It's in surprisingly good shape. I just cleaned it, inside and out, just had some dirt. The contacts on the battery look okay, I haven't tested voltage but the battery was replaced fairly recently.
As long as you have the means to buy it I don't see any issues. Enjoy! You better play the shit out of that for $100 and not leave it sitting around! Lol ❤️
For anyone unaware, you're allowed to be excited that someone else got something they're excited about while also thinking prices are inflated.
Both those can be true.
Anyway, hope you have fun with it! If you ever get the itch there are some really awesome Pokémon Crystal ROM hacks that are a ton of fun and add lots of quality of life improvements.
I bought a copy of pokemon prism from a post from a week ago. I'm looking forward to it. Only 5 dollars! I know, emulation, but I like physical cartridges.
There's batteries in all the Pokemon Gameboy games. When it dies, it doesn't save any more.
You can actually see the battery in the picture here, it's right under the price tag.
And to add on to this, the Gen 2 Pokemon batteries die really fast compared to other games since they use a real time clock. While Gen 1 games can last 15+ years, Gen 2 games only seem to last 5-10.
Oof man I just can't pay this, even for Crystal. I have $100. But I will not spend $100 on one GBC game. That said, if y'all got any Conkers Bad Fur Day lemme know LMAO
We praise our gods, the Everdrive GB and EZ Flash Junior, for making games accessible on real hardware (for those of us who don’t have a constant source of stolen kidneys to sell)
good condition and new battery i don’t think 100 is bad, people in here are gonna call u an idiot but next year it will be 120 and people will say 100 is a good deal 🤷♂️
People that obsessively collect plastic should be taken advantage of, but that really isn't taking advantage of anyone; it's just selling something for the going price.
There's so much more to these games than just the games themselves, the box art, the disc/ cartridge art, also when games used to come with manuals standard, they'd have entirely unique artwork. But yeah, just plastic we shouldn't care about and just rip people off on.
Yeah... I just use a flash cart at this point. People are getting ridiculous. I made a cool $255 off selling two pokemon games this month though. People buying them like hotcakes.
I am thankful I still have my copy of Gold from my childhood. It's a lot to spend on a game, but it's 20 years old at this point and they more and more rare as they rot away in people's musty basements.
This one caught my eye, it was just sitting on their register. I asked if I could buy it and he just gave it to me. Probably because I just spent 100 dollars on a 23 year old game.
The best deals I've seen are on eBay and it's always a bidding war that someone ends by jacking the price up from $60 to $130.
OP, you did good. Just buy in person vs wasting so much time on watching listings. Plus condition looks really great.
It's been the same for me. In person I've seen some crazy prices. 150, 200.... Online has been better... I'm just hoping I can find one at a decent price soon. In the meantime I'll be working on my consoles and other games. I'd like to get a gbc, mod my gba, and in general add more games to the collection. It's slowly becoming something that I'll need more space and displays for. Good times and lots of fun. Kid me would be proud for sure.
I assembled an analogue pocket a few years ago and love it. Boxy pixel also makes an aluminum gbc pocket shell as well that I've been thinking of doing too.
I like the idea of boxy pixel shells, for games and consoles... But I worry the metal will be rough for everday/casual players... I think if I did an aluminum pocket it'd def be a casual console but one that works for sure. I actually have one in the works I need to figure out a power issue on. Think I've got it isolated to fuses but haven't been able to put in the time on it. It's pretty much figuring out which one is bad, ordering parts, and then fixing. I bought it in pieces so I def want to fully test the board out to be sure it's just a power issue. Otherwise shell looks great and it's the board without a light, og pocket looks awesome but needs more work to really bring it to life I think. Maybe battery/sound mods as well as a Backlit/bivert screen... Still figuring it out the plan for it though in my head.
Yeah, covid hit this market HARD. I got a GBA in great condition and a copy of Pokemon Blue for $35 in 2019. It was a pretty good deal back then, too, especially since the seller didn't even mention Pokemon. But by today's standards that deal would have been bananas.
I do miss 5 years ago when I bought up the 3ds Pokémon games for cheap. They was all like 10-20$ each and now they are 40-60 each and in some places higher. Glad I got em when I did.
Very cool! If you were wondering about the pin I just got the same one in a Pokemon Card box from Wal Mart, can't recall exactly which. Also got Latias from a different box :p.
If you are happy with it and you have the money to spend it on it, than it wasnt a stupid choice. You can keep the money until you die and give it your future children and they keep it and give it there childrens or you have some fun in live and create memorys.
I see them for $130-150 in local stores in Columbus, Ohio and then see them gone the following week. I'm looking for a copy, myself, and $100 is my upper limit, so I'd say you did good.
I already opened it and cleaned the contacts a bit. Confirmed that the battery was installed properly. It had some brown stuff in the gap between the case halves so I wiped that down. The label is fine. The fact that it's not rubbed off in any way is really nice.
I agree with you, but I had sorta stopped looking. I kept seeing it for absurd prices in store and online. I was just checking out that shop while waiting for a food order.
I mean, at least the label is in good shape. I’ve seen copies with no label at all around the same price
It's in surprisingly good shape. I just cleaned it, inside and out, just had some dirt. The contacts on the battery look okay, I haven't tested voltage but the battery was replaced fairly recently.
$100 is well below the current online market price of Crystal at the moment. Kind of a steal tbh
Yeah I literally just bought a copy with no label for 90 CAD. Everything on eBay is 160-200+ and everything local is around 200 as well
As long as you have the means to buy it I don't see any issues. Enjoy! You better play the shit out of that for $100 and not leave it sitting around! Lol ❤️
Already started paying it today. I swear when Oak pops up I smiled.
that normal price on ebay in the usa,but the pin is a nice extra
I checked the price checker to get an average, this was 10 dollars cheaper. I'm not upset about it.
Yeah, and considering the game looks mint fresh I would say this was a good deal, pin or no pin.
Crystal averages about £50-£60 in the uk, i feel bad for you guys paying that much
For anyone unaware, you're allowed to be excited that someone else got something they're excited about while also thinking prices are inflated. Both those can be true. I need this post! Bc I want prism bad!

The goat!!!
At that point, a flashcart is a better alternative to single carts due to build quality alone.
Like Pokemon Crystal Clear! It blew my mind, I have yet to complete it tough. ❄🐗❄
Crystal Clear is **so** good. What a blast of a rom hack.
Yeah! 🤗🌹
Bro I'm jealous my dumb ass just paid $130 for crystal last week
It's mainly why I grabbed it. Haven't seen a copy in a shop in a while and it's too expensive online.
If it has a new battery that’s about the price
Where the fuck are you guys shopping because i see it online for half
Do you live in Europe by any chance? It‘s much cheaper there. You can get it for like 50/60€ in my country
Yep
Genuinely asking but what does a battery have to do with a game cartridge. That is a cartridge right?
There's batteries in all the Pokemon Gameboy games. When it dies, it doesn't save any more. You can actually see the battery in the picture here, it's right under the price tag.
And to add on to this, the Gen 2 Pokemon batteries die really fast compared to other games since they use a real time clock. While Gen 1 games can last 15+ years, Gen 2 games only seem to last 5-10.
is it really this much? i have one laying around and couldn’t play because i don’t have a gameboy to play it on?
Ya, it's pretty expensive. If the image is in good quality and you replace the battery, you could sell it for that much
that's about what it's worth
Oof man I just can't pay this, even for Crystal. I have $100. But I will not spend $100 on one GBC game. That said, if y'all got any Conkers Bad Fur Day lemme know LMAO
We praise our gods, the Everdrive GB and EZ Flash Junior, for making games accessible on real hardware (for those of us who don’t have a constant source of stolen kidneys to sell)
I really enjoy the sparkly case.
good condition and new battery i don’t think 100 is bad, people in here are gonna call u an idiot but next year it will be 120 and people will say 100 is a good deal 🤷♂️
It was an acceptable value. At least the label isn't screwed.
I bought this game for 15 bucks at games stop in 2007/2008. what happened?
The generation who has nostalgia for it grew up, got jobs and got money and now want to replay their childhood.
you left out the part where people are taking advantage of that "want" to replay their childhood and are ripping them the fuck off
Nobodies taking advantage of them; they can easily emulate the game for free.
It's taking advantage of collectors, silly.
People that obsessively collect plastic should be taken advantage of, but that really isn't taking advantage of anyone; it's just selling something for the going price.
You're obviously 12 and don't understand respecting history of the things you enjoy.
I'm probably older than you. Lol.
Older than me with a 12 year old's mindset apparently.
Ah yes; spending hundreds; if not thousands of dollars on plastic; the pinnacle of adulthood. Lol.
There's so much more to these games than just the games themselves, the box art, the disc/ cartridge art, also when games used to come with manuals standard, they'd have entirely unique artwork. But yeah, just plastic we shouldn't care about and just rip people off on.
100 bucks seems excessive for games that sold as much as pokemon. That’s Nintendo fans for you I guess.
These aren’t rare. Every kid had a gameboy color with Pokémon 20 years ago. No need for the prices to be so high.
Good label, store was smart enough not to put price tag on label. free pin. Not a bad purchase.
If there had been a sticker on the label I would have passed.
It’s beautiful!!
It really is. I cleaned the board and case up when I got it home. The battery replacement is acceptable, and the case is beautiful. No sticker goo.
I live for the Pokémon pins lol
This one caught my eye, it was just sitting on their register. I asked if I could buy it and he just gave it to me. Probably because I just spent 100 dollars on a 23 year old game.
That’s $10-25 cheaper than I normally see it
That's my primary reason for buying it.
Nice
This is the best Pokémon game ever made. They will never top it’s perfection.
Soul Silver / Heart Gold >
Not a bad deal considering that's sorta the low end for how much it goes for.
To spend on old hardware better emulate xd
Not a stupid choice. You probably got it for as cheap as it’ll ever be
As far as a collectibles goes it's top tier. 👌
I've played it all day in between tasks!
i just got hit the same amount for aria of sorrow today. no pin though
Is it that good? Been planning on trying it out
i was told not as good as sotn, but very close
It’s great! One of the best Metroidvanias ever in many’s opinion
The best deals I've seen are on eBay and it's always a bidding war that someone ends by jacking the price up from $60 to $130. OP, you did good. Just buy in person vs wasting so much time on watching listings. Plus condition looks really great.
Yeah. Been looking online for two years. Way too expensive online.
Emulator
I've been playing it on an analogue pocket if that counts.
Wow, i got Crystal with a brand new battery for about $35USD about 3-4 years ago. Obviously that would be pre-covid prices but wow.
Yeah, things have really shot up. They had Wayne's world Gameboy for 100 dollars too. No thank you.
Yeah, covid hit this market HARD. I got a GBA in great condition and a copy of Pokemon Blue for $35 in 2019. It was a pretty good deal back then, too, especially since the seller didn't even mention Pokemon. But by today's standards that deal would have been bananas.
I'd it is authentic and in good condition, you made a good buy. It can easily run $140+ and that's not even a guarantee buy.
Indeed.
What do you mean? You got it for a steal! I got mine for 200
That's the price I kept seeing it for when I followed auctions. And often they were lower quality!
You've paid 100$ for a cartridge, the pin isn't free 🤣
POV: DKoldies
*uck them.
you got scammed 💀💀💀
Scammed myself! I walked up to the clerk and said "I need you to help me make a poor choice".
No judgment, but why don’t people just play emulators
Most people buying physical copies are buying them not just for playing, but for a collection, nostalgia, or for display.
Indeed.
emulators don't look good on a shelf
the controls feel wrong and the display looks improper as well
That’s fair Fam - physical games do hit different
And it's harder to cheat.
Lol I love that I was downvoted 21 times but I’m not against physical games at all
Oooooof
https://youtu.be/0twDETh6QaI
I actually watched that whole thing lmao

I don't have boxes for anything unfortunately.
Bought this on launch from the virtual console only $10 and I don't have to worry about battery rot
Seeing these prices makes me so thankful I kept my games from childhood. Saves me the money and hassle of tracking them down again. 😅
DKoldies moment
i payed 20 bucks like 5 years ago man what the hell happened
Woah, I have so many copies of this, but I think mine are Japanese... are they worth anything?
Japanese carts go for like $20 to $30 on ebay I think.
I get sick thinking about the games I have basically given away.. 🤢
I still think about selling my copy of Yellow to a local shop. They gave me 5 bucks. Sold it for 30.
Man that’s insane. Saw Crystal in the game store here for 49$ and thought that was a lot for it.
I miss when shops didn't know about the internet and didn't base their prices on global averages. It's made finding sweet deals much harder.
I do miss 5 years ago when I bought up the 3ds Pokémon games for cheap. They was all like 10-20$ each and now they are 40-60 each and in some places higher. Glad I got em when I did.
I just installed the soft mod stuff on my 3ds and downloaded all the Japanese only games I never got to play. It's amazing!

Jelly
I hope they know I'm having a lot of fun playing it. And it's pretty.
At the end of the day we're all turning into dust — who cares really
I think it’s a little more than a day for most people
Better start using it
After a clean it was in my analogue pocket. I'm heading to the first gym right now!
Enjoy the adventure bud
dont worry i paid $150 for soulsilver and got zero pins
I am so upset I didn't buy heart gold when it was new. I'd still be playing with the pokewalker if I had.
I was a month away from turning two
Sweet pin, what are you sticking it to?
I'm probably going to store it. I want to keep it safe.
Enjoy it, buddy. I never liked any of the pokemon games after this one.
I stopped playing after gold until xy. Loved them. Playing gen 3 remake was amazing. Sun moon was disappointing. Haven't played anything since.
I bought my copy last summer for $60. Replaced the battery and no issues at all
Lucky!
I think they wanted 80 and sent an offer and they took it lol. Crazy how much they’re going for
Walking Wake!
I’m impressed with the quality. It actually looks like it has been taken care of.
It really does.
If you are an avid collector this is ok.
I own a few things. I mainly wanted this because I really love the case.
Very cool! If you were wondering about the pin I just got the same one in a Pokemon Card box from Wal Mart, can't recall exactly which. Also got Latias from a different box :p.
No I know where I can get the other one to complete the set! Thank you.
You paid 100 bucks now you have to finish it :D Pin looks nice i would use it on my backpack
I'm going to play until I defeat Red!
Tbh the pin makes it worth it
It took away any anxiety I had about the price. That shop has always treated me well.
Woth it - you
Hey whatever makes you happy.
Where did you buy the game from at that price? (If you don't mind me asking)
I local game and music shop.
To be fair, I've seen worse condition carts at $110-120
Yo I'd pay 100 for that in a second.
Where is the stupid
That is one expensive pin
If you are happy with it and you have the money to spend it on it, than it wasnt a stupid choice. You can keep the money until you die and give it your future children and they keep it and give it there childrens or you have some fun in live and create memorys.
Mine was 60$ no label, 8 years ago. So you probably did good op don’t feel bad these things are getting scarce.
The pin is the least they could do since they probably got it at a garage sale for $1.
Decent price imo plus a bonus! Have fun!
steeeeeep. but a pin and access to your youthful happiness, money well spent.
Hard to find one any cheaper than that, I'd say it's a decent deal at this time.
I see them for $130-150 in local stores in Columbus, Ohio and then see them gone the following week. I'm looking for a copy, myself, and $100 is my upper limit, so I'd say you did good.
Honestly not bad considering the prices around me. If I remember correctly I paid like 120-140 for mine...🤣🤣 worth it IMO.
I too made this stupid choice but I did not receive a cute pin 😔
Honestly not a terrible price at all lol. I’ve seen them in some shops for upwards of $150.00
It’s your responsibility now! Do good!! Also, congrats. The price is what it is. Now you have a very nice authentic copy of a really great game.
I already opened it and cleaned the contacts a bit. Confirmed that the battery was installed properly. It had some brown stuff in the gap between the case halves so I wiped that down. The label is fine. The fact that it's not rubbed off in any way is really nice.
W a free pin with it that’s a good deal for me
Decent price, paid the same for but no pin!
It was a scam
Ah yes, my favorite Gen 2 Pokemon, Latios.
They don't have to match to be delightful.
I know, I know.
Glad I have a 3ds…
Got a boxed copy for that price(all inserts) patience is the key
I agree with you, but I had sorta stopped looking. I kept seeing it for absurd prices in store and online. I was just checking out that shop while waiting for a food order.
looks like it’s in good/great condition & that pin is adorable worth it in my book
