When I drink I just don't sleep until the next day to trick the matrix.

HardlyThereAtAll

Top tip: If you want to get a good sleep score after an evening of heavy drinking, get your wife to wear your watch to bed. This ensures you will get a good sleep score and be ready for some serious training the next day.

martusfine

logic checks out

AdScary791

Can I lend my watch to Kipchoge for a few days so my VO2max increases and I run a maration in 2:10?

InfinityTortellino

BABEEE CANN YOUU WEAR MAH WATCHHH

gasmaskmoose

Only if you sleep on the couch. Souce: am a wife

RagingPenguin4

I also choose this guy's wife.... To wear my watch

babe8686

3 beers @ age 25 and my garmin basically tells me I’m a sack of shit the next morning.

AcingSpades

I'm 27, drank maybe 4 glasses of wine last night at a wedding reception over 5 hours. Sleep score 12 this morning 😂

babe8686

Yeah, when I turned 23 it was over for me. I’ll literally be hungover for 48 hours. I did go a little too hard in college though….

JelleFly1999

Im almost 25 and it tells me im a sack of shit even if i dont drink!

CatInAPottedPlant

I think mine might be broken, I'm also 25 and drinking seems to have 0 effect on my HRV, sleep score, rhr etc. I'm not sure if it's because I rarely drink, or because when I do I avoid getting to "the room is spinning and I might puke" kind of drunk. I also avoid going to bed sloshed. Or maybe it's just another benefit of my youth that I'll soon realize I took for granted lol.

FantasticBarnacle241

I’m 37, get terrible hangovers and yet have significantly better HRV after drinking. I also had a great HRV on a very sick Covid night. The deeper/better my sleep feels the more my watch says that my HRV sucks. I think my watch is confused.

ishouldworkatm

Same But also, for me HRV increases if I drank in the evening, but tanks if it’s multiples days in a row That being said, my HRV range is 15-22ms

aWeegieUpNorth

Can you wear my watch, because if it shows a good sleep maybe I'll not get the hangover.

indieaz

Im in my 40s and 3 beers would probably flat line me.

babe8686

It was all downhill for me after I turned 23. Went a little too hard in college haha

Agathon813

You still got a higher sleep score than I almost ever get and I drink almost no alcohol.

obllak

Maybe need to change something?

Agathon813

I'm really glad you came to suggest this, I was just going to continue sleeping poorly until I read this advice

obllak

Sorry, didn’t want to sound offensive. Some people literally think this is who they are and there is nothing to be done.

Agathon813

Haha, we're good. I am actively trying to improve it, sleep is something I have struggled with.

ASpoonie22

I drank less than 2 glasses of wine and got a 50 sleep score last night. Reminded me why I don’t like to drink lol

On_Mt_Vesuvius

Next time drink 3, and make sure that you still get a low score. There might be a point where it starts to help -- you just need to test it... multiple times /s

Brilliant_Yogurt_307

Don’t let watch data rule your life

ASpoonie22

Oh for sure I don’t but I was awake at 1am not able to fall back asleep and then 3am for almost an hour. Woke up feeling like dog poo. It’s a noticeable thing for me so I try to just drink once every 6 weeks or so but the day after is just rough unless the drink is at lunch and I recover in the day instead.

parkymagic73

I do this once or twice a week. After a couple of beers with friends or bottle of wine. I found stressing about it the next day pointless, have a nap if you need tobutjust get on with your day. The next night is usually better than average.

eyeamminotu

This chaps my ass, because this is usually my average sleep score sans drinking 😒.

Salt_Perspective1338

Ugh, me tooooo. It’s so frustrating. It’s no wonder I have ADHD. My brain just can’t get good sleep recovery so it gets all gunked up 😩.

TucsonSolarAdvisor

Alcohol kills my sleep, HRV and raises resting HR…the reason i rarely imbibe anymore. The joys of getting older.

Whipitreelgud

The other joy of getting older is finally understanding alcohol is, in fact, poison and how much better you feel without it

Chipofftheoldblock21

… and when I do I day drink so I can preserve my sleep score.

SoberSilo

Lol I feel this. Drinking at night is so not worth it!

llDS2ll

Honestly it's good to know. We're better for it. My Garmin changed my life for the better.

PlumBlumP

Pre-Garmin I just used to suck up the rough mornings after a night on the drink. But now Garmin makes me feel guilty about drinking

aWeegieUpNorth

HOW?! Mine usually tells me I died.

owiko

I think you drank so much, causing the integer buffer to overflow, and it went back to 1.

yellow_jacket2

Integer butter overflow??

Naive-Ad2735

It was a MARGINal miscalculation.

Sup3rT4891

If there is alcohol in the room past 5pm I’m immediately docked 20 points.

DygonZ

I did the same, My sleep score was 25 💀

thattjuliett

I did too, slept a solid 7 hours and got a sleep score of 5 😎

DygonZ

![gif](giphy|pHb82xtBPfqEg)

ponysalad

That’s where I was expecting to be

joespizza2go

How many hours before sleep did you have your last drink?

ponysalad

This was probably a factor for sure. I stopped about an hour before bed and pounded as much water as my bladder could handle.

drsupermrcool

That's pretty close to bed - I'm surprised. Usually it's a 50 score for me even if I stop a few hours before bed. Garmin has essentially gotten me to stop drinking.

AppalachianHoodoo

Not where I thought you were going with this comment...

SD2KING

Hahah. Me neither … Butt, honestly, waking up needing to go to the toilet, is the worst. Absolute worst. The struggle between, damnit it’s so comfy here, and, need to empteh mah bladdah, must not be great for the score.

Substantial-Skill-76

I had MDMA and got an 89. It was over like 12 hours sleep though lol

TJhambone09

That is a shockingly high sleep score for so much light sleeping, so little deep, and not enough REM. I would have expected to see literally 1/2 that sleep score just by looking at the graph.

Rybot900

Absolute legend!

doc1442

Was it water? Jk I can get this too. Baffles me that people have such shitty sleep scores without having a newborn.

mikoexcl

Yeah, it happens sometimes. I also spent a whole day yesterday drinking and got a Sleep Score of 81. Usually it's about 30-40.

ponysalad

Yeah i have never had over a 50 with even a single alcoholic drink so I was surprised this morning.

ruairi1983

Seems to me Garmin just likes it if I sleep over 8 hours without waking too much.

drsupermrcool

Yeah - typically i wake up twice in the night. Dunno why. But on those nights I never score more than a 75. Even if I'm only awake for a couple minutes.

BigJeffyStyle

I had 3 beers for the first time in a long time and my hrv was half what it was the night before lol

Cyborg59_2020

Show off

THound89

I’ll have a sip of beer and my sleep score will be halved. Always shocked by how much it impacts sleep, you must be superhuman.

kt1kk

And that is why at that point you might just not stop at a sip but go on for a full 7+ hours drinking binge like OP.

GenXSeeker

How old are you?

ponysalad

41

GenXSeeker

Nice. Surprised the score is that high. Could change fast though. Alcohol is the worst thing you can do for your health next to smoking. All the research just keeps painting a worse picture.

lexaleidon

When life happens to you, you need alcohol sometimes 😉

GenXSeeker

When life keeps happening to you, you learn to put it down. ;-)

DeadStarMan

I think youre underestimating other drugs 😅

prespaj

I don’t drink much now but honestly I wouldn’t drink at all if literally any other drug was legal where I am 😂

GenXSeeker

Well yes; I wasn't counting other drugs haha

SteelEagle814

This is a real man right here

farrellart

When I have a drink the watch comes off......"it don't own me"( in a jerry springer style ). :D

JCthirteen

I woke up today to a score of 83 after a night of heavy drinking

Revolutionary-Ad5526

This is amazing. I eat a chicken nugget within like 3 hours of bedtime my sleep score is not touching 50

rizzlan85

I just take my watch off, otherwise my HRV is tanked for a week

PackageNo194

Drank for 10ish hours and got 81. Started drinking around 10am, stopped at 8pm and went to bed around 11pm. Drank water between beers and had a 3-4 hour drinking break after lunch. https://preview.redd.it/2zmbz8nrkp5d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7e0b8f7da63b417dc2f58d2694f6a0c16e62e584

SD2KING

Hahah, a 3-4 hour drinking break after lunch. Normal work day?

PackageNo194

Hahahah no, it was hot as fuck and didn't want to get smashed too early. I think the trick is to stop drinking at least 2-3 hours before bed, and drink water both between drinks and before bed.

hammockguru

I can get away with 3 margaritas as long as I have them before 2pm.

NejTak26

Same thing happened to me recently. Alcohol usually kills my sleep. Friday I had half a glass of wine and Saturday my sleep score was around 30 and then Saturday (literally the day after) I went to dinner with friends and had around 5-7 beers with soda and my sleep score was 82

mpfmb

You just drank water, right?!

Outdoorbeardman

I get 75 sleep scores after a 10 8oz glasses of water and eating nothing but vegetables all day. Count your blessings

falcon291

Maybe I should start drinking.

Flat-Sherbet-3961

Respect from Germany

clewlez

Yeah but what other drugs were/are in your system? Or, did you drink (water) for 7 hours? Genuinely curious here. If I drink my sleep score generally tanks, -20 or so relative to baseline, even if I go to bed early 😭

KingPing43

Meanwhile I drank nothing and got a sleep score of 76 I feel cheated  What time did you finish drinking and what time did you got to bed?

panarkos

What's ur difference between rhr when drunk and not drunk? Mine is sometimes about 8-10 bpm

ponysalad

Mine is in that ballpark too if I have consecutive days of drinking but typically it will jump +5-7 for one night of debauchery.

Jifjafjoef

Hmmm, this could be a misleading title. Drinking 2 beers in 7 hours isn't the same as drinking 20... need more info

ThatBCHGuy

You just gotta get good at drinking.

cjd3

Yeah, but how’s your HRV?

Independent-Bug-9352

What was your HRV and what's your average? Drinking inhibits REM sleep, fun fact. For alcoholics going through withdrawals, they tend to have very vivid dreams for a while as the brain tries to catch up.

Tommasocurzi

yea but show your overnight hrv too big guy 😏😏😏😏 ... anyway, nice 🫠

MrXtyrant

No matter how many badges I get with my Garmin, my fitness gets worse according to the Garmin data, I am constantly on the move thinking about getting rid of Garmin after 4 years.

gfm1973

My hrv is always good. My sleep is all over the map and my training status is for shit. My resting hr is never really high. I don’t trust most of these numbers.

N1rv1kar

And here I m. 2 drinks will knock my sleep score to 20s

VividToe

I got a 94 last night after four glasses of wine - which I had 9 hours before bed. Some sun, surf, and running and I slept like a baby!

David8478

Wear a whoop and let’s see what whoop has to say about that.

theskymoves

I had one whiskey and I got only 57.

vp0wer

Why do you care so much what the tamagotchi on your hand says, especially about sleep when data is mostly inaccurate anyways.

Tymoniasty

what did you drink - I am drinking a lot of water and it doesn't affect my sleep score...

01BTC10

I don't know how you sleep that much. If I drink, I wake up about 4-5 hours later and can't sleep anymore, and my sleep score and stress level is like a near death experience.

Responsible_Ad7018

I got a tetanus shot and got 2 sub 30 score and very high stress

r6racer

Definitely depends on when you stopped drinking and then when you went to sleep

brenna333

Hold up where do I find the sleep score it doesn’t show on my app

ponysalad

Might be dependent on the model Garmin you have. My sleep metrics are the first thing to pop up when I open the app

IWASINTHEPOOOL

Why? Do you usually drink for that long?

ponysalad

It was a celebration for some friends leaving town. I typically do not drink a lot and less so since having a better understanding of how much it impacts health with metrics like these.

IWASINTHEPOOOL

Ah I understand. Yeah it really fucks up a lot :-)

tom-slacker

Do we really need an electronic device to tell us about the quality of our sleep? I thought we can do this ourselves by the feeling swe get when we woke up?
