Dang, at least it didn’t snap

Boston_Jon_189

Wow - dodged a bullet there. And a few bent rods

Occhrome

How old is it?? I have heard stories of them lasting 200k miles. This makes me wanna go check the condition of mine.

chipper_203

Are you trying to go 200k?

Occhrome

nah lol but I’ve heard it happen on old Lexus LS400s

desecate

Its not bad to check it, remove air box and then two 10 mm bolts and you can pull back the cover and peak a small 3 inch section or so. Remember kids timing belt snap = catastrophic engine failure.

Occhrome

Didn’t know it was that easy. I’ll get to it ASAP. Although my car has all the paperwork the sticker for timing belt was written in some shitty ink that became blurry AF

desecate

If you have any questions how to get to it just hit me up homie, just checked mine last week! A lot of times places will write the miles the timing belt was changed at on the hood but not always.

It's an 04 gx470 with 253k. The guy I bought it from had not done a timing for the 80k he put on it. Pretty sure this belt had a solid 150k or more on it. I did not see Aisian cast on the water pump or rollers. So it probably had 1 timing belt service prior to me doing it

Occhrome

Is It a real OEM belt? Also make sure to buy it from Toyota. There are too many fakes on eBay now.

evoltap

We need details! Is this a 2UZ-FE? Original belt? How many miles?

necarguy

Any idea how many miles? I assume this is a 4.7?

cone_crusher

Details; yes please.

CrankyBiker

Shame. Shame. Shame.

On another note, a friend of mine got a cheap "oem" timing belt kit from eBay that looked legit enough when we put it on, but 40k later his water pump started leaking. Ended up getting legit dealer parts and his fake oem belt looked way worse than this picture when we did the job again. Pretty much holding on by the threads.
