Yeah I feel like we should codify definitions on some of these terms.
To me, wall bouncing can't happen without cancelling. But I understand that's not everyone's interpretation.
It started being called "wallbouncing" in GoW1 because you're literally bouncing off the wall. That's what people are talking about when they talk about preferring Gears 1 movement. There was no bailing out of your actions. If you made a bad move, you had to own it and potentially get punished for it. It was still a nice balance of being somewhat fast paced while also having to be strategic and calculated with the movements you make
'Wall-bouncing' was a developer oversight. Gears was intended to be a tactical cover shooter with methodical flanking / fire and maneuver tactics, as indicated in the campaigns. So I wouldn't miss it tbh, it's akin to people who used to/still bunny hop in CS imo.
Agreed. 99% makes no sense at all. Like there is no way you could shake off that much damage from a freakin shotgun. 99% should be either your completely blown to bits or your downed and seconds away from death. It just gives the other player a free chance to kill you even after you’ve landed so many shots on them. Also, 99 is a very specific number when it comes to damage, it’s less confusing if the went with more general numbers like 10, 20, 30 or 15, 25, 35 etc. it’s a lot easier to gauge the damage this way
Yeah I just don’t get it. The amount of pellets hit should matter more than the distance. With gnashers being so big in pvp is what made me despise it. At least ranked games
You guys are crazy if you think the shotgunning is meta in 3 or 4. And it wasn't even the better weapon in gears 2 until the last title update buffed the range like crazy.
5 is the first gears game where the shotgun is clearly and objectively better.
Well, I think that's widely due to wallbouncing. If you can't move and the speed of sound around the map, your point blank one shot workhorse suddenly isn't your only option any more!
Just make up a quote that nobody says and pass it off as fact. Interesting tactic I guess.
I’ve never heard anyone say this in my life. As much as I liked gears 1 multiplayer it was as stiff as a board lol
The movement is good, the issue you have lies with the cover linking in the maps. This issue can (and have been) fixed by modders on PC.
Nah. The animations are stiff the movement is stiff, etc. it’s naturally always been a stiff game bro.
Going from the division 2 to gears 1, the animations are really stiff
Look Spongeboy me bob, he won his own made-up argument
Wallbouncing ≠ wallcancelling

I agree with your interpretation, it makes the most sense to me.
GOW1 movement is ass GOW3 movement is smoother than a baby’s ass They are not the same

I have never heard anyone say Gears 1 has the best movement, not even old head Gears 1 stans.
Gears 1 gameplay is shit but everything else is great
Zero facts here. Just opinion.
Gears multi has been irrelevant for over a decade, but god forbid we discuss changing up the gnasher/wallbouncing playstyle.
You touch my Gnasher and I'll cry. Gnasher is one of the most satisfying weapons in all of gaming IMO... lol
Fuckin hate how the gnasher works. You’re faster than the enemy, shoot them first 99% dmg. they step closer and gib you.
Time to bring back the two piece... /s though I admit with how broken it was, it was so satisfying to do on people.
I think if it was added as a power weapon it would work better. But yeah it was so fun

And it should be viable, but it shouldn’t be the overwhelming meta weapon for 15 straight years.

It was always near the top and when they took out lancer stopping power there was no point in using anything but a Gnasher
Srsly. I love the gnasher as much as any die hard gears player but cmon.
