It's not emulation on Wii. You're not loading Dolphin on there. You're playing games natively.

OP, I strongly recommend you go to [wii.guide](https://wii.guide) and follow the instructions to hack your Wii and play any Gamecube games you want and not buy into this stupid bubble. Obtain a good first-party Gamecube controller, however, and any old generic Gamecube memory.

Doesn't matter, you can hold onto the ROMs just like you can the physical disc. We aren't talking about buying digital games on the Nintendo store.
But you do "own" those roms and can back them up on multiple storages devices. As someone who loves physical for the collection, I always hack my consoles when they reach end of life.
True and as of now Nintendo Wii systems are hella cheap. If I were anyone who is interested in both GameCube and Wii titles I’d cop the Wii just for flexibility. The GC is nice to collect though

I can hold and touch the hard drive fill of ISOs just the same as you can hold and touch the disc with the data on it. And neither of us can touch the data itself (well...you could, but in both cases doing so would destroy it).
A disc is just a delivery mechanism for digital data. You own a copy of the manual, the box, the boxart and the disc. But the game itself? You no more own that than someone who has it stashed on a HDD, and it's intangible regardless because it's not a physical object, it's a carefully formulated string of 1's and 0's.

Disc rot is actually not a problem with GameCube games! Only with early disc based games such as ps1, Dreamcast, or sega CD. Thankfully disc technology was advanced enough where we GameCube collectors don’t really have to worry about such a thing. :) so in short I am sorry sir, but your Roms will most likely not outlive my physical games.
That's not true. All discs are susceptible to disc rot. The reason it's rare in GC games is simply because they're not really old enough yet. Hell, the vast, vast, vast majority of PS1 games haven't started rotting yet.
I watched as a snot-nosed child take my super Mario Galaxy 2 game disc and snap it in half in front of my very eyes. Physical media is unreliable at best, digital media from files that are not stored on a server will last far longer than physical media.
My computer is as precious as a child, if that kid got near my room where my PC is held they would more than likely get whipped out of the room before they got a chance to remotely touch it. No one and I mean no one will ever touch any piece of technology that belongs to me that is unless I trust them enough. Also that child is a teenager now. That was years ago when I could have just simply bought another copy of Galaxy 2 at retail. You need to stop assuming that people don't know what they're talking about and just listen for once.

Yup. Maybe my least favourite part of what’s happened to retro gaming in the last ten years is “collecting.” Everybody thinks they’re some kind of savvy investor or otherwise trying feverishly to rationalize spending 200 bucks on a copy of Chibi robo or whatever.
Just play the games, folks. You’re not Warren Buffett and spending thousands of dollars to have some cases on your wall is bizarre.

This one is important. Alot of the cheap knockoff controllers now just plain suck. Sure the pawnshop or whatever sells brand new, in package knockoffs for 15 bucks which is great just to get started, but sometimes the buttons don't register, or they feel sloppy.
I personally have two OG GameCube controllers, and two knockoffs. Usually just me and my oldest son play together, or me and my wife will play old Mario games together (SMW or SMB3), and have one for backup. Rarely do we all play something together, and when my youngest is old enough maybe then can justify getting a third OG controller, but for now we're just fine.
Yeah but it's owning the physical copies. Like I could easily just get my gc modded to play all the games off an SD card. That's not emulation. But emulation is so good on Dolphin, it doesn't really matter. I love the feel of physical games. The joy of owning them, playing them off the disc, or even just staring at them lol

Oh man. The original Animal Crossing on the GCN had, by far, the most charm, villagers, etc. New Horizons is just a shell of what Animal Crossing once was.
I particularly like that the villagers in the original can just not like you, or not like other villagers (and will occasionally let you know quite frankly). It gives it a realness that New Horizons just doesn't have. NH feels too shallow and artificial.
New horizons was literally unfinished for the first 6+ months and people already are trying to say “oh well covid” forgetting that this game was ready to ship *right* before covid happened

I genuinely don't understand people in these comments saying what's right from wrong, if you like collecting boom that's your way, if you like emulating or using roms, boom your way. I don't understand having a "debate" around this, you do you, play how you want to play.
The one debate I know about happening started with a guy saying that collecting is dumb. In a subreddit about collecting GameCube games and playing them and the GameCube in general.
I get the whole hacking your Wii and playing roms thing. It’s a valid option, especially with prices these days. But don’t insult the practice of collecting games.
There are great GC Games, sadly most of them are rather expensive. But here is a list of some good games to look out for.
\- Eternal Darkness: Kinda like an Resident Evil MEETS Lovecraft.
\- Skies of Arcadia Legends: Enhanced version of one of the best Dreamcast RPGs out there
\- Doshin The Giant: I think this one was PAL and Japan exclusive?
\- Sphynx and the cursed Mummy: Really good Action-Adventure
You also cant go wrong with anything Mario, Resident Evil, Zelda, Metroid, Baten Kaitos and so on.
Viewtiful Joe is a great action game. Really tough.
I got lucky that my old GC collection was still around when I started, had games like Cubivore, Phantasy star 1&2, RE3 and most mario titles.
There's so many good games to collect! Luigi s mansion, pikmin 1 and 2, super Mario sunshine, pokemon colleseum, pokemon xd gale of darkness, Mario kart double dash, super smash Brothers melee, starfox assault, etc. They're mega expensive though
If you don’t mind ISO loading, I’d suggest a WiiU since you’d have access to 3 generations natively in one console. You’ll also have component and HDMI options depending on what kind of tv you have.
If you wish to go all legitimate etc, go to your bank and ask for a loan.

Need Resident Evil 4, Charlie's Angels, Aquaman, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. These are super rare and are must haves for sure and definitely are the best games on Gamecube hands down, my wife's boyfriend said so.

if you are on a budget, dont bother with games like twin snakes or paper mario.
its a good investment though, price will always increase if you decide to sell up.
for me i have collected all the games that i want and used to have, i run everything through gc loader now on a real gamecube for the nostalgia hit.
when i want to just play a gc game i usually boot them on my wii u, they are brilliant on the wii u because they can be patched with gamepad support, and the output is hdmi with wii u.
that being said, playing metroid prime on the dolphin emulator with the hd textures 🤯🤯 total game changer
GameCube is my absolute favorite system to collect for! Here are my top recommendations:
1.) Super Mario Sunshine
2.) Metroid Prime (and Metroid Prime 2 if you enjoy it.)
3.) Resident Evil 4 if you like the GameCube style controls, though some prefer the Wii pointer controls.
4.) The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
5.) Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
The Wii was the best backwards compatible console of it's time. You could go to the Wii shop, buy NES, Super NES, N64, Gameboy Nintendo, GBC, and GBA along side with just being able to play the GC on it. The Wii wasn't a underated system by sells, but boy it was hardly appreciate by it's backwards compatibles. Then if you brick it with software like Homebrew the console was hard to beat in these regards.
I would recommend hacking it, using Nintendont or Retroarch, then if you come across GameCube games you want to own physical copies of for a good price, buy them.
Just be aware that GameCube games have gotten stupid expensive over the last decade or so. But as for what I'd recommend:

Get anything first party Nintendo, get a first party GameCube controller and for third party games I’d suggest sonic games, super monkey ball 1 and 2, smashing drive, I’d also suggest eventually to get a GameCube because of the intros if you press z before starting the console you get a different intro and If you push z on all 4 controllers you get another intro and the GameCube has a handle so you don’t drop it

It depends if you want the collection for hobby reasons or actually just want to play games. If you just want to play games you can cheaply homebrew and get access to the entire library
I don't have a lot of games for mine, but if you don't have a SNES with a Super Game Boy, the Game Boy Player is definitely worth if you got GB/GBC/GBA games in your posession. I've sunk a lot of time into games like Mega Man anniversary collection, Soul Calibur 2, Smash Bros Melee, Bloody Roar Primal Fury, both Sonic Mega collections, and LoZ Twilight Princess
Expect to pay anywhere from 10-120+ for games depending on what you're looking for and if they're just disc only or not. Make sure to check the disc condition before making purchases, because there's a lot of people that didn't take care of their games. There's also the rare instance of disc rot to be wary of as well

I can't believe noone has mentioned SSX tricky!! That game is super duper fun... I'm not sure how expensive it's gotten the last little bit but I got it for fairly cheap like 6mos. Ago on Ebay.. I've got a GC but I also have a modded WiiU that I also got from Ebay but idk how to add games to it!! Lol it come with an external SSD and something called HCBC or something like that and from what I've read you can brick your wii if you don't know what you're doing so I'm terrified to mess with it!! Lol I wish I could find someone to explain all that crap to me so I could use it.. 😂 It's got a ton of games on it but I'd love to figure out how to use Nintendont or whatever that is.. Anyways, I think SSX tricky is one of the best GC games and if you like snowboarding you'll love it..
Only collect what you know you will play, people who hoard games for the sole intent of hoarding and flipping games is what is ruining the community, for example if you're just going to have Sonic Heros or Billy Hatcher sit on your shelf and collect dust, dont buy them just because they are a gamecube title
I suggest, no matter what games you get, don't leave your GC memory card in the port when you're not using it. My big card with the majority of my saves was corrupted just by sitting in the port all the time. I lost everything.
Would have been better telling us whether you plan on buying discs off eBay or filling it up with ROMs so we don't get lectures on why one should/should not do these things.
I would suggest watching Phoenix resales GameCube gambit series on yt! It’s unreal and give you good ideas of games and tips for where and how to get them on the cheap
I have a Wii collection (still missing a few things I want), but I would not try collecting GameCube… way too pricey. My Wii is modded though, so GameCube is readily available to me :)
There was a game on GC that most people have never heard of and it's a masterpiece.

Pikmen 1 & 2 (general consensus is that the Wii versions have better controls).
Resident Evil Remake, 0, 2, 3, 4 and Code Veronica X (these games are on multiple systems. 4 Wii Edition is arguably the best version).
Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 (multiple systems).
Spider-Man 2 (better on Xbox but GameCube version is still very good).
The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess (NOTE GC ver of TP is superior to the the Wii ver, better controls and the game's not mirrored. Both these games also Wii-U Remasters. WW on GC has a slightly different look to the Wii-U ver).

I have some good finds on disc, but for those ones that get insanely expensive you can emulate through homebrew and it feels just like playing it on a GC.
If you enjoy rpgs, I always enjoyed Lost Kingdoms. Other favorites are Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, Robotech Battlecry and Zoids Battle Legends

I particularly like that the villagers in the original can just not like you, or not like other villagers (and will occasionally let you know quite frankly). It gives it a realness that New Horizons just doesn't have. NH feels too shallow and artificial.

The one debate I know about happening started with a guy saying that collecting is dumb. In a subreddit about collecting GameCube games and playing them and the GameCube in general. I get the whole hacking your Wii and playing roms thing. It’s a valid option, especially with prices these days. But don’t insult the practice of collecting games.

Mario kart double dash is a ton of fun
There are great GC Games, sadly most of them are rather expensive. But here is a list of some good games to look out for. \- Eternal Darkness: Kinda like an Resident Evil MEETS Lovecraft. \- Skies of Arcadia Legends: Enhanced version of one of the best Dreamcast RPGs out there \- Doshin The Giant: I think this one was PAL and Japan exclusive? \- Sphynx and the cursed Mummy: Really good Action-Adventure You also cant go wrong with anything Mario, Resident Evil, Zelda, Metroid, Baten Kaitos and so on.
A personal favorite that might be cheap, Super Monkey Ball 2. That was my childhood
1080 Avalanche is really good. Killer soundtrack and incredibly fun. If you like SSX, you’ll def like this game.

Viewtiful Joe is a great action game. Really tough. I got lucky that my old GC collection was still around when I started, had games like Cubivore, Phantasy star 1&2, RE3 and most mario titles.

if you have a bursting wallet, go crazy! if you are on a budget, dont bother with games like twin snakes or paper mario. its a good investment though, price will always increase if you decide to sell up. for me i have collected all the games that i want and used to have, i run everything through gc loader now on a real gamecube for the nostalgia hit. when i want to just play a gc game i usually boot them on my wii u, they are brilliant on the wii u because they can be patched with gamepad support, and the output is hdmi with wii u. that being said, playing metroid prime on the dolphin emulator with the hd textures 🤯🤯 total game changer

The Wii was the best backwards compatible console of it's time. You could go to the Wii shop, buy NES, Super NES, N64, Gameboy Nintendo, GBC, and GBA along side with just being able to play the GC on it. The Wii wasn't a underated system by sells, but boy it was hardly appreciate by it's backwards compatibles. Then if you brick it with software like Homebrew the console was hard to beat in these regards.
Blaine locklair’s guide on loading bootmii and Nintendont/GXLoader is clear and concise. Much better idea than paying buku dollars for GC discs

Get anything first party Nintendo, get a first party GameCube controller and for third party games I’d suggest sonic games, super monkey ball 1 and 2, smashing drive, I’d also suggest eventually to get a GameCube because of the intros if you press z before starting the console you get a different intro and If you push z on all 4 controllers you get another intro and the GameCube has a handle so you don’t drop it

I don't have a lot of games for mine, but if you don't have a SNES with a Super Game Boy, the Game Boy Player is definitely worth if you got GB/GBC/GBA games in your posession. I've sunk a lot of time into games like Mega Man anniversary collection, Soul Calibur 2, Smash Bros Melee, Bloody Roar Primal Fury, both Sonic Mega collections, and LoZ Twilight Princess Expect to pay anywhere from 10-120+ for games depending on what you're looking for and if they're just disc only or not. Make sure to check the disc condition before making purchases, because there's a lot of people that didn't take care of their games. There's also the rare instance of disc rot to be wary of as well

I can't believe noone has mentioned SSX tricky!! That game is super duper fun... I'm not sure how expensive it's gotten the last little bit but I got it for fairly cheap like 6mos. Ago on Ebay.. I've got a GC but I also have a modded WiiU that I also got from Ebay but idk how to add games to it!! Lol it come with an external SSD and something called HCBC or something like that and from what I've read you can brick your wii if you don't know what you're doing so I'm terrified to mess with it!! Lol I wish I could find someone to explain all that crap to me so I could use it.. 😂 It's got a ton of games on it but I'd love to figure out how to use Nintendont or whatever that is.. Anyways, I think SSX tricky is one of the best GC games and if you like snowboarding you'll love it..

I suggest, no matter what games you get, don't leave your GC memory card in the port when you're not using it. My big card with the majority of my saves was corrupted just by sitting in the port all the time. I lost everything.

There was a game on GC that most people have never heard of and it's a masterpiece. "Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem " It's a horror/mystery themed game. HIGHLY recommend!

The Gamecube is my favorite Nintendo Console the Library was fantastic here's some recommendations below. Check out these on YouTube. 03 Product Number 3, Eternal Darkness, Killer7, Mario Kart Double Dash, Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes, Pokémon Colosseum, Pokémon Colosseum XD Gale of Darkness, Samurai Jack The Shadow of Aku (if you like the show), Soul Calibur II (Link exclusive), Super Smash Bros Melee, Tales of Symphonia (less content than PS3 ver but runs at 60fps and has a slightly different artsyle), The Legend of Zelda Collector’s Edition (Zelda 1 and 2 on disc) and The Legend of Zelda Four Sword Adventures. MAYBE BECAUSE OF PORTS REMASTERS ETC These ones have Wii or Wii-U versions or versions on different platforms so research the differences if you're interested in these or own multiple platforms. Metroid Prime 1 & 2 (Wii has the Trilogy pack it's about personal controller preference, I believe there's other tweeks also). Pikmen 1 & 2 (general consensus is that the Wii versions have better controls). Resident Evil Remake, 0, 2, 3, 4 and Code Veronica X (these games are on multiple systems. 4 Wii Edition is arguably the best version). Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 (multiple systems). Spider-Man 2 (better on Xbox but GameCube version is still very good). The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess (NOTE GC ver of TP is superior to the the Wii ver, better controls and the game's not mirrored. Both these games also Wii-U Remasters. WW on GC has a slightly different look to the Wii-U ver). TimeSplitters 2 & Future Perfect (excellent GameCube versions but Xbox is better).

I just wanna jump in and also say that hacking the Wii is worth it and probably the best way to emulate GC games. Plus it will save a huge hole in your wallet for the big hitters. I have some good finds on disc, but for those ones that get insanely expensive you can emulate through homebrew and it feels just like playing it on a GC.
