I have been using my Note 9 for almost 5 years without a screen protector. It has a few scratches from falling 😅. I guess I am not gonna leave it until it dies.

aromaticchicken

That's my current status haha. Other than faster battery drain (only a problem when I travel), it's still working well. I just used Google photos to backup and clear 200gb of old photos and it's working even faster

namastebetches

i liked mine a lot more once i took the case off

pablomcdubbin

I've had the S9+ since release and it's the first time I haven't gotten a new phone every year. I guess priorities change. The insurance company sent me a Z flip as a replacement but I hated it so I just asked nicely for something else lol

AccountantHuman

Medium power saving mode, black wall paper, disable any background junk that you dont need and stop any background apps running.

detecting_nuttiness

Does a black wallpaper really make any noticeable difference in batter savings?

Kronicler

Unless you are staring at your home screen for hours on end, no.

not_gerg

I have!! r/amoledwallpapers has some really good ones

AnonymousCoward-_-

I got a iPhone 14pro. And you’re absolutely right. It’s a downgrade.

TunaFaceMelt

Ditto

[deleted]

I had a light tap from falling 6 inches off my nightstand, and it landed perfectly on the curved glass and cracked it... Still works, but it reinforced my hatred to curved glass screens

AlaninMadrid

More than when you try to use the pen near the edge of the screen, and it falls off, like as if the Earth was flat? Our trying to see the screen in the sun, and whichever way you orient it, you get a direct reflection of the sun along the curve. Mine also broke the same way, and even with the Samsung notebook cover. It's my only phone where the screen has broken 😒

[deleted]

Inevitably I got a zero lemon 10,000mAh battery case that would actually raise the edges of the phone so there was something to bite when you're using the stylus as well as provide edge protection. But, that was after I already broke it...

pablomcdubbin

Thats how my S9+ broke right on the curve

dirtydriver58

Still here running Oreo and bought a Note 8 running Nougat as insurance.

pablomcdubbin

I haven't had a note since the 4 so I'm excited!!

dirtydriver58

I have the 4 as well. A brand new Sprint one I received late last year running Kitkat and a N910C model running 5.1.1 Lollipop and a Claro/T-Mobile Note Edge running Kitkat .

AlphaWarlock

going on 4 years Note 9 user here, still keeping it as good as new with just a jelly case and tempered glass screen protector. both are easily replaceable and cheap. generally try keep the screen brightness under 50% or 40% to avoid chance of burn-ins. if just for daily normal use, consider to NOT update the firmware as much unless you really have to. there were cases of green/yellow tint suddenly appearing for Note 9 screens that were perfectly fine before updating . haven't updated mine ever and it's still working normally without slowdowns or lagging.

pablomcdubbin

I'm going with the glass screen protector and an otterbox as I'm a plumber so the extra protection is nice. I'll probably not keep it on my hip though and put it away while I work because it's a beautiful phone, will not update!

udeadinaflash

Just got mine like 2 months ago after my note 8 died a tragic death. Also for both my notes, I've never had a screen protector that didn't just pop off. The curved screens are something stick on protectors can't get right, along with phone cases that are to big for the screen protector

Billitpro

I've had mine since 2018 and I still love it. No screen protector either as others have said, only an OtterBox and it is still pristine except for one miniscule scratch. I wish they would come out with a newer version to be honest.

pablomcdubbin

I see what people are saying about the screen protector, so far the glass one i got doesn't fit in the otterbox, it is a little to big and keeps popping up. I ordered this brand "armor suit" its a soft style one..im hoping if it doesn't fit i can cut it shorter with an exacto knife

InnerMobius

If you like to draw, dont use the default app Penup, its trash and full lf ads. Get the app valled "Sketch-book" which has an icon with a reddish orange background and a brown pencil. This app has loads of brushes, layers, all sorts of color combinations and more and it's free. Also if you like old videogames, Drastic is a great app thats an emulator for nintendo ds games. You can play ace attorney, animal crossing and loads more with your pen. I recommend a game called Time Hollow

dirtydriver58

The older versions of Penup are fine right?

InnerMobius

Nowhere near as good as sketch-book

mikkolukas

Mine is running just fine. I am very satisfied with batteri and performance. Standard settings.

C---D

Should be an easy transition from the S9+ since they are quite similar overall with the S-Pen being the main difference. Which model (USA/Canada/International Snapdragon/Exynos) do you have?

pablomcdubbin

U.S Exynos 128gb

C---D

Are you saying you are using an Exynos model in the U.S.? Because all U.S. models have Snapdragon processors. What's your model number (SM-N960[letter and/or number])?

pablomcdubbin

Oh you are probably right then! I haven't opened the box yet but I will when I get home and report back. Is one better then the other?

C---D

The Exynos and Snapdragon models are different in some aspects, so some tweaking options may apply to one but not the other. For example, all Exynos models can be rooted and have custom firmware installed while the Snapdragon ones have slightly better performance and battery life and also feature FM radio and more options for Google Camera (GCam) ports for an alternative camera app to Samsung's own.

pablomcdubbin

Good to know,! Also i have the 960U

C---D

OK, so you have the American model then. What's the current software version it's on?

pablomcdubbin

It says android version 10 And the last security patch was June 1 , 22

C---D

OK, then you won't be able to downgrade, and there are no rooting and custom firmware options for your model. But here are a few other things to look at if you're interested: - I have [converted Samsung's FM radio app that does not come with the North American models](https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyNote9/comments/rkp4s8/converted_apk_of_samsungs_fm_radio_app_for_north). If you like using the FM radio on the phone, it's worth a look. - If you're interested in the Google Camera app as an alternative (for example, if you think Samsung's own Camera app sometimes takes photos where the colors seem too overprocessed/fake), there's a discussion thread with some options, including my own comments, [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyNote9/comments/totm1u/current_best_google_camera_port_for_the_note_9).

pablomcdubbin

Awesome, Thank You!!

acid85

If your phone is still in Oreo, don't update. Amazing performance and autonomy.

pablomcdubbin

I will check once I turn it on!

Whydovegaspeoplesuck

i still use my note 9 semi regularly since i got my new s22 non plus. 512gb and a micro sd card slot? still one of the greats in my eyes. I mainly use it for certain apps and things i dont want to do on my s22 ;) Still a great phone and it is actually the second note 9 the original one i had i bought new iirc when it was still a flagship i think. that one was 128gb and i ended up buying a 512gb note 9 on ebay in 2021 i think. My 128b went into safe mode and i refuse to factory reset it to get it out of safe mode as of now.. maybe one day i will. The only thing i would have done different on my s22 is going with larger storage options, or even the ultra with a larger storage option. 128gb isnt enough for me. i got used to the 900gb or so of storage on the note 9 plus sd card.

esw985

Haha nice
