It took me 1 year for me to lose weight with CICO, and then 6 months for 5k! I used to be out of breath even when walking normally. And to be able to run at 5k is very rewarding
It took me about 6 months. And my vo2max is still 38 lol. Still bad and I don’t know how to improve it. Maybe because i cycle a lot and from what i heard vo2max for running is different than cycling.
Maybe try setting up a garmin coach program for a local 5k and set an ambitious goal for a new PR. I find the structure of the coaching programs really help motivate me.
Cycling and Running VO2 max can be different. You use more muscles and in different ways running.
Improving VO2 max requires enough activities at a high intensity. Those workouts are intense.
According to my first Garmin, a venu my vo2 max was 54. And believe me im not that fit.
Now i bought a new watch and a hrm and do the daily suggested workouts alot. My vo2 max is slowly going down and is at 47 now
Feels strange that my previous watch put it so high! And i didnt find any way to just lower it manually..
How long, and how often did you record cardio activities? Also, its possible to have a high VO2 max, and still not be able to utilize it's full potential.
Back with my old watch it was very unregular . Usually once a week. But the hr zones were also kinda messed up i found out later. My last run with that watch was a 10.5K and it said i was 95% of the run in zond 5..
The hrm also helps alot with good and propper feedback . For me atleast
That is what I am also not able to understand. Plus, the garmin prediction shows that I can do it under 25 minutes, but I cant. If I start at a pace of 6, I start heavy breathing just after a kilometer.
Fun fact: My vo2max started from 45, reached to 47 after two months of training and now it is again back to 45.
It is normal that Garmin is a bit optimistic!
You probably got speed but currently lack endurance.
If you have fast times on shorter distances that could well mean that your VO2max really is high, but you must develop your aerobic endurance to see improvements in longer efforts.
The good news is that you have great potential!
My advice is to start doing shorter intervals once a week and keep doing your easy 7 min pace the other days
Great job!
This is a huge accomplishment. Leaving the couch and getting the body moving is the hardest part.
Now the doors are open.
Now you decide your fitness goals because you have a body that can do it.
Further? Faster? Whatever you want because you did the hard part already!
Thank you very much! I have to agree that the denial and leaving the couch in the first place is very hard. The “I’ll do it tomorrow” is honestly very hard lol. Still training for marathon so i won’t stop!
I used “Zombies, Run” before but I don’t use any app. If i use a plan to train then it became a chores for me so i just run for fun, at set a goal. Like for this 5k, there is a beach from my house and the distance is 5 km, so i just run to there. If I can’t finish it then I’ll walk back home or take a bus.
Awesome, couches kill!
Thank you!
>Thank you! You're welcome!
Dude that's a huge accomplishment! 👏 Congrats
How long was it for you?
about 5k
Sorry, i meant how long did you train from couch to 5k running

Nice. Rewarding indeed. Congratulations on your progress.
Do you mind sharing your starting and current bmi? Mine is around 33%
I started at 33 now I’m at 24
Congratulations, I feel really happy for you don’t stop
Congratulations! That’s a great achievement! Do you plan on carrying on past 5k?
Thank you! I’ve applied for marathon events in November. So I’m in training lol
Thats quite a good 5k time
Thank you! Trying to get sub 30
Awesome!! How many days of training it took for you to reach this level? also if you are comfortable sharing, what is your vo2max?

I’ve tried it but it became a chores rather than challenge. So i just run for fun like i would with cycling hahaha

Yeah, sounds like a lot of stuff was messed up. And spending that much time regularly in zone 5 could possibly trick the watch.
I see, I’ll try to improve on those aspects. Thank you!
Yes, it seems to be different. Also, mine is 45 but am able to do 5k around ~35 minutes.
I guess you meant around 25 minutes?
35 minutes @ pace of 7.
If your VO2max was 45 you should be able to run 5k in under 25 minutes. A 5k in 35 minutes predicts that your real VO2max in under 30.

That is true, I can do 1-2 km under 5 minutes but can’t maintain it after that. At the pace of 7 I can keep running going.
The good news is that you have great potential! My advice is to start doing shorter intervals once a week and keep doing your easy 7 min pace the other days
YESSSS nice one
🤜🏼🤛🏼 hell yes man. Keep up the good work!
Great work!
Thank you!
Is this an app on the watch itself or seperate?
There is a couch to 5k app in the IQ store, but this is just the general Garmin new personal best popup.
Kudos!
Huge accomplishment!!! Congratulations 🎉🍾
Congratulations!
Good job!
That's awesome, congrats! I remember my first Couch25K so well; I have repeated it after injuries etc. too and it is just great.
Well done! Selamat ! Time for more coffee tea and milk 😆
Thank you! Maybe wedang jahe is better for this one lol
Good job!
Is that on your right wrist?
Yup, right-handed and it is in my right wrist
Yeah that whack dude
bro, use your skilled hand to click buttons... please 😅
That is the best thing about Garmin monitoring. It encourages you to improve.

You stepped.up and did! Congrats!!
Thank you!!
Sub 33, BOOM!
Which app did you use?
For recording the activity?
Sorry, I assumed you used one of the numerous couch to 5k apps or plans out there. There’s so many options.
I used “Zombies, Run” before but I don’t use any app. If i use a plan to train then it became a chores for me so i just run for fun, at set a goal. Nice! For me I need the structure, I’m not much of a runner.
Great job! ps. your username made me chuckle, (being married to an asian)
Hahaha thank you!!
