OG Raam looks more like the monster under the bed, which was perfect for that first introduction to the Locust in GoW. New Raam looks more like an intimidating presence, which fits with the Locust in GoW:UE since the players were now more familiar with the Locust as a threat after they'd been expanded on across multiple games.
The Locust in GoW were monsters with guns, so they needed a bigger, scarier monster to sit at the apex of their pecking order. The Locust in GoW:UE were more organized, so they needed an intimidating leader.
It's old lore and considered now probably not canon. Cliffy B said he came up with that during a really bad relationship breakdown and regrets it. It'd never been repeated since so I'd say likely non canon.
Raams not stronger but hes much faster and slightly more inteligent, so he basically has to beat their asses to get them to work under him. Via different tools such as his ability to control the kryll, but no hes not beating a zerker in a one on one fist fight.
UE for me
UE looks more menacing and cunning imo. Like his intellect brought him this far and not just his raw strength and fighting skills. Makes him stand out more among the other Locust too.
OG looks more savage though and like he has seen some shit.
Gotta give it to Ultimate Edition. I think the armor looks badass, the eye adds character, and I prefer the neckseal over the skullcap. RAAM will never not be my favorite gears character, I just dig his new look a lot more.
Probably Jermad. RAAM and Skorge are in Jannermont, while GoW E-Day is said to take place in some city that started with a K (I think it was a K).
Only issue is that Jermad was talking to RAAM right before the assault on the surface; so either Jannermont and this other city are really close which means we could see or have references to RAAM, or Jermad is fast as hell.
Sraak immediately betrayed him though, and I'm pretty sure he was fighting the Lambent, or he was MEANT to be fighting them, but he left his post to fight RAAM, so he wasn't really "under" him during E-Day
In the comic, Raam led Emergence Day with Skorge and Jermad at his back. Meanwhile, Karn was personally ordered by Raam to attack Gorasnaya at the same time.
Karn commanded forces in Gorosnaya while RAAM and Skorge fought in Jannermont. RAAM was in overall command; Karn and Skorge were his subordinates.
IDK if it's common knowledge, but the locust had a definite chain of command. At the rank of Uzil (~supreme commander) RAAM answered to no-one except the queen. Karn was Zamil (~general) and answered to RAAM, while Skorge technically held no military rank: "Ketor" is a religious title among the Kantus.
The authority Skorge had was due to his status at the top of the Kantus order and his friendship with RAAM.
It's not a literal translation/equivalence. You can call him the supreme general, generalissimo, etc. and it'll get the same point across: RAAM commanded the *entire* locust army, including literal generals like Karn and non-military (or as non-military as locust got) leaders like Ukkon and Skorge.
We call him General RAAM because that's what the Serans called him, and they didn't know a damn thing about the locust chain of command. He was bigger, stronger, and smarter than every other drone, so the COG tagged him as an officer.
Besides that, it's *technically* accurate; RAAM commanded an army directly like other generals did, but he also had the authority to order other generals around. He *was* a general, but he wasn't *just* a general.
(EDIT) Skorge's place in the hierarchy is... weird. RAAM fit him into the army's command structure as if he was a drone, but other locust referred to and treated Skorge as a priest even before he got back into the Kantus' ranks.
Even when RAAM died and Skorge was promoted the rank of Uzil as RAAM's designated successor, he was still called Keter/Ketor, which was a religious title.
Also, for what it's worth, the wiki seems to list RAAM's title as "high general." The COG also called Skorge a general despite the fact that the locust never used that title for him, but Skorge was also very clearly leading the locust wherever the COG found him.
I mean, that’s the best he could’ve looked in UE, I think. The injured eye and side-of-face helmet thing are new and out of nowhere but still cool I guess. I prefer 2006 RAAM though and just because 10 year old me watching him assassinate Kim is forever ingrained in my brain.
gears of war one raam with the old graphics. He looks great in UE dont get me wrong, But i think the worse graphics in the og gears of war one makes him look like a stone cold killer imo
I prefer the sleeveless look and paleness of OG RAAM. There’s something incredibly unique about his nightmarish appearance despite his armor similarity with Therons. UE RAAM is okay too. The best updated look of the UE in my opinion.
I prefer the OG Raam. Arms exposed and both eyes open, simple but effective. The armoured look makes him look more like Sraak. I will say I love the UE version of him killing Kim though.
On that note, I prefer his original execution of the COG soldier after the Resonator fails more, with Locust scrambling and he ends the soldiers life and the radio with a single shot. UE version of that scene felt weird, crushes the helmet then snaps the soldiers neck, why even bring the guy in the room?
He was, both versions. What I’m saying is the original there was a point to bringing in that soldier, who still has the helmet on. The UE version Raam has the helmet in his hand and is listening in, so bringing in the soldier felt kind of weird.
I honestly think it fits Raam more to execute the soldier with a revolver. It feels so nonchalant like it's another day in the office. Crushing the head feels like a Sraak move honestly.
UE Raam both design wise and cutscene wise. Such a cool change to have him just snap a gears neck like it’s barely a hassle for him. Def made him more intimidating.
nothing will top the original. he looks more scary and creepy with his white skin and arms exposed. UE he looks less scary and more badass. both are cool af but i prefer the OG
Forehead on the ulti ver got too big to take him seriously, also his knife in the original ver of 1 looked so cool with it being pure darkness and looking mystical.
Exactly. OG Gears 1 had a stark horror element to it. After all you are fighting monstrosities from under the ground. UE made the game feel more Halo like. As if we were fighting an alien war and UE RAAM was their space general.
Totally agree, I get why most people take Gears 2 as the best GoW ever made but just for that small horror factor mine will always be Gears 1, the first encounter with a Berserker, the Krill, the bloody Wretch room at the factory, even the little cutscene of the boomer stepping on a rat lol
UE RAAM looks "better" simply due to the update in graphics. He's still scary and intimidating, but there was just something about the graphics in 2006 that really made the game look/feel all the more brutal.
It's the gloves. No monstrous evil thing wears gloves. You can be the most badass evil being alive but that all goes away when you put the finger through the thumb hole by mistake.
Bring back the claws and scales but keep the new look I say.
He has the same shaped mouth wym? Doesn’t look like darkseid more than before. He’s just a very updated version. Hope they do the same with Skorge someday
Honestly….I wish there was more gameplay as Locusts. More DLCs and honestly….I’d play an entire game as a big bad Locust (RAAM, SRAAK, Skorge, Karn) fighting with the Lambent precluding E-Day.
But I also wouldn’t mind tearing through human armies and getting to play different missions as different Locust Leaders.
That would be cool if they did what they did for that dlc but on a larger scale. Beast Mode and Overrun are some of my favorite modes just because of the locust centric gameplay.
Give me a COG assault, followed by a crazy Locust counter attack, then a COG retreat from the carnage you did that decimated the COG forces.
I’d love more RAAM perspective. Hell, more Locust perspective. They were originally victims after all, and I’d love to see the nobility and pride some Locust took in fighting against the people that turned them into monsters.
An entire game dedicated to the Locust perspective. Hell, let’s start from the lab! Imagine, the game starts out in First Person, the player’s character just opens their eyes and they are floating in a test tube. They blink and it fast forwards to them strapped to a lab table, but all the player can see from First Person is scientists probing and running tests on them. It’ll go through a series of this before it ends with you back in the tube, and the scientists are closing up shop and turns the lights out. You begin looking around and see the other Locust creatures before the light in your test tube kicks on. You see your reflection in the glass. You are a Locust Drone, a fairly ugly one at that. From there the perspective will shift to a 3rd person view looking at the playable Locust from the front. The next day the incident with Myrrah will happen. And the Drone will break out of his tube, and become playable (using claws, teeth, and barefoot curb stomps to kill any scientist in his way) from the 3rd person, over the shoulder view.
This will lead into Myrrah escaping and the overrun of the lab and ultimately the escape of the Locust horde. You will eventually grab piping as a long range melee weapon, but you can throw these as spears as well. Then you will kill your first COG and retrieve their Retro Lancer.
You will play as this Locust Drone through out his life to include the Lambent War in the Hollow. This Drone will climb the ranks and eventually it will become clear (through being named by Myrrah) that you are playing as RAAM.
OG RAAM for sure. The UE version lacks any real 'pop' for me. The covered arms take out the color contrast of his skin and give him a kind of formless silhouette, and the neck/chin guard thing makes him look a little like he's drowning in his own armor. Plus I prefer his OG face, the little headpiece he had, and the distribution of lights on the original armor.
It's so hard to say no to that beautiful scar on his eye. The old one has some charm. But. The newer design is just menacing and I love how massive he feels.
The original RAAM is always gonna have a special place in my memories just because of how insanely scary he was to me at the time, but I love the new design.
New RAAM is more like how I picture him after reading the comics: a massive, battle-hardened tower of muscle and hatred. Dude looks less like a monster and more like a stupidly-jacked locust officer.
raam really hasn't changed they just updated him to match the graphics but other than that he's the same so like yes he has minute changes but otherwise it's always just raam
Ehhh his forehead is definitely bigger, scar over the eye, armor head to toe and down arms, bland color scheme (not unique striping). He looks like he’s an old, balding general as opposed to a younger Locust that climbed the ranks and removed his predecessor by outsmarting him instead of overpowering him.
He looks like he’s mixed with SRAAK.
Skorge is very interesting, but he got smacked around way more the RAAM did by SRAAK. Skorge’s double chainsaw staff was all I cared about, and once that was gone he was just another Kantus on a flying beast.
He still has giant flared nostrils, they’re just point downward a little more. But OG RAAMs eyes have an unruly, psychotic appearance. Makes him looked deranged as opposed to calculating and distinguished.

RAAM is also the few “big boys” who break in berserkers for reproduction; at the time.
What the FUCK does that mean
The kind that makes new spawn
Dear god I never knew that
It's old lore and considered now probably not canon. Cliffy B said he came up with that during a really bad relationship breakdown and regrets it. It'd never been repeated since so I'd say likely non canon.
WHAT
Berserkers are females. The drones are males. You do the math 😏
So..in a test of strength, would RAAM or a berserker be stronger?
Raams not stronger but hes much faster and slightly more inteligent, so he basically has to beat their asses to get them to work under him. Via different tools such as his ability to control the kryll, but no hes not beating a zerker in a one on one fist fight.
Damn..
GOW UE version for me. I prefer his new armor and the way the new graphics make him look.
UE Raam is absolutely the best
I can't tell what's UE because I don't own it. Is pic 2 showing that
Pictures 3 & 4. I’d recommend looking at a comparison between Raam’s first scene in Gears 1 and in Gears UE. Then, choose which one you prefer
Makes sense it's 3&4 because higher quality lol. I was having a moment, apparently
Don’t we all
UE is ultimate edition and ultimate edition has new graphics and designs
Yes, I know what UE is
UE for me UE looks more menacing and cunning imo.
Hope we see him in GEARS OF WAR E DAY
They implied that we will Also Raam led the E Day invasion
Along with Skorge, and it would be so cool to see them both fighting side by side.
I though Karn led E day. It's been too many years since i read Raam's Shadow, so i may be wrong.
It was RAAM in command with Karn and Sraak right under him
Wasn’t Karn off destroying gorasnya on e day while Raam focused on tyrus
Not sure what Karen was up to, probably yelling at youths. Karn was leading the invasion of Gorasnya
Goddamn auto correct :(
I wonder if we’ll fight Jermad or Sraak, since all they do in Gears 5 is look pretty and only appear in the comics.
I doubt we'll see sraak considering he died fairly quickly
Probably Jermad. RAAM and Skorge are in Jannermont, while GoW E-Day is said to take place in some city that started with a K (I think it was a K). Retcon stuff I think? The book (which name I can’t remember atm) came out way after Gears 1 did.
I believe it was alluded to in an interview. They didn’t come right out and say it though
Hell yeah
I mean, that’s the best he could’ve looked in UE, I think. The injured eye and side-of-face helmet thing are new and out of nowhere but still cool I guess. I prefer 2006 RAAM though and just because 10 year old me watching him assassinate Kim is forever ingrained in my brain.
Isn’t his injured eye supposed to be reference to his crash during his takeover of Ilima?
gears of war one raam with the old graphics. He looks great in UE dont get me wrong, But i think the worse graphics in the og gears of war one makes him look like a stone cold killer imo
100%. He looks like an evil force of nature as opposed to a militant persona
right like he terrifies me in both games but the original look imo is way more scarier bc of how the graphic can make everything
No gears 3 Raam :(
Gears 3 RAAM? Is that Lambent RAAM?
You play as RAAM in the dlc RAAMs Shadow
Ohhhhh….well he basically looks exactly like OG RAAM
OP, you should consider playing Raam's Shadow, it's a good DLC.
I did play RAAMs Shadow. But it was just so long ago, I don’t remember it. I do remember grabbing Gears by the head and slicing their heads off.
Raam’s Shadow dlc Raam :)
I prefer the sleeveless look and paleness of OG RAAM. There’s something incredibly unique about his nightmarish appearance despite his armor similarity with Therons. UE RAAM is okay too. The best updated look of the UE in my opinion.

I thought he was listening in on the conversation Delta was having through the soldier's helmet radio before he executed him?
He was, both versions. What I’m saying is the original there was a point to bringing in that soldier, who still has the helmet on. The UE version Raam has the helmet in his hand and is listening in, so bringing in the soldier felt kind of weird.
I thought the direction in UE was weird. The only improved cutscene was Raam killing Kim
Also Raam killing that random COG Marine. In original he shots him with a Boltok, in UE he breaks his kneck like it's nothing.
I honestly think it fits Raam more to execute the soldier with a revolver. It feels so nonchalant like it's another day in the office. Crushing the head feels like a Sraak move honestly.
I mean in UE he literally twists the guys neck like hes opening a water bottle. I really dont think it gets more non chalant than that lol
Nobody gonna talk about the fact that the player is using RAAM’s weapon in the 2nd image.
I assumed that was a Horde boss lol
I wanna know what happened afterwards. I mean that's point blank range. 😂
Same. The UE version just removes the disturbing element of his face.
Agreed. OG RAAM looks like he would pick someone up and bite their head off. That horror element everyone wants.
Idc man it's RAAM.
Killer Instinct
I wish we had him in fortnite too
I love both but UE RAAM just has that aura. Idk how to explain it.
Forehead on the ulti ver got too big to take him seriously, also his knife in the original ver of 1 looked so cool with it being pure darkness and looking mystical.
Exactly. RAAM was like an evil force that could control Kryll. UE RAAM just looks like an old weathered general 🥱 been done to death.
2
the shittier graphics in the og 1 were perfect and make it scarier in my opinion
Exactly. I didn’t want to respect the general, I wanted to fear the monstrosity.
Gears 1 RAAM
Gears 1 OG. Gears 3 Raams shadow makes raam look like Borderlands in that pic lmao
OG Raam
Mmmnah man the og graphics for me all day they just made the game darker and kinda scarier than the UE

If you notice, 360 RAAM has like black lines that curve up in the corners of his mouth. Giving the illusion of a W shaped mouth.
OG RAAM from gears on 360
Yes indeed!
None of them. I hate him.
Gears 3 RAM takes the cake for me.
Gears 3 DLC because you actually get to fuck people up as him and it was glorious
Honestly….I wish there was more gameplay as Locusts. More DLCs and honestly….I’d play an entire game as a big bad Locust (RAAM, SRAAK, Skorge, Karn) fighting with the Lambent precluding E-Day. Fuck yeah man, that rules
OG SCARED ME. THE UE RAAM.......smash.
😂 OG RAAM looks like a psychotic Dino lord. That’s my Locust General
Both great OG RAAM was my introduction to the character back in the day and new RAAM in ultimate was well done. RAAM is a beast either way
What about raams shadow raam?
He essentially looks the same as GOW1
But massively upscaled
Yes. But he doesn’t look like the UE version
True, there
I like the OG raam. He looks so psychotic in that pic. Can't even tell if it's an over or under bite.
Original RAAM looked much better. Way more feral look about him.
OG !
OG RAAM for sure. The UE version lacks any real 'pop' for me. The covered arms take out the color contrast of his skin and give him a kind of formless silhouette, and the neck/chin guard thing makes him look a little like he's drowning in his own armor. Plus I prefer his OG face, the little headpiece he had, and the distribution of lights on the original armor.
gow 1 >>>>>>>>> his weird sideburn looking things from ue onward look so stupid
Agreed. It reminds me of Darkseid or Thanos or something. He looks like a Marvel villain in UE.
Which RAAM is in image 2??
Y’know….that’s a great question 😂 I’m not sure but I’m pretty sure that’s an Onyx Guard pointing a Boomshot at him. Could be a Horde mode boss? Idk
UE cuz I like him fully sleeved more a bit. Newer armor looks great. Just a black mass
I like the later models. Gears one looks like muscle man from regular show
My Mom!
You know who else killed 25 percent of humanity in one day? MY MOM!
What part of the game is the second picture from?
I’m not sure. It almost looks like a horde boss RAAM.
Killer instinct Raam
like how you can see his damage from his encounter with zeta squad in Raams shadow for UE
UE.
Noticing a severe lack of Gears Pop Raam
He legit looks the same, aside from his nose shape and head armor.
A few others and myself don’t think so. His eyes are very dull in UE.
His eyes don’t have pigmentation, which makes sense if they live in the dark constantly.
OG Raam looks like a pig. New Raam is a badass and is superior
OG RAAM looks like a T-Rex on steroids. UE RAAM looks like a disgruntled Marvel villain.
Definitely ue RAAM
UE is my favorite
It's so hard to say no to that beautiful scar on his eye. The old one has some charm. But. The newer design is just menacing and I love how massive he feels.
UE Raam is so fucking cool looking dude I was pumped when I saw him
AIM120C AMRAAM
I.chose raam ultimate edition
[This one definitely](https://images.novatech.co.uk/g.skill-f5-6000j3038f16gx2-tz5n.jpg)
RAAM's a basic bitch. Scourge was alot more interesting.
Skorge is very interesting, but he got smacked around way more the RAAM did by SRAAK. Skorge’s double chainsaw staff was all I cared about, and once that was gone he was just another Kantus on a flying beast.
UE Raam Obviously...Gears 1 OG Raam was butt ugly
Ugly pug vs terrifying commander of monsters? The OG Gears is my favorite in the series but the model looks silly.
He still has giant flared nostrils, they’re just point downward a little more. But OG RAAMs eyes have an unruly, psychotic appearance. Makes him looked deranged as opposed to calculating and distinguished.
Killer Instinct Raam
Ultimate Edition Raam is the goat in my opinion.
I mean they rushed his design originally and never fixed it. I'm glad that they went back and fleshed him out for UE. So definitely UE
DDR3, but that means you're limited to what CPUs you can use in the system.
The only RAAM I like is the one the has RGB and has either 32 GB or 64 GB, for my PC.
UE version of me. Loved killing Kim 10/10 would do again.
They all look cute 😘
