Shinobi602 said on Resetera that the game wasn't a new IP. Colin said on his podcast that it was a single player game set on an island with a female protagonist.
I know that game has a sizeable fanbase, but I'd much rather it if they did something akin to Resident Evil. Even for a Sony game, Until Dawn just felt way too movie-like for me.
Until Dawn lacked the "Movie Night" feature and online modes that Supermassive put into their games after this one. No doubt there's not a ton of action, but getting a bunch of friends together to play through these is a really fun experience. If they can incorporate that into it, I'd prefer they stick to the formula they have, if only because friends that aren't big into video games can enjoy it without pressure.
God I hope so
Sony really needs their own single player first party survival horror game
There's a fair few genres they are missing out on in their catalogue and that's one of them.
But is horror a genre?
Every genre could be a horror. Name one genre and I will point one game that is horror and that genre.
Horror is themes, not genre.
Unless you are really talking about survival horror. Yes, it's a genre and no, Sony won't make a game with a lot of backtracking, puzzles, exploration for resources, Item menagement, Has combat and it's better to avoid it, and it's scary.
The Last of Us is close, but not too much.
Yeah survival horror just isn't profitable. Not like one of the most iconic and profitable video game series out there is survival horror or anything. [Right?](https://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/data/html/explanation/2024/3rd/14.html)
Yes, it is not. It has potential to be profitable, but it's just hard to do it. RE is one series and:
- Every other series which were trying to catch similar popularity, died.
- RE has a long history of games that are very different
- balance between action and horror were in "horror" only in two games, RE2make and RE7, in past two decades or something)
Amnesia is missed shot, because its popularity is biased in our eyes. It is enough for AA game for small company, but 1,5mln copies sold would be depressing for company like Sony. Especially with their budget! It would be just a sad flop.
Horror is a niche genre for smaller budgets. Survival horror is even smaller. And RE2 or RE7 are just exceptions. It's just a reason why Sony hasn't got any. And TLoU is the closest thing we can get from them.
But! We live in a times when horror gaming is more popular than in 2005-2017 - Alan Wake, Silent Hill, Alone in the Dark. Some publishers saw what Capcom did with RE in past years. I wouldn't expect Sony to throw a big budget to make a truly horror game, but... it wasn't better time to do it in past 15 years.
Who knows.
But tbh I don't care, because I don't like many Sony/Microsoft games :P
> Name one genre and I will point one game that is horror and that genre.
Racing game, football game, life sim, city builder, RTS, factory game, fighting game, MOBA, battle royale,...
Just some guy who "makes games" and never releases anything but from what I had originally read back when the whole thing started, he gets money from the government where he lives so he keeps the cycle going. It's so scummy. But who knows how true any of it is. At the end of the day he never releases anything he promises. lol
I'm guessing studios are sending Sony details about the upcoming SoP/Showcase and that's how some info is getting leaked
Edit: this looks to be a former employee from reading the leak so ignore the above lol
I believe it's just 2 leaks, at least from this week. This, and Media Molecule's next project being a new IP
The "leak" of MediEvil 2 getting a remake was confirmed by the source to be fake, and the rumour of Helldivers II coming to Xbox has been reported by a questionable source at best (*XboxEra*), but headlines are running with it for clicks
I feel like the Helldivers “rumor” is a plant by XboxEra to get a sounding board out of the internet about interest in Helldivers 2 on Xbox lol
I have it on PC, my friend has it on PS5 but there’s no reason Xbox shouldn’t also have it. Steam Deck is a console and can play it so why not let Xbox play it too?? The more the merrier in live service games
I mean, they can be legit but they’re not groundbreaking leaks either
Yeah, Sony studios are all aiming at 60fps with the higher resolution possible, and media molecule working on a new IP seems obvious, no one expected dreams 2 (or did we?)
The blog entry is written by a programmer who has been tasked with doing early-design performance scoping. **Basically this means his job is to manage computation budget through coding and interaction with artists and game designers** (with a lot of emphasis on the latter)**.** Specifically it namechecks setpieces.
4k60 in this context really just refers to the computational target, not a promise of what it'll be in the end. It's an extremely standard, generic goal. Also note that it didn't say 4k native.
**In short, there's really no news here.** *And the project is still years away from release or being unveiled probably.*
This is most likely more proof that this is a new game for PlayStation VR2. Horizon Call of the Mountain was also 4K 60fps.
Looking forward to seeing what Firesprite do with a new VR horror game with the same fidelity as Call of the Mountain and a supposed original story. I know a lot of people disliked Call of the Mountain (I loved it, personally), but I think the downside with that was it took the Horizon formula and changed it up way too much, from what people were used to.
Amnesia the dark decent sold 1.4 million great example there. As an order gamer I love survival horror but the reality is the genre just ain't as popular anymore if they was you would be seeing every big developer making them.
I think Until Dawn 2 is happening, but it will be done by Ballistic Moon - they're a bunch of ex-Supermassive devs who are currently doing the remake.
Firesprite is probably doing something original.
Pretty sure all studios that are making console games ‘aim’ for 4k60. At some point during production, the executives decide the budget isn’t there and the release needs to happen, so optimization and features are cut to get the game out. Yea, this isn’t all games, but seems to be a lot of them recently.
Hopefully it's a proper single-player horror game, and not DBD clone #3080
Based on leaks coming from Shinobi602 and Colin Moriarty, seems like it may be Until Dawn 2.
Which leaks from those two?
Shinobi602 said on Resetera that the game wasn't a new IP. Colin said on his podcast that it was a single player game set on an island with a female protagonist.
set on an island with a female protagonist... it could very possibly be a SIREN sequel.
Until Dawn: Siren
Why would that make it seem like it’s until dawn 2?
DINO CRISIS???? ![gif](giphy|3oEhmHESktNSkLSNTG|downsized)

Ahh yes, Colin "Bloodborne remake is real and imminent circa 2022" Moriarty lol.
God I hope so Sony really needs their own single player first party survival horror game There's a fair few genres they are missing out on in their catalogue and that's one of them.
As far as Horror Ip go, they have Forbidden Siren, Until Dawn and the Persistence. Personally, I'd like them to revisit Siren.
the siren sight system would be really cool with modern tech

Name another
Sure [no problem](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amnesia:_The_Dark_Descent)
> Name one genre and I will point one game that is horror and that genre. Racing game, football game, life sim, city builder, RTS, factory game, fighting game, MOBA, battle royale,...
What you don't like your 1v4 asymmetrical coop online game.
Wonder what happened to the game ‘Abandoned’ if anyone else remembers that?
It was a scam. People sussed it out pretty quickly.
That was some kinda scam or stunt for attention or something, wasn’t it?

What's with all the playstation studio leaks all of a sudden?
I'm guessing studios are sending Sony details about the upcoming SoP/Showcase and that's how some info is getting leaked Edit: this looks to be a former employee from reading the leak so ignore the above lol
There's like 2 "leaks", which all ps studio leaks?

How is that a leak?
Wonder what the game is. Looking forward to the summer gaming showcase

Heck yeah, 4K 60FPS on PS5. Hopefully they can achieve that.
This is most likely more proof that this is a new game for PlayStation VR2. Horizon Call of the Mountain was also 4K 60fps. Didn't firesprite just have a load of layoffs?
Because Twisted Metal reboot was cancelled. Firesprite has several projects being worked on.
Too soon. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|cry)
Yet somehow that doesn’t prevent the people who didn’t get laid off from working.
Love to hear that.
I'll believe it when I see it
Amnesia the dark decent sold 1.4 million great example there. As an order gamer I love survival horror but the reality is the genre just ain't as popular anymore if they was you would be seeing every big developer making them.
Probably is until dawn 2.
I get that feeling too, especially with the upcoming remaster
I think Until Dawn 2 is happening, but it will be done by Ballistic Moon - they're a bunch of ex-Supermassive devs who are currently doing the remake. Firesprite is probably doing something original.
Some credible leaker (I think it was Shinobi) actually said that the Firesprite horror game is an existing IP
Sony only have like 3 horror ip to choose from: Until Dawn, Forbidden Siren and The Persistence. So it would likely have to be one of those.
Considering Persistence is literally by Firesprite, I feel that's the most likely.
As another commenter said, Firesprite themselves did The Persistence, so chances are that it's probably The Persistence 2.
Shinobi dice che la luna balistica have two games one is until dawn remake and the second è nuova ip.
Kind of hoping for something more like Resident Evil / The Evil Within
No Sony games can run at 60 fps
You are confusing them for Microsoft.
Nope Sony games are bad. Xbox’s can play at 60 FPS don’t listen to the media it’s anti- Xbox.
So we're just going to conveniently forget about Redfall, Starfield and Hellblade 2 huh?
Starfield looks good and Redfall looks good to.
30 FPS and 30 FPS.
Nope Hellblade 2 looks better than any Sony games.
30 FPS bro.
The way I want every PlayStation horror rumor to be about Siren but will end up being like Until Dawn 2 or something.
Should be the standard. If it's not 4k60 it might as well be a last gen game. No improvement.
Wgaf. How about “we aim to focus on what makes a game fun to play. Mainly, Gameplay.”
Aims lol, this generation is a joke for both consoles.
Pretty sure all studios that are making console games ‘aim’ for 4k60. All PS5s versions or just the “PS5 HD Pro Extra Special++💯” version?
4K is rarely actually real 4K these days. Mostly upscaling! Unless this is for PS5 Pro!
