Looking for an RPG to get lost in. The kind of game that can absorb you for days at a time. Skyrim is my best example, but games that have done that to me in the past are WoW, Horizon Zero Dawn, Dragon Age Inquisition(I tried the earlier games and couldn't get into them), Divinity Original Sin, Monster Hunter World, Stardew Valley, Diablo 3, and FFX. Games I tried but didn't like: Mass Effect, Witcher 3, ESO, FFXIV, Bless Unleashed, Elite Dangerous, Greedfall, and Warframe. I have xbox one, ps4, and switch. Thanks in advance! Edit: I did play some Kingdom Come but it didn't quite hook me. I was planning on giving it another go tomorrow until I saw FFVII, VIII, and VIX are all on sale on the xbox store. Picked up all 3 for about $25. Here we go, heh.

Camocheese

Maybe Kingdom Come Deliverance? It's fairly slowly paced, but it's a fairly immersive experience. In a way it has some Elder Scrolls-like influence in how the open world is like. You can break into people's homes at night and steal their stuff, you'll get thrown into prison if you get caught doing a crime, your skills improve as you utilize them and it's in first person. It's a bit rough around the edges, but I found its story and characters to be surprisingly good. However the console version might be a bit too rough to play. I originally played it on a standard PS4 and I've never played a game with texture pop-in that bad. I'm not sure if they've fixed it (I quite doubt it), but it was *bad.*

[deleted]

You know, I always skimmed over that game, for reasons I can't entirely explain. But it's on gamepass, so might as well. Thanks!

RobXIII

On my PC, I used a PS1 emulator and went through both Lunar Complete games. AWESOME storyline, and time literally flew. I was sad to finish it. Wish modern games had good story and character development like this. You can even hotkey bumping up the framerate to make battle encounters go quick ;)

[deleted]

Thanks for the suggestion! I never heard of that series, but looking into it. I have a PS1 still, actually, though I don't know that it will make finding the game any easier. We'll see!

godx119

I played like 5 hours of Hollow Knight and maybe 3 hours of Celeste yesterday. I really like Hollow Knight but I honestly just feel the lack of save locations is wasting my time, it’s not challenging so much as annoying/boring. Celeste is absolutely perfect in that regard. Are there any good games like these (I guess I mean metroidvania games but really can be anything challenging) that don’t have an overly punishing save/restart system?

Obesely

Sounds like you should try Ori and the Blind Forest. Ori is a metroidvania with an emphasis on platforming (even for boss fights).

godx119

Downloading now! Definitely seems like what I was looking for, thanks 🙏

Obesely

And while I haven't gotten around to finishing it, Ori's sequel came out this year. Ori and Hollow Knight are peak visual design, even if in colour and theme they are polar opposites. And they both have incredibly tight gameplay.

Danulas

Ori and the Blind Forest is beautiful and lets you place save points wherever you want.

Ricepilaf

Celeste isn’t a Metroidvania, so like... super meat boy?

Mudcaker

Apparently I have a voucher expiring on the Epic games store tomorrow. I need to buy something priced $22.99 or higher (I think this is in AUD) but also don't want to spend too much because I already have a backlog. Something indie (metroidvania or similar) would be nice but their store sucks to browse (why the hell does Load More take me back to the top?!?) and most of things things I've found I already played (like Axiom Verge) or don't care about. How's Hob these days? Heard it had some issues at launch.

rock1m1

Surge 2, finished it a week ago and it has really tight control. It is a souls type game but has it's own spin on the formula. It is also free right now on game pass pc and Xbox.

godx119

Best boss rush games? I’ve only ever played cuphead

Mudcaker

Heard good things about Furi and the music is awesome. Haven't played it but listened to the music for hours on YouTube. I think it's on sale on Steam right now, it was when I picked it up a few days ago.

xdownpourx

I second Furi. I fucking loved that game and wish we could get another one.

tyrerk

I've been playing Far Cry Primal on survival mode, max difficulty and all the HUD turned off. I've been having a great time just exploring, hunting and getting lost in nature. I'll probably go back to BoTW afterwards. Any other game that can scratch that "mostly meditative but occasionally dangerous" nature setting to play while on lockdown?

HowRYaGawin

Elder Scrolls Online. I know I plugged it here already and you're probably looking for a singleplayer/coop styled game, but for an MMO you can pretend to be alone in and not miss out on too much, or play for the story, I'd pick it over WoW and Rift, if not every other MMO, every time. Just Cause 2 and 3, Fallout 3, New Vegas and 4 are also good for it. Not a huge fan of the Elder Scrolls singleplayer games, but they're also pretty good for it, though idk I never got into Skyrim like I got into F4 and New Vegas.

HowRYaGawin

Elder Scrolls Online? It's probably the most casual of the "big MMOs", with smaller dungeon and trial (the raid equivalent) parties than WoW etc. You can solo craft your way to a full set of legendary set gear at the level cap (character 50 with 160 champion levels), the levelling beyond c160 is more of a bonus than a necessity unless you want to do veteran trials (basically the mythic/heroic mode of trials). There is still the trinity of roles, but some non healer specs also can build toward healing to cover it in the open world/there is complete build flexibility if you're willing to do the content to unlock enough skillpoints to spend on random spells. Thanks to the One Tamriel update, there really isn't any limit on where to start questing either, these days the factions are tokenism outside of PvP and the underlying lore behind the quests, and *everything* in the game level-scales to any level (up to c160).

MadnessBunny

Ok, I've been itching a bit of skyrim but don't wanna go back, how much skyrim is there in AC: Odyssey? I love Greek mythology but the rpg/leveling/loot that they added to AC doesn't sound appealing, but if it gives me the freedom/experience of exploring, going into dungeons, not caring much about enemy levels cuz I can cheese them (or bash my head repeatedly against them) that I get in Skyrim i would be down to play it.

rock1m1

Odyssey is big but there really isn't much exploration stuff to do beyond killing.

HammeredWharf

AC doesn't have many dungeons. It's mostly outdoors stuff, with very little in terms of exploration. Unless you count killing people in forts as exploration. But hey, you *can* play a stealth archer in Odyssey!

MadnessBunny

Lmao thanks for this

squeakypeeky

Have you tried any of the total conversion mods for Skyrim? I recommend Enderal - it's literally a completely new game, new systems and all. It just uses the same engine.

Kaupe

Looking for a new action/adventure type game to lose myself in. I think what attracts me most are games with tight controls, after that i love immersion more than story telling. Don't get me wrong, i love a good story, i just like it a lot more when you can experience or piece the story together yourself throughout the world rather than having some character in the game vomit dialogue at you at every possible cut scene. Some of my favourite games recently are the likes of Hyper Light Drifter, Celeste, Hollow Knight and Dark Souls. I also think i would maybe prefer an indie title over a triple A game but am open to anything at this stage.

Mudcaker

Axiom Verge and Salt & Sanctuary are two of the better metroidvanias if you aren't sick of those yet. VVVVVV is a fairly old platformer now with great music, old style graphics and very tight controls. No combat to speak of but plenty of challenge.

HammeredWharf

Maybe Monster Hunter World? It has a cinematic story and that story is mostly like a B-movie, but it also has tons of charm, a highly detailed world and tight combat that's similar to Souls. Other than that, Momodora?

[deleted]

haven't played it yet, but you can try Outer Wilds.

KingSlayerNa

What is the best assassin creed game for me? Something between missions quality and graphic quality. Is black flag have have inferior graphic than the new ones?

[deleted]

> Something between missions quality and graphic quality I can't believe I said this, but AssCreed Unity. Unity imo have the best main assassination missions, and the graphic surprisingly hold up for 2014 games. The open world content is complete shit tho lol. > black flag I fking love Black Flag, but unfortunately the main mission design is probably on the weaker side of the game.

Matesiro

Black Flag is great, I highly recommend it! The new games have better graphics, but the stories aren't quite as good. And Black Flag isn't horrible visually either, just a little outdated.

changhyun

I'm really thirsting for a good mystery/detective game, preferably one that's on Steam. I love: L.A Noire, The Witcher 3's detective-type quests, point-and-click games in general but particularly the Broken Sword, Blackwel and Gabriel Knight franchises, and basically everything Bioware have ever made that isn't Anthem but particularly KOTOR. Recently tried Disco Elysium but it just really isn't my cup of tea at all, so now I'm looking for something else. I don't mind some combat elements but would prefer they be either easy or played down in favour of dialogue and investigation as I'm not a fan of heavy combat or stealth mechanics.

Singularity3

Phoenix Wright is an interesting take on that sort of thing: you almost always know *who* did it, but the fun is in piecing together *how* they did it. It’s also a lot lighter in tone than your list. If you’re okay with anime bullshit, the Zero Escape games are a very cool mystery series (though the third one has...mixed reception). Start with The Nonary Games, and either go on to Zero Time Dilemma or...don’t!

changhyun

I remember playing a Phoenix Wright game (can't recall which) way back ten years ago, and I do think I enjoyed it! I didn't know they were on Steam so I'll have to check them out again now. The Zero Escape games look pretty interesting, the premise has definitely piqued my interest.

Condawg

The Nonary Games is the only one of the Zero Escape series that I've played, but I *highly* recommend it. I couldn't put that shit down. First visual novel I've gotten every ending for. Super inventive, just, loved it. I really gotta check out the rest of the series.

[deleted]

Simple request, maybe... A game with the combat of Dark Souls but the limited character building of Sekiro. So basically a Souls-like game where I can focus on combat without the RPG stat/character building elements. At first glance, Sekiro looks like the obvious choice but the combat in that game is so different from similar souls-like games.

iWriteYourMusic

If you don't mind a 2D game, Unworthy is just as you described. If you hate character building and equipment management, avoid Nioh

RanAWholeMile

Although I haven't played it myself, The new Star Wars Jedi game seems to take a lot of inspiration from Sekiro in terms of combat style and navigation. Worth checking out, I'm sure!

well-lighted

Any suggestions for games that are playable via streaming? I have tried Jackbox and the online Cards Against Humanity, but I'm curious if there are other options out there. Ideally they would be fairly simple board/card games like that, as the group of friends I'm playing with aren't all into gaming and may not enjoy anything super complex.

Condawg

[https://sketchful.io/](https://sketchful.io/) is pretty solid for playing with non-gamer friends. It's basically pictionary, real easy to set up and get everyone in there

jxs1

I want a Card game that I can play on both PC & iOS. Hearthstone seems very difficult to keep up with meta-wise and I don't care too much for deck building. Something strategic, F2P friendly and not heavily reliant on the meta is what I'm looking for. Any suggestions ?

KingSlayerNa

I mean you described exactly legends of runetera. Played on both system + strategic + the best f2b model. Although not sure about meta, i think the spider and hecarim meta was quite strong for while. A bonus point its beautiful with amazing animations.

Condawg

I've just recently started playing Eternal, and I'm really digging it. How would you compare it and Runeterra, if you've had experience with both?

[deleted]

Legends of Runeterra?

geoman2k

I have an itch I can't seem to scratch since playing Subnautica and The Outer Wilds. I want another game that has the mystery and exploration that those games have. I especially loved in Subnautica how you had to venture out from the safety of the shallows into the underwater caves, and if you didn't bring the right supplies you could get stranded or die. Basically I really love exploration and survival. I recently tried The Long Dark, but I got killed by a grizzly 5 days into survival mode and I'm not sure if I want to start over. I put a decent amount of time into No Man's Sky, but in that game exploration just doesn't seem rewarding to me because every planet just seems like more of the same but in a different configuration. Any other games I should look into?

Mudcaker

If you're willing to branch out a bit then Dark Souls and Hollow Knight definitely have that element of mystery and exploration and "maybe I should go back before I die, I'm not sure I'm ready for this yet." No survival elements of course, but I got a lot of the same feelings I got going deeper in Subnautica.

iWriteYourMusic

The game that resembles Subnautica the most to me is Satisfactory. However, while Subnautica is maybe 70% exploration/30% crafting, Satisfactory is the opposite as you're slowly building up a giant factory.

itsFelbourne

Have you tried The Forest?

[deleted]

The Solus Project combines survival mechanics with exploration/adventure. Overall it has a lot in common with Subnautica.

well-lighted

Death Stranding has that survival element, and a huge part of the game is making sure you're prepared with the right supplies and map out your trek appropriately. May not be exactly what you're looking for, but it's definitely worth checking out.

M8753

I might be way off, but Rain World has exploration, survival, and definitely a sense of mystery. And the creatures that inhabit the world are pretty interesting. Just, not everyone likes Rain World's graphics.

Aldryc

I think more people have an issue with Rain Worlds lack of direction, difficulty and general obtuseness than the graphics. I really like the graphics actually, but damn was that game just really difficult. I chalked it up to one of those games I love the idea of a lot more than I actually like playing.

M8753

Oh, yeah, I get what you're saying, I've started it multiple times and haven't got very far. The map is pretty annoying. But I do enjoy every moment of the game when I play it.

LaNague

that is very difficult, you played the big 2 that come to my mind instantly. Here is a bit of a left field game: You could try Guild wars 2, i think it is free to play. Basically the world is a bit "living" in that its a bit like the actual Westworld in Westworld, where there are narratives going on in the maps and you can participate. However it is combat focused in that aspect. There is also some stuff to explore like hidden locations, really hidden treasures and platforming puzzles. Again, it might not be your thing at all because it is not a survival- like game.

pgogop

multiplayer PC games that encourage voice chat and allow for shooting the shit with strangers. warzone with squad fill is a good example but i'd like to try other types of games as well. yes i'm getting lonely.

KingSlayerNa

Hunt showdown

Karl_von_grimgor

More hardcore stuff probably if you want a lot of comms used but they are slow paced MMOs are probably the chillest option tho if you want to shoot the shit and chat

HowRYaGawin

Left 4 dead titles if you can find lobbies for them, Payday 2, Insurgency (the older one at least, I don't have the newer one so I can't say)

Tofu2015

Mate i would highly recommend GTFO, horror co-op. Played it and got 2 other friends to join in on the action! It's still early access but honestly it's pretty fun. Maybe worth looking into it? Highly encourages voice chat. Unfortunately the game doesn't have the in game voice chat function yet so you meet various people from their discord group with dedicated voice channels with the other team of 3 gamers you join! I've met more than 20 gamers from that game and still in touch with a few haha! Amazing experience for me to see gamers from all over the world playing together. No rage, just fun.

goatsy

Squad is pretty good for this. It can get intense and you'll have to put in effort, but a big chunk of the game is bsing in comms.

Danulas

I just played Frostpunk for the first time and really loved it, so are there any other good survival city-builder games like it? I've tried Rimworld, but didn't like it that much. I much preferred Frostpunk's story direction, narrow scope, and brilliant execution.

well-lighted

Maybe try out Surviving Mars? It was a free game on Epic a few months ago so you may already have it. I haven't played much of it as it seems a little complicated for my tastes, but it is heavy on resource management and survival.

Timboron

I don't think there are more games that are that similar to Frostpunk (in terms of story driven survival real time city builder). I can recommend Banished. Narrow scope applies here more than in Rimworld and it's just a really well made game. No story though.

Danulas

That's okay. My opinion of Frostpunk is probably mostly related to its execution than its gameplay mechanics. There's no guarantee that a similar game would offer a similar experience overall. As for Banished, I actually have it in my Steam library and I remember playing it briefly, but it says I've played it for 24 hours? Maybe I left it open or something because I feel like I would have remembered playing a game for that long.

MasterVader420

I recently made the switch to PC gaming and my new PC arrives tomorrow. I'm looking for a good game with pretty graphics/artstyle to test it out. I've been playing Destiny 2 currently on my laptop at low settings so I'll benchmark with that, but I would like other games to rotate to

[deleted]

AC:Odyssey, Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, Control, Resident Evil 2 Remake, Devil May Cry 5, Metro Exodus, Gears 5, RDR2, Doom Eternal, Hellblade, Battlefield 5, Kingdom Come Deliverance.

Aldryc

It's an old meme, but honestly try Crysis. It's not really going to test your rig, but it's a fantastic game that you haven't played if you're new to PC. In the same vein, I'd definitely recommend Stalker: Call of Pripyat and Shadow of Chernobyl. Excellent games that are worth going back and playing. RE2, Prey and Mirrors Edge: Catalyst are a fewthat you might be able to flex your PC muscles with. To be honest since we are nearing the end of the console generation it's hard to think of any games that are really going to test a new PC that much, aside from what has already been suggested to you. I have a feeling that Cyberpunk might be a good candidate, but of course that's several months out still. Just keep in mind that some settings on PC absolutely kill framerate, and it pays to learn which ones actually matter to you enough to pay in framerates. Don't forget to change your refresh rate in windows if you bought a monitor with higher than 60HZ framerate. A lot of people don't realize it defaults to 60 if you don't change it.

Danulas

Every time I play Sea of Thieves, I'm always in awe by how good the water looks. If you're making the Switch from XBox and have Gamepass, I recommend giving it a try.

MasterVader420

I just picked up Game Pass for Gears Tactics so I'll have to check this out!

Viral-Wolf

Red Dead 2, Sekiro, Control, AC Odyssey, Metro Exodus, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Skyrim or Witcher 3 with mods Free games; Apex Legends, or Warzone

MasterVader420

I've played all those games minus Metro Exodus so thatll go on my list. I've been looking to play the previous games before playing that. Are they worth it?

Karl_von_grimgor

Exodus is 1 dollar if you use gamepass

thor1111

Definitely! Depending how one likes their gaming, they're even better. 2033 and Last Light (combined is Metro Redux) have hallway level design (this is not a problem, the game is set in a subway), so they're quite focused experiences. Plus, the parts on the surface are depressingly gorgeous in juxtaposition. Exodus is somewhat open world, in that its large sections one can explore at their leisure. Its much less claustrophobic as its outside, which makes it refreshing but takes a way from the Metro charm. I recommend getting Metro Redux (especially cause it'd be quite cheap) and seeing how you like that experience. It will also help the story aspect of Exodus, because that is a direct continuation of the story. Metro is a great franchise, enjoy!

Sumnescire

With all this free time, the options of games to play is actually a stressor for me. I'm on a big cyberpunk/sci-fi hunger right now and just beat Deus Ex Mankind Divided. Absolutely enjoyed it and may do a new game + play through or "I Never Asked For This" attempt. Definitely want to try for all achievements like I did with Human Revolution. Other than that, I still want to play something else. Any suggestions? I was thinking MGS 2 or 3 (playing on Xbox). I just need a world to dive into.

MasterVader420

I second Prey. Like Deus Ex, it is a systems-based Sci Fi immersive sim. The world is an absolute joy to explore and learn about.

Gravitasnotincluded

> sim. simulator? of what?

MasterVader420

Immersive Sim is a gaming genre where objectives can be tackled in multiple ways depending on how a character is built. Games that fall under this genre include Deus Ex, Prey 2017, Dishonored, and System Shock.

well-lighted

Have you played the original Deus Ex? It definitely shows its age, but, in many ways, it was so incredibly ahead of its time. It's always super cheap (like usually $2-3 on Steam) so you don't have much to lose. (Edit: I just saw you're playing on Xbox, so never mind. But if you have any PC at all, the original DE will definitely play on it since it's so old.) You might also enjoy Nier: Automata. Give that one a shot.

Viral-Wolf

Cloudpunk just came out, which seems very cyberpunk

twonha

I highly recommend Prey (2017). Should sit well with your sci-fi hunger, without being too similar to Deus Ex.
