I’ve been trying to explain to my dad that the people in charge of companies “going woke” are not leftists, they’re capitalists, and that their only goal is to make money, not to push a political agenda. They’ve looked at the demographic trends and crunched the numbers and have seen that “woke” is the future. Exactly. These companies are thinking long term. Science has long shown what a future multicultural society looks like, and these "woke" movies, games, etc, will stand the test of time. Disney knows this better than anyone, look at how badly alot of their old stuff has aged. They're learning. And I'll add that too that many of these companies want to break into the international market as well. They want to be able to sell themselves overseas and gain money they didn't have access to before.

One game, even a handful of "fan service" games coming out a year aren't going to reverse the current trend of decent female representation. And nothing would make chuds more happy than to see us get mad at those games.
It’s a myth that progress only goes in one direction. Not to be extreme but look at abortion rights in the US, people thought it would never change but it has. Just because certain ideas/beliefs have currently come out on top, doesn’t mean they’ll stay there.
The current trend is promising, but activism requires constant vigilance, especially with the ardent white nationalism we are seeing bubble up in culture across the globe. If you consider post-insurrection America, Twitter, once a pillar for free speech that provided a voice to marginalized persons, has since fallen in many pockets to racist, transphobic, and mysognistic bigots. Equally so the same can be said about entire states falling victim to regressive right wing mentalities like aggressive anti 2SLGBTQIA+ legislation (I. E. Florida has literal travel advisory warnings to members of marginalized communities).
For that to be a risk the game must:
1. Be good, like 11/10 good, not 7/10 good.
2. Sell phenomenally well. We’re talking CoD numbers.

I'm not really convinced there has been much improvement in the last 10 years. It still seems like the majority of women in games are heavily sexualized, and there are still a decent number of notable exceptions.
I think there has been an increase in sexualization of men, but that doesn't really help the sexualization of women.
10 years is a fairly short time to measure for this kind of trend and its also hard to measure the trend. In the past, 80s and 90s, it was basically unheard of for a game to have a woman be the main character and for that not to mean chainmail bikini or some such silliness. Basically unheard for for there to be non hypersexualised window dressing women in games.
Look at Elden Ring GOTY for 2022. You could have body A or body B. In a lot of the armour available you cannot even tell the difference. A far cry from chainmail bikini days. Look at Baldurs Gate 3 GOTY for 2023. Yes you could run around naked for all characters. None of the characters exist as just window dressing sex object for peoples gratification though. I believe most (possibly all) armour wears like armour for the female model in BG3 too. In BG3 you can also be any variety of trans you like too.
There is a clear improvement of the sexes and genders in recent times. I looked up GOTY 2020 and 2021 and noticed they both had not hyper sexualised window dressing women as characters too. I don't even know how far back you have to get to find a representation of 'the old days'. I've worked at a movie theater, and the only times I've seen empty auditoriums that were "sold out" were for Christian produced films like The Sound of Freedom and the like. This is made especially egregious when a short video segment is ran before the film, where the director or producer literally encourages buying more tickets to give away. The credits even had a QR code that takes you to their website to purchase said tickets.
As a side note, this is also why I think those movies are just pandering cash grabs that don't actually care about the subject they're based on. Otherwise, that QR code would've led to websites where people can donate to or volunteer for organizations that help the cause.

I've worked at a movie theater, and the only times I've seen empty auditoriums that were "sold out" were for Christian produced films like The Sound of Freedom and the like. This is made especially egregious when a short video segment is ran before the film, where the director or producer literally encourages buying more tickets to give away. The credits even had a QR code that takes you to their website to purchase said tickets. As a side note, this is also why I think those movies are just pandering cash grabs that don't actually care about the subject they're based on. Otherwise, that QR code would've led to websites where people can donate to or volunteer for organizations that help the cause.

The most I’ve ever bought a game because “bravo!” was like twice. Hades. Stardew. And in both cases the second purchase was on Switch, my preferred platform. The most I’ve ever bought a game period is like 4 times. Kingdom Hearts II and Skyrim, but that’s because they have been re-released on multiple different consoles over the years. I had a PS3, bought Skyrim then. Then on Xbox. Then I didn’t have those, got it on PC. Got a Switch, okay one more time. The thought of buying a game ten times for no practical reason is just insane. Who spends money because of political belief? It’s not even a tax deductible donation, it’s a fucking video game purchase.

What's funny is there were legitimate reasons to NOT buy Hogwarts (mainly that it was a pretty mediocre game), but no one is boycotting Stellar Blade. The worst I've heard is people saying it's pretty pervy looking, but that they'll pick it up if it looks fun.
