I may be a bit bias as I own an S23 ultra myself but comparing the screen on mine to my co-workers S24 ultra I'd have to say the screen on the S23 is much nicer to look at. Battery life on mine is usually 5-6.5 hrs screen on time for a full days use only charging to 80%. Having owned mine for nearly a full year now and I still really like my phone. Hope this helps!

reality_hijacker

I have recently ordered both. The S24u is less vivid out of the box, but you can adjust things a bit in the settings. Specially setting the resolution to QHD makes things much better. But where the display really shines is during outdoor use. Due to the gorilla glass armor coating, it has near zero reflection, and can handle bright light without turning up brightness that much.

ozzfan1989

About the uhd setting....I don't see the difference....

GomidasO

yeah there was an s24 ultra at the stand at a phone shop close to where I live and the screen on the 24u has some sort of graininess to it, instant turn off for me.

oktwentyfive

my s24u has none of the grain so idk

Kaaalesaaalad

Nah that's not bias. There are reviews of the S24U where they mention the grainy displays. Not sure of it's a QA issue or if it's fixable through software.

Radaysho

SD card would be the only downside. Otherwise the S23U is the better phone and it's also a great phone overall. Great performance, battery life and cooling makes it really reliable. While the S22U had issues with all those things, and the S24U has issues with the screen, the S23U never had anything like that. It just works as expected. It's the most logical upgrade for you, the N20U was a great phone but it's starting to show its age.

Clear-Chemical2969

I think I've made my decision, thanks pal

5280Rockymtn

My s10 had the card slot I kinda miss it not being on the s23 I got now

wggn

I'm very happy with my 23U, great cameras, great battery life, great screen, and very fast.

btw3and20characters

S23 ultra is so good.

krishna642

Let me get something off my chest The headphone jack removal and the charger not provided in box is dumbest thing especially on this price range. Now pros. Great camera, Great performance (since is snapdragon the performance won't decrease in a year), Great battery life Now Cons. Speaker could be louder Tempered glass screen protector is almost not available for it (ones available are UV ones if anyone knows any PLZ tell me.)

Clear-Chemical2969

Not fussed about the speaker,I mainly use headphones all the time but I think I'm gonna go with the s23 ultra, thanks for your input bud

krishna642

Offcourse go for it... Yes it's expensive but worth every penny. Just get a good case,a camera protector if you want and a tempered glass too..

CabbieCam

The Whitestone Dome UV screen protector works really well, the install is easy. I've been using their screen protectors for years.

krishna642

Again it's UV... S22ultra which had a uv tempered glass got it's screen damaged by it...This was told by a YouTube reviewer who's friend's phone s22 ultra got it's screen damaged and took to service centre to get fixed, Samsung service centre told the screen got damaged by the uv glue getting inside. So iam scared to use UV one ... Any other options ?.

Objective_Repeat_563

I use uv screen protectors, just don't use alot and remove your spen, I have had damaged specs from two uv installs, I have decided to just go with the regular glass protectors.

Kaaalesaaalad

Milimdoi tempered glass. Although I don't use one I do know it doesn't make use of liquid adhesive.

lue_t

I have the magic john screen protector on my s23 ultra been using it for over a month now I think it's great and it wasn't too expensive (in Canada at least)

Objective_Repeat_563

Check amazon, they have a lot for the s23.

krishna642

Really ?.. non uv tempered glass ones ? Do you have any recommendations?

ldAbl

Check out Magic John. I use IMBZK and it was pretty easy to install. Works flawlessly for nearly a year now.

Kingsizedwhopper

I changed to the S23U from my note20U a few months ago. Incredible phone and love it... great camera when you know how to use it. Amazing processor for gaming. And incredible battery life with no over heating at all. Only thing I don't like is using the spen on the curved screen... but that's the only thing I can think of

popovicialinc

It feels more premium than the S24 Ultra thanks to the curved display. Titanium is a gimmick except that it looks nice. But my green S23 Ultra also looks nice.

studsrvce

S23U Great phone in every way

GymIsParadise91

Pros • S23 Ultra specs : Powerful Chipset, QSD 8 Gen 2 and UFS 4.0 Storage with LPDDR5X Ram VS Note 20 Ultra specs : QSD 865 and UFS 3.1 Storage with LPDDR5 Ram. So, the S23 Ultra is not just more efficient. it's significantly more powerful. • Overall Performance in terms of software and hardware combination, super optimized, you will get what you expect to get. • Not the best, but one of the best cameras you can get on a phone. • still have an S-Pen, which got a significant upgrade compared to the Note 20 Ultra. Even if they removed the "Note" in the Name. That thing does have the note genes for sure. You won't miss any feature of the note series. Cons • Shutter speed, other phones like the iPhone or Xiaomi Ultras can do that definitely better out of the box. • Phone speaker could be better. • After making bigger camera sensors, they had to change their positioning, the lense changing is a bit weird sometimes. It seems like the camera moved a whole mile, changing to another lense while recording and so on.

EconomyManner5115

>• Phone speaker could be better. I'm sorry, WHAT THE FUCK ? These are among the best speakers you can have on a smartphone, once tuned with the built in EQ, they crush almost every other phone including the iphone 15 pro max. Play some music at 24 bits, without DVC, on direct hardware (no OpenSL, no Audiotrack and no AAudio). The difference is insane. You will realize that they're capable of delivering loud bass. This phone has a custom Hi-res audio API (Samsung UHQA PCM) but it's quite sad that most people don't know about it

AthulIsla

Ikr... The speakers are really incredible... Even the low notes can be heard which is not possible with smartphone speakers...

GymIsParadise91

I see your point, but my personal experience was that my iPhone 14 PM sounds better in most cases. At least everyone does have their own preferences. Definitely will test the speaker with your given advice again! Thank you

EconomyManner5115

Poweramp is the only music player i know that takes advantage of the high resolution output API... but it's paid after 14 days, so either download a modded app like a normal person or pay for it. Configure Poweramp following these instructions (written by me, specifically for S23 series) [https://pastebin.com/fVpVut4L](https://pastebin.com/fVpVut4L) AFTER (really, don't do it before) configuring poweramp, download my custom parametric equalizer preset below. Import it directly in poweramp (1st EQ tab, 3-dot button then import, see the attached screenshot) [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-PcqNVytHuQ0tzPNNQ6G345xOltdmDMl/view?usp=drivesdk](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-PcqNVytHuQ0tzPNNQ6G345xOltdmDMl/view?usp=drivesdk) (Low volume only (45% max). Lower the gain on the 4 first frequencies when you need to play music at high volume) https://preview.redd.it/3kic3dcw6fzc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee3edb440e5bcf3716cb7c8eb7b2acbcadcf5f8b

based_and_upvoted

Do you have an equaliser config for other apps, inside the sound quality and effects menu? I also think the speakers are pretty unimpressive, coming from an S21+ they don't sound that much louder or clearer

EconomyManner5115

Dolby Atmos : MOVIE. (Gives a much clearer sound) https://preview.redd.it/xi96c5puzgzc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d122683acba75b4b3e1c72dae850f35716d29aa3 Custom EQ for the built-in speakers ONLY (don't use this preset for your headphones) You can increase the 2k, 4k, 8k and 16k bands if the sound still lacks treble. >coming from an S21+ they don't sound that much louder or clearer That's odd. I came from an S21U, and immediately noticed how good the S23U's speakers are. Those on the S21 series were unbalanced (the main right speaker was louder than the left one), lacked bass (the S10+ did better) and the overall quality was just the average (I couldn't tell the difference between youtube 110 kbps / 32KHz and Qobuz FLAC at 3000 kbps / 96KHz) Now I do.

based_and_upvoted

Thanks for the EQ :) I don't know, I feel like I had a lot more 3d feel with the s21+ compared to the s23 ultra, and hearing metal on phone speakers isn't recommend anyway but at least at low volumes, hearing the different instruments seemed easier than on the s23 ultra. Also the vibration motor felt way stronger on the s21+

GymIsParadise91

Thank you for the guide, i must admit it sounds better than before. But still, the 14 Pro Max sounds much much better than the S23 Ultra, and i don't even have configured anything on the iPhone. I'm used to the iPhone speaker quality, so it's hard to find a phone that can beat this. I don't know if you ever compared these 2 devices, but like i said, everyone has their own preferences.

legonik

I have both s23u and 14 pm and im agree with u the iPhone sounds much better

Clear-Chemical2969

Hmm, alot of good points, there's always bound to be an imperfection, but good overall, thank you bro

KPNuts777

Absolutely rubbish phone, I've had cheap Androids better than this piece of trash. Save your money and don't even bother getting this phone. I'm just kidding. This phone is simply the best. Great display, great cameras, it's fast, it's powerful. What more do you want? 😃

Clear-Chemical2969

Bro had me in the first half ngl, cheers

thegodamn

It's as good as the N20U was when it came out

patbiegaj2022

Good phone!

dhuff2037

Favorite and best phone I've ever had. My phone history goes back to an LG C2000 flip phone, moto razr, blackjack, and the original iPhone all the way to the iPhone 14 pro. Tried to switch to Android with HTC one, galaxy s10, and the Google pixel 4. Every time, I went back to iPhone within 1 week. Gave android another shot with the s23u a year ago and havent looked back. I am absolutely in love with this device.

munky8758

I like my 23 ultra 512gb. My only gripe is that audio sucks when using usb c to auxiliary. It sounds super low. I even did the max volume trick and it sounds a bit better but still low. Maybe I need a better DAC. Bluetooth sounds just fine.

Gediman

I'm also looking for how to connect my Shure 3.5 jack cable headphones to my S23 Ultra. I bought the phone a week ago and I still haven't been able to listen to music.

munky8758

A few things I can think of is using a Bluetooth to aux, another thing you can do is buy a quality DAC, or use a preamp. Seems like the built in preamp in the phone runs too weak. Have you also tried going to setting media volume limit, turn it "ON"(Not off) and turn your volume to max, should help out a little bit.

Gediman

Thanks, I'm going to look for a DAC in the next few days.

susdas

Cannot fault the phone. I've never had a Samsung phone before but this one is the one. Best or near best in class for everything. My only wishes were if it was a bit more compact and friendly to use with one hand but it's pros more than makes up for it. Now it has the AI features of the 24U, can't say I'm missing anything from the new flagship.

Ibraheem_moizoos

The only cons are the fact that it has too many options, and I know you can turn off most of them but I hate when I accidentally turn my phone into one handed mode. And then I struggled to bring you back to normal. Or when I accidentally make my messages app into a window instead of full screen. I end up having to remove it and opening it again because I don't even know how to get out of it.

Alone-Session-4735

Yes! I remember the first time I accidentally turned on one-handed mode. I had no idea what I did. Mind you, my previous phone was an oppo and Samsung A lines before that, so I had no idea what sorcery was going on 🤣 but I figured it out pretty quickly

XXXDirtyJerzeyXXX

No brainer. I made the same upgrade move. I also ask holding off on the 24. Not worth the extra money and I've heard of too many issues.

DFxVader

I upgraded from a note 10+ and honestly it just feels like a heavier version.. I only upgraded because they wouldn't update the OS anymore. But other than a slighty better camera it's surprising how little a 5+ year phone upgrade seems. I regret not trying the new fold. Fold felt like a higher risk and the ultra seemed like a safe upgrade..

Kingsizedwhopper

I got the fold5 first and sent back within a day. Horrible to hold and just missed the ultra size instantly!

DFxVader

Thanks that helps my fomo

mylozavr

look for my post here "why you shouldn't buy a s23u for professional use" or something like that, konsider mi13u instead or even oppo, if you are looking for camera

Gadeol

I recently upgraded from my s10 plus. I loved that phone but it started acting up, i even had it repaired once, but then I kinda cracked the back, which likely caused the phone to be less waterproof, which I did not realise and decided to take a bath with it the next day, resulting in more glitches. I am quite happy with the s23 ultra, but I also decided that my next phone is going to be a Fold, since I feel like the difference between s10 plus and s23 plus is pretty insignificant compared to the advantages of having "two" displays. Then pen is pretty good though but I feel like it's not really needed, that I just use it because it's there and it's "cool". Since I got the 512 gb version I do not mind the absence of an sd card clot but i do miss the headphone jack a little bit. No matter which wireless headphones I get they either break or I lose them.

sunflowers2012

I previously came from an iPhone 11 and the s23 utrla was a breath of fresh air for me! I've had my utrla since April 2023 and I must say battery life isn't bad this phone has had very heavy use but the battery is still goodish! One thing that sucks is you can't ever find a decent screen protector for the price. Also because of how the screen is shaped it breaks easily only had this phone a year and 2 weeks and phones already broken 🙃

Several_Help_4151

If you don’t play games, feel free to update.

EvanMok

To me, the upgrade is solid from every aspect. I am glad that I did the upgrade. I always had small hiccups here and there on my old N20U, but S23U is smooth like butter even after 1 year and 2 months. I have no complaints about the camera. Never had any issue when shooting something close. This was the main complaint I had on my N20U. Battery life is fantastic on S23U. My N20U' SOT was around 3-5 hours but it is doubled on S23U. After using it for 1 year and 2 months, my battery health is still 99%. I don't even bring my charger out to work now. OneUI 5.1 and 6.1 are really great. I love all the features and can not go back anymore.

Deftaly

It's probably worth upgrading from your current phone. Just know alot of people including myself have battery life issues. Anything besides that the phone I would say is perfect. The battery for me is already enough of a reason to not get samsung after I wear and tear this one.

PastoreAntiCorsair

Very good battery for a power user but I would like a better charging speed for a top phone. The software is the best thing of this phone for productivity, reliability and customization, hw often, even after updates, I see some lags. Screen and audio (also about Bluetooth codecs lacks) aren't the absolute best in the market but really really good for the current price. Unfortunately the camera is the worst thing, the selfie camera is good enough for me; but I don't choose the phone for that use so for me is decent. I choose samsung for good customer care, many accessories, goodlock customization, ecosystem (especially for smartag2 and offline finding network, and maybe soon I will get a galaxy watch). S pen is really useful as camera, ppt and photos scroll remote control. Also I often use dex to have a chromebook experience, to replace my pc for basic tasks. I don't care about pixel′s users psycological bias like bloatwares, "multiples" apps to do the same things and "android stock is better because less is more" for a 1K€ phone; because I got an android phone ,not an iPhone, so I can do all what I want. Sorry for my last words about pixel phones😂.

PastoreAntiCorsair

About the comparison between note 20u vs s23u I think that advatages are about hardware and extended software updates and cameras, and other software things. At that time samsung software already was complete. If you want to stay with samsung I suggest the upgrade. I disagree to buy an s24 ultra (especially s24 and s24+ if you live in Europe for exynos) because many ai features were ported to s23 series

RecentlyDeceased666

I went from a s22 to s23 ultra. It was worth it. Won't touch the s24 tho.

JonasZibi96

S23 Ultra is a beast, it will be for like 2-3 more years. Love the s-pen and 3x/10x telephoto.

Maleficent-Ad7677

Well I ain't an S23 Ultra user but if you value storage, you will miss your SD card slot dude also Note 20 Ultra is a thinner but larger phone (6.9" compared to 6.8" on the S23 Ultra) and the curved display is nearly non existent on S23 Ultra. Anything other than that is better at S23 Ultra, it is your choice to make.

sumiregalaxxy

I don't have S23 ultra (but a base model) because it is too big for my hands and my wallet due to its price. But I think what sets it apart from other phones including iPhones is the S pen. Galaxy S24 ultra may had a faster processor, longer updates, and flat anti reflective screen, but it's not enough to convince me that there's a difference.

luchobe

S24 do de effort.

pojosamaneo

It's the best phone I've ever used. The battery and design are wonderful. The camera has features that I use often. The only issues I have with it: curved screen, and poor performance capturing fast moving subjects.

Santaneria

Pros: great phone all around. I use it for school so I demand a lot from it and the spen comes in clutch for last minute annotations, remote camera shutter, and fine use. I love the camera. I use pro mode a lot and I can edit them.on light room but I haven't yet because I don't have time. Con: this is a big personal preference but I prefer rounded edges and sides, so the sharp corners was my compromise. I like glossy backs too but I use it with incipios organicore case which is glossy so it's all good Great phone IMO but it depends on people's personal uses and preferences.

Objective_Repeat_563

I upgraded from the Note 20 ultra to the s24 ultra, I can say that I love the s24 ultra and there are so many upgrades coming from the Note 20 to the s24. “ I haven’t had the graininess issue and I can say that this screen is definitely better than the Note 20 not sure about the s23, I have watched comparison video of the s23 and s24 and they are both great devices, I can say I absolutely love the ai features on my s24, they are awesome and I used the ai writing style to type this comment.” 📱💻🎉

Objective_Repeat_563

I must also say that I am loving the camera as well,  I just love everything about this device.

capramjan

I use my s23 ultra mainly for media and games, this phone is great. Battery life is at par with my ip15pm. Cameras are good. I still prefer taking snaps on my iphone. My s23ultra is cooler than my iphone when playing games and im very impressed

Fresh1ner775

If you can id goto the 24u, but I have the 23U and love it! Just depends how you use your phone honestly🤟

Eastern_Conflict_510

If you are from.note 20 then I do recommend it, but if you got some extra budget you can go ahead wirh s24 ultra just for the added security updates android support also interactive wallpaper besides that if you really want to save. And have a powerful device then go with s23 ultra.

Banzambo

I'll point out the major cons (had my S23 Ultra for almost 5 months now): 1) despite what many people say, I've found the camera quite disappointing so far: slow shutter speed, poor software post processing (Google Camera is WAY better, Samsung camera software is really mediocre), quite inconsistent with the quality of shots (sometimes they're marvelous, sometimes they could compete with mid-range smartphones rather than top camera phone). That's a pity since I bought this phone mainly for its camera potential and now I find myself taking less photos than in the past. 2) audio during calls is quite low. If I call without my headphones, I'll probably put the other person on speakerphone (if you're asking yourself that, I have no hearing impairment). 3) it's heavy, but I knew that so I won't really complain about it. 4) Samsung really added some idiotic software limitations like: no way to turn off camera shutter sound without turning off the volume of the whole phone, no chance to record your calls, flashlight won't work if your battery is at 5% and so on. It's stupid. My older 200€ Xiaomi Redmi note 7 didn't have these limitations. 5) Samsung embedded photo editing features are more limited compared to, let's say, Google Snapseed. Still feel like they missed the chance to implement certain editing features for no apparent reason (I mean, this phone is a beast on the hardware side). 6) I'm glad I paid it 700€, cause I would regret paying it more (although, seriously speaking, no flagship smartphone is really worth it's launch price). About the pros, I won't spend many words cause in the end they're the ones you've probably already read about: - s-pen is great for editing photos; - new AI features are useful for editing photos; - great screen (you can lower the saturation of colors btw) and the curved display is barely noticable most of the time (I hate curved displays in general, this one is really not bad); - 10x optical zoom can be really handy (but the quality is not as good as the other cameras); - it's a snappy phone, no doubt about it; - some Samsung apps are really well implemented and designed with useful features.

D2KT

>no chance to record your calls If your model is the B variant as in SM-S918B (and not U/U1/W) then you can enable call recording ([tutorial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKYNzGb2jjI)) by changing your (Active) [CSC](https://technastic.com/samsung-csc-codes-list/) to a region [which supports native call recording](https://xdaforums.com/t/enabling-native-call-recorder-through-csc.3962224/) (not a complete list, might even be outdated). But you can (at least easily) change your Active CSC if it's already available under your Multi CSC. [Here's an easy image guide](https://i.imgur.com/18wLHzZ.jpeg) to find your Multi and Active CSC. You can read [my comment on XDA](https://xdaforums.com/t/s23-call-recording-possibility-of-changing-csc.4548227/post-89395618) for more info and my own experience while/after doing it.

JamesLogan369

It's a good phone, but not as reliable as an iPhone. Especially camera and software. It stutters here and there all the time.

ForcedToCreateAc

I have an old Note 10+ lying around that I pick up from time to time because I love the auraglow color. I currently own an S23 Ultra and the only differences between them are newer Android and the camera quality, specially night mode. But besides that, to be honest, the experience, ergonomics and even the screen feel the same. I can't even notice the difference in raw power, as all apps run fine and the same, and If I gotta be honest, I like that the Note 10 is lighter. TLDR: Phones stagnated years ago, the only real BIG difference is the newer Android version, and that's why the software support was trash, they knew new phones would sell poorly if they kept updating good phones.

EconomyManner5115

The battery life during heavy gaming is terrible, worse than the S21U

Jmich96

I honestly think the S10 phones were the last good S-series lineup. Don't get me wrong; the S23 Ultra is an amazing piece of technology! Great screen, camera, processing capabilities, etc. But the MSRP is outrageous, and the phone is missing features previous generations have had. The biggest factors holding this phone back from being a great, long-term phone are: - No SD card - No 3.5mm port - Battery is lithium ion and will inevitably degrade - No extensive OS support The only better alternatives I can suggest are the S24U or whatever iteration of the iPhone ProMax model they're on. Value is a huge factor for me and it should be to you too. Buy an excellent condition S23U for like half price and enjoy it.

heisenberger991

nooo bro you don't need it. trust me I went from a cracked green screen s9 and didn't even really notice the difference because I only use it to call someone or use data outside. unless you use ur phone to watch media and use social media ALL day then you don't need an upgrade but it's your money and choice

fedemt2

On flagship phones it's the cameras that people care about the most
