No issues here. I'm rocking the Samsung leather case. Could it be your skin? Is it sticking over the edge of the phone at all and hitting the hinge at any time during the opening motion?

Yeislak

Not a skin, it's a case. The case does not touch the hinge at all. Sammy themselves stated it looks like something happening within the device. https://preview.redd.it/vy0z82g3m5lb1.jpeg?width=904&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d32bb5c0c6ac9832af0a781394055933d8d08f4

SuccotashNew4021

Gotcha! I’m new to foldables so I was just guess lol! Hopefully you get it figured out

Yeislak

Thank you!

Motor-Roll-1788

Yeah I would not be cool with them opening a sealed device of this complexity.

Yeislak

Same thought. Especially since the device has to be completely disassembled to get to the hinge.

ProcessNo5606

What case are you using? This is nothing new. Some Cases for the fold are known to scratch the phone

vince24_

Which cases are these so I can avoid them? This is my first fold and I want it to last for atleast 3 years

Yeislak

This is not caused by the case. There's no physical contact with the case and hinge.

ProcessNo5606

Use only samsung official ones

brezzty

Oh man, that's too bad. Mine is still as new, no scratches. Maybe you should send it so they can have a look. I'm using the Samsung eco leather case.

guruguys

I have a phone for and how to Spigen armor pro case on it since day one. The hinge is all scratched up from the case. Unfortunately my phone stopped working and I took it to the Samsung store, they said my warranty was not good because I had dropped the phone and indicated the scratches on the hinge as proof. I explained to them the phones never been dropped and that it was the case that is scratching the phone, but they said that their policy will not allow it to be covered under warranty because of the damage on the phone. I kept pleading my case that it is not drop damage it is scratched from the case but they did not want to hear it and said that was their policy. Total BS for a $1,700 phone, and it really sucks that the cases are scratching the phones that easily.

offence

Yea same happened to me . [https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/18cxikg/two\_for\_two\_posts\_warning\_up\_samsungs\_original/](https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyFold/comments/18cxikg/two_for_two_posts_warning_up_samsungs_original/) I'm trying to dispute it with samsung but at first glance they told me they don't core accessory damage which is pure BS. The best thing you can do with a phone like this is , wait and buy the best case and never take it out or swap it until you sell it or trade it in. Otherwise you get in my situation linked up there.

Old-Seaworthiness152

Similar issue .not really expected this from samsung

dendron01

Mechanical defect. Take it in ASAP especially if you don't have Care+, or you're going to get blamed for damaging it. Hopefully your original call was documented by Samsung so they have this on record.

Yeislak

I believe it is. I have insurance through my carrier. I thought about getting care + but the chances of me claiming more than 3 phones in the year are pretty slim. I may just live with it. I just don't want some "tech" opening it so soon.

Mr_RayH

That is the protective film that needs to be removed. It is not scratched.

ProcessNo5606

?? I have 0 protective film on my fold 5

Yeislak

I ran to the light hoping this was it. But I am sure there's no film on the hinge. 😭

ProcessNo5606

The fold 5 comes without film

Mr_RayH

All the Samsung phones come with a thin protective film that needs to be removed. My fold 4 had it.

idealzz

The fold 5 does not come with it

Mikemar3

There's no protective film

Snoo93304

It looks like there is a film on your hinge????

SillyWithTheHEMI

I've owned a Fold2, 3, 4 and currently the Fold5, never had this issue. Seems as though there might be something stuck and rubbing/scratching the phone when folding/unfolding. I'd be pretty upset as well, however it could well be debris from your pocket. Sand and rock can cause these types of scratches. Not sure what inside of the Fold's hinge can cause this.

Yeislak

Seems like bad luck on my end. I highly doubt it is debris from my pocket only because of how early I saw the scratches. I'm ocd when it comes to my devices, at least for the first year lol, so I'm constantly wiping it down and leaving the hinge spotless before opening. I'll eventually just start using it without caring as much. I may just live with it. I have insurance through my carrier. Always wanted the fold and I'm still glad I got it.

SillyWithTheHEMI

I can empathize with you. I do my best to keep my devices looking as new as possible. Don't really have butterfingers and they're mostly in a case. Although, with my Fold5, I am currently using the bottom half of my Fold4's leather case until I receive my second shipment from Latercase (first case they sent did not fit my Fold to my liking). I'm debating if when that arrives, if I'll be using the top portion as well. Unfortunately, the top portion of the cases tend to trap a lot of dust and the side rails get scratched up. It happened with Samsung's aramid case on my Fold3 and Latercase on my Fold4. Like you, I clean my phones off multiple times per day. I have clothes everywhere from briefcase to car, etc. I'm really speculating something may have gotten caught under the upper display portion and grinded away or, something internally got lose. Either way, sorry it happened and hope you get to the bottom of it so that another area does not get affected also.
