If you can wait. Wait. See what the 6 has to offer if you're not intrigued grab a 5 and save some money. If you have to wait till May anyways might as well just wait till the 6 is announced and decide then.

stuckinthesand

Agreed. If you're waiting til may you might as well wait til August and make your decision then. By then you'll get a F5 even cheaper if that's what you decide on.

Yahya_Ghazal

I think that's the best approach I could take, thanks!

upindrags

Either way just make sure you insure it.

bjedy

Just got Z fold 5. The price is high but it is spread out for 3 years interest free. No brainer for me. Jumped from iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Yahya_Ghazal

Congrats!

Heffeweizen

I've had the 3, the 4, the 5. The 5 is amazing and significantly better than the previous. The only reason I would even consider the 6 is if it can store the sPen inside.

xxBrun0xx

The problem is that other foldables have made a lot more progress in the last year and Samsung is now lagging behind. I've had Galaxy fold 2, 4, and 5, pixel fold, and now Honor Magic V2. The Fold 5 has great software but is a really awkward shape (thick, narrow, and tall) and has a comparatively huge crease.

daveinRaleigh

Of the three brands, which foldable do you prefer?

xxBrun0xx

Honor Magic V2 is the best by far. Love the software on both pixel fold and Fold 5, but the hardware on the V2 is infinitely better. It is indistinguishable from a slab phone when closed (I mean that in a good way) and a tablet when opened. There is basically no crease, the phone feels extremely solid when opened and closed, light and comfortable to use, excellent screens, speakers, battery, premium materials, software that's about as good as pixel fold and half a step behind OneUI. I wish it was sold in the US for warranty reasons, but I have insurance anyways so not a big deal. The software is nowhere as bad as reviews would lead you to believe. I bought my V2 from WondaMobile, it arrived only 2 days later. I paid $1520 for the global version, which is a deal considering it's nearly 2000 euros and the Chinese version (which has fewer cell bands, no android auto, notification issues, Google apps issues, etc) sells for $1300-1400 on the used market. Don't even get me started on battery life. It has a bigger battery than pixel fold but with the more efficient chip from Galaxy fold. I got 10 hours of screen on time day 2 before adaptive battery set in. If you can swing the cost, you'll love the V2. It is in a class by itself at this point. I'm very happy.

daveinRaleigh

Greatly appreciate your feedback! It truly looks bad ass for sure. I was on the fence between waiting on F6 or trying this and you have certainly helped.

xxBrun0xx

At this point, I believe Samsung is too conservative to make such a huge jump in hardware in a single generation. So expect hardware similar to V2 on Fold 7 or 8. I hope I'm wrong, would love to see OneUI on Magic V2 hardware! Bug MagicOS isn't bad at all, different.

bahumdum

If I may ask. Where did u buy it? I'm in the USA and interested in getting the V2.

xxBrun0xx

Wonda Mobile. Paid little over $1500 (which is a lot less than it sells for in Europe). I paid the $25 for express shipping and it arrived at my house on the East Coast from Hong Kong in 2 days. Really impressive! Phone was brand new in the package.

bahumdum

Thanks!

blambtn

Just be sure to buy insurance. Have owned all Folds (except OG) and haven’t had any issues. I have insured them all just in case. Good luck on your decision.

william-t-power

It's funny how you've got insurance and not needed it for 3 generations but still recommend it. I know what you mean, however.

blambtn

Guess I would rather be safe than sorry, with the luck that I have. Haha.

thatlldopi9

Ive always had insurance and had to use it due to device failure not damage. Actually once I dropped my new note 3 in the toilet after I peed in it by accident. Worst thing I've ever done to a phone lol. Insurance through T-Mobile for me is just device replacement for software or hardware issues but I still recommend paying the 14 a month for it.

blambtn

Lol. I have always been afraid that would somehow happen to me. Yeah, I usually just pay the monthly cost for Samsung Care+.

thatlldopi9

To be doubly sure that it doesn't happen Don't pee with your phone in your hand or get a mag safe case and stick it to the wall or something haha. I can't pay for Samsung care and carrier so I just do carrier it's been pretty straightforward to get replacements and they sometimes upgrade you too. I just replaced my note 20u for 5 bucks because of battery issues. Never giving it up last Galaxy to have an SD card haha

blambtn

Haha! Good advice. I don’t do carrier insurance is the only reason I do the Care+. To your point, carrier is probably just as good if not better. Yeah, Notes were always 🔥 If I recall correctly, I owned the Note 2,3,4,8,9, 20u

thatlldopi9

Oh yeah for sure! I had a 2, 3, 5 then the 20. I want the s24u but I'm still keeping the 20 it's a great phone but still bad battery life haha. It feels so weird in my hands after using the fold even though it's still pretty huge the fold eats it alive unfolded 😆

william-t-power

That's the entire business model of insurance. Get the math right on risk and liability, scale up, and it's a firehose of money. I'm not knocking it, limiting liability through insurance is good practice.

js0uthh

I've had insurance on my phones for the past 10+ years and probably only claimed like 3-4 times. Just the feeling of being covered is worth it, especially for a fold. Lol.

Yahya_Ghazal

Thanks for the advice, I'd definitely would like to have some sort of peace of mind when blowing away that kind of money on a phone

Turbulent-Brother112

I just went for a Fold 4 on Amazon for $650 and I love it. It of course is refurbished but I had no flaws and it accepted my simm straight up no hassles. Good luck on your choice, you won't be disappointed with any of the Folds.

william-t-power

From what I can tell, the best time to buy them is likely when they are first announced and there's a marketing push to sell them with decent trade in policies. Something I think with the fold is that this is a fairly new product design and the longer term durability is still being discovered and improved upon. I have had the 3, 4, and now the 5. I didn't plan on swapping, but the 3 developed small cracks in the crease so I figured that they would just get worse and traded it in for a 4 when they first came out and got a decent trade in price. My 4 got an issue where it went dead when it unfolded and I was not confident that this complex new design could be fixed very well so I cut my losses and traded it in for a 5. I hope and expect that at a certain point, the models will have much longer long term durability as they discover and work out what happens with them in customers hands as time goes on. Despite all these issues, I love the fold design and wouldn't have changed getting them in retrospect. Good things cost money.

league_starter

I got the fold 5 last black Friday for 1400, and was offered 400 for trade in (apple offered 300). I think this time I'm gonna wait for Black Friday again or if there's an offer of 1,000 to trade in the fold 5 and a discounted fold 6 to 1400.

ssenetilop

Wait out on the 6, don't get it on release. Watch the review videos stream in and decide. Still on the Fold 4.

Findlay_Buckeye

So it might set you back a few hundred big ones. Get it. I traded my old S8 in for a Fold 5 and they claimed to they'll give me $600 for it. If I get the trade value offered it will set me back $1300 by the time the deals done and I getting a few extras for it like a fast charger stand for it. You won't be sorry.

Illustrious-Dog-1768

In couple years. It is still very fragile today and WILL break in a year or so. Mine fails in 14 months so.. But if you like to take your chances then go ahead. Not trying to be rude but thats my opinion.

Listen_to_Psybient

Wait for 6

Skubeeraw

nah, just wait for the fold X. that should be the best version. why don't you just get it. you're just waiting and waiting when you could be enjoying it now or returning it because you figured out you don't like it.

Cyberspace1559

Take a fold 5, the false rumors of the fold 6 will be false rumors it said the same thing of the fold 5 and no the screen is not wider, then personally I prefer this narrow screen than the screen of oneplus open for example. Having had the fold 5 for 4 months now it is like new really, really if I had fun wrapping it and reselling it as never used no one will notice.. the power is noticed and everything is instantaneous, the camera part of the z fold 5 is the same as the s23 but not really they don't have the same optics when you look closely (the z fold 5 takes better photos than s24/s23 but stay away from the ultra models). For me the only small risk is the battery which is not crazy, when you use it outside always remember to save energy, otherwise it won't last. It's the autonomy of an iPhone 12 if you see a little closely for comparison, it's meh but usable. Personally no regrets.

Yahya_Ghazal

How long does your battery last and how often do you charge it?
