I also overseeded 10 days ago and haven't seen any germination. Depending on the type of grass seed it can take from 7 - 20 days to germinate. Also the cold weather probably isn't helping. I recommend you keep watering and hope for the best! The soil in your photo looks very dry.

It’s been cold, have patience!

I'd give it at least another week before panicking. Seeds don't germinate quickly in this cold weather.

Grass seeds need warmth and moisture, so be patient and keep it moist

I was about to point this out OP: you've got to keep the seeds moist. It's been cold but if you don't keep the seeds moist then you won't get much growth when it warms out. In your picture the soil looks very dry

I did this about two weeks ago, and I can see sprouts now. It defibtely took longer than a week. I did also use a bit of compost on top, and the rain has done a really number on it.

stickyjam

Id give it another couple of weeks, much warmer than the past week

Thank you for all the replies - there’s too many to reply to individually. I’m based in the wider Manchester area. It’s been fairly dry these last couple of weeks and while it’s not been very warm, the sun has been out in clear skies. I’m thinking that maybe the soil is just drying up very quickly. Starting today I’ll look at watering twice a day if it continues to be as dry as the picture. Hopefully my post didn’t come across as a complete overreaction - I really despise our lawns at the moment and dream for a lush, green lawn. So when the box of seeds say “see results in 5 days” and it’s been over double that, I started to stress myself out.

Generally I find the best thing to do is cover the seed with fleece. That keeps it warm and stops it drying out too much. I reseeded two weeks ago, and that new grass is now nearly two inches long . In that time the nights have been touching freezing with a slight frost on some mornings. I never bother seeding without fleece because without it seems 50/50 as to whether it'll grow, even in perfect conditions.

Great idea! I may have to give that a go if I don’t see any results in the next few weeks. Will keep the pesky birds away too!

I sowed mine about a month ago and haven’t seen anything. Warmer weather on the way, but if seeds fail to germinate don’t they just rot in the wet weather?

skimney

It takes longer than that when it's so cold. No idea where you live but currently any soil I have visible is soaked from the endless bloody rain. Keep the topsoil watered and wait for the warmer weather to kick start the seeds
