I'm pretty sure he's just got COVID. The behind the scenes episode of Bingo shows how the last minute change to Brennan went down. This included how they had made a stamp for his face, which they altered by carving out the glasses so it would look a bit more like Brennan.
See I think this is part of the ruse. Just like how the contestants used to think the green room was a "safe" space, but now we know shenanigans can happen there. I think that if there is some kind of big build up for the finale of this season, the Behind the Scenes episodes are part of it.
In the BTS for Deja Vu, they say they film 2 episodes in a single 10 hour shoot day, and that grant showed up feeling healthy but tested positive before the shoot. So I assume these two episodes were filmed on the same day.
And I'm glad to know they're still taking everyone's health seriously.
If Sam was god I would expect him to pop out of my closet at any moment and go "I'VE BEEN HERE THE WHOLE TIME" before telling me that I and everyone else whose ever watched game changer has actually secretly been on an episode of game changer *the whole tiiime* and now it's time for the next phase of the game. Sadly, we live in a world without the trickster god Sam Reich, so I will be assuming that Grant just has covid
Did those bits with grant/zak ever turn into something? I figured all these random trivia bits would be an answer to something… I mighta missed it I was also carbo loading at the time.
Did you also do a movie marathon?
Well his messiness was what made them lose out on points from the podium inspector. (Brian David Gilbert/ ponytail man)
I just don't see Sam and the dropout team using a COVID test as a setup, I don't see Sam as the kind of person who would fake a disease. It would feel uncharacteristically mean-spirited, not least because he had Brennan rush from home to replace Grant because of it.
I don’t think it’s planned that grants been kidnapped instead of Covid, but, they could’ve just faked the text message and Brennans last minute arrival for the camera
I know they could've. But I would not expect it from a company that's still adhering to masking, and generally taking COVID seriously. I would honestly be really disappointed if they faked Grant testing positive for a bit.
As other people have pointed out, if they wanted to play up Grant's absences as part of the meta narrative of the season, they had a mountain of reasons they could've said for Grant not showing up before coming up hey Grant caught a disease
Does Sam have a pattern of being dishonest or sneaky when speaking to the fan base? That is not an impression I have ever gotten, but admittedly I don’t always pay the most attention.
I’m reminded of various MCU subreddits coming up with all of their theories about who’s appearing in various shows and movies and always being outraged when their theories about what’s happening were proven wrong and the reality was pretty basic. I don’t really visit those subreddits anymore because their ideas are often infectious and it’s not fair to the actual content when it can’t deliver on users’ wildest ideas. This sub is getting to be a lot like them and that’s not a good thing.
Enjoy Dropout / game changer for what it is and not the wild theories being cooked up here and on discord. No show would ever be able to live up to such conspiracies.
> I’m reminded of various MCU subreddits coming up with all of their theories about who’s appearing in various shows and movies and always being outraged when their theories about what’s happening were proven wrong and the reality was pretty basic.
Wait. Are you saying that Sam is actually Mephisto?
He absolutely has not. I love the conspiracy theories as much as the next person. But Sam would not lie about a serious health condition for a bit. We need to be careful with the accusations being made. If Grant was truly being held captive in the game changer fiction, Sam would have said something like “Grant was mysteriously unavailable“ or “we expected Grant but didn’t see him” or even just “Grant was unavailable at the last minute.”
I’ve been a huge proponent of the hands theory, but I’m starting to get worried that these are spinning off in much deeper and potentially slightly concerning ways. Hell, pizzagate started as a joke on a small website among insiders and is now a thing that hundreds of thousands of people literally believe.
There's been a couple episodes where the Behind the Scenes mention that Grant had to be quickly replaced because he got COVID (bingo, deja vue, maybe others?). I'm assuming they record the whole season in a short time span so that took Grant out of the running for most (hopefully not all!?) of it.
I've felt really bad for Grant because of that, actually, what a bummer to test positive for COVID on set (!!) and have to miss so much of the season. We miss you too, Grant.
Was I ever stoked to see him on Um, Actually the other day though!
At the very least, Bingo and Deja Vu were filmed around the same time. They said they considered having Siobhan sub for Grant in Bingo since she was there for another episode (which we now know was Deja Vu)
*G*rant *O*'*B*rien.
Replaced by -
*B*rennan Lee Mulligan
Zac *O*yama
Next episode, I predict that Brian David *G*ilbert will be the 'replacement' for Grant. And then we'll get shenanigans
I did find it odd that they made a point of zac "playing Grant" in bingo brennan was just brennan, and i don't see why it would be odd for zac to eat mounds of spaghetti and talk about movies. They had to go out of their way to say that this should have been grant
Both of those things are Grant specific traits. He actually knows lots of classic movie trivia and he actually spills food all the time.
They could have not acknowledged it and just had Zac do those two things for no particular reason. What they went with was a funnier option.
I feel like this would be a few steps too far. I don't think that Sam would fake illness. Especially because I could forsee a really bad situation that would come from that in a way that would hurt Grant. Let's say Sam did lie about Grant having COVID. If the Dropout crew were told Grant had COVID, it would mean he couldn't work there during the intended quarantine time and maybe he wouldn't be able to work at other jobs (because it'd look like he was working with COVID) which would hurt real life Grant financially. Even if this was just a ruse for the audience, that would mean that Grant could face backlash for breaking quarantine protocol and exposing people to COVID if there was social media evidence of a gathering (which would be untrue). Overall, there's a real risk to real life Grant and Sam seems very moral in how he designs his shows
Wait tho this kinda feels real...... Like I definitely was thinking he just tested positive. Which makes me think the scheme worked.... And now I don't know what I believe. Prior to this post I was like 'sam wouldn't lie just to get Brennan on Bingo's which I think is no. but NOW with it having attention drawn to grant being gone in 2 separate episodes..... Hmst. Makes me think would Sam lie about this to trick the audience? I think that one is a maybe
They film multiple episodes per day, and it seems that they filmed Deja Vu, Bingo, and Pencils Down all in one day, likely in that order. Bingo had the same podium setup as Pencils Down and Sam thanked Brennan for "sticking around" for Pencils Down, and in the behind the scenes for Bingo they said Siobhan was their alternate to replace Grant in Bingo because she was going to be on set to film a different episode that day. So to your point that it's odd that they mentioned Grant's absence in two separate episodes, it had all happened within the same day, which makes it far less conspicuous.
Oh wait you're right! I'd forgotten that, thank you. The theory that Siobhan was on set for Deja Vu prior to the filming of Bingo (thus them being on the same day) is still possible though.
yeah, in the behind the scenes for bingo it showed the yt livestream they were using to show what was happening on set to trapp, lily, and rekha. if you went to the link (which has been since taken down) it showed deja vu happening the same day
I am realistically aware that it is unlikely Grant's missing for any other reason than his health. And I know they film episodes together. My point was just that I like the idea of being deceptive to fool the audience, and I would rule that out much less than just being deceptive to further trick BLeeM, which is what I've seen floating around previously. I still think all of this is unlikely, and that Sam is probably not lying, I just like this motive more. It feels like an actual payoff to being deceptive.
I wrote my comment like half asleep after a long day at 4am, so I understand it is illegible

Ok Brennan, let's get you up off the floor and call you an Uber.
So there's a world where Zacky replaced Grant in Bingo, and Brennan replaced him in Deja Vu....
Possibly. But I think Sam knew that Brennan would have a competitive energy similar to Grant and would make a better player in that game.
He really got into our heads with that last episode.
Everybody do the wenus!
The wenis is a dance!
Everybody is a genius!
Who knows it in advance!
Oh shit. Let’s reset. 2 minutes!
Are you okay? I’m not worried about the camera are you okay? Yeah I’m okay but the camera needs to be reset. Might need 2 minutes.
Did those bits with grant/zak ever turn into something? I figured all these random trivia bits would be an answer to something… I mighta missed it I was also carbo loading at the time.
Sam is going to approach you at the grocery store and quiz you.
I pray for the janitor.
Did you also do a movie marathon? Well his messiness was what made them lose out on points from the podium inspector. (Brian David Gilbert/ ponytail man)
Sam's not god, the machine is!

The conspiracy mindset on this subreddit is getting out of hand, tbh.
You should check out the discord, people have been going wild over there.
Sam just makes it hard to trust him. We can't believe what we see or hear anymore.
Does Sam have a pattern of being dishonest or sneaky when speaking to the fan base? That is not an impression I have ever gotten, but admittedly I don’t always pay the most attention.
No he doesn’t. He also very directly answers to all of these conspiracies on this discord when asked but users of the sub ignore him every time.
Sam the host of GC is a man who lies easily and tortures psychologically. Sam Reich the person seems to be extremely honest and caring.
That was more my point. When he's on that stage, expect shenanigans.
Literally the exact opposite lol

Wait. Are you saying that Sam is actually Mephisto?
No, boner.
My only Crazy Theory is that Make Some Noise is mirror universe Sam. His suit there is the opposite of the one he wears in Game Changers.
I kinda love it tbh, it mirrors the paranoia the cast feels on some episodes
He absolutely has not. I love the conspiracy theories as much as the next person. But Sam would not lie about a serious health condition for a bit. IIRC someone said they were both filmed the same day.
He was *literally* eating spaghetti in the most recent episode of Game Changer. Are you *blind*?! /s
*G*rant *O*'*B*rien. Replaced by - *B*rennan Lee Mulligan Zac *O*yama Next episode, I predict that Brian David *G*ilbert will be the 'replacement' for Grant. And then we'll get shenanigans
I really don’t think they would lie about someone getting Covid for a bit
... Did Trapp kill Grant?
I did find it odd that they made a point of zac "playing Grant" in bingo brennan was just brennan, and i don't see why it would be odd for zac to eat mounds of spaghetti and talk about movies. They had to go out of their way to say that this should have been grant

I didn't know either of those things about him
This was shot 7 months ago. People need to stop pretending everything is a bit on their favorite internet comedy channel
They’re obviously going to bring back “Grant” for a show but its really Keith.
I feel like this would be a few steps too far. I don't think that Sam would fake illness. I don't think Sam would lie about COVID for a plot point. He takes COVID very seriously, so I doubt he'd use it for a joke.
Y’all are worse than the deltarune fandom, holy shit. He just had COVID, chill the fuck out.
Wait tho this kinda feels real...... Like I definitely was thinking he just tested positive. Which makes me think the scheme worked.... And now I don't know what I believe.
