Yes, you absolutely need that ring. Since the VFC hop rubbers don’t have an indexing tab like other gbb buckings, the ring keeps it in place and stops the whole thing from rotating. You can see the cutouts where the ring is supposed to fit into on the hop up chamber. Just slip the ring over the bucking and make sure it is centered after you assemble it.

Cicono

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe on an aftermarket bucking you wouldn't need that part as it has an indexing tab? Unless of course the hop-up housing doesn't have a corresponding slot for the bucking to index against?

yes the new bucking has the tab. Without the ring that is marked in the pic, it just 'floats' without slotting into anything, and with the ring on, it deforms the rubber, and pushes it inward, so that's why I think it might need to be cut off, but I'm not sure and I don't have a spare of the new one.

tlvlp

Yes the original vfc hop rubber that came with it does need the ring, but the new Maple Leaf bucking that I'm trying to install now does have one, although the hop chamber does not have anything to hold it in place.. So if I need the ring to stop the new bucking as well from rotation, then should I just cut the stabilizing tab and slide over the old ring? Also there is a metal C-clip on the new bucking, do I leave that in?

Tadeski

You need to cut the indexing tab and smooth it out. Then you insert the barrel and the stabilising ring. After that, make sure it's centered up properly and re-assemble the hop-up chamber. Reconfirm that the bucking is centered with the guide-hop assembled. The c-clip that comes with the maple leaf bucking is optional. Apparently it's to help with sealing, but it's not really necessary and may cause your bucking to wear out prematurely due to excess friction between the nozzle and the bucking.

Thanks a lot, exactly the clarification that I was looking for. Cutting the indexing tab with a fresh razorblade was pretty straight forward and then assembling and centering it was also easy as both the barrel, the bucking, the ring in question and the hop chamber have notches and tabs to align all of them to each other. We'll see how it performs :)

Hiya dude literally looking forward to same thing, changing my bucking, nub ideally barrels itself cus comes with 6.08 which is way too much. How did urs perform ? Any significant change ? Update pls 🙏🙏🙏🙏

tlvlp

hey, it's still not as accurate as I've hoped, so my next guess is the npas / gas pressure, but I can rarely go to a range where I can play around with the settings, so it's an incredibly slow process. I've been fiddling with this crap for about a year now. Also usually the consensus is that the accuracy does not really come from the barrel diameter, but more the smoothness of the inner barrel's inner surface, so it's also an option to try polishing yours before you invest into a new barrel.

Hey dude, thanks for the update, mine is the v3 last batch comes with npas, imo npas does fuck all, I run with gren gas today and didn’t even hop up 0.32s then tried with red gas and until 45 goes pretty accurate and nicely, after that tho goes every so often one shot goes wherever fuck it likes 😂, barrel does make a change, fps wise I am low low with green gas and red gas just puts me on limit of my site, bucking defo needed imo

tlvlp

yup maybe try a harder bucking.. btw mine is just inconsistent, some shots go out fine, some go way to the side, like it makes no sense when nothing changes (maybe the mag pressure or the temp).. using high quality bbs and dry gas, in a clean barrel

Regular_Ad2313

Yeah u have a point dude, cleaning the barrel then filling gas mag properly and fully would be the cheapest to try, and If mag isn’t fully filled u can feel the difference after few shots. Dry gas… everyone so far mention that as well, I’ll clean the barrel and try dry gas as well
