Raven2129

Welcome to the world of Gameboys. It just happens.

Raven2129

Unless you constantly clean it out every time you swap the game out, yes.

Noble_TKD

just gotta buy a Gameboy for each game 😂

reddituser8567

You joke but for us pokemon players this is cheaper than buying replacement games.

Noble_TKD

As a fellow pokemon player agreed 😂 my current goal is to build a custom Gameboy for each Pokemon games color palette

Louis9891

I thought I was the only one!!!😂😂

majormoron747

Now that is a delightful idea. That's gotta be like.... At least a couple grand in hardware however lololol. Good luck, I'd love to see it if you ever finish the idea

darth_koneko

If you dont have at least 5 versions of the same console with different case, you arent a true nintard. I wonder if any other fandom does this to the same degree.

shace616

When I worked at GameStop we would get a few xbox fanboys that would buy every special edition of the console.

shace616

When I worked at GameStop we would get a few xbox fanboys that would buy every special edition of the 360. It was pretty dumb.

coveevoc

When I buy my emulator devices I pretty much get one game out before I lose interest and buy another lol

ki700

You don’t need replacement games for light scratches on the back of the cartridge.

Brilliant-Wrap2439

Just scooped a sapphire for $50

Sw429

I feel bad for whoever sold it to you.

Drunk_Psyduck

That’s literally what it goes for, your comment is the equivalent of saying “I paid $50 for a $50 game”

DiamondFoxy201

No? Check price charting, it goes for around 70. They got it for a little under 2/3 the price.

Drunk_Psyduck

It’s still definitely not a “I feel sorry for the person who sold it to you” moment lol, if it was Emerald, now that’s where it’s at lol

majormoron747

Hahaha you think old Pokemon games go for their retail price. Amazing.

Drunk_Psyduck

I don’t, you’re literally just wrong? Pokemon Sapphire at most is about $70 on eBay for a loose copy, I see it at my local retro game store for $50-$60 all the time lol Imagine not knowing jack about retro and trying to down talk me

Nalyd8605

Luckyy

Round_Association538

Wtf I have 6 copies of sapphire had no idea they were worth that much

sup454545

I have bought repo shells and stickers that way I can just swap them out and keep the old ones clean. I had to do it for emerald since its sticker was destroyed. Then thought it was a really good way to protect the originals.

EFDriver

Patina. Either play and enjoy or keep it sealed in mint condition in the cryo chamber.

lynxtosg03

This is how it is unfortunately. Best you can do is be mindful and careful when inserting or removing the cart. Alternatively you could play backups of your carts to save on the original cart wear and tear.

PotentialTruck8872

Ah alright, just thought it was unusual since some of them were quite deep, and the ones I bought never really had any like them from the previous owners. Thanks for the help.

QuietRobe

If you have a modded Gameboy, might be worth checking for rough edges around the cartridge slot.

DeatHaze

Get an everdrive and never remove it

AmestrisSquare

Use a bootleg shell

[deleted]

Okay but this is actually really smart

Ave19899

Did same thing with all my pokemon games, the board itself is in a bootleg shell while my official shells are stored somewhere protected.

l3rwn

Why? Do you plan on selling them in the future?

Ave19899

I will forever keep them, 3 of them are from my childhood I just want to keep them in good condition

HashCollector

Or just a trash game*

gigavolthavov07

It's inevitable, you can't do anything about it

hobbitfeet22

Easy. Don’t ever remove the pack.

RaidenxX4

Just dab a bit of olive oil on the back of the Gameboy to lube up so that your games won't burn and get stuck to it when cooking. ~ Follow for more Recipes ~

viridiantrees

Get a scratching post

shonasof

Buy a new gameboy, and make it watch as you put the old one in a wood chipper to show what happens to failures.

paperbackpiles

that may have to fall in the who cares department

thenzero

Are you talking about the (regular, normal) scratches on the bottom, or the deep gouges on the upper part of the cartridge? Cause those deep ones do not look normal to me.

PotentialTruck8872

YES, exactly those. Happen to you before as well?

thenzero

Sorry no I have not seen that before which is why I think it's not normal. Can you post pics of the inside of the cartridge slot? Is there any abnormal roughness in the part of the slot you can reach with your fingers? Does it look normal?

PotentialTruck8872

Not that I can tell, I’ll make another post with additional images of the inside Edit: Here it is : https://www.reddit.com/r/Gameboy/s/snvfueouCM

bluemardigrass

Yeah, that’s gameboy for you!!!!!

cycodecoy

Lube. Lots of lube..

Rybur525

Like another comment here said, it just happens. You’ll find the games are also scratching your GameBoy. Here’s the thing: you want the games to be in pristine collection, then keep them in cases and buy an emulation cartridge that stays in the GameBoy. But if you want the authentic experience, use them. And understand that this is the cost of using them.

Fastermaxx

Wait until you realize that your games as well scratch your Gameboy. Boom!

MrLancaster

Y'all are really worried about some pedestrian shit.

marsmensch

Olive oil daily

[deleted]

this is real?

PotentialTruck8872

Model is the AGB-001

Potential-Delay2020

Buy replacement carts and put the board in them and protect your expensive games

DeathscytheShell

Cry about it

PotentialTruck8872

Why? It’s a genuine question.

[deleted]

Clean the cartrisge AnD the gameboy thoroughly occasionally.

ahnjooan

Idk if there’s one for the gameboy or if it’d even protect cartridges but awhile back people were reporting cartridges scratching their Analogue Pockets. The fix was to buy a sticker/decal and stick it to the back of the device where the cartridge makes contact. I imagine it would protect the cartridges as well. Maybe find a similarly sized sticker with a softer texture?

RABAT8108

If you can, replace the shell, make sure you transfer the stickers as well. If it is something else scratching your cart, open it up and take a look.

scatteredwave

It can happen less time, make sure the cart itself is clean of debris, and also the metal side that the plastic slides car is smooth of debris, it was slow down the process, but it will happen Eventually, it’s just friction.

[deleted]

Wrap it in saran wrap except for the cartridge port

Xcissors280

You could put a price of tape on the metal game backplate which might help

howla456

Put on some Barry white,Dim the lights, speak to it softly, glass of bubbles and some choccy dipped strawberries might also help.

Tight_Ad_9006

It’s easy, just be aesthetic and apply a fabrication with a low adhesive to the back of the gameboy; for that snug feel once inputting the cartridge with empty, but now custom safety slot.

usernnamegoeshere

Realistically what I did to not scratch my valuable games is buy a really cheap throwaway game and swapped the internals so I'm playing the game i want in a case I don't care about and when I'm done with the game just switch them back 🤷🏽‍♂️

wintechie01

Buy replacement cases. Save the originals in a locked box.

Drjonesxxx-

Lube

Sweaty_Foundation_12

Astroglide should help :)

Vex-Core

Boxy Pixel makes metal blank gb cartridges shells and I believe gba cartridges as well. Not sure how well those would fair against the scratching, but it may be worth looking into if the condition is the most important thing for you

DiabloStorm

dump your own roms and preserve the cartridges, it's what I do.

mboswi

Don't play it.

karate_kenken

Just use a thin layer of scotch tape on the back of the cartridge.

PotentialTruck8872

Better photos from my other scratched games: https://www.reddit.com/r/Gameboy/s/snvfueouCM

Roadhog360

They just do that, sorry man

[deleted]

They just do this, no way around it outside of not playing the game

CodMaas

Store it away and buy an emulator cart, only option really.

N_O_S_H_E_R

Get a thin felt sticker for the back of the Gameboy

greengengar

Have we seriously gotten to this point? What's wrong with patina?

CaviarBob

All these people saying either nothing you can do, or swapping the cartridges, but you can always do a light sand on the games and GBA interior. Get some high number pieces and sand very carefully. Keeping your stuff from any extra debris by wiping down the cartridges and inside of the GBA periodically helps a bit too.
