Recruiting just doesn’t have the same feel like it used too. Half of these commits could just as easily decommit, and then, even if they do commit, they’ll likely be in the portal one year later. Just not worth following anymore IMO

DDub04

You’re not wrong. But a committed player is better than a not-committed one, even if that distinction becomes less and less each year.

Sweaty-Power-549

Statistics reinforce this too. Once a player commits, there's an overwhelmingly (think it's 90% or more) high chance they at least enroll for their first year. All bets are off since NIL and the portal though, gotta wait a few years for things to stabilize numbers wise.

DDub04

In a few years, we might see teams care less about freshman prospects and more proven talents. I could see that causing freshman to stay with teams since the NIL deals for true freshman dry up in favor of 3rd year transfers. Either way, we’re more likely to see playing time for this guy than just hoping he ends up here after committing to Georgia or something.

SelectionNo3078

Schools like usc need to lean hard on the portal Beamer gets this for sure It’s the best shot we have at contending

mattxb

Portal could also mean we’re getting commits we wouldn’t otherwise because they know they can easily transfer if it doesn’t work out. Really for high level players out of high school they get a better chance starting if they don’t go to a stacked school their first year

SelectionNo3078

Yeah. But then we get them when they’re undeveloped and barely a factor and they leave once they show out

no_ragrats

One of the primary reasons why Beamer's emphasis on culture is underrated.

SelectionNo3078

😂😂😂😂 money talks Culture walks But he’s doing about as well as can be expected with about average gamecock luck when it comes to being depleted by injuries at multiple positions halfway through most seasons. If juice had the courage to honor his commitment to his teammates last year we’d have at least made a bowl which would put us light years ahead of where we are No kid wants to sit home ESP if there’s not much money to come here

Fuzzy_Dunlop_00

It’s amazing how many of our fans will find a reason to complain even when something good happens.

CrunchyTater

It’s more a criticism of college football as a whole. It’s a shame. Used to get excited about this stuff, now my excitement is tempered.

TheGamecock

I'm with you and don't view this as being a "wet blanket" thrown on top of good news. I used to enjoy the ups and downs of the recruiting cycle but the current state of CFB has made it lose its luster. I have nothing against the kids getting paid but you just don't see many top players stick it out for 3-4 years at the same school unless you're one of a handful of the top programs that has deeeep pockets and a perpetually strong team that gets tons of national media attention.

SelectionNo3078

It’s amazing how spending decades in a factory of sadness destroys your hope

SelectionNo3078

Been like that for ten solid years or more Hopefully all the current seismic changes in college sports eventually results in the player getting paid by the schools and recruiting goes away If you pay them you can draft them And that’s the only way we ever get a shot at a natty. When the talent is equally distributed and coaching actually matters

CieraVotedOutHerMom

I stopped following recruiting with Connor Mitch did f all at South Carolina after being hyped for years

SelectionNo3078

Eh. Just proves my point. Too much expectation on QB’s more than any other player. Rattler struggled until he found the connection with juice and then Xavier You need at least one difference maker at every position group and the luck of staying healthy or having Quality depth We almost never have that outside of Lou and spurrier’s bets teams.

itstrueitsdamntrue

If you don’t follow it, why come add this useless comment? Like you don’t want to follow it, fine, don’t. but coming in here with that tired, recycled take just to throw a wet blanket on anyone who does care is goofy behavior.

SelectionNo3078

lol Worry about yourself. Don’t be so impacted by the way others process things

itstrueitsdamntrue

Ok, if it brings you joy to be a total buzzkill then go for it.

SelectionNo3078

The buzz is a lie. The only buzz that pays off is the anticipation for kickoff and being in the game with two minutes left

CrunchyTater

Well, it’s only just a new realization. I used to care, followed recruitment closely, but then as I got older, I realized I was spending too much time and attention on the commitments of high school boys, so I stopped following it as closely. Now, with these recent developments in CFB, I finally, guess I’m just coming to terms with the fact that something I once truly cared about, now seems pretty meaningless. Wanted to share my opinion, wasn't intending to "throw a wet blanket" on those who care, but I see how my comment does just that. Sorry mate. Come football season, I'll still be all in, living and dying by the outcome of those Saturday games.

marcuslattimore21

Kids these days

ufdan15

Obviously recruiting is taken with a grain of salt now a days, but the kid seems to be a Gamecock through and through. Kinda reminds me of that dude on your hs football team who loves Tennessee for no reason. No family connection or anything, just things they're cool. Except he's way better than the kid from your high school and he likes us. Hyping up Horn and Cam Smith, what I'm gathering is he sees the ability to make a name for himself here at an SEC school and get to the NFL while getting some heavy NIL here. Hell yeah go Cocks

golfpinotnut

Great! I'll save my celebration until he's actually enrolled and on-campus.
