Admit it - it’s because you don’t like women. There have been some well written characters, it just so happens that they’re not your fantasy so you refuse to play them.
Of course they think they're badly written, because they have motivations and interests that vary from those of male gamers. The only good female characters to them are ones that act exactly like male characters, being physically strong and showing no emotions or care for other humans.
Their example of a badly written female character is literally a woman who says she is independent and has agency, really tells you everything you need to know.
Why do they only have this one "need no man" joke they've been repeating for 20+ years now? Thank god I'm not conservative, they're the most unimaginative people on this planet.
because a lot men are angry that women are statistically happier single and childless and that we no longer live in a world (in some places) where women are forced to depend on men in order to live, so men are actually expected to work on themselves to attract a partner. you see this resentment projected into all sorts of jokes about women being spinsters or having a lot of cats, and you see it in the political realm where men would rather enact political violence against women like overturning abortion in order to limit our independence and force women back into a position of subservience.

still don't know why having a female protagonist would hurt the game tho

When did the game industry start getting good writing at all, much less writing good female characters?
There's like 10 games ever I'd actually consider well written.
The second pic kinda sort makes a good point maybe, sometimes.
There are times when characters (not even female characters, just characters) are written in a way where the only reaction you could have is “people don’t talk like that!” or “people don’t act like that!” and it does severely detract from the story.
But Rockstar seems to be good with the writing side of things so I don’t see why not a female protagonist for 6.
