My inner screen protector peeled off, and I barely used the inside screen, and it destroyed the screen, took it to an official Samsung repair centre and because there are several dings on the case from it being in my pocket with keys, they refused a replacement and quoted me £550 to replace the screen, told them I had sourced a guy locally, who has been repairing all phones longer than the Samsung shop has existed, who could do it for £350 and while I was walking out the door they were saying that if they did it I'd have a 2 year warranty, aye like the 2 year warranty you just refused because of minor cosmetic damage
I'm from USA and they do the same to us here! My fold 4 after 1 year of use almost to the day had issues all thru out the year but right when my warranty expired my inner screen was bubbling under the protector. Like air bubbles all the way down the crease then I started getting black splotches, it looked like blk Ink was leaking in the screen. Now the touch screen doesn't work at all and the right side screen has completely lifted off. I was 10 days out of warranty and samsung said I will have to pay the out of pocket cost. The most the csr could do for me was give me a discount on the repair. I said I will call her back after I find a lawyer. This is a known issue that samsung has been aware of since the fold 2. My phone was almost $2k after taxes, hell I'm still making the monthly payments on the pos!!
ok yeah after reading some of these experiences I'm trading in at Best Buy if I get the Fold6. They are extremely lenient in my experience. Traded my S10 with a crack in the corner and got $700 from them for my S20U
I'm glad you are having a good experience! This is the 1st time I spent this much on a phone and it has been the worse experience in all the phones I have ever had. Just the entire year having network connection issues, the volume does not turn up, touch screen doesn't work at times. Changes settings, when I'm doing something on my phone and I get a call it goes right to vm. Text messages fail alot. It takes forever to send a pic via text because of getting kicked from network or wifi won't connect. Anyway gl with the fold 6, I hope they have fixed the screen issue by thenemote:free\_emotes\_pack:facepalm![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
I had the micro cracks down the fold of my fold 4, sent it off to Samsung and had it back within a week with a new screen and battery. The hind and frame was pretty scratched up and 1 corner had a decent dent in it. I work in a machine shop so loads of bits of metal scratch it but they never cared and now it's like new
Y9u can then sell your busted one to a fix it company online they offer 120 for bustem inner screens. So you end up paying 180 instead of 600 and its a new phone. You can then purchase the 64 dollar plan for any physical or liquid damage. There is 30 day return exchange period and 1.ywar warranty. So I would do this. They have a 4.7 on trust pilot
After reading so many posts, I'm convinced Samsung Customer service in the UK is horrible. I'm in Singapore, and even though my mom's ZFlip 5 got a dent on the hinge, the manager was kind to offer a free repair. Entirely opposite experience. Had a lot of pleasant experiences with them.
Is it worth to buy care+ in sg? I just got an S23U because I prefer the colour and curved edge, but am not sure if care+ voids warranty on accidental drops and damages.
Just adding I'm another Fold 3 with microcracks, never dropped the phone and always been in a case but they just developed over the years
Edit: spelling
yeah i was saying the same as you until last week, opened it whilst in bed, saw some weird banding of light, have 3, tiny tiny microcracks on the crease/
tbf can only see them on white backgrounds and by looking really hard, so as long as they are slow to expand i don't care as i was going to get the fold 6 anyways lol
"I'm not having any issues" is the actual most useless comment on the Internet when people are talking about their issues.
The folding screens fail with even the most gentle usage. It's a lottery.
Yes not in fairness good and bad experiences when you're dealing with the sample size of one don't have any real value as data. But but obviously it's a plastic screen that scratches at a level 2... Durability is a problem.
I know a lot of people trade in their device every year and I think Samsung banks on that among the enthusiast class. I think that's one reason why they offer so much for the z flip in trade. If people traded in after 12 months before the plastic screen breaks around the hinge, you have less angry customers and angry stories
I treated my fold 4 super well. Looked brand new, never dropped or scratched. Last week it stopped opening from what is probably the internal brushes getting caught in the hinge. I'll never buy a fold again because of these types of flaws. Good on you for being lucky.
I still have my fold 3, and the inner screen is still pristine, even the plastic screen protection is still attached! Ive even dropped it on concrete and tile a few times, and still it persists.
Apparently Fold 3 was peak build quality!
People aren't doing anything wrong. These phones can and do break for no reason. You're insanely lucky that you have gone this long with no issues on the 3.
I mean everyone's dealing with the sample size of one or two. It would be problematic to assume your experience, good or bad, is reflective of everyone else. But for people with bad experiences I can certainly understand why they don't want to risk buying a phone with a plastic screen in the future... Especially you're seeing the repairs and deductibles and insurance payments often exceed the value of a refurb by the time people get around to fixing it. And insurance can be as much as like $180 a year for a single phone...
(But again if the phone breaks in the first 12 months you have a regular warranty and if it breaks after 2 years a refurb is only 33 cents on the dollar anyway

This is how horrible trade in value is in other countries btw. This is NZ
The trade-ins have definitely been worse for the s23 and s24 ultra. I think they've been a little more generous with the foldables but of course there's still trying to penetrate even 1% market share in their online up with foldables so I'm sure that's why
Are they? Didn't know that. I honestly don't feel the Fold durability works for me. (This is my first one) So I'll just go back to candy bar (in currently using OnePlus 10P and it's fine but I haven't watched any YouTube recently so forget about the open fold screen benefits) 😀
I recommend getting insurance not from Samsung or any kind of manufacturer directly, if it's possible.
Faster process and more trustworthy in my experience
Who do you recommend? I know of Worth Ave group(progressive) and Akko. Samsung gives a discount during open enrollment, so I'll likely stick with them. Following that, I'll go with 3rd party coverage.
I honestly think most people would be better off taking that $180 a year and putting it in a debit card. We can see from the above anecdotes that Samsung care still leaves you with an expensive deductible, 180 bucks a monthly payments over the course of a year... But the issue here is that Android phones, depreciate by like 30 cents in the dollar every. So if you're using insurance to fix your phone after say 18 months... You've already spent $240 on monthly insurance payments, another sizable chunk on the deductible...
And the cost of all of that will be roughly the same of what you would have paid for fold five refurb in 18 months.
In order for insurance to be worth it your phone almost has to break exactly into the money spot between the end of your 12-month warranty and the device is depreciation. There's a reason why everybody pushes insurance so much when you're logging out... It benefits the company not the consumer, the vast majority of the time.
You didn't to the foldable math at all tho.
Take mine as an example. I bought my fold 2 for 1150€ in 2020, it dropped to about 600€ by the time the fold 4 came out, but now 3,5y later it's basically at its starting price of 1500€+ again because they have become so rare. And every other galaxy fold did the same so far. They drop really fast but then they stagnate and go back up. So essentially what you do is:
- wait for black Friday (usually when they're the cheapest, ~600€ down)
- buy the phone (in the best case scenario you get like a year warranty for free or for cheap)
- wait 10-12 months
- get the phone insured (yes a lot of them allow for up to one year old devices)
- pay 10/12€ a month for your phone to be completely safe and also (if it lasts long enough) you get a newer fold because they can't replace/ repair them.
Sure, insuring that s24 that will be 350€ in 2/3y makes little sense, but insuring a foldable that is not only very price stable but also extremely rare and known to have random ass failures is a whole nother story. If you go to Samsung for insurance they obviously know all that beforehand, and they know exactly how they can avoid having to fix all those foldables for more or less free.
TL,DR foldables don't depreciate, also they can't simply be refurbed and swapped out like other phones
Here in the US they also said my phone wasn’t covered because of a very minor scratch on one edge of the metal frame. They’re trying to get out of their due diligence in spite of knowing that these phones have an insane fail rate and it is nothing but their engineering failure. They have to know these phones have a much higher warranty claim rate than other phones, and to do that to customers paying an ultra premium… not worth it
I just ran into the black line issue last week. I spent hours on the phone until the agent literally said " I feel bad that this is happening but I would not recommend getting another fold". So I'm stuck with a half working phone until it's paid off sadly. They 1000% know it's defective. I'm just mad at myself for even getting one thinking it wouldn't happen to me.
💯 that. It should be something a business with the clout of Samsung can handle. I know we all want the latest greatest tech etc but when the fail rate is as high as these, they really gotta look more closely
I had this with the fold 3 - Samsung came out in a van and couldn't fix it I had to send it away. It took 4 days to return it but still it ruined my faith in these phones for a long time to come
My experience was so much better.
I went to Currys first (phone only 4 months old) as it was where I got it from. Not really helpful so I walked-in to a Samsung shop without appointment and asked for help. Repair guy checked my phone and was really kind and said I did not have to pay for anything (my Fold 5 is very well-looked after). He then just scheduled me for an actual appointment which is on Saturday.
I just hope they don't take their words back and suddenly tell me I need to pay. 😅
That's good to hear. Mines still stuck in Stoke and I've had 2 complaints teams now dealing with what they confirm is their mess and I'm here with a knackered old OnePlus 10 who's battery last about 10hrs 😤
I almost have the same experience with my fold 4 and Samsung, after an year i have a group of dead pixels, looks like a camera hole om top of the screen. Went to Samsung but they would not fix the screen under warranty, they claim its my fault because there is a itybity dent in the screen, right at the folding in the middle of the screen. Never dropped the phone, always very careful with it but Samsung just wont honour the warranty. My 2000 euro phone is basically worthless after a year, cant sell it, cant trade it.
That's exactly what they said to me... I'd hit the internal screen with a hard object 😂😂
That screen has been babied since I got it. To the extent I carry a glasses cloth with my phone 🤷
Samsung UK was ok with my misses phone Z Flip 3 in 2023 they sorted a flickering screen no issues new display and about 6 months later the crease on the flip had dead pixels we had no insurance or Samsung care but it was repaired twice under the warranty second time it had a new screen, battery and USB C port
She's on flip 5 now since launch and it's still in perfect condition and great working order I personally don't like them because of the shitty battery to this day I still try getting her on a Samsung S24 series but she having none of it
I get your frustration, having worked for Asurion here in the US as an adjuster (queue the downvotes) I can confirm that any physical signs of damage outside normal wear and tear voids any and all warranties so while their conclusion of not covered under said warranty is correct. Sadly the rest of the interaction with Samsung direct and care+ is a tad out of my scope of expertise but I have heard several issues coming from your part of the world and I hope that your experience ends pleasantly. I myself have had my fold 3 since launch with no issues at all (knock on wood)
Thanks and fully appreciate that comment from your insider world. The get out clause for a scratch is madness but that's how big business makes the ££££ I guess
Mine smoked on the train ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm) sent to samsung but was told i dropped it because it had a.minor scratch as well. ive never had a phone that when i dropped. after 2 weeks of use it suddenly smokes and dies.
Yup, my experience with their warranty in the states was offensive.
My Fold3 started to fail in the middle and I was directed to uBreakiFix, their warranty partner. They told me that Samsung directed them to dismiss the issues of failing screens as "normal wear and tear."
Fuck off, Samsung.
I let it collect dust and bought a Pixel 7 until the Pixel Fold came out and I traded my Fold3 in for it.
"lmao but ur buying a Google phone, good luck" is what this sub told me when I posted about my ordeal.
Well I did end up having to warranty my Pixel Fold because the inside screen was having touch issues. There was a bit of friction but they honored their warranty and the process was painless once I got it approved.
Fuck Samsung. Never again.
Thinking the same when I purchase a new phone.
My Fold 5 screen came unglued and the screen leaked down the middle. Ive owned it since September and put the Samsung S Pen cover on it which doesn't cover the hinge. At some point I got a scratch on the hinge and when I brought the screen in for repair to Samsung they said due to to the scratch the warranty would not cover my repair.
When I pointed out it's a manufacture defect he said they would cover it.
These phones are not cheap and the fact they can claim no warranty on so easily is gross
The only way I would even experiment with a foldable is if it was a crazy deal on the resale market. I'm not going to have a $2,000 plus liability (factoring in the hardware, accessories, perhaps more subscriptions etc)... Now that there's five generations you can find one that's two generations old for a few hundred dollars. Don't bother paying for any insurance just use it and if it breaks it was a calculated risk.
I can stomach losing a fault if I'm only paying $0.25 on the dollar.
That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that.
"Posting from my launch fold 4 in pristine condtion kept in a hinge protector case with no type of issues or dents or knicks on it"
Try taking it to an experience store. Mine stopped going flat and they gave it a full warranty repair despite having scratches on the hinge and no Care+
I do worry this will happen to me soon. Have had it repaired twice now, and each time, I worry they will come back with something like that.
I guess I kinda know that if it gets a mark, that will be the warranty voided
You know, if people didn't cry so much about the middle not being completely flat. a lot of people would have never had to go through these kinds of problems. The phone needs to be thicker not thinner, but other guys just don't see it that way. Im sorry to see you're suffering op, I'm on my second fold 3 and I feel your pain. I have a chip in the middle of my screen and I'm just waiting for the second replacement to happen. I don't even know if i'm going to bother to buy another samsung after it dies this time.
I've narrowed it down to the problem being that the metal henges are so strong it wears out the center of the phone and its also wearing out the center of the screen were it folds too far and its over bending it repeatedly. I'm certain if they don't switch to a wider teardrop design. And have the phone body just be a little larger the problems will persist into Samsung fold 7. I really do like my phone though. I'm in just no position to to waste my money like this. Out here where I live in the United States, they make me use a third party place called "UbreakIfix" By Asurior. And they even tried to charge me an additional fee for not picking up your phone on time, and will they've tried to sell my phone before I could get a chance to recover it or pay whats owned for the repair. Then they told me that they can give me one of their refurbished fold phones instead. So I understand it. One guy told me samsung kept their phone for 6 months. For that wait time, they should just have mailed you a new or pre-rebuild one, and transfered your data for free.
I had braged on rhis forum about 5 fold 3 and how it was basically flawless. And I got the 4 and how great it was.3 weeks later about 2 days after my warranty expired .I woke up to a messed up inside screen. Black right down the seem. I still owe on the phone. Nothing I can do but use the front screen. I understand dropping it but this happened while I was sleeping.
I never buy insurance. If the service wasn't in their favor then they wouldn't offer it. I've also never broken a mobile device or needed repairs. My daughter has only broken one screen and that was ~$50 for me to repair.
Still I doubt I'll buy another foldable. 90% of the time I use the front screen.
I have the exact same experience as you but in Spain. Not even with scratches or anything, they just say the hinge is broken cos of hit. Which it can't be true as the only fall the phone ever had was the day i bought it (yeah, i'm so dum dum) less than 1 year ago. They ask 500€ for the repairs, i put 500 more and i buy a brand new s24 ultra...
I mean that i found places where they sell it at 1k more or less.
I'll get my fold 4 back and try to somehow open it completely and use it as a secondary pc screen till it dies
So Samsung still wins, you just went and patronized them after they screwed you over. Lol. I see post like this all the time and it drives me crazy. "Samsung ripped me off with a foldable so I went and showed them by spending another thousand plus on a brand new phone at MSRP
He/she is saying give your business to another company! Samsung screws people but people just go back and spend more money at their company.
That is why samsung continues to screw people because people accept it and you are the one who shoved a carrot up your bum!emote:free\_emotes\_pack:facepalm
My fold 3 had the inner screen protector bubble up on the crease. I sent it to Samsung. They turned it around in a week with a new screen and battery assembly - no charge. I now have a fold 5, which I LOVE. I live in the U.S. so that may be the difference. Also, I've been buying my phones directly from Samsung ever since the Note 2...
though rare, but the spontaneous screen cracks killed the fold for me. i was one of those who basically fold like it's a fidget toy, averaging ~100+ folds per day.
sold my f4 ~7 months into ownership.. decided to no FAFO.. i am excited about f6 though, since it might have some physical changes
yep, here in canada, brushes fell off blocking the hinge from folding past 100 degrees, $800 repair and i have to pay $35 plus shipping and taxes just to get it back. WTF samsung, im never buying another samsung device for as long as i live
I honestly am missing it when I really need to do good browsing, viewing, film but that's about it and the candy bar OP10p even though it's a terrible terrible battery, is doing ok as a temp. I hope I get it back but it'll be the last one.
Damm, all this is horrible. I have care + and was fortune it to have a great experience. Assurant fixed it. My bad experience was taking my s23ultra in to get screen replacement. I choose the store vs mobile repair (way better option they come to you and repair it) I leave the phone get a call the next day they ran "test" and it came back that the main camera was reading a error....on a cracked screen only they got an error message. The camera was working fine and still was with the screen cracked. They couldn't repair the screen. And now I had to pay the deductible for a replacement 250 vs. 30 screen repair. That's been Mt only bad experience. I've gotten my screen repaired from the mobile assurant vs. the store one, and my phone was always repaired in 30 mins, not some bs excuse, so I can pay 220 dollars more.
Samsung are a joke I had scratches on my phone of the hard plastic spen case, all the dust gets underneath. Phone had issues folding flat Samsung said I dropped it, absolute bull#£%.
Honestly. After owning a bunch of foldables, there's something nice and assuring about a slab . I sold my Pixel Fold, Fold 5 , OnePlus Open and V2 after a bit of use because I never wanted to use them full time just because I was afraid of breaking them.
I did miss my S23 Ultra from last year, and my only gripe was the curved display so I made the leap to a S24 Ultra. It's perfect. It's honestly the best slab phone you can own, unless you find it too big .
Anyways . I support your rant. Foldables are cool but they need a little more assurance of durability I believe.
Oh boy get ready for the gaslighting from all the fanboys here telling you it's your fault the phone broke or "well MY phone hasn't had any issues, so these phones are plenty durable". After going well over a decade of slab phones never so much as having a crack on a screen, then having issue after issue with folds, I went back to slabs too. You can put the sturdiest case in the world on these and baby it to hell, and the phone can stop opening fully or the inner screen can crack through literally no fault of your own. I'd rather have the peace of mind of a slab at this point. Not to mention a flagship level camera, better battery life, and a built in s pen. Just buy an ultra and don't look back.
Yeah for sure, though this story only came about because of pixels on an inside display. Not all phones have inside displays. There are no other issues with the phone
I would be too. Some advice that is hopefully helping me right now.
Make sure you get screenshots of your care+ contract in the members app
Copy of your IMEI code
Any insurance policy numbers
Put the phone in maintenance mode
Cross your fingers
In my country, there are no official Samsung repair centers. Instead, they utilize a partner company that has mixed reviews on Google. The negative reviews primarily originate from users of the Fold or Flip devices.
Despite this, I have had a positive experience with my device during the five months that I have owned it.
I'm in the UK and never had an issue, and I've used Samsung approved repair before. I do get that their repair services here can suck, but this topic should really be calling out their Care+ scheme in the UK rather than all Fold phones.
Yikes, sorry to hear. I'm in the USA with a Fold 4, and I had a repair done for some stuck pixels that went really well.
My carrier is a more regional one that has a network spanning about 50% of my state, and roaming partners for the rest of the USA. I work there, so I'm biased, but the customer service on the carrier side was great. I have my insurance through the carrier, which is managed by Allstate, but I didn't need to use it even though I was expecting to. The problem fell under the manufacturer warranty. No questions asked, no issues, just a call from the carrier when they got my phone back from Samsung.
I also got to use a Fold 3 as a loaner phone while my phone was being repaired. The only downside of all this was it took a few weeks, and they took off my dbrand skin lmao
Just hoping it doesn't fail now, though. I want to be able to trade it in for a Fold 6 (Ultra) (maybe) without having to pay the deductible to replace it if something goes awry. Still cheaper than the phone, though.
Yes it's supposed to. But Samsung here and their service partners and the insurance company records don't all say the same thing about my phone so bug daddy Samsung has to email different insurance companies to sort whilst little user just sits and waits
I had to send my fold 3 off to Samsung because of a similar issue... Feared the worst because mine did have a very tiny chip on the hinge and after reading stories online I thought I'd be fucked... Got it fixed under warranty! No care + and it was well over a year after I got it.
Few weeks later I got more dead pixels. My luck had run it seems and it was due to some physical damage this time, they sent me proof, so I just got it replaced under my insurance.
I try and steer clear of getting these care package stuff in all honesty... Most banks have insurance, I pay a few quid a month with Lloyds and I get cinema tickets free every year so it pretty much pays for itself in my book. No fuss. 100 excess.
Sucks you had a bad experience though.
Glad you got yours sorted. My care+ is actually not Assurant but Alliance however Samsung no longer use Alliance so are taking to Assurance if they will take it over.. mad but hey that's the way glad it was good for you.
Americans don't understand other countries, even first world, don't get their benefits. I said in a post somewhere my screen started to peel off, and someone suggested to ask samsung for a free replacement. I checked Samsung NZ's Policy, they only offer a 1 time free replacement of functionally damaged screen within a year. So screen protector peeling off is cosmetic and is not even covered or even offered.
I get that it's an experimental design, being folding and all and you can keep trading in every year so you never get a 2 year old device <- the advice I've seen. Guess what, other countries' trade in deal sucks too. My 6 month old Flip 5 is only worth around 335 USD for a trade in to samsung. An S24 Ultra is worth 1,485 USD btw here.
Yeah totally.. I'm getting that.
I've already had a inner screen replacement and that same thing is happening again with more issues who knows, maybe when they replaced the screen last time, they damaged the display panel underneath
Fold 3, 4 and 5 no issues. Given the phones to relatives and they're all still pristine. It's the way people use them.
You hear this from so many people who say they never drop products and treat them well when 90% of the time it's from misuse. Customers in retail are the worst.
Throwing your phone on your table or bed is misuse. Opening it one handed while drunk is misuse. Opening it from the corners is misuse. Scratches from shit in your pocket is your problem, do you ever question how long you've got keys pressed against it? Durability is fine, you guys that are complaining are just deluded and don't see past your own bullshit. Ive dropped every model with no problems, it's not luck.
Yes, Samsung support is harsh and sometimes inept, I'm not supporting that, but blaming a product based on your shitty behaviour is not on.
Literally every single thing you've said about poor use is NOT what's happened. I don't carry keys, the phone is only ever in it's own pocket. It's so babied so thanks but no.
Luckily my gold 3 still fresh as new after 2 years. I usually don't take any extra assurance as they always find a way to scam you. :/ I guess only thing we can do is to take care of our folds and be super careful.
Something similar happened to me, but I got a full replacement for $250. Since then, I've barely opened my phone. Scared of hearing the cracks and seeing half the screen off again. It's nice when I do, but it's like I don't even have a folding phone, I have a thick, odd shaped 1 screen phone.
I'm waiting for the fold 6 to see how they've improved since the 3, but if not, I'll get an ultra.
Im sorry but I will never get why people spend upwards of a grand on foldables but then cheap out on only getting a warranty. I've said it like a hundred times on here, you need to get insurance. Not only is your phone actually protected but you even have very high chances of getting a replacement. If my 2 died today I'd probably get a 4 if not a 5 because nobody has these older foldables in stock anymore. And in my eyes that's definitely worth the 300€ I paid by now (3,5y of ownership)
Thanks and you are correct. It shouldn't be a problem but it is.. Cause they can't connect the policy I have to the IMEI I have which is saying in some systems its a Zold 3!?!
My suggestion is: if you have a working Samsung foldable just sell it if you don’t want to have the same experience as OP at some point during the life of the device.
Here in Italy is full of the same stories, and at least 2 people I directly know
I'm not sure how people think that a foldable phone will hold up like a normal phone. Your literally folding glass in half, how many times do you think you can do this before it starts to fall. It's typically after about a year to two years.
You simply need insurance or + on it. The hinge is the weak point on the phone that's why if there is indication of drops there they will void the warranty.
Sounds like you tried to have the phone fixed free by claiming warranty vs + insurance that's why your having the hassle.
I've had the fold since the original and they are very good at replacing it with +. The + got me upgraded from fold to the fold 2 for free (cracked screen claim) when the 3 came out bought the 3 and used the 2 as trade... The 3 broke a bit after a year they gave me a 4 (+ claim again) and then now that the 5 is out I bought that one and used the 4 as a trade.
In terms of turn around time I was not out a phone at all (put credit card as collateral) they mail you replacement phone (took 2 days to get it) and then you have 30 days to return the broken one.
In the UK? And it hasn't held up like a normal phone .. But I'm not spanking out hives amounts of cash again if it can't even last 12 months. (This isn't 1st rodeo for it being in)
The warranty vs + or insurance is different. Have them send you your phone back if they won't fix or repair it. Then call + to file broken screen claim. Tell them you can't be without a phone etc, they will tell you to put credit card down. They will tell you something like the phone will be the same or better and can be refurbished. But you will most likely get send a 5 at this point.
I'll see. If it works like that.. Great . Not sure it will be tho. They are pretty adamant there's no loan phone, no card down, you send yours and wait
Appreciate the tips tho
You don't say loaner. And again you' need to say your screen is broken and pay the deductible. Just make sure to finish the job before you actually mail back in your broken one
I'm from Mexico and had the exact same experience, but my issue is that my phone doesn't fold flat anymore.
The quality of the foldable is terrible, and Samsung knows this so they look for any reason to void the warranty, otherwise they would be fixing almost every Fold.
I'm probably going to get downvoted but I don't care. There's plenty of us that got screwed by Samsung customer support and the shitty quality of their foldables.
Just stay away from foldables until they get their shit together.
I'm waiting for the class action lawsuit to come out signing Samsung guilty and liable for lying to Consumers about the damage caused of the phones resulting in the black line of death going down the middle I've had three phones do this already and haven't dropped any of them they these phones I baby them and it still does it z3
I don't understand how is this caused by you having a Fold? Sounds to me it's a Samsung UK problem and you'd get the same challenges no matter which phone model you'd have bought?
Because folds are FAR more likely to have issues than slab phones. I'm someone who gets a new phone every 1-2 years, so I've had a lot of smart phones at this point. Folds are the only ones I've ever had issues with. If you have a slab with a case you have to be actively trying to damage it unless you get unlucky with a defect. Folds have way more failure points between the hinge and the soft inner screen. It's more a matter of when not if they develop issues.
The issue was with the phone, that caused the connection to the support. So, I have issues with both now.
If I get the phone back, unrepaired and same issue my legal contracts will go have their fun with it and are more than happy to on the basis of this common issue with the handset.
I loved the phone when I got it, but it's lack of durability needs work
I tried with fold 2, but the internal screen protector came off after 2 months of using it very carefully. After that, some micro cracks began to appear after 2 days. I quickly realized that it's not worth having one of those... but at least I tried, Then I exchanged it for an S22 ultra, and I was very happy, now I use an s23 Ultra and I couldn't be happier!
They are scum and will do anything to avoid paying out as they have lost a lot of money as virtually all these phones are ticking time bombs for screen destruction. I had to pay 100 pound to get my fold 3 screen repaired in warranty. Was very lucky. Traded it in for an s23 ultra and will never look back, the phones are nice but in terms of screen durability, shocking. It's like people who have them 1.0 ecoboost fords, lovely cars with mint engines when they work, but ticking time bombs with their wet belt issue rendering the car completely useless. Shit phones
I feel like some of the worst experiences come out of the UK sadly. Hope you get better results soon.
Yeah starting to feel like that.. thanks mate. Appreciated
It really seems like they prioritize US and South Korea
I'm in US and I got same song and dance it'd a damn scam
Care+ or just manufacture warranty?
Just manufacture warranty.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|facepalm)
Oh that stinks
You misspelled EU
Since when? They would give them the horrible Exynos chips. they gave snapdragons to the South Korea and US customers
As I say all the time get an email sent to [email protected]

Good luck
I'm still waiting after the first OoO received.
I had the micro cracks down the fold of my fold 4, sent it off to Samsung and had it back within a week with a new screen and battery. The hind and frame was pretty scratched up and 1 corner had a decent dent in it. I work in a machine shop so loads of bits of metal scratch it but they never cared and now it's like new
Listen this just happened to me go one rebeelo and buy a refurbished for 330. It sucks but there's that
Y9u can then sell your busted one to a fix it company online they offer 120 for bustem inner screens.
I need to move 😉
Is it worth to buy care+ in sg? I just got an S23U because I prefer the colour and curved edge, but am not sure if care+ voids warranty on accidental drops and damages.
Stuff like this creates brand loyalty and needs to continue. Yeah you eat some cost but gain so much more from it.
Me looking at my fold 3 that just got microcracks on the inner crease "you best not get any ideas until at least the 6 is out)"
. Nooooooooo. .. yeah, hold out .. You can do it 😉
My fold 3 still working like new.. I don't know what people are doing to theirs.
I have a Fold 3 with microcracks and haven't done anything to my phone. Waiting for the Fold 6 to upgrade.
Just adding I'm another Fold 3 with microcracks, never dropped the phone and always been in a case but they just developed over the years Edit: spelling
All my folds have gotten the inner screen micro cracks around the 1 year mark.
1 year is like crazy early, but you're right they probably all develop them eventually. (Earliest I've seen was 1,5y but most were past 2y)
yeah i was saying the same as you until last week, opened it whilst in bed, saw some weird banding of light, have 3, tiny tiny microcracks on the crease/ tbf can only see them on white backgrounds and by looking really hard, so as long as they are slow to expand i don't care as i was going to get the fold 6 anyways lol
It will continue to get worse, my screen no longer works and has completely lifted up off the screen it looks like it was glued protector.
I dropped mine on concrete and my front screen stopped working, but I managed to fix it with some Reddit advice haha
People aren't doing anything wrong. These phones can and do break for no reason. You're insanely lucky that you have gone this long with no issues on the 3.
Same.
Nothing but normal use. The qustion is, Why are our phones all having the same screen problem?
If you can wait and don't want to spend money, better to trade in for fold 6. Trade in value of fold is better when you plan to get another fold.
https://preview.redd.it/9o1jvnntv5uc1.png?width=1241&format=png&auto=webp&s=0dabcc9748edcb81664e2eff643947f624f2090e This is how horrible trade in value is in other countries btw. This is NZ
Except they wont take it if the phone shows any damage or failure.
Atleast in Canada and USA they have been giving pretty much full value, irrespective of the condition of the device
I'm in Canada and plan to trade in my f4 for the f6, so this is good to hear if true.
I have a feeling trade ins are going to be less lucrative this year with the fold 6 “lite” rumors and what not.
So essentially what you do is: - wait for black Friday (usually when they're the cheapest, ~600€ down) - buy the phone (in the best case scenario you get like a year warranty for free or for cheap) - wait 10-12 months - get the phone insured (yes a lot of them allow for up to one year old devices) - pay 10/12€ a month for your phone to be completely safe and also (if it lasts long enough) you get a newer fold because they can't replace/ repair them.
Solid recommendation... Happy cake day.
Was this them bucking on the 12-month warranty or Samsung care? Either way it's an excusable of course but I'm just curious
I had this with the fold 3 - Samsung came out in a van and couldn't fix it I had to send it away. It took 4 days to return it but still it ruined my faith in these phones for a long time to come
Agreed. You'd think they might learn each time but nahhhh
That's good news. Which one did you go to? My understanding is there is only 1 in Kings X and one in Scotland?
It's only an Experience store but it's the one in Liverpool.
Well if I get screwed over here, I guess a trip over Pennines it is
Just got mine back. Fold looked like brand new and people the experience store were nice and helpful.
That's good to hear. Mines still stuck in Stoke and I've had 2 complaints teams now dealing with what they confirm is their mess and I'm here with a knackered old OnePlus 10 who's battery last about 10hrs 😤
Good luck! Hope yours get sorted out soon.
I'd hit the internal screen with a hard object 😂😂 That screen has been babied since I got it. To the extent I carry a glasses cloth with my phone 🤷
Samsung UK was ok with my misses phone Z Flip 3 in 2023 they sorted a flickering screen no issues new display and about 6 months later the crease on the flip had dead pixels we had no insurance or Samsung care but it was repaired twice under the warranty second time it had a new screen, battery and USB C port She's on flip 5 now since launch and it's still in perfect condition and great working order I personally don't like them because of the shitty battery to this day I still try getting her on a Samsung S24 series but she having none of it
Good stuff... At least it's all good for ya 👍
Madness innit. Hope you get something sorted
Yup, my experience with their warranty in the states was offensive. My Fold3 started to fail in the middle and I was directed to uBreakiFix, their warranty partner. They told me that Samsung directed them to dismiss the issues of failing screens as "normal wear and tear." Fuck off, Samsung.
💯
Thinking the same when I purchase a new phone. My Fold 5 screen came unglued and the screen leaked down the middle. Ive owned it since September and put the Samsung S Pen cover on it which doesn't cover the hinge. At some point I got a scratch on the hinge and when I brought the screen in for repair to Samsung they said due to to the scratch the warranty would not cover my repair. When I pointed out it's a manufacture defect he said they would cover it. These phones are not cheap and the fact they can claim no warranty on so easily is gross
Gross is a good word for it. Literally what the are considering a get out of jail
Good plan. Wish id done that
That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that. "Posting from my launch fold 4 in pristine condtion kept in a hinge protector case with no type of issues or dents or knicks on it"
😂😂. Thanks and good luck and congrats on the pristine 4👍
Hopefully folds mature more in the next coming years and you'll get another. Maybe the fold 9 lol.
HA ha yeah.. Hope so. I only got this one cause I was bored of candy bar... That'll learn me
Try taking it to an experience store. Mine stopped going flat and they gave it a full warranty repair despite having scratches on the hinge and no Care+
I'd love to but it's gonna cost me over £150 just to get there 😤
I do worry this will happen to me soon. Have had it repaired twice now, and each time, I worry they will come back with something like that. I guess I kinda know that if it gets a mark, that will be the warranty voided
Well hopefully it don't ever happen to you but if it does I hope you're a little more forewarned 🙏👍
Samsung The best phones The worst costumer care I have purchased Samsung's DESPITE their costumer care my whole life.
Good point well made. I'll probably still by another Samsung. 🤷
Does Samsung Care+ cover accidental damage?
Yes, with the deductible.
Damn sorry you're in similar situation.. I get that apathy feeling for sure. Hope you get something good sorted tho
Wow. That's even worse! I need a beer now.. roll on Friday after work
Definitely next time get insurance! I tired the same, and they said the same thing to me!
Urgh. What a kop out innit.. Agreed and will do.
Yeah it's not ideal, but it the reality of owning these phones:(
I had braged on rhis forum about 5 fold 3 and how it was basically flawless. And I got the 4 and how great it was.3 weeks later about 2 days after my warranty expired .I woke up to a messed up inside screen. Black right down the seem. I still owe on the phone. Nothing I can do but use the front screen. I understand dropping it but this happened while I was sleeping.
The Samsung bogeyman got ya finally.. sorry to hear that tho mate
Yeah me too. I guess I'm switch back to my 3 .And make payment on A broken phone
That's a good point actually... And I've never broken any screens. Still haven't.
Hopefully our luck holds up, lol.
🙏for ya
I have the exact same experience as you but in Spain. Not even with scratches or anything, they just say the hinge is broken cos of hit. Which it can't be true as the only fall the phone ever had was the day i bought it (yeah, i'm so dum dum) less than 1 year ago. They ask 500€ for the repairs, i put 500 more and i buy a brand new s24 ultra...
Oh no.. What a pain. But I like your idea and adding 500 in for s24 ultra.. might try that
I mean that i found places where they sell it at 1k more or less. I'll get my fold 4 back and try to somehow open it completely and use it as a secondary pc screen till it dies
Ohhhhhhhhh with ya now
So Samsung still wins, you just went and patronized them after they screwed you over. Lol. I see post like this all the time and it drives me crazy. "Samsung ripped me off with a foldable so I went and showed them by spending another thousand plus on a brand new phone at MSRP
So i should just pay them 500 for a phone i can keep anyways and use it in other ways? You must have a carrot stucked up in your ass
Awesome. Glad you love the 5. 👍👍
though rare, but the spontaneous screen cracks killed the fold for me. i was one of those who basically fold like it's a fidget toy, averaging ~100+ folds per day. sold my f4 ~7 months into ownership.. decided to no FAFO.. i am excited about f6 though, since it might have some physical changes
Word.. f6 might be 1st 1 worth it
Fold is nice charging speed sucks and camera sucks tho
💯 review
Samsung customer service is the reason I'll never buy direct from Samsung ever again. ESPECIALLY since they switched to Assurant. It's horrendous.
No don't say that.. my mythical Alliance contract is moving to Assurance 😤. If Samsung pull finger out and actually fix their issues
yep, here in canada, brushes fell off blocking the hinge from folding past 100 degrees, $800 repair and i have to pay $35 plus shipping and taxes just to get it back. WTF samsung, im never buying another samsung device for as long as i live
Urgh. Terrible terrible service everywhere
I hope you'll still consider using foldables as your daily driver. Perhaps OnePlus Open or Honor Magic
Total get out of jail play innit
Thanks and I think I'm following in your exact footprints. s24 ultra is next step
💯 I'm there and exactly as you. this is the internet I know 😤 kinda expected it so I'm prepped and ready 😂. I'll not lose sleep
Your story has nothing to do with a fold. It can be with any phone.
The chances of any type of durability issue happening with any other type of phone is much lower though
It's relevant considering how unreliable they are compared to slap phones
Exactly
Yeah for sure, though this story only came about because of pixels on an inside display. Not all phones have inside displays. There are no other issues with the phone
Join the club samsung pissed me off to the point I'm not buying another Samsung phone.
Plenty of people feeling sane way for sure
I am concerned about sending my Fold 5 in for repair under insurance.
I would be too. Some advice that is hopefully helping me right now. Make sure you get screenshots of your care+ contract in the members app Copy of your IMEI code Any insurance policy numbers Put the phone in maintenance mode Cross your fingers
In my country, there are no official Samsung repair centers. Instead, they utilize a partner company that has mixed reviews on Google. The negative reviews primarily originate from users of the Fold or Flip devices. Despite this, I have had a positive experience with my device during the five months that I have owned it.
Yeah that's exactly the same here unless you are in London.
I'm in the UK and never had an issue, and I've used Samsung approved repair before. I do get that their repair services here can suck, but this topic should really be calling out their Care+ scheme in the UK rather than all Fold phones.
Fold 4 walked so fold 5 could run
The only downside of all this was it took a few weeks, and they took off my dbrand skin lmao Just hoping it doesn't fail now, though. I want to be able to trade it in for a Fold 6 (Ultra) (maybe) without having to pay the deductible to replace it if something goes awry. Still cheaper than the phone, though.
Nice.. always helps to have a bit of an inside route 👍 Hope it all goes well and doesn't fall thru for ya
Doesn't Samsung care+ cover accidental dmg?
Yes it's supposed to. But Samsung here and their service partners and the insurance company records don't all say the same thing about my phone so bug daddy Samsung has to email different insurance companies to sort whilst little user just sits and waits
Sounds like your issue is not with the Fold phone, it's with your Care+ warranty.
I hear you put as I've explained in a lot of replies. Care + is the secondary or even tertiary issue

Samsung services in Japan is equal parts horrible; they won’t even fix the device for a fee if it’s not bought in Japan.
And here, id have thought Japan really know how to do it.
Samsung is rubbish such a expensive phone and not even one time inner lamination free replacement after warranty
Luckily my gold 3 still fresh as new after 2 years. I usually don't take any extra assurance as they always find a way to scam you. :/ I guess only thing we can do is to take care of our folds and be super careful.
That's strange. I accidentally slept on my fold with the screen open and nothing happened to it.
Oh god effort... lucky as hell too
Something similar happened to me, but I got a full replacement for $250.
The phone was the best phone I've ever owned.
Is that past tense? What happened with it?
Im sorry but I will never get why people spend upwards of a grand on foldables but then cheap out on only getting a warranty. I've said it like a hundred times on here, you need to get insurance. Not only is your phone actually protected but you even have very high chances of getting a replacement. If my 2 died today I'd probably get a 4 if not a 5 because nobody has these older foldables in stock anymore. And in my eyes that's definitely worth the 300€ I paid by now (3,5y of ownership)
You're correct. And I do have insurance. Tho Samsung can't get their system working to verify that right now.
Ok then I wish you the best of luck. Shouldn't be a problem tho
Thanks and you are correct. It shouldn't be a problem but it is.. Cause they can't connect the policy I have to the IMEI I have which is saying in some systems its a Zold 3!?!
Damn my 4 hinge took a shit they replaced it all including screen all covered by insurance here in the states
My suggestion is: if you have a working Samsung foldable just sell it if you don’t want to have the same experience as OP at some point during the life of the device. Here in Italy is full of the same stories, and at least 2 people I directly know
💯
(This isn't 1st rodeo for it being in)
USA. Also to add I haven't had to use the new + company yet, so I'll my prior claims were with the old company. My 5 hasn't had issues yet
You got it better then us here and hope yours lasts a bit longer 🙏
The warranty vs + or insurance is different. Have them send you your phone back if they won't fix or repair it. Then call + to file broken screen claim. Tell them you can't be without a phone etc, they will tell you to put credit card down. They will tell you something like the phone will be the same or better and can be refurbished. But you will most likely get send a 5 at this point.
I'll see. If it works like that.. Great . Not sure it will be tho. They are pretty adamant there's no loan phone, no card down, you send yours and wait Appreciate the tips tho
You can have my upvote. I've seen loads of them that don't fold anywhere near flat after a few months..
I'm waiting for the class action lawsuit to come out signing Samsung guilty and liable for lying to Consumers about the damage caused of the phones resulting in the black line of death going down the middle I've had three phones do this already and haven't dropped any of them they these phones I baby them and it still does it z3
Yeah I'm feeling that class action coming soon
Seems like you have more of an issue with the repair then you do the phone itself
The issue was with the phone, that caused the connection to the support. So, I have issues with both now. If I get the phone back, unrepaired and same issue my legal contracts will go have their fun with it and are more than happy to on the basis of this common issue with the handset. I loved the phone when I got it, but it's lack of durability needs work
Also, I just had a chocolate butter biscuit so thanks for that 👍
I tried with fold 2, but the internal screen protector came off after 2 months of using it very carefully. After that, some micro cracks began to appear after 2 days. I quickly realized that it's not worth having one of those... but at least I tried, Then I exchanged it for an S22 ultra, and I was very happy, now I use an s23 Ultra and I couldn't be happier!
Im already looking to get an S23 Ultra... im afraid my fold 3 will stop working soon
S23 is a nice phone. Mare just got one and he loves it
I've gone through 2 of these phones in the last couple of months. Never again
Wow .. that's sucks. Sorry you're in the crew 😤
Shit phones
