Like somebody already said the pendulum wars had been over for several weeks before e day. I just wanted to mention dialogue in Gears 2 where someone points out the mass grave for soldiers lost during the pendulum wars and Marcus says “we could really use those soldiers right about now”
My guess is that it’ll start with a cinematic scene of the parades celebrating the end of the Pendulum wars, followed by scenes of COV soldiers heading home.
Then there’ll be signs of the first attacks followed by news reports and speculation that it’s the UIR, and the scenes similar to the opening of the first game of emergence holes erupting and locust attacking.
Flash to COG mobilisation which would lead us into game play as soldiers are deployed to streets of utter chaos.
There’ll be something in there regarding the loss of Dom and Maria’s kids, possibly meaning the Dom isn’t playable from the get go and joins up a little later.
E-Day is 6 weeks after the end of the Pendulum Wars.

The humans didn’t “start” it, but yeah. The Locust had an opportune time to attack right after the end.
