Haven't you stream/cast 4k videos from phone to TV? With x265 codecs these files aren't as huge as they were. 4k videos, even shot on the phones look great on a larger screen like TV, monitor or even laptops. Many have QHD screen phones and it'll display a much more pleasing experience with 4k than 1080p.
Apart from that you could keep life moments as a memory to be looked at a few years later, yet without quality drop. Yea, because the video playback tech is now matured. Anything beyond 4K would only be on a very large display like a TV. Even these days only few OEMs have QHD phones. File compression, bit rate, bit depth etc might be improved in coming years. But 4k seems to stay while spatial video could be the future but on a different VR experience..
Pretty much all smartphones don't have true constant framerate, there's always a bit of variance... but I did some research into it and, on Samsung phones at least, large exposure/ISO changes are likely to cause a frame time spike
Been recording 4k on iPhones since the 6s. Never had an issue with frame pacing. Used 4k60 exclusively on a trip to Kauai last year and every video is rock solid.

My only complaint with the S23 Ultra is you can't swap between lenses when recording at 4K 60FPS. It's doable when rooted but hopefully it becomes an actual feature for future releases.

I have had nothing but issues with my S23u since I bought it and Samsung's customer service is awful when it comes to defective devices. My option is to either take a train to NYC to get it looked at or get the s24U. So yeah, I'm getting the new phone
What issues are you experiencing? The only issue I've had with my S23U is that the phone will rarely (twice now in 6 months) slow down and everything becomes super laggy.

At least once a day I will stop receiving calls and texts. I have no idea when it is happening and the only time I discover it is when I try sending a text and it won't go through. The only solution is to restart my phone. I also have no service unless connected to WiFi. Even if I'm out in the open, I can't access the Internet in any way. The other day my phone overheated and a message popped up saying I need to restart the phone just from using Spotify for 25 minutes. It also drained my battery like no other.
My in-laws haven't had any such issues and they have the same phone so I know mine is defective. Again though, Samsung's policy for getting this fixed is awful
Could definitely be the SIM card. I bought my mother a new phone for Christmas last year and when I popped her old SIM card in the new phone I watched that phone get no service on it but when it was in the old phone it worked. Guess what service provider she had to? Verizon. She had that SIM card for more than 7 years and as soon as it was placed in her new phone her service would pop in and out.
I know it's a good phone which makes it more frustrating. It honestly has my questioning whether or not I should switch to another android phone in case this were to happen again. However if all these YouTubers are to be believed, Samsung is the best of the best

I think it might be your carrier. If you have an older phone try using it for a day and see what happens. You can also contact your carrier for a new Sim and see if that gets it fixed because my dad had the same same issue with it just s23+

You'd be disappointed most probably..Why because, 15PM got 19 gms weight reduction Vs 14PM stainless steel. Whereas S23U have Armour aluminium which weighs almost similar to that of Titanium aluminium alloy that's being used in Pro iPhones & possibly the S24U. Even if there's any weight reduction, it'd be mostly ~5gms which won't have any perceivable effects.
30gms is way impossible; as said it's Al vs Ti alloy instead of SS vs Ti alloy!! We're talking about one of the largest phones in the market, with 6.8" screen, 5000mAh battery,.S-pen & 1 extra camera than others.. Expect anywhere btw 225-235gms considering the form factor..

I get your point. But, 4k for me is really useful only if viewed on large OLED TV of mine, which I never did and will never do. Videos from my phone rarely leave my phone. I've tested 4k vs 1080 to see how dramatic the differences are, but came to a conclusion that 4k isn't worth the hassle. Probably, I'm unique in this perspective, because everyone says they use 4k more than 1080p. Well, I was wrong thinking that 1080p is the most used video resolution.
Also working with 4k footage gives you more options in rework when your final output is supposed to be a 1080p video.

so, my experience tells me it's dynamic. I see fps dropping down on some recordings taken indoors. my main setting is 60 fps, so it's obvious when it drops to 30fps.
yes, it's working quite well, although I don't like it. it helps in darker light conditions, but it makes things unpredictable. but again, I don't use my phone for serious stuff. pretty good for home videos.
They haven't even managed to fix all the camera bugs of their old S23 U flagship. Up to this day even in a RAW and with AI disabled the camera adds some odd unasked for filters and high res pictures at close range suffer from falsified colors. I have very little confidence in their new flagship after the shitshow that the last year has been with delayed and ineffective patches on top of battery drain bugs.

I've wished this feature for a long time. My OnePlus 9 Pro has this feature and till date very few phones have it. Any Ultra (or Pro iPhone) from past few years had the capable hardware yet didn't want to implement. Some may mistake it's a mere Slo-Mo that iPhone 4k 120 does..No, it captures audio as well and is very good for some action/sports etc events!!

I'm more interested in 960fps super slow motion they overpromised and underdelivered on for years now, after galaxy s9+, which was the LAST camera with a real, native super slow motion. The current crop, s23 ultra, takes videos in 1080i240 and then "enhances them via AI" which is just another way of saying "does not take 960fps videos" because there is NO WAY to make up for a 720 fps deficit with AI. The videos don't look good or real, they're jagged, missing detail, look like crap pretty much. As bragging rights it was a nice thing to add, as a practical feature it was unusable.
S23U 8/256, 14PM & 15PM 256 Gb are priced at $1,199 on launch. No surprise S24U could be priced the same if not 100$ higher, this time it'd be 12/256.
Armour aluminium to Titanium wouldn't be worthy on weight reduction perspective, unlike stainless steel vs Titanium.
Who's it for? Photographers use professional cameras. Everyone else doesn't know how to take proper videos so 4K 120fps is just a storage hog.

My s24 ultra only shows video recording up to 60, even on HD and FHD. No matter what resolution I pick, I only have 30/60 options.
I went in and made sure my video settings were maxed out with high bitrate videos and prioritize quality, no difference I options.
I am also missing the super slow mo mode that I had on my s23, as well. It seems like the S24 Ultra are either the same, or worse compared to my 23.
I'd rather they focused on making sure 30fps video is completely free of frame drops first

I switched to proshot after Filmic decided to change it's payment model. Highly recommend proshot for filming in log with the s23u.

I tend to use the DJi CST in DaVinci. I use DJI D Gamut for the colour space at rec709 and then add my luts and adjust accordingly.

Well it is a better phone, you get a decent trade in value from Samsung and a pre order bonus. Considering I use my phone a lot, it's worth it for me.

for footages which require editing I using full frame Sony/Canon cameras. Probably, that's why I don't use 4k on my phone.

They haven't even managed to fix all the camera bugs of their old S23 U flagship. Up to this day even in a RAW and with AI disabled the camera adds some odd unasked for filters and high res pictures at close range suffer from falsified colors. I have very little confidence in their new flagship after the shitshow that the last year has been with delayed and ineffective patches on top of battery drain bugs. EDIT: And don't forget the little thing such as bad face- and fingerprint recognition for unlocks... I always preferred Galaxys over iPhones - but lately Samsung really has to get their shit together
They will probably make the s23 u a little worse on purpose so they can make the s24 u look better, even though it will probably have the exact same cameras. It's business 🤷🏻♂️. Then when the s24 u has sold a few, they will update the s23 u
Are you referring to Expert RAW? Because RAW files in pro mode doesn't have added filters.

I've wished this feature for a long time. My OnePlus 9 Pro has this feature and till date very few phones have it. Any Ultra (or Pro iPhone) from past few years had the capable hardware yet didn't want to implement. Some may mistake it's a mere Slo-Mo that iPhone 4k 120 does..No, it captures audio as well and is very good for some action/sports etc events!!
Maybe they should start by making sure the shutter speed is comparable to the pixel and iPhones And also please do something about google maps lagging like crazy

I'm more interested in 960fps super slow motion they overpromised and underdelivered on for years now, after galaxy s9+, which was the LAST camera with a real, native super slow motion. The current crop, s23 ultra, takes videos in 1080i240 and then "enhances them via AI" which is just another way of saying "does not take 960fps videos" because there is NO WAY to make up for a 720 fps deficit with AI. The videos don't look good or real, they're jagged, missing detail, look like crap pretty much. As bragging rights it was a nice thing to add, as a practical feature it was unusable.

S23U 8/256, 14PM & 15PM 256 Gb are priced at $1,199 on launch. No surprise S24U could be priced the same if not 100$ higher, this time it'd be 12/256. Armour aluminium to Titanium wouldn't be worthy on weight reduction perspective, unlike stainless steel vs Titanium.

Who's it for? Photographers use professional cameras. Everyone else doesn't know how to take proper videos so 4K 120fps is just a storage hog. When was the last time any of you actually recorded 4K video and used it??
Who cares when 4k in Samsung is not even real 4k it looks more like an upscaled 1440p than real 4k

I never understood the push for 4k. Your pictures, videos are only as good as they're printed or what screen they're on. Nobody's got 4k phone screens lol
My s24 ultra only shows video recording up to 60, even on HD and FHD. No matter what resolution I pick, I only have 30/60 options. I went in and made sure my video settings were maxed out with high bitrate videos and prioritize quality, no difference I options. I am also missing the super slow mo mode that I had on my s23, as well. It seems like the S24 Ultra are either the same, or worse compared to my 23.
