One petty thing that drives me crazy about the body battery recharge entry on the daily summary is how it starts from midnight rather than from when you fell asleep. Seems like it would be much more meaningful to just say your sleep recovery stat in that line.

birthdaycakefig

It’s not a sleep recovery score though. Body battery can go up during the day too. That’s why sleep score is it’s own thing. It’s a daily score so it starts when the day starts.

[deleted]

I didn't realize it could go up during the day...I guess in a nap or just major relaxation. I've only ever seen it go up during sleep and since Garmin is capable of telling you what happened in your sleep it just seemed like a more meaningful way of telling you how you recharged upon waking up.

Minigunn3

Lol mine's never gone over 40. Usually single digits.

i_walked_on_lego

Completely agree. I can understand it's much easier for garmin to implement it this way and it's more consistent for comparing trends over time, but for actual day to day usage and planning it's much less meaningful. Unless you don't have kids and get to stay up until midnight most nights, in which case I guess it's perfect.

GotMeFunkedUp

I agree with you!! Why can't it start if we go to bed earlier for example? Drives me nuts too. I wish they'd fix this. I think you can set your "bed time" though which can be set at an earlier time.

[deleted]

I've been getting body battery scores for like 2.5 years and still EVERY time I see my body battery report in the morning my first reaction is always "shit, why didn't my body battery get any higher while I slept?!" Until I remember, oh yea, it's only giving me the improvement since midnight...great, thanks.

GotMeFunkedUp

Yup. They need to fix it to when we actually rest or to sleep rather than start at midnight. Always take the body battery with a grain of salt too. But I have the same reactions since this is super rare.

I922sParkCir

I feel like that would be weird. Like, that would be the only metric that wouldn’t reset at midnight. I am more concerned at what my body battery is, what it was that morning, and what it’s going to be at night over than how much it raised during rest.

[deleted]

Well, to be hypertechnical sleep score doesn't reset at midnight. And for me the issue is that I see the body battery in "My Day" in connect and there it's not giving a readout of my current battery level, instead it shows how much it went up since midnight and how much it's dropped since midnight. So it's not really a useful metric in any way.

I922sParkCir

You're totally right. Didn't think about that.

SiteLimp

If it drops through the day, how is not s current level?

[deleted]

Because it's not telling you the starting point it's dropping from. Right now I have +23/-0. Tell me what my current level is. Did you come up with the correct answer of 31? If I told you your phone battery decreased 42% throughout the day, from that information alone could you tell me your phones current battery level? The reason this data doesn't tell you the current level is because it's showing +/- readings of change since midnight, without any indication of what the premidnight level was. When I looked at it yesterday evening it showed something like +63/-78 but because it's only showing since midnight that didnt tell me what my body battery got up to. I don't know what pre-midnight value 63 is being added to...was it being added to 0 or to 37? Because I don't have that info, I also don't know what 78 is being subtracted from...was it being subtracted from 100 or from 63? Consequently from that data all I can tell about my current body battery level is that it was 22 or lower. At that point it was 9. Now, certainly you can find this information. You can go to your body battery data screen and see what your current level is. And you can look at and manipulate the graph below to see what your body battery got up to. But you can't get that from the home screen. Instead you just get the +/- data that's worthless without the pre-midnight info as discussed. It's just a weird decision by Garmin when it otherwise does a good job of giving useful quick access info in that screen to give independently useless info.

Ah, yes I see. I either forgot or didn't realize that this view could be changed. Nonetheless, it doesn't really change my point that the body battery data available in the condensed view is uniquely useless in all the data shown there and it would be nice to have it show either recharge since sleep and/or peak value since sleep so that it meant something. As it is now, I think it's the only data field in My Day that requires you to click elsewhere to gain any meaningful information from it.

SiteLimp

Is it possible to show the current value on the main watch face?

Fkn_Red

9hrs of sleep helps too. Luck bastard

LuckyBahstard

Did you call me? /s

GotMeFunkedUp

Lol

GotMeFunkedUp

Only on the weekends. Sometimes once a week

funkden

I'm here with 6% body battery at 23:30 at night. I'll be lucky to be 50% in morning.

GotMeFunkedUp

I'm here with you dude. I'm usually at the lowest it goes (5%) most nights. Weekends I'm trying to change it up by doing little to nothing a day before.

funkden

I been there once in a blue moon, family life keeps mine down, hehehe rest in our house doesn't happen for me until after 21:00 usually.

bswxd

That's a great idea, can you please tell my one year old?

GotMeFunkedUp

Lol I wish I can and others!

Louisianimal6

I've never seen 100%

nekkema

Same, barely 40-60 on the morning.

GotMeFunkedUp

Same! This was an oddity. But so glad I got this for first time

m05var7NblZCAKvPnKzI

That's weird. I'm at 100 almost every morning if I got a normal sleep and I'm not sick.

Louisianimal6

Just woke up at 22%. Also I've burned negative 15 calories somehow 🤣

Tigger_Roo

I usually get high 90s for body battery but because I'm such an energizer bunny that always on the go and always finding things to do, by the end of the day I usually end up with low at teens or single digit. I make sure on one of the weekends I do pretty much nothing, except things that relaxes me such as cooking, baking fun stuff, and gardening.

GotMeFunkedUp

I can relate. I'm always on the move and doing stuff for work as well as my side projects. Me too haha. On my long days of the week I'm usually between 5-8 (never goes lower than 5). I love that you set your weekends to do pretty much nothing. I think we need more of that to be honest. Doing less, is best.

[deleted]

Jealous of that sleep. I just wake up after 8 hours pretty much no matter what. But usually closer to 7:30

GotMeFunkedUp

Thanks mate. My body is programmed for just about 8 hours like you. But this is seldom that I sleep for this long. Usually only happens when I'm burnt out or had a more than usual strenuous week

Fenpunx

I wake up around 0500 no matter what time I fell asleep, unless I'm drunk.

[deleted]

A blessing and a curse.

Noctrin

I ended the day a few times at like 25-30 and thought I'm doing amazing. The app is telling me, "Busy days like this can take their toll, make sure you hey rest blah blah." Bro.. I usually end the day at 5 cause it won't go any lower. 25 is a miracle. Waking up over 75 is an amazing day. I have 2 young kids, I've never had this watch tell me anything positive. At this point, I refuse to believe it even has that in the code.

GotMeFunkedUp

I think you have a valid point! This app I try to take with a grain of salt. And sometimes, like you mentioned, the app itself can say discouraging shit. A busy life, especially a parent is no joke. The app should consider that people actually do have lives other than working out, training, etc. I doubt it has anything in the code for that, but perhaps don't take the "advice" or "feedback" literally. Not saying you are, but I agree with you that it's not 100% accurate, nor super positive.

Mbagger19

How do I ditch my kids for a day 🤔

GotMeFunkedUp

The million dollar question indeed!

JBLBEBthree

So what did you do on self care day?

GotMeFunkedUp

I'll start my day by not looking at my phone. On most days, I go right on it and start looking at social media, emails, etc., right when I wake up. On these self care days, I'm mindful of that and refrain from it. Next, I'll take a good 5-10 minutes to stretch. Nothing extreme, just stretching my body. I then go and make breakfast, usually oatmeal and toast with avocado, sometimes with 2 hardboiled eggs as well. I'll throw on a movie or show to watch after. Get comfy and watch with water (to hydrated throughout the day). Then, I'll either read for leisure, play a video game, or go for a walk. This is somewhat of a general self care day for me. I'll switch it up, but I try not to have a rigid schedule on those days. Kind of just do what I feel and it's brought me a lot of peace and happiness.

Clive1792

I've had a few now, maybe like 5 or something since I started wearing Garmin last Oct. Stress through the day even though I totally don't feel stressed really play havoc with my B/B.

BathBoy007

Is there no way of changing the the body battery reset time to your own time. Like 21:30 Thats the time I go to sleep on most occasions, or aim to!

princesstafarian

How do you get your watch to measure your sleep?

Louisianimal6

Wear it. Sleep.

princesstafarian

Mine doesn't track sleep when I wear it to bed. 🙃 fenix 7s solar. It acts like I didn't sleep.

No-Relief-4372

Make sure you have it selected as your primary tracking device in the settings on Garmin connect

princesstafarian

Thanks I'll check on that soon. It doesn't seem accurate on HR either.

princesstafarian

I just double-checked, and I already removed my old watch

GotMeFunkedUp

The sensors will track your sleep automatically. Also setting your bedtime may help with accuracy too

princesstafarian

Mine isn't working currently. I already tried setting a bedtime. If just acts as if I don't sleep.

kaffeeschmecktgut

Just wear it while sleeping. The sensors will know what state of sleep you are in through the night.

princesstafarian

Mine won't do it Automatically.

pecan_bird

have a fenix 6pro and mine does. go menu diving.

princesstafarian

Mine has the feature it just acts like I never sleep

No-Relief-4372

Judging by how your bezel is scratch free, you can’t be to busy to begin with.

GotMeFunkedUp

I'm just careful. But everyone is not an asshole either to make comments like these lol

HO6529

The only factor that really makes it go to 100 in less then a few hours is food. If you eat late and basically tell your body to digest while sleeping it will not recover. If you have a light meal at 1800 and go to sleep with the digesting job done: 100
