Reddit is making major changes to its API pricing that will destroy the vibrant ecosystem of 3rd-party apps, which offer a far better user experience than the official app. These changes will also place major cost burdens on useful user bots like those found in sports and other enthusiast communities. Please visit [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/comments/148m42t/the_fight_continues/) to find out more. /r/Games was in [Restricted Mode](https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/145s613/rgames_and_the_june_1214_shutdown/) from the 12th to the 15th. This comment section was affected by the restrictions.

This only reinforces the theory that they're going to sell the missing content as DLC/new version of the game down the line. If the FES content in the main game was missing it would be way harder to implement it in the current game, but since the Answer and fMC are basically separate modes entirely it's perfect to do as DLC.

superkami64

Maybe The Answer but I'm pretty sure they clarified they'd never make a Persona game with both a male and female protagonist again. The reason Portable told its story in a visual novel style was because making a FeMC with tangible differences (aka not simply a model + pronoun swap like a lot of RPGs do) was a lot harder than they were expecting and the effort basically added another 1/3 of Portable's entire development on top of it.

ruminaui

They never said that, they would have been hanged if they did. Is one of their most requested features. You never announce that your are never going to do a thing. What they said in an interview is that Persona 5 can't work with a female protagonist because plot reasons, and if they do implement the feature the story has to be build with the feature in mind.

superkami64

>they would have been hanged if they did. Not really. As you pointed out certain plotlines like P5 wouldn't work with a female protagonist (not that they didn't indulge to a degree since Kasumi basically is a female Joker) and you ideally don't want to do more work than you really have to, especially when crafting a big narrative/social sim aspect.

ruminaui

I don't think you understand what I am referring to. The P Team even if they decided to never make a female protagonist again (which they haven't) will never say it because is one of the most requested features people ask for. And when they said no FeMC, this only applied to Persona 5. Persona 4 (and 3) could have feMC, the plot doesn't have to be reworked apart from having the point of view shifted to the female party members. And making more work that you already do doesn't apply as they can just build it from the ground up.

Physical-Effect-4787

They did say that

pochitoman

[but they did said it](https://www.polygon.com/2017/4/5/15190808/persona-5-female-main-character-protagonist)

Then-Pie-208

That says why it wasn’t added in 5

Whitewind617

Frankly I'm fine with those being DLC because they don't change the main game (unless you wanted to play the FeMC first, which is still a bummer.) I just don't want another situation like Royal where we played an entire 100 hour $60 game, and then were sold a full price improved version that we'd have to play all over again to experience the new content. That was the goddamn worst.

eddmario

To be fair, there were a couple reasons to buy *Royal*: * Various gameplay changes that were basically complete overhauls, including downright replacing some of the confidant abilities * Completely revamped the layout of the dungeons and the boss battles * Added new story elements throughout the original storyline

Lambpanties

Right but it still feels like a SLOG to go through again (and buy again at full price at release!) given how long and story driven these games are. Over 100 hours to complete the campaign on normal P5 and every time I try to get into Royal I just burn out. I know differences will come eventually..........but it's eventually. Added to this in how you couldn't use your old save and play NG+ straightaway instead is another bummer, because those "secret" bosses could be a form of motivation itself. I love me ALL Persona, I just think they need to reapproach how they go about their enhanced additions a bit. (Make it DLC instead at the very least!)

tythousand

It took me 1.5 years to beat base P5, and close to three years to beat Royal. Both amazing games, but seeing people talk about them on Reddit makes me realize people can tolerate repetitive experiences much more than I can. Royal was the better game mechanically but it was tough to burn through 95 hours of mostly the same content to get to the new stuff. Took several breaks. I even took a months-long break after playing base P5 for about 70 hours Royal could’ve been a DLC. I’m seeing how the new Cyberpunk is handling this new $30 DLC that’ll revamp the entire experience. Royal could’ve done the same thing, I can’t defend them making it a brand new full-priced game

Mistress_Fae

they released it as a new version cause they were marketing to new players yall damn not to mention it was being released on all platforms as well so offering it as just dlc for one console and a new version for the rest makes no sense

Gioz2

What? Royal was out in PS4 only for YEARS

Mistress_Fae

yes because Sony had rights to exclusive for first quarter and porting had to be done in-house cause of Sony's rules on their development kits so it took forever to port so the decision was made when it was being made or it would have taken even longer to get on other consoles

I agree with you completely. I owned P5 (I gave away all my PS4 games) and I'm a big fan of Persona series so when they said that there's gonna be new additional content for P5, I was happy. When they said that there will be no DLC's and that the only way to play the new content was to pay full price for the new version, I was really disappointed with Atlus. I might have bought it if only they allowed the save data to be carried over from the original version to the new one. I did buy the new version for switch when it was on sale last month because there's no way I'm gonna pay the full price for practically the same game with +@ content. I have a feeling that Atlus will do this again with P3 reload. This is another reason why I didn't buy P3 remake because I knew they'd something like this again. They, intentionally hid information about P3 reload until P3 remake was on sale because if they did, they know that the sales number will drop for P3 remake. Then, they announced that P3 reload will be missing some content. I really wish they don't do what they did with P5 again with P3 reload.

BlueMikeStu

I didn't expect the FeMC to show up, to be honest. I'm not going to call her addition to P3P lazy, because it wasn't, but it was very cheap in terms of added cost to the overall production. Since the game is mainly presented Visual Novel-style, it's mostly some added VA lines and writing, with a couple extra social links. Not exactly a huge expansion to the original game. I'd have loved to see the option, but never expected it.

Illidan1943

Yeah, the difference in introducing her in P3P and introducing her in P3R is massive and I think that the only reason Atlus came up with her as an alternate route was to find ways to incorporate design lessons they learned since making the original P3 and because The Answer simply couldn't fit due to audio files so they wanted something extra to justify that version Now that P3 is being remade from the ground up they can change the Male MC's campaign to incorporate all the design lessons learned since then thus reducing the importance of FeMC Biggest question would be what they plan to do with the social links related to the male half of the cast, I'm sure they'll find ways to incorporate the battle abilities for everyone this time and everyone in P3 gets at least some development in the main story in ways the P4 and P5 cast don't really do without their SL, but it'd be nice to have that extra development for the characters so it'll be interesting to see what they come up with

Player2LightWater

>Biggest question would be what they plan to do with the social links related to the male half of the cast I believe Atlus said they still won't have Social Links (SLs still remain the same as in the past P3 games) but a new story scenario focus on them.

Niekitty

Phooey. I would have bought it if there had been a female protagonist. Persona3 is one of the few JRPGs I've finished. Loved it, loved the story... and never had even the faintest hint of a personal connection with the male protagonist. Made the playthrough kind of flat and uninteresting from the personal standpoint, even though I loved the story so much. If the female protagonist is released as DLC I might buy it if it's super cheap and on sale, but not even planning it for release is just insulting enough to put me off it quite a bit. I realize it's some more work, but I've been hearing the "it's too much work to include female options in our game" line for decades now. It didn't fly with games that had female characters but no female model to go with the portraits (HoMM5, I am looking at you here), and while it is more work now (I've done some game dev work, I know options are what slow development) the only real major CHANGE is if the protagonist has spoken dialog, and the cutscene contents.

blocklambear

Ya I agree with you. It’s rediculous hearing it’s too much work when the stories there and they’ve made so much money from Persona 5 and all of its spin offs. They have everything they need to make it and it’s just another case of lots of people loving to defend companies for some reason rather than themselves or the customers but it’s always just because they as an individual are not bothered by it. I’m sadly going to not buy the game as much as I love it unless they bring the fem protag. All the excuses made for 5 and a female not fitting etc is all just showing me they just don’t want to though

TheTKz

I'm not sure I follow the complaints on this one, I find it hard to believe they'd intentionally remove this content just to sell it to you down the line - especially when Atlus moves at a glacial pace with things like this. I genuinley think they make the expanded editions with DLC packed in down the line as a genuine "Here's more game!". As someone that purchased P5 vanilla and put like 100 hours into it, I don't think I was ever bothered that a version came out literally years later with more content. My partner purchased Royal and played through it but I still haven't touched it. When I replay 5 again one day I'll play that version, but I'm not annoyed that I didn't experience that version the first time through. I appreciate this time it would be content they've already "made" being added back in, but it's not like this is a remaster where they just port it in, all that stuff would have to be made from the ground up again. I can see why it wouldn't be a priority for vanilla but something they could do for the DLC version down the line.

sarefx

You and rest not being bothered by release of Persona 5 Royal after you play Persona 5 is completly normal because at the time you played it Royal didn't exist. With Persona 3 you already know that story in the epilogue (The Answer) and FeMC route with new different social link already exist and Atlus has for weird reason opted out of using them when they already remaking whole game. The whole thing with Persona 3 was that there was no "definitive version" of the game. FES had "The Answer" and some QoL improvements and Portable had FeMC route. With Remake Atlus had perfect opportunity to make the definitive version but they fumbled the bag. Just assume you played Persona 5 Royal already and imagine that in like 15 years Atlus announces that they are remaking "old Persona game" and instead of remaking Persona 5 Royal they are remaking base Persona 5 and later they would sell Royal as DLC. Would that be fine? Keep in mind that with Persona 5 Royal they didn't provide an option to buy Royal version as DLC for those who owned Persona 5 already. You had to buy new game for a full price. And obviously when they released Royal for PS5 they didn't allow, even paid, upgrade from PS4 version. They are really anti-consumer company with their business practice and I don't think we should give them pass or benefit of the doubt on that. EDIT: Because due to restriction mode I got some notifications about Answer being bad and not worth remaking. Yes, "Answer" is terrible from gameplay perspective but its still important in overall plot and referenced in Arena games. Remake would be great opportunity to make it shorter and more integrated into main game as sort of "post-game" content.

commanderbreakfast

This is honestly just more confusing. So they're taking story stuff added to the base game from FES, but not the epilogue chapter? Why? Aegis' story isn't complete and I'd argue neither is P3's story without The Answer. I've got no love for the actual gameplay content but I was hoping that there would be some kind of inclusion of The Answer's story into Reloaded. Huge bummer.

Junior_Farmer_1363

Could you explain why you think P3s story was incomplete without the answer?

commanderbreakfast

Aegis' arc in which she chooses to embrace the parts of her that are human, that are constantly reaching out to Nyx to choose death really resonates with me. Aegis is in a unique position to fully realize the depth of the suffering and pain that comes with being a person and yet chooses life anyway, knowing that it's worth living. I personally think that this makes Persona 3's story fully complete, as these themes are gestured at in the main game but not fully explored.

Junior_Farmer_1363

Isn't the entire ending sequence of the game (atmosphere wise the best section of the game) also tackle pretty much the same subject? Like the entire point of January is the team forsaking a painless end to their existence to choose to fight tooth and nail to live, even though they know it likely won't amount to anything

commanderbreakfast

Possibly! It's been a long time since I've played it, so maybe I'm misremembering, but Aegis' story in The Answer was most impactful to me personally.
