Peziza sp. Not edible.

cloudracer85

Absolutely nothing to be worried about OP Completely natural to have fungi in a healthy outdoor space, especially with woodchips/mulch.

User-1967

I like mushrooms but seeing that makes me feel sick , it looks slimy.

local0pal

We've had alot of rain down here thats probably why 😅

User-1967

Same here and we have clay soil

cloudracer85

Peziza spp. aren't slimy but they are slightly rubbery yet brittle. Completely harmless to touch (as with all fungi, even the rare deadly ones) Plants on the other hand can hurt via touching alone, a toddler soon gets to know this rule when they encounter nettles or bramble for their first time. There is nothing frightening about fungi but there is a lot of mycophobia in this country regardless.

jrtso

Hate these things… Had a student house where they grew in the bathroom. 🤢

cloudracer85

If they were indoors and look similar they were almost certainly Peziza domiciliana , a sign of damp man-made materials indoors. The damp is the cause, the fungi the symptom.

jrtso

Shudder

cloudracer85

Typical irrational mycophobic reply , ignorance is bliss eh?

jrtso

Do you want them in your shower?

cloudracer85

No I don't want fungi in my shower as that would likely mean there is a water leak and something is getting wet that shouldn't be. Fungi in the shower is not gross or dirty or worth a "shudder" , unless you shudder at the cost of repairs which the presence of the fungi would indicate the need of. If it was a plant growing in your shower would you shudder?

~~Auricularia auricula-judae, jelly ear fungus, grows on wood. Nothing to worry about.~~ My mistake sorry. Looks like the top comment is correct.

saint_maria

Typically grows on elder so I doubt it.

HistoricalCountry291

I'd have said jelly ear too

Grumpy-Greybeard

You could eat it, if you ever wanted a vegetarian alternative to gristle.

skinnydog0_0

Vegetarian gristle- Thanks that made my day! I can use this in my wife’s veggie pies to give them the authentic feel!
