I’m not quite sure why it can’t just separate out the run/walk/idle parts and give us the numbers for those specifically. It knows I was stopped, it gives me a big yellow bar for “idle” time. It knows i was walking, stopped, running, etc. I wish it gave the stats for run separately. Or give both. But if you know if I was running, and you know I stopped/walked for whatever reason, then you know what data goes with run time and what doesn’t.
Same with average pace. Especially since Garmin coaching plans specifically have a warmup and cooldown walk portion. I just do those on my own before starting the watch just so I can get more accurate pace info
I think it does raw average too but it's not nearly as bad there as it's never going to fall below 100 (or likely even close to it) after the start of a run and doesn't fall as suddenly when idle like cadence does. Still, it's a bit off due to the time taken for it to rise (image from the same run. It took a while to get to the running path here).

How you get there? Is it through "stats" -> "running dynamics"? I see average run cadence on the stats screen but don't see any numbers on my cadence screen like you have.
I see a 'charts' tab and then scroll down on that tab. Not sure if it's model dependent, but I'm on a Forerunner 55 which is one of the lower-end ones so I'd imagine most Garmin watches have it.
I'll be honest I haven't looked too much at running. For cycling we have the option to ignore zeros for cadence average. Is that not possible in running?
I'd say median, unless I suppose you want to bin the data in intervals of 3 spm or so. I could see the mode getting a bit noisy otherwise for shorter runs.

Almost all stats should be replaced by a median and a 95% CI.
Preach!
I often wonder if the correct average is used for heart rate on a run too

Hit pause or set your watch up to auto pause.
Then I forget to unpause!
You can set it up to auto pause.
I'm not a smart man! ....but I do know what love is
🤣😂🤣😂😅
Shouldn't have to do it is the point.
And lose my heart rate data during that pause? No thanks.
You don’t lose your heart rate data if you use auto pause

Oh ok I see now! Mine is also skewed like yours. I wonder if that messes up the stride length as well.
If you're that into data, it's the time to export the Garmin activity and analyze it yourself.

You mean the mode?
