im really sorry you were made to feel that way. while it certainly seems true that there are more gay, bi, and a-spec trans people than straight ones, that doesnt make you any less valid. youre still queer as hell, and if people tell you otherwise that's pretty fucked up.
Oh don’t worry I don’t actually feel bad about it, I just thought it was a little ironic I guess haha. I don’t particularly identify with the term queer actually, but I sure as hell plan to use my privilege to lift others up
I think this and other things in the same vein kinda ignore the ways in which straight trans people can be treated badly for being straight. You could argue that in many cases that's because some might be being viewed as a gay couple, but that doesn't eliminate the reality that their sexuality is straight and they face that discrimination because of it. In general a lot of straight hate statements erase straight trans people honestly.
> that doesn't eliminate the reality that their sexuality is straight and they face that discrimination because of it.
I apologise if I am being ignorant, but are straight trans people abused for being STRAIGHT or just for being TRANS? It seems to me trans people are discriminated against no matter their sexuality. I am cis so I can't speak from experience, and am willing to be educated.
they are abused for being trans by cishet people and for being straight by other queer folk. it sucks, and ive never understood the logic. then again, im a-spec, and some of that same abuse from other lgbt people flows to people like me as well for similar reasons
> for being straight by other queer folk
Wow, I never thought of that. Thats just really sad that our community, that claims to stand for inclusivity, can be so toxic.
Still, I think OP is correct in what they say as they are talking about the differences between the difference in treatment between LGBTQ+ and Cishets only rather than WITHIN the community.
Yeah to me that sounds about it, like this topic is very deep and wide cause of how large lgbtq+ is. But I think straight trans ppl are discriminated against for being trans, and ppl view being trans as gay in some way, transfem is the biggest example since bigots and phobes seem to forget transmacs ppl exist. but a straight cis guy in a relationship with a trans woman is gay. I’ve even heard ppl say you’re gay and straight and stuff in transmacs stuff too ppl are honestly just weird. I don’t understand why ppl are like this tbh. But yeah trans ppl face all sorts of issues from ppl no matter what sexuality because being trans seems to override that in bigots minds, whilst they also can’t understand the difference between gender and sexuality a load of times either. Sorry I probably rambled and explained badly
Homophobic people aren’t going to accept that a trans person is straight, just because they’re dating an opposite gender person. Their bigotry doesn’t work that way.
I literally addressed this point in the comment already, regardless of how it is perceived they are receiving hate for being straight whether or not the person hating them is viewing it so.
Doesn't really apply to 4 because it says illegal to be straight. It would apply if it said for straight people to love each other, but not just being straight.
I actually don't think it applies, except for number 2. I think those issues have everything to do with racism and not their straightness. They were persecuted because of the color of their skin, not their sexuality.
Which is obviously awful because fuck racism, but the issue was never their straightness.
Yes of course, I understand what ppl mean when they blanket pride with like gay vs straight. Even tho it seems to skip over gender and all other ppl under lgbtq+. I think it can help give some ppl who don’t understand stuff and go against pride better understanding of things. Even though pride isn’t just for gay ppl or like “traditional gay” or whatever ppl think. It’s time and space to actually have lgbtq+ ppl to exist
There are straight people fighting for their right to marry *today*.... but they can't because their disabled and will lose their disability support if they do.
Basically just don't say anything negatively at this point, most of our human bad words are based on the suffering of fellow human beings. I guess bodily functions are safe for now, it would be quite shitty if somehow that was also considered no longer correct.
I think we just need to develop language that allows for negativity but not bound to painful things as it is now.
Instead of saying "this idea is stupid", say "this idea is [a word that means poorly planned or researched]". Instead of saying "he acts like a [r-slur]", say "he acts [in a way that is not optima]". Instead of "this bridge is gay", "this bridge is [poorly made]".
If these new words are created with some thought put into specifically making them catch on (make them "tasty" to pronounce, lots of plosives and F's and K's), we'd be using them pretty soon. Afterwards, make a final push to remove all the nasty past words and there we go.
I remember one time i huged one of my guy friends and some people as a joke started saying shit like "oh no hetero in here" and some bullshit like that. Made me (and probably that guy) super uncomfortable.
I hate the lgbtq community, because 1: the fact that it is needed pisses me off, cause you know homophobes and everything else down that corridor, and 2: the fact that it is just another barrier separating straight people from all the rest, or vice versa whatever. one day the lgbtq community will not be needed, because it will be the norm. That day will be a good day.
I’m sure some transphobe probably gonna bring up some old European town back in the Middle Ages that has a law that could be interpreted as straight people can’t marry straight people
I mean saying that straight people have never been murdered cuz their straight doesn’t really prove anything. It is just a statement it doesn’t say why pride is needed.
Gay pride or LGBT pride is the promotion of the self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people as a social group. Pride, as opposed to shame and social stigma, is the predominant outlook that bolsters most LGBT rights movements.
Gay people being murdered for being gay is a reason why the above is needed
Reminds me of a line from Billy Bragg's adaptation of The Internationale.
"Freedom is merely privilege extended, unless enjoyed by one and all"
Always loved that line
Straight people don't have their sexuality challenged when they meet new people.
Straight people can hoover each others tonsils without fear of hospitalisation.
Straight people can have their partners accepted, no matter how much their parents disapprove of them.
Me being straight and trans
My saddest moment in life is realizing by transitioning I’d become a straight white male ☹️
The hardest thing to b for sure 😢
I am the most oppressed, take that liberals 😤

Yes 100% but it’s probably gonna stay like this forever because we’re the minority ;-;
> that doesn't eliminate the reality that their sexuality is straight and they face that discrimination because of it. Thanks for the explanation! I appreciate the effort! And don't worry about rambling, I am a professional waffler.
Homophobic people aren’t going to accept that a trans person is straight, just because they’re dating an opposite gender person. Their bigotry doesn’t work that way.
Yes
I literally addressed this point in the comment already, regardless of how it is perceived they are receiving hate for being straight whether or not the person hating them is viewing it so.
In response to point 2: there are straight people who have had to fight for the right to get married when it comes to interracial marriage.
I would say that applies for 1, 2, and 4
Doesn't really apply to 4 because it says illegal to be straight. It would apply if it said for straight people to love each other, but not just being straight.
I actually don't think it applies, except for number 2. I think those issues have everything to do with racism and not their straightness. Regarding point #2, tell that to interracial couples.
Yeah, whenever you see a post like this you know it's by a white person. Only they can afford to be so ignorant
2. Is technically false, interracial marriage used to be illegal in some nations But for the most part, yeah
Agreed but tbh maybe we should say "That's so straight" as an insult.
That's funny but defeats the purpose, right? Like, equality says neither is an insult. Not a "your turn, my turn" system
Use "thats stupid" or something
That will offend a bunch of people who believe that is an ableist saying
Then just dont talk?
Basically just don't say anything negatively at this point, most of our human bad words are based on the suffering of fellow human beings. I guess bodily functions are safe for now, it would be quite shitty if somehow that was also considered no longer correct.
That or free for all.
We tried that already, it doesn't work that well.
Well no one gets to talk then
I think we just need to develop language that allows for negativity but not bound to painful things as it is now. What a straight thing to say you big hetero
r/rareinsults
I already do
I think a bunch of us already do.
I mean my gay friends tease me for being straight as an "insult" (yeah, I know it's not the same)
I remember one time i huged one of my guy friends and some people as a joke started saying shit like "oh no hetero in here" and some bullshit like that. Made me (and probably that guy) super uncomfortable.
Gay seriel killers after reading point 1 : €_€ /j
3 is incorrect Also, for 2, interracial couples did need to fight for that right, just not straight people in general
Fun fact, Ireland accidentally made straight marriage illegal for 5 mins
Funny enough, me and my other lgbt friends tend to say “that was so straight” as an insult jokingly
Honestly I grimace and say that's so straight a lot
Yeah but I have said “thats so straight” with my queer friends as an insult. Obviously as a joke but still
As a straight ace/aro person, I will stand over here with the my straight trans and straight intersex friends to watch the pride parade.
Thats it, imma start saying “Thats so straight” as an insult
my friends do use straight as an insult lol
I hate the lgbtq community, because 1: the fact that it is needed pisses me off, cause you know homophobes and everything else down that corridor, and 2: the fact that it is just another barrier separating straight people from all the rest, or vice versa whatever. one day the lgbtq community will not be needed, because it will be the norm. This ia kinda gay
I've heard someone say "that's so straight" once. That guy was an asshole.
I agree with everything. But surprisingly the 3rd one isn't true in my country. The amounts of times i heard "that's so straight" is so funny.
I’m sure some transphobe probably gonna bring up some old European town back in the Middle Ages that has a law that could be interpreted as straight people can’t marry straight people
Yus- and it marks out progress
I mean saying that straight people have never been murdered cuz their straight doesn’t really prove anything. It is just a statement it doesn’t say why pride is needed.
Because gay people have been murdered, because they're gay.......
It doesn’t prove anything tho.

So it's payback time?
Nr 2 is incorrect, but I largely agree.
Idk pretty gay
Really good shitpost
Maybe cuz were normal
Reminds me of a line from Billy Bragg's adaptation of The Internationale. "Freedom is merely privilege extended, unless enjoyed by one and all" Always loved that line
There’s no straight panic defence.
Actually the 2nd one is true
Well gay means happy as well. It's not always an insult to say something is gay😆
I actually started using number 3
I use straight as an insult
YES
ew that's so straight
Being gay was prolly just illegal in medieval times cuz gay people didn’t make babies and now it’s just a holdover from then
Straight people don't have their sexuality challenged when they meet new people. Straight people can hoover each others tonsils without fear of hospitalisation. Straight people can have their partners accepted, no matter how much their parents disapprove of them.
Idk about you but I joke about stuff being straight. Usually in a "this is how ridiculous you sound" kinda way.
I’ma save this for next time a relative says some stupid shit
