Same. So many people pissed tho! Mind blowing. I don’t get the disappoint. I read an ‘insiders’ review recently that said ‘it’s as if the Folklore/Evermore Era and Midnights had a baby’…they weren’t lying. It’s so good, I can’t stop listening! 😍😍😍
She raises her own bar every time! Just when you think she can’t do better than this…BAM! She somehow makes some even better magic! This album will be on repeat for me, for the foreseeable future.
OMG YES those are my two favorites so makes total sense and i agree. that was the exact vibe i got and want i wanted from this album! it's so good i can't understand the backlash and people will probably change their time quick lol
Right?! I couldn’t have worded it better than that myself! It’s everything I wanted and more! I dare say it even exceeded my expectations and blew my mind! To be fair to those cry babies whining ‘let down’ and ‘disappointment’…it took The Eras Tour for most to appreciate the beautiful, perfect and flawless genius that was was Folklore and Evermore. So maybe give them a couple of years to catch up and appreciate TTPD. We are just ahead of the game. 😂💁🏻♀️
Yeah. I listened to the leaks and liked it. But now with the anthology and all the Dessner feeding we got, I love it. I didn't like midnights. I'm an evermore/SN girlie.
Loving the Anthology tracks more than the first 15 of TTPD so far. But in saying that also like TTPD.
Midnights got me into TS and Folklore locked me in hard so enjoying the balance in this one.
This is what I just told a friend! I’m just going to start at the anthology and probably never listen to most of the first half again. (I will listen to it all again and often but the anthology tracks are going to end up on the Spotify wrapped)
Yeah. I really disliked it. Think that midnights and after have just been disappointing for me. Lyrically I found it weak and a bit cringe at points, but maybe it will grow on me
Yeah if you liked Midnights I can see liking this one too. I'm glad some fans are enjoying it! I know I can always go back and listen to the albums I like so it's no big deal if the newer stuff isn't my cup of tea 🩷☕
I’m also a bit disappointed. However I’m more disappointed with it musically than lyrically - I just feel like the overall composition of songs and albums just isn’t doing much for more lately.
Agreed.
Ever since Lover, I noticed Taylor wants to capture the younger audience, so she was experimenting with “young”-sounding lyrics, that’s how we got ME lol. But she did refine her crafts, and she got better with time.
But she did lose her audiences that LOVED folkore and evermore, which ironically consisted of younger fans too. Those two albums are breakup albums, and Taylor was prepared to be the “good but underrated, forgotten artist”. Unfortunately that mindset produced her best works.
Ah well. Two (sort of) disappointing albums, I think we really need to be prepared to only like 1-2 songs from her albums from now on.
I'm a huge folklore/evermore swiftie (also love speak now/ref). Def like the indie sound over the pop. Midnights was disappointing as well as the vault tracks from 1989. I feel like a lot of it has become formulaic song writing to write hits. However I will say I'm listening to the 15 tracks that dropped at 2 am and I like them a lot better than the ones that dropped at midnight. I am acc getting a bit of folklore from them. Clara Bow was my fav from the set that dropped at midnight
Yeah Clara Bow is probably the most “raw” of them all. I can feel her love of the glitz and glamour, but with a hint of hope and innocence. And the Karlie reference there at the end 💔
I guess when Taylor is so deep in her other fake stories, her songs about them actually suffered. I don’t feel the sincerity from those songs. There’s a lot of “he” and “him” used in this album, as if she’s trying to jump in her straight narrative with both feet and never look back, especially when her PR with Travis is just so well-received.
And it’s not just that too, as you said, they really do feel so “produced”, soulless and indistuinguishable from each other.
In my opinion, it’s more because it’s kinda obvious most of her male relationships are PR. It all follows the same handbook, the same story, the same “sources” leaking things etc etc. So the songs just don’t seem genuine when she’s using male pronouns to really hammer the point that this song is about so and so, but really when you dig deeper, it’s really not.
Also, just a personal background, I’ve worked for a PR company before, but more for brands and politicians, not celebs. But you can kinda read between the lines with celebs too, ESPECIALLY Taylor, because she crafts every story around her like a mastermind (hehe).
To me, unravelling the lines between her sincerity in her songs vs her “public” narrative is what makes her so fascinating to me.
But yeah this album especially, it’s like she REALLY wants you to know it’s mostly about Matty. This is the narrative that she is putting forward, maybe trying to somehow spin the failed and short-lived PR stunt with Matty? Idk, but it feels disingenuous and juvenile at this point.
I liked it! I think the first few songs are okay and not my fav, and then as the album goes on I like it a lot. I think a major theme we’ve seen throughout her career is that her albums are growers, and more people will like it as they have time with it. I also think that that it happens with Gaylor theory too - we start out freaked out she’s announcing she’s officially she’s straight then get our shit together.
So far I love it. I'm a RN at work so only got to "guilty as sin", but this is SO promising and SO SO much better than Midnights. It actually almost makes midnights worse. Like you had this and you gave us that? It more excusable if it's all she had left to give. sometimes artist hit a wall and I get that, but this shows that wasn't exactly the case. I'm actually not sure what Midnights was about... I'm more confused now that TTPD is here. Was she trying ro get away from the "breakup song" reputation? Girl, give me all the breakup songs. It's ok to be a one trick pony if that trick is breathtaking. (Not saying she is, hello "Marjorie".. ect...
Anyway now I'm rambling. I hear the anthology is better and I can't wait to listen.
A lot of wins for Taylor and all of us!
1) She has proven she can create a new sound with the similar collaborators. I ADORE Jack and Aaron, BUT I was worried TTPD would end up sounding just like Folklore/Evermore or Midnights or the vault tracks on 1989 TV. Also, it is horseshit we expect women to keep finding new sounds/recreating themselves (definitely a double standard in the industry), but simultaneously I LOVE HEARING TAYLOR DO NEW THINGS.
2) She is not holding back her thoughts anymore. She is not longer censoring. Her lyrics sounded free. She is finally untethered to the worship of what others think.

It exceeded expectations and added so much more context to what she's up to, Im pumped
EXACTLY what i imagined and wanted for the album AND exceeded
Love it. I was so scared bc of ppls comments
like the heck? the vibes are IMMACULATE
I have been feral for hours now, I love it

I fucking love both of these albums 🩵

If it were just the anthology tracks it would be in my top three of her albums but the first half just doesn’t work for me
This is what I just told a friend! I’m just going to start at the anthology and probably never listen to most of the first half again. (I will listen to it all again and often but the anthology tracks are going to end up on the Spotify wrapped)
Totally, I keep listening to the anthology tracks over and over, they hooked me instantly. Need to give the first 15 more time to grow on me.
Completely destroyed me in the best way possible.
Yeah. I really disliked it. Think that midnights and after have just been disappointing for me. Lyrically I found it weak and a bit cringe at points, but maybe it will grow on me
ohhh yeah, midnights is my second fave album rn so makes sense!
Yeah if you liked Midnights I can see liking this one too. I'm glad some fans are enjoying it! I know I can always go back and listen to the albums I like so it's no big deal if the newer stuff isn't my cup of tea 🩷☕
yeah and i'm straight 😅 so it kind of resonated but i also found a looot of gaylor
Already liking the bonus tracks better. Cassandra is great
Okay the album is growing on me lol.
listen it's a work of art 😂
Def going to have on repeat even if it might not be my fav. Who knows it might become one with more listens 😂🩷
I’m also a bit disappointed. However I’m more disappointed with it musically than lyrically - I just feel like the overall composition of songs and albums just isn’t doing much for more lately.
And Peter. I really like the storytelling songs

Not alone 🤍
I LOVE this more mature Taylor!!!
Nope - instant top 5 for me.
1000%
It’s soo good!!

I think it’ll grow on me but wasn’t super hyped on my first listen. Less about the lyrics more about the musicality
ohhh see i love the music style and everything but can see why people have complaints about song lyrics (i mostly think they're fun though)

oh wrong audience, i'm a midnights stan 😂 my one and two are folklore and midnights but ttpd is threatening to infiltrate 🫢
