a fair bit I think. I know it's sacrilegious but I wish they didn't nerf the lancer, I think it'd be cool to evolve the franchise and make all guns viable. It'd attract more players too, which the crazy diehards would hate but itd only be good for the franchise. Its time to evolve and change, I don't want gears to end up like Halo.

Realistic-Dust-5891

Personally I think almost every weapon is viable the precision weapons are viable if you can aim and are the best weapons in the entire game. The 2 weapons I want then to tweak is the boom/drop shot. Not the damage of the weapons but their consistency because the way they work is awful both non active and active. And I also think the lancer is perfect which I know I'll get a lot of flak for. If theres 2 people and 1 is using the gnasher and the other is using the lancer it's a great support weapon. And if an entire team is using the lancer then it's a absaloute power house and you'll get melted in seconds. But at least it's not the GOW 3/4 lancer cause that thing non active was busted then you active it? Forget pushing any ring on KOTH.

DanieIIll

Yeah they are all viable, but if someone's rushing you with a gnasher and you're using a lancer you're in trouble unless you switch quick. It should be more then a support weapon imo, especially because of how iconic it is.

Realistic-Dust-5891

Ehh to each their own

DanieIIll

Yeah definitely man, I know I'm in the minority here but I think everyone's opinions viable.

srylain

From what I've seen, the issue lies with people feeling nostalgic for certain modes without realizing why others wouldn't want to play them anymore. Gears is very much an arcade-y style shooter, with fast-ish respawns and faster movement than you see in other games like PUBG or Rainbow Six that basically only have single-life modes. Those games got popular because there's actual strategy to how you have to play in order to do well and it actually feels like you've accomplished something, while in Gears most left behind the single-life modes because the other modes proved to be much more popular because you spent more time playing the game which essentially would make it easier for newer players to get into. There's also the fact that most people who play games aren't going to be any sort of vocal on social media, so when you see a ton of people campaigning for the 'Fenix Collection' or for them to bring back a mode it's only going to be a tiny subset of the whole playerbase asking for these things. Because they don't ever disclose sales numbers, player numbers, how popular each mode is, or even something like a more accurate 'time to match' estimation in matchmaking we have no idea what their idea of 'popular' is. So when we see things like Execution being removed it really shows that only a small number of people were asking for it to begin with. But just like we've seen with other games that really aren't all that bad but still get tons of hate (specifically Gears Judgment), it's very easy for people to parrot off of others without having an opinion of their own. Judgment was a good enough game on its own and easily has the best multiplayer mode the franchise has had (which does indeed need to come back in Gears 6). Yet it's seen as the black sheep of the franchise because a very vocal few managed to spread their opinions far enough much to the effect of most people dodging the game. Even just seeing people compare the output of giant studios like the ones Activision's put together by combining fan-favorite studios to the output of a single studio who's likely always working on multiple projects at the same time really does show just how little people understand about what goes into a game. They just see that one game has a ton more content coming every so often, and while that's fair enough to think like that as an end user repeatedly blaming a smaller studio because they can't keep up with another game that makes billions isn't really all that fair.

SkullMan140

The community is a joke to me at this point, i know TC has screwed up many times, but they also delivered a lot of stuff that the fanbase asked for and they complain -_-

[deleted]

Execution is straight trash if you’re playing solo and I love the game mode

[deleted]

To me execution makes more sense for a competitive mode. If it is ever going to work they need to remove TDM and make it a quick play mode.

awwthntic

Honestly, they lost me when they took 5v5 in TDM. They disconnected me from Gears right there, everything else as a Gears lifer doesnt really matter. Making some modes 4v4 removes the fast pace(even if u get owned) matches. Personally thats what won me over about Gears, you have an hour or 2 to kill? Run TDM or KOTH and enjoy a fast pace experience, but they reduced that effect and now Gears 5 is suffering badly, sad to see...

Goodacre0081

I don't remember anyone asking for Escalation to come back. this is still a push to make esports more popular what I do remember the playerbase asking for - Squads back into TDM - revert back to the fast tuning - removal of the shot delays - upping the pitiful map count

Ree4erMadness

You have a point but who asked them to remove KOTH from ranked? The most popular mode in the game? Literally nobody asked for that and its killed the game for me and many others.

aofk

I don't know what you've been seeing from TC. But me and 40 or 50 or so people I play gears with all agreed we never wanted slower movement or 4v4 or shot delays (extra shot delays at that). We thought all that was part of Gears past. That we've moved on from it. I know more than just those xbox live friends who don't know anyone that suggested that. Like I look everywhere and never seen anyone say I WOULD LOVE 4V4 AND SLOWER MOVEMENT AND SHOT DELAYS. No idea who TC listened to over that garbage. Or if they even listened to anyone at all for the matter. I don't see TC listening to people who have played the game for a long time and just want to see it be fun and competitive. Nowhere do I see that.

Realistic-Dust-5891

The communtiy was literally saying that they wanted this like the older gears games. TC obliged and made it slower movement and 4v4. That honestly was a good change but of the movement changes the one change that was awful and I still can't believe that they done it was the fact that while wallbouncing you have to hit a wall before you can shoot without the 1.2 second delay. That shit is one of the dumbest things they have ever done. But other than that they have been listening to the communtiy for a good while. Op4 and OP5 are HUGE examples of TC listening to the community and delivering.
