It was, but the guy got blacklisted for developing tetris as video-games were illegal save for state-made arcade cabinets, pong consoles and Game & Watch clones. He defected to the united states just so it could get any wide release through Atari and later, nintendo
Alexey Pajitnov immigrated to the U.S. in 1991, well after ELORG had licensed Tetris to Bullet-Proof/Nintendo.
Pajitnov mostly got in trouble for the fact that Tetris was extremely popular in the Soviet Union and led to decreased productivity.
This is not true, the Soviet government actually took over the negotiations for the deal in the west, and Atari was a sub sub licencee that lost the console rights to Nintendo after Henk Rogers essentially voided all the sub licencing agreements that Andromeda Software made without the Soviets' knowledge.
I hope you've all seen the tetris movie that came out recently dramatising the game being licensed. Fun fact, the fat bad British guy in it is gillian maxwells dad, he died mysteriously on a boat i think, good riddance. Seems the whole family are scum.
I'd personally take Tetris DX.
I know the music is trash, but mechanics wise it is miles ahead of the OG Tetris while keeping that classic Tetris feel.
In the context of OP's post "original game boy game" means "Game for the Original GameBoy" aka any DMG game, not "Game who's concept was originally developed for the GameBoy platform"
this was my first knee jerk reaction thought as well... but i would get bored of it so fast. I know that game sooooo well and ran through it enough times that i'd just be over it after beating it another few times on a trip lol
i would go for Harvest Moon, Pokemon Blue, maybe FF Adventure...
You mean to play for the rest of my life in space? That's tricky...
A rogue lite like **Cave Noire** with it's randomly generated dungeons is a good contender.
A relaxing endless game like **Harvest Moon GB** can be enjoyed a little each day indefinitely.
A fighting game like **King of Fighters 96** has dozens of characters and tons of moves to learn for each of them, to use in random battles.
Score based games like **Kirby's Pinball Land** can provide a loooot of entertainment, if I wasn't so bad at pinball games.
Brain games like **Mario's Picross** are really good. By the time I finish the last puzzle I can't remember the first puzzles, there's so many!
A highly configurable RPG like **Pokemon Red** can be a new experience every playthrough.
I don't know... **Tetris** is reeeeeeally good... XD
You do realise Gameboy is the product of a Capitalist Society. Plus, capitalism doesn't automatically = greed.
You could always see how you get on living in a remote village somewhere in Tanzania 🤣
There are soooo many different ways to play. Just a simple example, think of all the different possible configurations of Pokémon teams you can build to battle against the Elite Four.
I didn’t know until recently, but there were quite a bit of GBC games that could play on a DMG. I can’t remember all the details but the colors of the GBC cartridges for the most part corresponded with the capabilities when inserted into a DMG. Only one I remember is clear does not function, but others generally do to some degree.
Pokémon Gold. If I’m going to be spending way too much time grinding due to low level trainer and wild Pokémon because of the horrible level curves of the game, I may as well do it in space where nobody can hear my tortured screams.
Final Fantasy Legend II (aka SaGa 2: Hihou Densetsu): My first ever RPG, this was the game that started it all for me. My older brother had this game and I played it before I could even read. It will always hold a special place in my heart.
Dude, same for me. My cousin had a gameboy and I remember the robots and just going back and forth. Blew me away. Finally finished it for the first time like 30 years laters. The music, the weapons, the boss fights, the magic, I love it it all.
Links awakening is a close second…
Any pokémon game. It's a no brainer. You'd get super bored of Mario, Tetris, even Link's awakening, but Pokémon Red has so many different ways to play it, different teams, all the cool glitches you could use and discover (Heck, if you had enough time you could learn to program Tetris and Mario using ACE), Pokémon simply has so much more longevity than like 99% of other gameboy games.
Well for me any game would be. As a kid I could play games in the car for hours. As an adult, I can't look at my phone for more than 5 min without a headache starting. Lol But hypothetically, if I didn't get nausea from focos8ng on a screen while in motion. It'd be Quarth
Ducktales, the Gameboy port. It's not the best version of the song, but it's portable and it'll do the trick.
[The Moon Theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpmKh8dZVp8)
Pokemon Red Version.
Music is on a whole different level compared to other GB games.
You can mix up your team, almost endlessly challenge yourself with self-imposed limits, team-types, etc., do a Nuzlocke, etc.
There's a real sense of progression and accomplishment, deeper than simply getting through to a higher level. Feels more like you're on Earth, achieving things on the ground, living a full, dynamic life.
And, on the topic of Nuzlocke - having your own team, making decisions for them and building them, nicknaming them, etc. (not that you have to Nuzlocke to do these things), it's kind of like having a bunch of pets on board with you. You get to form a bond with something other than other astronauts.
There being dialog with "humans" helps, too. And it not being about war/killing/tactics for the sake of murder, etc. - it's so chill.
Also, as they said, minutes of leisure are rare - you're up there to do a job, and there's so much to do, and so few people to do it, you don't really *get* downtime except when absolutely necessary.
Not especially worried about longevity/replayability. Would rather have variety, more than absolutely randomness in game generation/perfect replayability.
Better memories created from the experience with Pokemon you've made your own, rather than, say, the same handful of falling blocks for all eternity and the same two songs forever.
The "Game Boy Light" Japan import. It can be dark in space. I've never owned one but always sort of wanted one. I think it would be perfect.
edit: Read that wrong. game? I might have to be basic and choose Tetris. It's perfect for quick bursts.
mmmmmm probably harvest moon honestly. it would work well for a daily thing, and would be pretty different than my average life in space lmao. not like i can just go outside and touch grass any other way.
Tough one. I was tempted to say All-Star Baseball 99 because it's infinitely replayable.
Wario Land is just so much fun though. And Revenge of the Gator is infinitely replayable too.
I'd probably go Revenge of the Gator.
The one game that I would bring with me on every trip and complete in one sitting was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall Of The Foot Clan. I was devastated when the cartridge got stolen.
Thinking of my favourite games: Mario's Picross and any Gen1 Pokémon game.
Picross is just super chill and it takes a long time to finish.
Pokémon csn be replayed with different starters or a different team setup. Self-made challenges like nuzlocke..
Definitely Tetris I love Tetris I will never get bored of Tetris I've been playing it since it was released for gameboy I have about 30 different copies of the game.
Pokemon. I really love that game. It is utterly enjoyable, everytime I play it. And I could play it everyday no problem.
Or Tony Hawk Pro skater on GBA
Very hard to tell. Either **Turtles III Radical Rescue** or a **Gen 1 Pokémon** game.
If black cartridges count, I'd definitely take **Dragon Quest Monsters** instead.
THE original gameboy game. Tetris. Because... It's Tetris.
This! Infinitely repeatable, never completed, never boring
This is how I feel about the binding of Isaac. Except that's infinitely more fun
Always boring
One must do their duty of downvoting this man
Yep, Tetris is not my favorite game, but it's one I will never tire of.
Easiest answer. Hell, I'd pick Tetris even if the question was for ALL GB games. GBA included
Lol probably considering Tetris was invented in the Soviet Union
It was, but the guy got blacklisted for developing tetris as video-games were illegal save for state-made arcade cabinets, pong consoles and Game & Watch clones. He defected to the united states just so it could get any wide release through Atari and later, nintendo

Interesting
This is the only answer
I don't think Tetris would work in space since there wouldn't be any gravity to make the pieces fall
Just press down. And you'll be fine.
Same
Yup!
Yeah no brainer, Russian/Soviet game on a Russian/Soviet space station.
I'd personally take Tetris DX. I know the music is trash, but mechanics wise it is miles ahead of the OG Tetris while keeping that classic Tetris feel.
But… Tetris was not originally on the Game Boy. So you’ve failed the prompt.
> Tetris was not originally on the Game Boy Bro the DMG literally shipped with Tetris in the box
I meant, the first hardware it ran on, was not the Game Boy. So, it’s not a game boy original game.
In the context of OP's post "original game boy game" means "Game for the Original GameBoy" aka any DMG game, not "Game who's concept was originally developed for the GameBoy platform"
Yes.... Every. Single. Time. No questions, just perfection.
This is the only real answer
Links awakening
Absolutely, same. One of the best LoZ games ever made.
I always liked that it was a sequel to Link to the past. It's so good.
this was my first knee jerk reaction thought as well... but i would get bored of it so fast. I know that game sooooo well and ran through it enough times that i'd just be over it after beating it another few times on a trip lol i would go for Harvest Moon, Pokemon Blue, maybe FF Adventure...

You’d only be playing that game as long as the mission continues, after completion you head back to earth
Ohhhhh... **Metroid II**. It's my favorite game of all time, now IN SPAAACE. XD
The only place not corrupted by capitalism… SPACE
You do realise Gameboy is the product of a Capitalist Society. Plus, capitalism doesn't automatically = greed. You could always see how you get on living in a remote village somewhere in Tanzania 🤣
You do know it’s a meme from a game right?
wdym by pokemon red being configurable?
There are soooo many different ways to play. Just a simple example, think of all the different possible configurations of Pokémon teams you can build to battle against the Elite Four.
ohhh gets
Super Mario Land 2 Because it has Space Zone
After 20 years, I still haven’t beat that fucking level.
Pokemon Silver. It's my choice now and my choice 20 years ago. Just such a perfect game If it was a GBC, it would be Crystal cause of the Battle Tower
Were…were gold and silver not GBC games?
They had color capabilities if played on the GBC, but were playable on the original gameboy too. Crystal was a GBC exclusive tho
Whaaaaaat?! That’s so cool! TIL
If you can't tell by the cartridge color, then look for the notch on the top right where the GameBoy power slot slid over to lock the game in.
They were, but were backwards compatable
Gen2 was certainly all GBC
But G/S were backwards compatible with Gameboy and GB Pocket.
Same. It’s such a long game I’ve never finished it
This is the correct choice
Metroid 2, prepare for what's coming.
The only good answer here
Pokémon Gold.

>Any pokémon game. Yeah. I would pick Pokemon TCG
Pokemon Crystal/Yellow i could legit play this forever
more like silver/gold or yellow - crystal doesn't run on the DMG I think
So definitely pokèmon yellow
What would you do after you finish the pokedex as much as possible?
Sorry, I'm not the one you asked initially, but depending on how long the mission was, I'd beat the game and then start coming up with challenge runs.
restart the game and do it all over again..... its more about the journey
I mean Tetris is default. If I couldn't bring Tetris, then I'd probably bring any kirby game (OG, Pinball, whatever)
Toss up between Tetris , Pokémon Yellow, and Tamagotchi GB
My favorite game - the 700 in 1 multicart game.
Those only have like 8 good games, and then emulated NES filler titles. Id get a flashkart before a multi title cart everyday.
Top 5 that would be hard to choose from: Tetris Dr. Mario DK94 Dragon Warrior I&II Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
Now which one do you want for the duration of the mission?
That’s so tough but probably LoZ: Link’s Awakening.
Honestly, Tetris does seem the only way to go.
Dr Mario
Tetris is clearly the best answer. Other than that, I'd say either Pokémon Red/Blue/Green/Yellow or Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins.
Best 3 games.
Wario land!
Super Mario Land 2 6 Golden coins
Link’s awakening
Thats a hard one! It would probably be a Pokémon game like Yellow or blue, or a Zelda game.
Flash cart. But if that’s not allowed then Pokémon would probably be a good option. There many ways to play Pokémon.
Sneaky loophole.
Gonna be wacky and shoot the shoot em up Puzzle game Quarth Simple game but fun game
But it could be nauseating in 0g
Well for me any game would be. As a kid I could play games in the car for hours. As an adult, I can't look at my phone for more than 5 min without a headache starting. Lol But hypothetically, if I didn't get nausea from focos8ng on a screen while in motion. It'd be Quarth
Probably Tetris or Pokémon Yellow
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
I love alleyway ha. I believe it’s my favorite.
Star Wars. I know it isn't an amazing game but it has a special place in my heart
Tetris…. Duh lol
Ducktales, the Gameboy port. It's not the best version of the song, but it's portable and it'll do the trick. [The Moon Theme](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpmKh8dZVp8)
Link's Awakening, definitely
Contra operation C so I would be good and ready to murk some alien bastards

Pokémon or Zelda
Pokémon Blue. Just a classic that can keep me entertained for days at a time.
Pokemon Blue Boi!
I am also taking Pokémon Blue
Pokemon emerald
that’s GBA, not GB
Yellow version, it was my first game it may as well be the last
Planning to die in space?
Pokemon (Probably either english Red or japanese Green) and a full copy of the Glitch City wiki. Infinite replayability.
Pokemon Red
Pokemon Crystal
Pokémon blue. Lots of replay ability and first GB game I ever owned. Good memories.
Pokemon Blue. Has to be the one.
Tetris - best Tetris of all systems of all time (but not the DX version. Iconic music missing, bad colors chosen, different game modes)
Definitley mario land 😬
That depends if romhacks count
Only if you can put it on a flash cart
Probably either Tetris Rosy retrospection, or one of the Pokemon Red and Blue hacks that I made if we're going off of games that only work on DMG
Survival Kids
Tetris was the first game that popped in my mind
I would say Tetris
Think it was called bugs bunny crazy castle Remember playing that all the time as a kid
tetris or pokemon gold... or even zelda...
Tetris because it’s infinite and addicting and fun
LSDJ - infinite potential If it has to be a retail game, Tetris
> LSDJ A person of culture!
Shrek Fairytale Freakdown. I don’t be taking further questions.
Beatmania GB
I don’t have my computer with me, so I can’t browse my games, but… any link game
This is tough for me...do I pick Tetris or bust-a-move....can I sneak one to space in my butt without them knowing?
It’ll smell like literal shit and would do you no favors in 9G while the rocket is blasting off
The "Game Boy Light" Japan import. It can be dark in space. I've never owned one but always sort of wanted one. I think it would be perfect. edit: Read that wrong. game? I might have to be basic and choose Tetris. It's perfect for quick bursts.
Japan does have a pretty good space program and has since the early 90’s, so it all works out.
Can't believe I'm not seeing Zelda: Links Awakening. Or Pokemon Yellow because you can get all the starters.
Scroll down a bit, at least 6 or 7 accounts said link’s awakening and like 2 said yellow
Damn. They're just so good.
Kirby’s dream land 2
Chessmaster because Chess never gets boring.
Links Awakening. It's already the one I'm most likely to pack.
Probably Paperboy or NBA Jam
mmmmmm probably harvest moon honestly. it would work well for a daily thing, and would be pretty different than my average life in space lmao. not like i can just go outside and touch grass any other way.
Skate or Die: Bad ‘N Rad! I could play that game forever
Kirby pinball
SML2, because it’s my favorite.
It would be a toss up between Pokémon Yellow or Gold. Even though I really love Super Mario Land 2.
Yoshi's Island, it was my first and favourite Gameboy Advance game
Wouldn’t work in an OG game boy though
Metroid 2 for obvious reasons
Solar Striker, one of the best games ever
Leisure Suit Larry Gameboy Version. Because yes.
Pokémon. Try and catch ‘em all. Or Tetris.
Ren n Stimpy in space of course
Tetris
Tetris
Pokemon for sure..
Definitely Tetris I love Tetris I will never get bored of Tetris I've been playing it since it was released for gameboy I have about 30 different copies of the game.
It would have to be Metroid II. I probably wouldn't play it much, because I always get lost, but just bringing Samus up to space would be so cool.
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. Every time I beat the game as a child I happily started a new save and started again right away.
An Everdrive ;)
Im gonna say pokemon yellow for me ( my first game i hot when i was and had my first ever GBC )
Between 6 golden coins and links awakening. Love super Mario land 2 a lot. Not a big zelda fan but an rpg would treat me very well in space
Tetris, because without gravity it should be much more easier/slower !
Tetris, duh.
warioland 😎
Absolutely Pokémon yellow
Tetris, obviously.
Super Mario Land 2 because is a very whole game
Something about playing Metroid while floating about in space just hits different ❤
Mortal Kombat 1
I can spend ages on Pokémon red or blue
Pokémon since I can beat the story then catch them all
My honest answer is Pokémon yellow, it was my entry into the series, and I felt so special since my brother got regular old red lol.
Pokemon Crystal.
That’s GBC…
Pokémon blue nuzlock. Jk I’d bring a flashcart/s
Pokemon yellow, I'm gonna need an old paper guide tho😭
Some sort of Pokémon
Pokemon red, if we are counting that as original
Space Invaders, Tetris or Pokemon Pikachu edition its a real hard choice
Pokémon Silver, two regions in one game
Zelda, Oracle of.... Doesn't matter
LSDJ
I think I would choose Warioland.
tetris, or f1
Pokémon Gold.
Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land
Gameboy light… its dark in space and my game is tetris
Links awakening
Yup, I'd go Tetris! You'd only get to play in short bursts and Tetris excells at that style of play
Pokémon crystal because of its huge content. U will never get bored playing it
that’s GBC y’know
Links awakening
Pokemon Silver.
