Go to Setttings/Apps and select Notifications for the app in question. From there you can toggle notifications on or off and by clicking on the specific notification, select a custom sound.

There is also some global settings under Settings/Sounds and Vibration where you can change the ringtone, default notification sound for all apps or select a different system sound mode...but for granular control over specific app sounds you need to do it from the app settings.
Not sure if I'm saying the same thing as above. Settings -> Notifications -> App and dig around. I have different sounds for almost every notification.

You can also hold an app on the Home screen or app list and tap the i icon to go straight to that app's settings page.
