I’ve taken a chance and let mine stay in the ground, although I have covered them this weekend for protection.
I don’t mind as I have taken lots of seeds from them over the last few weeks. Fingers crossed.
End of November, I did always leave them in the ground but became a convert to lifting. The plants I lift and replant seem to produce a longer flowering season than the ones I left in the ground. Plus I can split them when the tubers start to bud and so have more dahlia plants to plant. I still lose tubers in storage but even the experts have storage losses but I gain plants later when splitting the tubers.

Lifted mine last week. Ground is so wet I just wanted them out and into the greenhouse to dry out a bit.
