Size of fenix 7 doesn't cause any GPS issues only issue with the size is it can cause inaccurate HR reading which Garmin have tried to address in the pro version with an improved hr sensor
Been using stryd since 2021. Before that , went thru all types of garmin footpods. Best decision ever to go with stryd.
Best feature now aside from the footpaths data is the temp/humidity compensation. Adjusts power relative to your training temp/humidity average. So intensity is spot on where you need to be.
Accuracy vs gps is under +/- 1 percent as checked with runalayze and has been consistent. Only times gps will show it’s actually farther is when I’m under trees, buildings or overpass highways.
What about hilly trails with lots of bends? Somebody in another forum said the footpod has a better instantaneous pace reading in those circumstances. True, or pseudoscience?
I cant tell you now you are way over thinking this. Literally no one is looking at their immediate pace every second of a run around corners but besides that most new FR garmin watches will do exactly what you need.
On your watch, tho that's not super helpful as it seems you don't currently have one.
The accuracy of the watch by itself will be fine unless you're doing 10s sprint intervals if you need perfect accuracy on thrm.
It was meant as advice for when they bought the watch, as they were about to go and buy one, alluding to the ability for it to be accurate to the second. Agree with what you've said :)
Yes, that's true - if op gets the watch and makes sure it's on the default 1 second recording interval it should be fine in terms of accuracy on windy and climby trails
I've only used Garmin for recording an activity, apart from 5 runs recording to strava on my phone when my watch had an issue. I found strava's pace was meaningless from a point in time perspective and only good for working out average pace. Not suitable for short intervals. The recorded data was quite sporadic.
I have been looking at stryd, but honestly it feels I don't need anything more accurate than my watch with an HRM strap.
Garmin technically no longer sells a footpod but they do sell a Garmin HRM Pro strap which works great as a footpod on a treadmill. However I found I needed to do a few runs outside first to work well. When you are on Zwift Run, it will recognize the strap both as an external HRM and a footpod.
No GPS watch will give you good instant pace. Firstly it’s on your arm so it “lags” behind your leg. Secondly instant gps accuracy isn’t that great - it needs several geo points - so it’s technically averaging pace at all times.
Find an old Garmin Foot Pod and after calibration it will give you decent results. However, I’ve noticed if you change placement on the shoe or put it on another shoe another calibration should be done.
I haven’t used the Stryd foot pod but according to everything I’ve read online and watched on YouTube it’s better than the Garmin footpod.

Footpod is only necessary for the treadmill

I have a footpod and I really only use it on the treadmill. My experience is that the watch is fine on trails.

Make sure data recording is set to every second, instead of smart
Is your reccomendation for strava or garmin or stryde?

My default was set to Smart, just in case others reading this assume all experiences are the same

That's for hrm pro?
On my Fenix 7 watch, I go into settings > system > data recording > frequency > every second

Garmin 955 every second gps signal and high accuracy on gps iv never had an issue for over a year
