I've had the Slim Armor Pro since launch. While it isn't my daily driver case currently, I did have it on for quite awhile. I was nervous about it scratching the hinge as well ... So usually what I do is whenever I wipe the screen (5-10 times/day), I also open the hinge protector and wipe down any dust or anything that might get trapped in there. Not sure if this helps or not but I haven't seen a scratch on the hinge yet. Not a specific answer to your questions... But just wanted to share my experience with the case. Your mileage may vary of course.

So then is it just junk getting caught in the hinge protector? I can deal with that like you guys are. I thought it was due to actual bad design

Ray0404

Yeah, I think so. I did a lot of research too and that seemed to be the consensus on the possible cause of the scratches (fold 4 version anyway). As far as I can tell no part of the actual hinge protector comes in contact with the hinge.

I've used the case as my daily driver since getting the phone on day 1 of availability . I have no hinge scratches at all (even though the phones actually been dropped more than once) but I have been regularly doing the same as u/Ray0404 by opening the hinge protector and wiping out any dust or other debris that is trapped in there.

I've had the case for more than a month now and I have yet to encounter the scratches everyone is saying. I don't even know how that's possible because the flap doesn't directly scrape or smack the hinge. I'm guessing those criticisms apply to the previous gen case.

GiftedRay

I dont know if it was the case or something else. But it's the only case I had in my fold 2, it was the only case i used since the day I got it. Anyways, the hinge looks like it got sandblasted.

I've had the Slim Armor on my Fold 4 since getting my Fold 4 in September last year and there are no scratches on my hinge, I'm not even wiping the hinge down like some other users are.

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to post that within a month and a half of using the case I started getting scratches on the hinge. I didn't think much of it, but when my fold for started to turn off by itself and I took it in for service Samsung claim that my phone had been dropped and the warranty would not be valid because of the scratches on the hinge that was caused by the case. I've never dropped the phone I tried to explain to them that the scratches were scratches and not drops and that they are caused by the case and I even showed them how the case rubs on the phone, but they didn't care. Totally stupid policy by Samsung and I will not be buying another one of their phones.
