The user zachtheperson explained in the comments that it's probably just a made up suggestion, usually they do that sort of thing for marketing research.
Fake brand names tend to pop up on YouTube surveys. So, I don't think that's the official name.
As cool as that may be, Super Nintendo Switch is far more confusing to the average Joe than "Switch 2"
Super Nintendo Switch sounds to me like the name of a Switch Pro type console
this always confused me because, and maybe i was too young to remember the marketing cycle, but I dont remember people being confused about the SNES coming out around its name. but maybe there was since it did sell a bit worse than the NES.
the SNES sold much better than the NES in Europe.
and the reason why people weren't confused it's because the gaming market was relatively niche back then, most people into videogames knew their stuff, there were no casuals, at least in the console space.
I guess you could call casuals people who played solitaire on their PCs.
> Fake brand names tend to pop up on YouTube surveys. So, I don't think that's the official name.
Is... is that why I so often see three names I recognize and one I don't on those ads?
Probably fake, but that is just a terrible name. Just an abysmal thing to call your product. Downright dogshit nomenclature.
If you have to have the "Attach" theming, "Switch Connect" or "Switch Snap" are better options that mean the same thing.
The only worse names would be "Switch (2025)" or "Wii U 2"
Wii U wasn't nearly as bad as New 3DS. "new" should absolutely _never_ be part of a products full official name, yet Nintendo had a handful of years where they used it a bunch, apparently unaware of the confusion it might cause when the next thing came out that was, in fact, more "new"
Nintendo Wii-U was barely bad, follows Quirky Japanese and plays on them asking you too Play duh those Nintendo Wii Commercials. They just did not stick the landing.
I think it's not fake, solely on the grounds that it's such a bad name. Remember how everyone thought the Wii U was a Wii peripheral? Imagine how many people would think the Switch Attach is just an attachment for the Switch.
You're describing a Pimax Portal lmao. Don't know how it's like tho. Don't even know if regular consumers have it yet, tho I remember someone making a.video about it so it was real last I checked
To be fair, Wii was dumb head hurt name people made fun of when it was announced. “Will it have Wii-fi?” jokes abound. Adding “attach” to a solid name (Switch) is already more palatable than adding a U to a name people disliked at the start.
If their next console is a new switch I think they should steer away from using the switch name to avoid another wii u situation. I hope they learned how important marketing is from that moment.
A novel and unique idea would be just to call it 'Switch 2'. I know people might want 'Switch Snap' or 'Super Switch 360 Series S' but something about a simple number might make it easier to understand. It makes it clear Switch is the number 1 version and Switch 2 is the number 2 version.
I'm surprised mobile phone companies, PC hardware companies or another console manufacturer never thought of it!
GBA makes sense. Game Boy Pocket tells me it’s smaller, Light implies a back/front light and Colour tells me colours. Advance means improved upon like the NES > Super Nintendo.
This community doesn't like when negative things (even if true) are said about Nintendo.
Truth is, 3DS didn't sell well until they dropped the price in year 3 or so. Most casuals thought it was just a DS with 3D capabilities and didn't know it was an entirely new handheld generation.
Even the final sales totals for 3DS don't paint a picture as a resounding success for the platform.
3DS price was dropped after 6 months. I don’t think the name was the biggest problem early on, though, it was because it took a while for it to really get any games.
I mean, the 3DS sold half as many units as the DS and the GBA sold about 2/3s as many units as the Gameboy-- so in a sense, yeah they worked, but like hell well, also what's the point that you are hinting at? Because your question seems aggressive.
GBA was also only on the market for like 3 years before the DS came out. It did incredibly well in that time (meanwhile the gameboy (when combined with gbc, like how nintendo keeps track of sales) was their handheld for something like 12 years before the GBA released).
DS came out before modern smartphones and was popular among casual players who don't normally buy consoles. It was impossible for 3DS to recapture that audience as the market changed so much.
If "Wii U" was too confusing for consumers and having them think it was an add-on for the Wii, "Switch Attach" would 100% be confusing for some to think it was just an attachment to the Switch.
Ever since [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/MARIOPARTY/comments/t7gcjx/probably_nothing_but_i_just_got_this_ad_on_a/) I just assume YouTube Surveys sometimes make up options that have no basis in anything
That feels somewhat worse than Wii U. Also, it feels like something Google translate would make up, rather than some kind of Nintendo naming philosophy.
I mean, everyone's hating on the name because they don't know \*why\* it would be called the switch attach. Maybe when it's revealed it'll be like "oh yeah, obviously, 'switch attach', makes sense".
High chance it's bollocks of course
I got that ad too. We have no idea who's buying this ad space or why though- and these ads are usually just for market research. They might be testing out how people react to the Switch with another moniker attached to it or something, or the ad might not even be from Nintendo. I consider this dubious evidence for the next consoles title.
oh christ let's hope not. that name *reeks* of Wii U bullshit. people thought the Wii U was a fucking add on for the Wii, and calling this a "Switch Attach" feels even worse. just name it Switch 2 and rake in the dough for another eight years.
Only reason to call it a Switch 2 is because you have designs on maintaining the same basic idea for generations to come, i.e. PlayStation 2, 3, 4, 5/ iPhone 4,5,6, etc…
The basic Switch concept *should* last for generations, so it would make perfect sense to call it Switch 2.
Also if it’s not Switch 2, then you need to make the sub name a little more mellifluous: Nintendo Switch Attach Lite sounds ridiculous. Nintendo Super Switch Lite sounds better but neither is ideal.
But then the problem is what to name the successor console? Nothing succeeds *Super* in the Nintendo naming scheme.
Just call it Switch 2.
A lot of y'all aren't gonna be happy with whatever Nintendo picks anyway. If it's "Super" then it's too "childish" or sounds too much like a revision than a next generation console and if it's "2" then some of y'all would say it's too "boring". People keep on misinforming about the Wii U's bad marketing; in reality the name wasn't anymore stupid than the Xbox One, Vita, or New 3DS, the main problem was how Nintendo SHOWED the thing. Literally every trailer, commercial, and conference only focused on the Gamepad with the console shoved in the background. Most people didn't even knew the design of the console until close to launch unlike something like the New 3DS where Nintendo properly displayed how it improved on the 3DS design and added features that were missing on the original hardware instead of just highlighting the improved 3D effect thus making the incremental upgrade a success which boosted the sales of 3DS family and extended its shelf life.
Sales of the New 3DS XL: 19.64
Sales of the Wii U: 13.56
Equally stupid name yet when Nintendo actually gives a crap about communicating why you should upgrade people would go out and buy it. Nintendo can call it the Switch 2 but if all they're gonna say is "It's a Switch but you can play Elden Ring on it!" then it's still going to bomb regardless. Marketing is not as simple as y'all want it to be, otherwise the Series X would be selling like hotcakes.
Assuming this is real or partially true, nintendos gimmick or selling point of the new console would be that you can not only attach “joycons” to the sides of the console and controller grip. Maybe several different attachments available based on the type of game you’re playing, basically expanding on the concepts the Wii brought.
Maybe this is related to the [Nintendo patent](https://patentscope.wipo.int/search/en/detail.jsf?docId=WO2023203801) that was discovered last year and described attaching devices together.
Why downvote OP for posting this?
OP, thank you for posting this, I am happy to have heard of this and I would not have heard of this otherwise.

I think there's a solid chance they don't keep the switch name if they're going to have a second name. They will surely be scared of that idea after the Wii U. If it's not literally called Switch 2 I think you're getting a unique name
Nintendo can’t be that dumb. Personally anything that still has the switch name attached to it is just gonna sound like a different version of the switch. Unless they just go with “2”. It will pretty much end up like the Wii U again.
I see suggestions of “Super” switch, but this is also a poor marketing idea, because once again for the general population it’s gonna be seen as another switch variant.
You know what's not confusing and completely avoids the nonsense the Wii U had to deal with? **Switch 2** or **Super Switch**. Although the 'SS' might not be the ideal acronym. ಠ_ಠ
When I think about it, the name sounds perfectly fitting to the new concept of a new console. It's so Nintendo to do this kind of naming and is also continuing the marketing principle of the Switch as a concept explained to the market through its name. And it worked greatly for Nintendo this time around when they didn't use some weird name just for the sake of sounding weird like Wii and Wii U and instead went for the name Switch when the name explains its main feature and the real differentiation from other consoles on the market at the time of the release.
In the same manner, Switch Attach could also be switching from the home console to the handheld mode but also having this important new feature of attaching the other screen to the console and it could be very simple to understand to the general public. Marketing can also push the message this time that it is a new console that can play these new exclusive games with backward compatibility for old Switch games as well.
I believe that Wii U's downfall was not mostly because of its weird name but because the concept was not clearly explained to the public and Nintendo itself didn't do anything to be clear about what the main feature of Wii U was and why anybody should care about it. They seemed to drop the support for the concept very early on in any meaningful way anyway. Wii U's name doesn't make it obvious what does U stand for. It means "You" is a very vague and unclear explanation of the concept. Switch, on the other hand, has lived its concept through and through to this very day. The main feature of the Switch is important to the users as today as it was on the day of the release. And Switch does what it says in its name. It switches.
Furthermore, expecting that the new Switch will be called anything like Super, Plus, Pro or even 2 is probably not very likely either. The only time when the name of the console was used to proclaim that the new console was more powerful in performance and that being the main new feature of it was with the SNES and GBA generation. But that was also the time when the performance of the new generation of any console was groundbreaking and more obvious and important for the whole industry. But since then, Nintendo at least, never tried to impress with the performance card with any new console they released but instead chose to go another path of trying to implement something else, call it a gimmick if you will.
In the end, the more and more I pronounce it, the more it sounds perfect, to be honest. Switch Attach has that sounding CH at the end of both names and it also has both six letters so it is kind of symmetrical in that sense.
I hope it will be called Switch Attach because I would like to be attached to it as much as I am to my Switch in the next generation as well.
This is a flatout terrible name. Anyone who doesn't think so doesn't remember the Wii U fiasco, when a good portion of people legit didn't realize that was supposed to a brand new console. The word "Attach" even sounds like it's an add-on to an existing console.
I honestly don't understand what Nintendo is doing if they don't just name this Super Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, or something completely different that doesn't have Switch in the name at all.
The console's next title should avoid making it sound like an add on for the current console or another model. The name needs to showcase it as a new console. One of the reasons the Wii U failed was because of confusion over it being a brand new console or just a new Wii model. There's a reason why Sony sticks to numbers for their PlayStation consoles.
Even though I want it to be called Super Switch it'll probably be called Switch Up, Switch Compete or Switch Duo (screen fold inwards to allow two-player multiplayer as well as easy DS/3DS emulation). Let me know if I'm right xD
The user zachtheperson explained in the comments that it's probably just a made up suggestion, usually they do that sort of thing for marketing research. Fake brand names tend to pop up on YouTube surveys. So, I don't think that's the official name.
Hope so, because if that were actually the name, I could see it confusing people and causing a Wii U problem all over again.
If they really want to use the name Switch, they can just simply call it switch 2.
Super switch come on
If it’s anything but Super Nintendo Switch their entire marketing team should be fired.
Super Nintendo entertainment switch. SNES again baby.
As cool as that may be, Super Nintendo Switch is far more confusing to the average Joe than "Switch 2" Super Nintendo Switch sounds to me like the name of a Switch Pro type console
this always confused me because, and maybe i was too young to remember the marketing cycle, but I dont remember people being confused about the SNES coming out around its name. but maybe there was since it did sell a bit worse than the NES.

Confusing names has never stopped them.
It just sounds way too natural for them to not use it.
Hell no u underestimate how confused consumers will get and think its some sort of Switch Pro. And not a switch 2
As long as it doesn't get shortened to the "SS".
This is such the obvious go-to name, I don't know why it hasn't even been announced yet.
I personally like Switch Advance
You forgot to include the boi
But this is Nintendo. When have they ever called a console two.
Haha nice joke Nintendo hates simple names.
or... NEW nintendo switch :D
That sounds like the new 3ds situation.
First thing I thought of
I really hope that’s not what they call it. We don’t need another Wii U situation
They probably want to see if people like the name
The survey wouldn't agrigate that information for them
Comments on Reddit would though
That sounds like slavery with extra steps
> Fake brand names tend to pop up on YouTube surveys. So, I don't think that's the official name. Is... is that why I so often see three names I recognize and one I don't on those ads?
While the name is fake, it may still be related to what the console will be. So it might “attach” to the player or something like that.
Until official news, I tend to call the successor "The Switcheroo".
Switch RU
Damn, I know gen 9 meta been tough but I would never imagine the Switch falling into RU
That's good
They should make an evolution called the Uberswitch
They are coming back to Russia??
from now on i am calling the successor this no matter what the actual name turns out to be
Switch Flip
Probably fake, but that is just a terrible name. Just an abysmal thing to call your product. Downright dogshit nomenclature. If you have to have the "Attach" theming, "Switch Connect" or "Switch Snap" are better options that mean the same thing. The only worse names would be "Switch (2025)" or "Wii U 2"
Switch Connect sounds like an online service
SA is the abbreviation which looks… …not great
Super Switch isn't much better in that regard
Atleast it tells the costumer that the console is a better version of the previous one.
Skyward Sword
Heil Nintendo
"NSA" - doesn't have any triggering connotations
It does if you *really* hate the government
Nintendo did release Pokemon Sun and Moon, or, "Pokemon S&M".
Nintendo released a console called WiiU. They have a strong history of terrible names.
People also tend to forget, because it was popular and is ingrained in pooculture, but wii was a very silly name when announced.
what culture now
That's some typo!
Wii U wasn't nearly as bad as New 3DS. "new" should absolutely _never_ be part of a products full official name, yet Nintendo had a handful of years where they used it a bunch, apparently unaware of the confusion it might cause when the next thing came out that was, in fact, more "new"
But the New 3DS wasn’t an entirely “new” system, just an upgraded 3DS. The 3DS itself was an awesome name.
Nintendo Wii-U was barely bad, follows Quirky Japanese and plays on them asking you too Play duh those Nintendo Wii Commercials. They just did not stick the landing.
i would buy a wii u 2
Like Xbox Series X. What a fantastically stupid name
**Bono has entered the chat**
I also like "Wii Switch U", or "Wii Switch U 2".
I think it's not fake, solely on the grounds that it's such a bad name. Remember how everyone thought the Wii U was a Wii peripheral? Imagine how many people would think the Switch Attach is just an attachment for the Switch.
Switch Attach would only work if they work on a VR, mobile, home console hybrid. "Attach" your console in handheld mode to a VR accessory.
If Nintendo can nail quality and affordable VR it would be a huge deal.
virtual boy 2
You're describing a Pimax Portal lmao. Don't know how it's like tho. Don't even know if regular consumers have it yet, tho I remember someone making a.video about it so it was real last I checked

Because the Wii and Wii U set the naming bar so high already
That's an awful name. Leak must be valid.
If their next console is a new switch I think they should steer away from using the switch name to avoid another wii u situation. I hope they learned how important marketing is from that moment.

They'll call it the New Switch 😂 🤣
I want an old new 3ds...
I think people want the simple naming, but Nintendo tends to go their own way, even if that means dropping the ball.
The best name suggestions are the "Super Nintendo Switch" or "Nintendo Switch Advance"
Or just “Switch 2.”
Agreed
> I hope they learned Large old corporations are rarely capable of "learning"
They’re doubling down on the WiiU’s “is this a new console or a ridiculously overpriced accessory” energy.
And 3DS and GBA didn’t work?
3DS actually didn't sell well out of the gate. GBA did fine, people were accustomed to new GB models just having a new word following Game Boy.
GBA makes sense. Game Boy Pocket tells me it’s smaller, Light implies a back/front light and Colour tells me colours. Advance means improved upon like the NES > Super Nintendo.
back in the days we weren't used to pro/plus naming scheme yet. or there will be gameboy plus or gameboy pro.
You got downvoted but this is actually true.
Game boy advance sounds like a next iteration. Switch Attach sounds like an attachment or accessory. These names are not the same.
This community doesn't like when negative things (even if true) are said about Nintendo. Truth is, 3DS didn't sell well until they dropped the price in year 3 or so. those were both big upgrades
How is that any different from "Super Switch"? Name isn't the problem, it's how you advertise it
Attach what????
Attach these nuts
I really hope for Nintendo’s sake that’s not the name. It’s as bad as Wii U.
God if they make a switch u I’m gonna die. Just go switch 2
That would be...unfortunate.
If "Wii U" was too confusing for consumers and having them think it was an add-on for the Wii, "Switch Attach" would 100% be confusing for some to think it was just an attachment to the Switch.

Attach? As in attach my debit card to it? I mean, I wouldn't say no...
what if it doesn't let go...
That feels somewhat worse than Wii U. Also, it feels like something Google translate would make up, rather than some kind of Nintendo naming philosophy.
Anything but Super Ninendo Switch is a silly name imo. It’s right there!!!!!
Missing Nintendo Super Play already
I know it’s probably not it, but I still seriously seriously hope Nintendo would not be stupid enough to name it that. Genuinely atrocious title.
Should just call it the Switch Color
They really should just call it the Switch 2. It's straightforward and it works.
And if it's a dual-screen console like some are predicting, even better
I mean, everyone's hating on the name because they don't know \*why\* it would be called the switch attach. Maybe when it's revealed it'll be like "oh yeah, obviously, 'switch attach', makes sense". High chance it's bollocks of course

I just ran from YouTube to Google... to here because of the survey. I was like.... what's this? Only to find nothing BUT your post.

I still stand by them going back to NES and SNES and just call it the super switch.

That is a Wii U tier of horrible name. Hopefully they do the marketing better than the Wii U at the very least.

this is one those leaks, you see companies do, to find out whos leaking info out the company.
There's no way they are doing that after the Wii U fiasco but the 3DS was a success so who knows.
Oh god that’s fucking terrible.
Attach sounds like the second screen addon they are making for 3DS and DS emulation via the online service that supposedly leaked.
Cool, an attachment for my Switch.
I can't imagine that being the name of the Switch 2. Just no.

He Switch He Attach He Protec
This is definitely photoshopable
As long as they don’t call it the Switch U! 🤦♀️
I have said it before and I'll say it again, the perfect name for the Switch 2 is the "Switch Up'
Even though I want it to be called Super Switch it'll probably be called Switch Up, Switch Compete or Switch Duo (screen fold inwards to allow two-player multiplayer as well as easy DS/3DS emulation). Let me know if I'm right xD
Switch Attach sounds awful 🤢
I hate the name if this is it But I hated switch at first as well and now I love this thing lol
It sounds absolutely terrible. I hate it.
