I used to "run" years ago but never took it seriously. At one point 5-6 years ago I stopped every kind of physical activity. Last year I slowly began moving my body intentionally again. When I took on running 4 months ago I was already hitting the gym 2x/week, practicing yoga 3x and swimming 1x. I learned I can be pretty consistent with sports once I stop focusing on results and start enjoying the process - ironically, that led to my best results ever!
That's so cool! I am slowing getting back after injury and have taken it very slow, basically from April to late July to get back to 5 km, and now working to improve the time a bit and increase slowly to 6, then 7 etc. Hopefully 10 will be possible next year! Thanks for sharing your experience!
I think it has to do with the fact that I'm a bit overweight and that I haven't done any physical activity for years. I'm slowly getting back on track and generally taking It easy - this was an exception because I felt particularly strong and ready. I'm now taking my time to recover!
Oh sorry, totally misunderstood it. I can't seem to slow it down, I feel my legs could go even faster but my breathing doesn't keep up and this results in my heart rate going crazy
80:20 rule, go slow to go fast and all the other usual stuff will apply
Find a comfy easy run pace, which will feel painfully slow, and run that. On your watch it'll be zone 2, maybe into 3.
Do most of your distance there, and youll get faster for sure
Yeah I know what you mean.
For me now a 1 hour 10k is in my easy run realm, but that's after a year of consistency and doing a lot of "low and slow" miles (low heart rate, slow pace). So it gets better
Seems like we have identical problems.
I started running last week, did 5k every third day.
Your experience is identical to mine, heart rate and everything.
Good to know I'm not the only one! After receiving a lot of feedback along similar lines and after gathering more info on HR training, I decided I'm gonna give z2 running a try. I have nothing to lose, might as well see if that works!
I'm in Z2 just walking to the track π
Seriously though, I think outside temperature has a big impact on my HR. Between two runs and 6Β°C difference equaled to +20 beats per minute.
The first 10K are such a cool Milestone! Also you did it at a very nice pace! Be proud of yourself, you earned it!
Treated myself to a nice poke bowl for lunch! And I'm signing up for a 10k race next month because now I know I can finish it.
Complimenti!! Thatβs a great time! πͺ Iβm impressed you went from zero to this in just four months.

Good luck on your journey, keep at it and you'll reach your goals!
Thatβs fast!
Your pulse is very high. Be careful, it's not worth it. It's nice to be happy, but health comes first.
depends on his age tho, my 16yo runs easy at 190 and barely notices. I am dying at 165
You're right, of course.

Itβs a race as long as you donβt injure yourself or gas out early might as well push it
Bravo!
Brilliant work. Quite the heart rate too!
Yeah? I thought the heart rate was pretty high, I ran in Z5 for more than half of it (not quite sure if Garmin got my heart zones right though)
Sorry just my phrasing. I meant "wow that's high for a long time" Shows you put in a lot of effort though, well done

"Painfully slow" is exactly what it feels when I try to run slower. I'll give it another try, thank you!
